Probing hairy black holes caused by gravitational decoupling using quasinormal modes and greybody bounds

Gravitational decoupling can add hair to the black holes by adding extra sources. The quasinormal modes of hairy black hole caused by gravitational decoupling for the massless scalar field, electromagnetic field, and gravitational perturbation are investigated. The equations of effective potential for three perturbations are derived in hairy black hole spacetime. We also study the time evolution corresponding to the three perturbations, and the quasinormal mode frequencies are calculated using the Prony method through the time-domain profiles. By analyzing the influence of the hairs ($α$, $l_0$ and $Q$) for the black holes we studying on quasinormal mode, we find that the hairs $α$ and $l_0$ decrease the oscillation frequency of the gravitational wave signal, and the hair $Q$ increase its oscillation frequency.Furthermore, we have calculated the bounds of greybody factor and high-energy absorption cross section with the Sinc approximation, which reveals that the presence of charges ($α$ and $l_0$) generating primary hair can increase the probability of gravitational radiation arriving spatial infinity, whereas the charge $Q$ from the extra sources does the opposite.

Exact solution of Kerr-like traversable wormhole in dark matter halo

Dark matter halos are common in galaxies and globular clusters, making it possible to use dark matter density profiles to construct transverse wormholes. In reference [1], an approximate solution of the traversable wormhole satisfying the isotropic pressure condition is constructed by using the dark matter density profile. However, approximate solutions limit the discussion of traversable wormholes to a large extent. In this work, we construct the exact solution of the traversable wormhole in the case of rotation in the dark matter halo. We have written analytical expressions for the Kerr-like traversable wormhole metric for the dark matter density profile in galaxies corresponding to different dark matter models, respectively. These rotating traversable wormholes are jointly determined by the dark matter characteristic density and the scale radius. At the same time, we have also analyzed the energy conditions satisfied by these rotationally traversable wormholes.

Ringing and echoes from black bounces surrounded by the string cloud

In the string theory, the fundamental blocks of nature are not particles but one-dimensional strings. Therefore, a generalization of this idea is to think of it as a cloud of strings. Rodrigues et al. embedded the black bounces spacetime into the string cloud, which demonstrates that the existence of the string cloud makes the Bardeen black hole singular, while the black bounces spacetime remains regular. On the other hand, the echoes are the correction to the late stage of the quasinormal ringing for a black hole, which is caused by the deviation of the spacetime relative to the initial black hole spacetime geometry in the near-horizon region. In this work, we study the gravitational wave echoes of black bounces spacetime surrounded by a cloud of strings under scalar field and electromagnetic field perturbation to explore the effects caused by a string cloud in the near-horizon region. The ringing of the regular black hole and traversable wormhole with string cloud are presented. Our results demonstrate that the black bounce spacetime with strings cloud is characterized by gravitational wave echoes as it transitions from regular black holes to wormholes, i.e. the echoes signal will facilitate us to distinguish between black holes and the wormholes in black bounces surrounded by the string cloud.

Semi-classical rotating black hole in loop quantum gravity

In the research paper [1], the analytical solution of semi-classical rotating black holes (BH) in loop quantum gravity theory (LQG) is obtained, but an unknown function $H$ is still preserved. In this note, we obtain an expression for the unknown function $H$, which makes the space-time line element of the semi-classical rotating BH in the LQG theory sufficiently well-expressed and thus provides a basis for the study of such rotating BHs.

A Secure Dual-Function Radar Communication System via Time-Modulated Arrays

Dual-function radar-communication (DFRC) systems offer high spectral, hardware and power efficiency, as such are prime candidates for 6G wireless systems. DFRC systems use the same waveform for simultaneously probing the surroundings and communicating with other equipment. By exposing the communication information to potential targets, DFRC systems are vulnerable to eavesdropping. In this work, we propose to mitigate the problem by leveraging directional modulation (DM) enabled by a time-modulated array (TMA) that transmits OFDM waveforms. DM can scramble the signal in all directions except the directions of the legitimate user. However, the signal reflected by the targets is also scrambled, thus complicating the extraction of target parameters. We propose a novel, low-complexity target estimation method that estimates the target parameters based on the scrambled received symbols. We also propose a novel method to refine the obtained target estimates at the cost of increased complexity. With the proposed refinement algorithm, the proposed DFRC system can securely communicate with users while having high-precision sensing functionality.

