DRGBT-1K: A Large-scale High-quality Benchmark for Dynamic RGBT Tracking

Dynamic RGBT (DRGBT) tracking aims to continuously localize a target when the available sensing modalities and observation platforms vary over time. Compared with conventional RGBT tracking with fixed RGBT inputs and a fixed observation platform, DRGBT tracking is more consistent with real-world collaborative perception systems, where targets may be observed by heterogeneous sensors from different viewpoints. However, existing benchmarks are still insufficient for systematically evaluating tracker robustness under real dynamic modality variations and cross-platform transitions. To address this limitation, we make the following contributions. 1) We construct DRGBT-1K, a large-scale high-quality benchmark for DRGBT tracking. It contains 1,045 sequences captured entirely in real-world scenarios and 795K RGBT frame pairs collected using UAVs and handheld RGBT devices, encompassing diverse real-world scenes, pronounced viewpoint changes, modality variations, and target appearance discontinuities. 2) We provide comprehensive annotations for fine-grained evaluation, including dense bounding boxes, target category labels, challenge attributes, frame-level modality labels and platform labels. DRGBT-1K covers 24 target categories, more than 15 scene types and 15 challenge attributes. 3) We establish a comprehensive benchmark by evaluating 20 representative multimodal tracking methods, including conventional RGBT trackers, modality-missing RGBT trackers, and DRGBT trackers under a unified evaluation protocol. 4) We release an unaligned version of DRGBT-1K and derive UGVT-1K to support broader research on unaligned multimodal tracking and UAV-ground collaborative tracking. 5) We develop an online evaluation platform for DRGBT-1K and provide a leaderboard that collects all methods evaluated on this benchmark.

Spatial instability analysis and mode transition of a viscoelastic jet in a co-flowing gas stream

Spatial linear instability analysis is employed to investigate the instability of a viscoelastic liquid jet in a co-flowing gas stream. The theoretical model incorporates a non-uniform axial base profile represented by a hyperbolic tangent, capturing the shear layer. The Oldroyd-B model discretized with Chebyshev polynomials is employed, and energy budget analysis is used to interpret underlying mechanisms. At low Weber numbers, the jet evolves axisymmetrically and the instability is governed by interfacial gas-pressure fluctuations; as the Weber number increases, the growing inertia drives a transition of the predominant mode from axisymmetric to helical. At weak elasticity, the instability is also primarily governed by gas-pressure fluctuations. As elasticity increases, the predominant mode transitions from axisymmetric to helical. This transition is accompanied by a migration of disturbance structures from the interface toward the jet interior and an enhanced coupling between velocity perturbation and the basic flow. These trends reveal a new predominant instability mechanism -- the elasticity-enhanced shear-driven instability -- which is distinct from capillary or Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities in Newtonian jets. A We-El phase diagram delineates the boundary between predominant modes, and experimental results obtained in a flow-focusing configuration validate the theoretical predictions.

Dynamic Disentangled Fusion Network for RGBT Tracking

RGBT tracking usually suffers from various challenging factors of low resolution, similar appearance, extreme illumination, thermal crossover and occlusion, to name a few. Existing works often study complex fusion models to handle challenging scenarios, but can not well adapt to various challenges, which might limit tracking performance. To handle this problem, we propose a novel Dynamic Disentangled Fusion Network called DDFNet, which disentangles the fusion process into several dynamic fusion models via the challenge attributes to adapt to various challenging scenarios, for robust RGBT tracking. In particular, we design six attribute-based fusion models to integrate RGB and thermal features under the six challenging scenarios respectively.Since each fusion model is to deal with the corresponding challenges, such disentangled fusion scheme could increase the fusion capacity without the dependence on large-scale training data. Considering that every challenging scenario also has different levels of difficulty, we propose to optimize the combination of multiple fusion units to form each attribute-based fusion model in a dynamic manner, which could well adapt to the difficulty of the corresponding challenging scenario. To address the issue that which fusion models should be activated in the tracking process, we design an adaptive aggregation fusion module to integrate all features from attribute-based fusion models in an adaptive manner with a three-stage training algorithm. In addition, we design an enhancement fusion module to further strengthen the aggregated feature and modality-specific features. Experimental results on benchmark datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of our DDFNet against other state-of-the-art methods.

Electrokinetic oscillatory flow and energy conversion of viscoelastic fluids in microchannels: a linear analysis

We study the electrokinetic flow of viscoelastic fluids subjected to an oscillatory pressure gradient, and particularly focus on the resonance behaviors in the flow. The governing equations are restricted to linear regime so that the velocity and streaming potential fields can be solved analytically. Based on the interaction of viscoelastic shear waves, we explain the mechanism of resonance, and derive a critical Deborah number Dec = 1/4 which dictates the occurrence of resonance. Using the Maxwell fluid model, we show that the resonance enhances electrokinetic effects and results in a dramatic increase of electrokinetic energy conversion efficiency. However, by applying the Oldroyd-B fluid model it reveals that the amplification of efficiency is suppressed even for a very small Newtonian solvent contribution. This may be one of the reasons that experimental verification regarding the high efficiency predicted by Bandopadhyay & Chakraborty (Appl. Phys. Lett., vol. 101, 2012, 043905) is unavailable in the literature. Furthermore, the damping effect of solvent viscosity is more significant for higher-order resonances. Introducing the factor of multiple relaxation times, we show that the occurrence of resonances for the streaming potential field and the flow rate are still dominated by Dec. For the efficiency in the multi-mode case, the occurrence of resonance is dominated by the Deborah number De and the mode number N, and the resonance disappears for small De or large N. In addition, a new type of scaling relation between the streaming potential field and EDL thickness can be identified at large De.

Exponential Stability Estimate of Symplectic Integrators for Integrable Hamiltonian Systems

We prove a Nekhoroshev-type theorem for nearly integrable symplectic map. As an application of the theorem, we obtain the exponential stability symplectic algorithms. Meanwhile, we can get the bounds for the perturbation, the variation of the action variables, and the exponential time respectively. These results provide a new insight into the nonlinear stability analysis of symplectic algorithms. Combined with our previous results on the numerical KAM theorem for symplectic algorithms (2018), we give a more complete characterization on the complex nonlinear dynamical behavior of symplectic algorithms.

Numerical invariant tori of symplectic integrators for integrable Hamiltonian systems

In this paper, we study the persistence of invariant tori of integrable Hamiltonian systems satisfying Rüssmann's non-degeneracy condition when symplectic integrators are applied to them. Meanwhile, we give an estimate of the measure of the set occupied by the invariant tori in the phase space. On an invariant torus, the one-step map of the scheme is conjugate to a one parameter family of linear rotations with a step size dependent frequency vector in terms of iteration. These results are a generalization of Shang's theorems (1999, 2000), where the non-degeneracy condition is assumed in the sense of Kolmogorov. In comparison, Rüssmann's condition is the weakest non-degeneracy condition for the persistence of invariant tori in Hamiltonian systems. These results provide new insight into the nonlinear stability of symplectic integrators.
