AvatarMix: Identity-Preserving Cross-Avatar Composition for Outfit Personalization

Existing 3D avatar outfit transfer methods face distinct challenges: approaches that lift 2D edits to 3D often suffer from outfit or identity quality degradation, while those that separately model body and clothing layers are prone to intersection artifacts. We introduce AvatarMix, a compositional paradigm that bypasses these issues by directly composing the head and body from two high-fidelity Gaussian avatars. While this paradigm inherently preserves outfit quality and avoids intersections, it introduces challenges in creating a seamless join and maintaining appearance fidelity after body reshaping. To this end, we propose a two-tier refinement strategy: SeamFix, a localized diffusion module that refines hair and neck to ensure an artifact-free join, and an optional full-body refinement, FullbodyFix, that restores garment appearance when retargeting degrades the clothed body. Both operate on renders from an already 3D-consistent Gaussian avatar, which limits multi-view artifacts compared to 2D-to-3D lifting. To preserve the user's body identity, our mesh-based Gaussian representation enables the adaptation of a robust mesh retargeting technique, precisely reshaping the clothed body to the user's physique and robustly handling diverse body shapes. Extensive experiments demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art results in outfit fidelity and identity preservation, providing a new perspective for realistic 3D outfit personalization. Nonlocal Coherent Optical Nonlinearities of a Macroscopic Quantum System

The optical responses of solids are typically understood to be local in space. Whether locality holds for the optical response of a macroscopic quantum system has, however, been largely unexplored. Here, we use multidimensional coherent spectroscopy at the optical diffraction limit to demonstrate nonlocal optical nonlinearities in a semiconductor microcavity. These nonlocal optical responses are both coherent and quantum in nature, deriving from the macroscopic length scale of confined exciton-polariton wavefunctions.

EG-HumanNeRF: Efficient Generalizable Human NeRF Utilizing Human Prior for Sparse View

Generalizable neural radiance field (NeRF) enables neural-based digital human rendering without per-scene retraining. When combined with human prior knowledge, high-quality human rendering can be achieved even with sparse input views. However, the inference of these methods is still slow, as a large number of neural network queries on each ray are required to ensure the rendering quality. Moreover, occluded regions often suffer from artifacts, especially when the input views are sparse. To address these issues, we propose a generalizable human NeRF framework that achieves high-quality and real-time rendering with sparse input views by extensively leveraging human prior knowledge. We accelerate the rendering with a two-stage sampling reduction strategy: first constructing boundary meshes around the human geometry to reduce the number of ray samples for sampling guidance regression, and then volume rendering using fewer guided samples. To improve rendering quality, especially in occluded regions, we propose an occlusion-aware attention mechanism to extract occlusion information from the human priors, followed by an image space refinement network to improve rendering quality. Furthermore, for volume rendering, we adopt a signed ray distance function (SRDF) formulation, which allows us to propose an SRDF loss at every sample position to improve the rendering quality further. Our experiments demonstrate that our method outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in rendering quality and has a competitive rendering speed compared with speed-prioritized novel view synthesis methods.

Grating-based microcavity with independent control of resonance energy and linewidth for non-Hermitian polariton system

Exciton-polaritons have become an emerging platform for implementing non-Hermitian physics. The implementation commonly requires control of both the real and imaginary parts of the eigenmodes of the system. We present an experimental method to achieve this purpose using microcavities with sub-wavelength gratings as reflectors. The reflectivity and reflection phase of the grating can be changed by its geometric parameters and they determine the energy and linewidth of the polariton modes. We demonstrate that this method allows a wide range of possible polariton energy and linewidth, suitable for implementing non-Hermitian polariton systems with coupled modes.

Polariton Laser in the Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer Regime

Microcavity exciton polariton systems can have a wide range of macroscopic quantum effects that may be turned into better photonic technologies. Polariton Bose-Einstein condensation and photon lasing have been widely accepted in the limits of low and high carrier densities, but identification of the expected Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer (BCS) state at intermediate densities remains elusive, as the optical-gain mechanism cannot be directly inferred from existing experiments. Here, using a microcavity with strong polarization selectivity, we gain direct experimental access to the reservoir absorption in the presence of polariton condensation and lasing, which reveals a fermionic gain mechanism underlying the polariton laser. A microscopic many-particle theory shows that this polariton lasing state is consistent with an open-dissipative-pumped system analog of a polaritonic BCS state.

What is the best planar cavity for maximizing coherent exciton-photon coupling

We compare alternative planar cavity structures for strong exciton$-$photon coupling, where the conventional distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) and three unconventional types of cavity mirrors$-$ air/GaAs DBR, Tamm $-$ plasmon mirror and sub$-$wavelength grating mirror. We design and optimize the planar cavities built with each type of mirror at one side or both sides for maximum vacuum field strength. We discuss the trade$-$off between performance and fabrication difficulty for each cavity structure. We show that cavities with sub$-$wavelength grating mirrors allow simultaneously strongest field and high cavity quality. The optimization principles and techniques developed in this work will guide the cavity design for research and applications of matter$-$light coupled semiconductors, especially new material systems that require greater flexibility in the choice of cavity materials and cavity fabrication procedures.

A Coherent Polariton Laser

The semiconductor polariton laser promises a new source of coherent light, which, compared to conventional semiconductor photon lasers, has input-energy threshold orders of magnitude lower. However, intensity stability, a defining feature of a coherent state, has remained poor. Intensity noise at many times of the shot-noise of a coherent state has persisted, which has been attributed to multiple mechanisms that are difficult to separate in conventional polariton systems. The large intensity noise in turn limited the phase coherence. These limit the capability of the polariton laser as a source of coherence light. Here, we demonstrate a polariton laser with shot-noise limited intensity stability, as expected of a fully coherent state. This is achieved by using an optical cavity with high mode selectivity to enforce single-mode lasing, suppress condensate depletion, and establish gain saturation. The absence of spurious intensity fluctuations moreover enabled measurement of a transition from exponential to Gaussian decay of the phase coherence of the polariton laser. It suggests large self-interaction energies in the polariton condensate, exceeding the laser bandwidth. Such strong interactions are unique to matter-wave laser and important for nonlinear polariton devices. The results will guide future development of polariton lasers and nonlinear polariton devices.

Zero Dimensional Polariton Laser in a Sub-Wavelength Grating Based Vertical Microcavity

Semiconductor exciton-polaritons in planar microcavities form coherent two-dimensional condensates in non-equilibrium. However, coupling of multiple lower-dimensional polariton quantum systems, critically needed for polaritonic quantum device applications and novel cavity-lattice physics, has been limited due to the conventional cavity structures. Here we demonstrate full confinement of the polaritons non-destructively using a hybrid cavity made of a single-layer sub-wavelength grating mirror and a distributed Bragg reflector. Single-mode polariton lasing was observed at a chosen polarization. Incorporation of a designable slab mirror into the conventional vertical cavity, when operating in the strong-coupling regime, enables confinement, control and coupling of polariton gasses in a scalable fashion. It may open a door to experimental implementation of polariton-based quantum photonic devices and coupled cavity quantum electrodynamics systems.