The no-hair theorem and black hole shadows

The successful observation of M87 supermassive black hole by the Black Hole Event Horizon Telescope(EHT) provides a very good opportunity to study the theory of gravity. In this work, we obtain the exact solution for the short hair black hole (BH) in the rotation situation, and calculate in detail how hairs affect the BH shadow. For the exact solution part, using the Newman-Janis algorithm, we generalize the spherically symmetric short-hair black hole metric to the rotation case (space-time lie element (2.25)). For the BH shadow part, we study two hairy BH models. In model 1, the properties of scalar hair are determined by the parameters $α_{0}$ and $L$. In model 2, the scalar hair of the BH is short hair. In this model, the shape of the BH shadow is determined by scalar charge $Q_{m}$ and $k$. In general, various BH hairs have different effects on the shadows, such as non-monotonic properties and intersection phenomena mentioned in this work. Using these characteristics, it is possible to test the no-hair theorem in future EHT observations, so as to have a deeper understanding of the quantum effect of BHs. In future work, we will use numerical simulations to study the effects of various hairs on BHs and their observed properties.

The ringing of quantum corrected Schwarzschild black hole with GUP

Schwarzschild black holes with quantum corrections are studied under scalar field perturbations and electromagnetic field perturbations to analyze the effect of the correction term on the potential function and quasinormal mode (QNM). In classical general relativity, spacetime is continuous and there is no existence of the so-called minimal length. The introduction of the correction items of the generalized uncertainty principle (GUP), the parameter $β$, can change the singularity structure of the black hole gauge and may lead to discretization in time and space. We apply the sixth-order WKB method to approximate the QNM of Schwarzschild black holes with quantum corrections and perform numerical analysis to derive the results of the method. Also, we find that the effective potential and QNM in scalar fields are larger than those in electromagnetic fields.

DFRC with Improved Communication-Sensing Trade-off via Private Subcarrier Permutations and Pairing with Antennas

Dual function radar communication (DFRC) systems can achieve significant improvements in spectrum efficiency, system complexity and energy efficiency, and are attracting a lot of attention for next generation wireless system design. This paper considers DFRC systems using MIMO radar with a sparse transmit array, transmitting OFDM waveforms, and assigning shared and private subcarriers to active transmit antennas. Subcarrier sharing allows antennas to modulate data symbols onto the same subcarriers and enables high communication rate, while the use of private subcarriers trades-off communication rate for sensing performance by enabling the formulation of a virtual array with larger aperture than the physical receive array. We propose to exploit the permutation of private subcarriers among the available subcarriers and the pairing between active antennas and private subcarriers to recover some of the communication rate loss. Exploiting the $1$-sparse property of private subcarriers, we also propose a low complexity algorithm to identify private subcarriers and detect the antenna-subcarrier pairing.

Phased Array With Improved Beamforming Capability via Use of Double Phase Shifters

The passive electronically scanned array (PESA) is widely used due to its simple structure and low cost. {Its antenna weights have unit modulus and thus, only the weights phases can be controlled. PESA has limited degrees of freedom for beampattern design, where only the direction of the main beam can be controlled.} In this paper we propose a novel way to improve the beamforming capability of PESA by endowing it with more degrees of freedom via the use of double phase shifters (DPS). By doing so, both the magnitude and the phase of the antenna weights can be controlled, allowing for more flexibility in beampattern design. We also take into account the physical resolution limitation of phase shifters, and propose a method to approximate a given complex beamformer using DPS. Simulation results indicate significant beamforming improvement even at low phase resolution.

A Dual-Function Radar Communication System With OFDM Waveforms and Subcarrier Sharing

A novel monostatic multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) dual-function radar communication (DFRC) system is proposed, that uses the available bandwidth efficiently for both sensing and communication. The proposed system, referred to as Shared-Subcarriers DFRC (SS-DFRC) transmits wideband, orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) waveforms and allows the transmit antennas to use subcarriers in a shared fashion. A novel, low complexity target estimation approach is proposed to overcome the coupling of radar target parameters and transmitted symbols that arises in that case. When all subcarriers are used in a shared fashion, the proposed system achieves high communication rate but its sensing performance is limited by the size of the receive array. We show that when some of the subcarriers are reserved for exclusive use by one transmit antenna each (private subcarriers), the communication rate can be traded off for improved sensing performance. The latter can be achieved by using the private subcarriers to construct a larger aperture virtual array that yields higher resolution angle estimates. The system is endowed with beamforming capability, via waveform precoding, where the precoding matrix is optimally designed to meet a joint sensing-communication system performance metric.

