Scaling policy iteration based reinforcement learning for unknown discrete-time linear systems

In optimal control problem, policy iteration (PI) is a powerful reinforcement learning (RL) tool used for designing optimal controller for the linear systems. However, the need for an initial stabilizing control policy significantly limits its applicability. To address this constraint, this paper proposes a novel scaling technique, which progressively brings a sequence of stable scaled systems closer to the original system, enabling the acquisition of stable control gain. Based on the designed scaling update law, we develop model-based and model-free scaling policy iteration (SPI) algorithms for solving the optimal control problem for discrete-time linear systems, in both known and completely unknown system dynamics scenarios. Unlike existing works on PI based RL, the SPI algorithms do not necessitate an initial stabilizing gain to initialize the algorithms, they can achieve the optimal control under any initial control gain. Finally, the numerical results validate the theoretical findings and confirm the effectiveness of the algorithms.

SkySenseGPT: A Fine-Grained Instruction Tuning Dataset and Model for Remote Sensing Vision-Language Understanding

Remote Sensing Large Multi-Modal Models (RSLMMs) are developing rapidly and showcase significant capabilities in remote sensing imagery (RSI) comprehension. However, due to the limitations of existing datasets, RSLMMs have shortcomings in understanding the rich semantic relations among objects in complex remote sensing scenes. To unlock RSLMMs' complex comprehension ability, we propose a large-scale instruction tuning dataset FIT-RS, containing 1,800,851 instruction samples. FIT-RS covers common interpretation tasks and innovatively introduces several complex comprehension tasks of escalating difficulty, ranging from relation reasoning to image-level scene graph generation. Based on FIT-RS, we build the FIT-RSFG benchmark. Furthermore, we establish a new benchmark to evaluate the fine-grained relation comprehension capabilities of LMMs, named FIT-RSRC. Based on combined instruction data, we propose SkySenseGPT, which achieves outstanding performance on both public datasets and FIT-RSFG, surpassing existing RSLMMs. We hope the FIT-RS dataset can enhance the relation comprehension capability of RSLMMs and provide a large-scale fine-grained data source for the remote sensing community. Estimation for Single-Index mixed models with Longitudinal data

In this paper, we consider a single-index mixed model with longitudinal data. A new set of estimating equations is proposed to estimate the single-index coefficient. The link function is estimated by using the local linear smoothing. Asymptotic normality is established for the proposed estimators. Also, the estimator of the link function achieves optimal convergence rates; and the estimators of variance components have root-$n$ consistency. These results facilitate the construction of confidence regions/intervals and hypothesis testing for the parameters of interest. Some simulations and an application to real data are included.