Ringing of a black hole in a dark matter halo

Recently, we obtained the simple metrics of a spherically symmetric black hole in a dark matter halo, and extended to the case of rotation. As the characteristic sound of black holes, quasinormal modes (QNMs) are one of the important means to understand black holes currently. Based on these two metrics of a spherically symmetric black hole, we study the QNMs of cold dark matter (CDM) and scalar field dark matter (SFDM) models using the methods of the material field perturbations and the gravitational perturbation, and make comparisons with the Schwarzschild black hole. Our results show that black hole QNMs of CDM and SFDM in a dark matter halo are different from the Schwarzschild black hole, unlike a Schwarzschild black hole with a prominent power-law tail. The different kinds models of dark matter can be distinguished by their QNMs. The time of QNMs ringing and frequencies increase with increasing parameter $l$. The overall QNMs of CDM are stronger than that of SFDM in the same condition, which is easier to be detected. In addition, QNMs frequencies using the sixth-order WKB method and the Prony method are in good agreement.

Echoes of novel black-bounce spacetimes

Gravitational wave echoes can be used as a significant observable to understand the properties of black holes horizon. In addition, echoes would also closely relate to the unique properties of compact objects. In this work we study the evolution of electromagnetic field and scalar field under the background of novel black-bounce spacetimes. Our results show an obvious echoes signal that can characterize the properties of novel black-bounce spacetimes, and a detailed analysis about the characteristics of the echoes signal is given. By studying the quasinormal ringdown of the three states of novel black-bounce spacetimes, including black holes in $0 2 M$, we find that the echoes signal only appears when $a>2M$ in this spacetime, but when the parameter $a$ increases to a threshold, the echoes signal will be transformed into a quasinormal ringdown of the two-way traversable wormhole.

Simultaneous Monitoring of Multiple People's Vital Sign Leveraging a Single Phased-MIMO Radar

Vital sign monitoring plays a critical role in tracking the physiological state of people and enabling various health-related applications (e.g., recommending a change of lifestyle, examining the risk of diseases). Traditional approaches rely on hospitalization or body-attached instruments, which are costly and intrusive. Therefore, researchers have been exploring contact-less vital sign monitoring with radio frequency signals in recent years. Early studies with continuous wave radars/WiFi devices work on detecting vital signs of a single individual, but it still remains challenging to simultaneously monitor vital signs of multiple subjects, especially those who locate in proximity. In this paper, we design and implement a time-division multiplexing (TDM) phased-MIMO radar sensing scheme for high-precision vital sign monitoring of multiple people. Our phased-MIMO radar can steer the mmWave beam towards different directions with a micro-second delay, which enables capturing the vital signs of multiple individuals at the same radial distance to the radar. Furthermore, we develop a TDM-MIMO technique to fully utilize all transmitting antenna (TX)-receiving antenna (RX) pairs, thereby significantly boosting the signal-to-noise ratio. Based on the designed TDM phased-MIMO radar, we develop a system to automatically localize multiple human subjects and estimate their vital signs. Extensive evaluations show that under two-subject scenarios, our system can achieve an error of less than 1 beat per minute (BPM) and 3 BPM for breathing rate (BR) and heartbeat rate (HR) estimations, respectively, at a subject-to-radar distance of $1.6~m$. The minimal subject-to-subject angle separation is $40°$, corresponding to a close distance of $0.5~m$ between two subjects, which outperforms the state-of-the-art.

Effect of quantum deformed black hole on BH shadow in two-dimensional Dilaton gravity

In recent years, the study of quantum effects near the event horizon of black hole (BH) has attracted extensive attention. It has become one of the important methods to explore BH quantum properties by using the related properties of the quantum deformed black hole. In this work, we study the effect of quantum deformed black hole on BH shadow in two-dimensional Dilaton gravity. In this model, quantum effects are reflected on the quantum correction parameter m. By calculation, we find that: (1) the shape of the shadow boundary of a rotating black hole is determined by the BH spin $a$, the quantum correction parameter $m$ and the BH type parameter $n$; (2) when the spin $a=0$, the shape of the BH shadow is a perfect circle; when $a\neq 0$, the shape is distorted; if the quantum correction parameter $m=0$, their shapes reduce to the cases of Schwarzschild BH and Kerr BH respectively; (3) the degree of distortion of the BH shadow is different for various quantum correction parameters $m$; with the increase of the values of $m$, the shadow will become more and more obvious; (4) the results of different BH type parameter $n$ differ greatly. Since the value of $m$ in actual physics should be very small, the current observations of EHT cannot distinguish quantum effect from BH shadow, and can only constrain the upper limit of $m$. In future BH shadow measurements, it will be possible to distinguish quantum deformed black holes, which will help to better understand the quantum effects of BHs.

Rotating spacetime: black-bounces and quantum deformed black hole

Recently, two kinds of deformed schwarzschild spacetime have been proposed, which are the black-bounces metric (\cite{2019JCAP...02..042S,2021PhRvD.103h4052L}) and quantum deformed black hole (BH) (\cite{2021arXiv210202471B}). In present work, we investigate the rotating spacetime of these deformed Schwarzschild metric. They are exact solutions to the Einstein$'$s field equation. We analyzed the properties of these rotating spacetimes, such as event horizon (EH), stationary limit surface (SIS), structure of singularity ring, energy condition (EC), etc., and found that these rotating spacetime have some novel properties.

Remaining useful life prediction with uncertainty quantification: development of a highly accurate model for rotating machinery

Rotating machinery is essential to modern life, from power generation to transportation and a host of other industrial applications. Since such equipment generally operates under challenging working conditions, which can lead to untimely failures, accurate remaining useful life (RUL) prediction is essential for maintenance planning and to prevent catastrophic failures. In this work, we address current challenges in data-driven RUL prediction for rotating machinery. The challenges revolve around the accuracy and uncertainty quantification of the prediction, and the non-stationarity of the system degradation and RUL estimation given sensor data. We devise a novel architecture and RUL prediction model with uncertainty quantification, termed VisPro, which integrates time-frequency analysis, deep learning image recognition, and nonstationary Gaussian process regression. We analyze and benchmark the results obtained with our model against those of other advanced data-driven RUL prediction models for rotating machinery using the PHM12 bearing vibration dataset. The computational experiments show that (1) the VisPro predictions are highly accurate and provide significant improvements over existing prediction models (three times more accurate than the second-best model), and (2) the RUL uncertainty bounds are valid and informative. We identify and discuss the architectural and modeling choices made that explain this excellent predictive performance of VisPro.

Accurate Remaining Useful Life Prediction with Uncertainty Quantification: a Deep Learning and Nonstationary Gaussian Process Approach

Remaining useful life (RUL) refers to the expected remaining lifespan of a component or system. Accurate RUL prediction is critical for prognostic and health management and for maintenance planning. In this work, we address three prevalent challenges in data-driven RUL prediction, namely the handling of high dimensional input features, the robustness to noise in sensor data and prognostic datasets, and the capturing of the time-dependency between system degradation and RUL prediction. We devise a highly accurate RUL prediction model with uncertainty quantification, which integrates and leverages the advantages of deep learning and nonstationary Gaussian process regression (DL-NSGPR). We examine and benchmark our model against other advanced data-driven RUL prediction models using the turbofan engine dataset from the NASA prognostic repository. Our computational experiments show that the DL-NSGPR predictions are highly accurate with root mean square error 1.7 to 6.2 times smaller than those of competing RUL models. Furthermore, the results demonstrate that RUL uncertainty bounds with the proposed DL-NSGPR are both valid and significantly tighter than other stochastic RUL prediction models. We unpack and discuss the reasons for this excellent performance of the DL-NSGPR.

The Possible Equation Of State Of Dark Matter in Low Surface Brightness Galaxies

The observed rotation curves of low surface brightness (LSB) galaxies play an essential role in studying dark matter, and indicate that there exists a central constant density dark matter core. However, the cosmological N-body simulations of cold dark matter predict an inner cusped halo with a power-law mass density distribution, and can't reproduce a central constant-density core. This phenomenon is called cusp-core problem. When dark matter is quiescent and satisfies the condition for hydrostatic equilibrium, using the equation of state can get the density profile in the static and spherically symmetric space-time. To solve the cusp-core problem, we assume that the equation of state is independent of the scaling transformation. Its lower order approximation for this type of equation of state can naturally lead to a special case, i.e. $p=ζρ+2εV_{rot}^{2}ρ$, where $p$ and $ρ$ are the pressure and density, $V_{rot}$ is the rotation velocity of galaxy, $ζ$ and $ ε$ are positive constants. It can obtain a density profile that is similar to the pseudo-isothermal halo model when $ε$ is around $0.15$. To get a more widely used model, let the equation of state include the polytropic model, i.e. $p= \fracζ{ρ_{0}^{s}}ρ^{1+s}+ 2εV_{rot}^{2}ρ$, we can get other kinds of density profiles, such as the profile that is nearly same with the Burkert profile, where $s$ and $ρ_{0}$ are positive constants.
