AffectSeek: Agentic Affective Understanding in Long Videos under Vague User Queries

Existing affective understanding studies have mainly focused on recognizing emotions from images, audio signals, or pre-cliped video clips, where the affective evidence is already given. This passive and clip-centered setting does not fully reflect real-world scenarios, in which users often interact with long videos and express their needs through natural-language queries. In this paper, we study \textbf{Vague-Query-driven video Affective Understanding (VQAU)}, a new task that requires models to localize affective moments in long videos, predict their emotion categories, and generate evidence-grounded rationales under vague user queries. To support this task, we construct \textbf{VQAU-Bench}, a benchmark that integrates long videos, vague affective queries, temporal clip annotations, emotion labels, and rationale explanations into a unified evaluation framework. VQAU-Bench enables systematic assessment of semantic-temporal-affective alignment, affective moment localization, emotion classification, and rationale generation. To address the multi-step reasoning challenges of VQAU, we further propose \textbf{AffectSeek}, an agentic framework that actively seeks, verifies, and explains affective moments in long videos. AffectSeek decomposes VQAU into intent interpretation, candidate localization, clip verification, emotion reasoning, and rationale generation, and progressively aligns vague user intent with long-video evidence through role-specialized reasoning and cross-stage verification. Experiments show that VQAU remains challenging for existing affective recognition models and single-step vision-language models, while AffectSeek provides a simple yet effective framework for agentic long-video affective understanding.

Computational prediction of ferromagnetic AT6X6 kagome compounds

We present a systematic high-throughput density-functional-theory investigation of the structural and magnetic stability of 312 substitutional compounds in the magnetic kagome AT6X6 family. Our screening confirms the stability of many previously reported structures and predicts several additional stable candidates. Within collinear spin configurations, we find that Fe-based systems predominantly adopt antiferromagnetic ground states, whereas Mn-based analogues exhibit a more balanced distribution between ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic order. For compounds exhibiting several nearly degenerate collinear configurations, we analyze the nature of their magnetic ground states, assess the possible emergence of non-collinear order, and discuss the limitations and uncertainties inherent to standard density-functional approaches. Our electronic-structure analysis further reveals that newly predicted ferromagnetic kagome systems display characteristic features of topological metals, with rich magnetic configurations that can be tuned by chemical substitution. Overall, these ferromagnetic kagome compounds constitute a broad and still largely unexplored materials platform for the emergence of exciting magneto-transport phenomena.

Truly Sub-Nyquist Generalized Eigenvalue Method with High-Resolution

The achievement of spectral super-resolution sensing is critically important for a variety of applications, such as radar, remote sensing, and wireless communication. However, in compressed spectrum sensing, challenges such as spectrum leakage and the picket-fence effect significantly complicate the accurate extraction of super-resolution signal components. Additionally, the practical implementation of random sampling poses a significant hurdle to the widespread adoption of compressed spectrum sensing techniques. To overcome these challenges, this study introduces a generalized eigenvalue method that leverages the incoherence between signal components and the linearity-preserving characteristics of differential operations. This method facilitates the precise extraction of signal component parameters with super-resolution capabilities under sub-Nyquist sampling conditions. The proposed technique is founded on uniform sub-Nyquist sampling, which represents a true sub-Nyquist approach and effectively mitigates the complexities associated with hardware implementation. Furthermore, the proposed method diverges from traditional compressed sensing techniques by operating outside the discrete Fourier transform framework. This departure successfully eliminates spectral leakage and the picket-fence effect. Moreover, it substantially reduces the detrimental impacts of random sampling on signal reconstruction and hardware implementation, thereby enhancing the overall effectiveness and feasibility of spectral super-resolution sensing.

Causally Sufficient and Necessary Feature Expansion for Class-Incremental Learning

Current expansion-based methods for Class Incremental Learning (CIL) effectively mitigate catastrophic forgetting by freezing old features. However, such task-specific features learned from the new task may collide with the old features. From a causal perspective, spurious feature correlations are the main cause of this collision, manifesting in two scopes: (i) guided by empirical risk minimization (ERM), intra-task spurious correlations cause task-specific features to rely on shortcut features. These non-robust features are vulnerable to interference, inevitably drifting into the feature space of other tasks; (ii) inter-task spurious correlations induce semantic confusion between visually similar classes across tasks. To address this, we propose a Probability of Necessity and Sufficiency (PNS)-based regularization method to guide feature expansion in CIL. Specifically, we first extend the definition of PNS to expansion-based CIL, termed CPNS, which quantifies both the causal completeness of intra-task representations and the separability of inter-task representations. We then introduce a dual-scope counterfactual generator based on twin networks to ensure the measurement of CPNS, which simultaneously generates: (i) intra-task counterfactual features to minimize intra-task PNS risk and ensure causal completeness of task-specific features, and (ii) inter-task interfering features to minimize inter-task PNS risk, ensuring the separability of inter-task representations. Theoretical analyses confirm its reliability. The regularization is a plug-and-play method for expansion-based CIL to mitigate feature collision. Extensive experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

A Volume-Price-Adjusted MACD Trading Strategy with Sensitivity Calibration for U.S. Equity Indices

Traditional moving average convergence divergence (MACD) trading rules are often constrained by signal lag and susceptibility to false signals. To address these limitations, this study develops a volume-price-adjusted MACD (VP-MACD) framework that incorporates volume, volatility, and intraday price structure into the conventional indicator, and introduces a sensitivity parameter to allow earlier trade entry and improve responsiveness to market movements. Using the S&P 500, Nasdaq-100, and Dow Jones Industrial Average as representative U.S. equity indices, the model is calibrated over historical records from 2018 to 2022 and evaluated out of sample over 2023 to February 2026. The results indicate that the proposed framework generally delivers better economic performance than the baseline MACD strategy in terms of profitability, risk-adjusted return, and downside-risk control, while generating fewer but more selective trading signals. These findings suggest that incorporating additional market information into technical trading rules may enhance signal quality in U.S. equity index markets.

Paradigm Shift from Statistical Channel Modeling to Digital Twin Prediction: An Environment-Generalizable ChannelLM for 6G AI-enabled Air Interface

As 6G advances, ubiquitous connectivity and higher capacity requirements of the air interface pose substantial challenges for accurate and real-time wireless channel acquisition in diverse environments. Conventional statistical channel modeling relies on offline measurement data from limited environments, struggling to support online applications facing diverse environments. To this end, the digital twin channel (DTC) has emerged as a novel paradigm that constructs a digital replica of the physical environment through high-fidelity sensing and predicts corresponding channel in real time utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) models. As the engine of DTC, existing AI models struggle to simultaneously achieve strong environmental generalization in real-world and end-to-end channel prediction for real time tasks. Therefore, this paper proposes a channel large model (ChannelLM)-driven DTC architecture comprising three modules: low-complexity and high-accuracy environment reconstruction based on dynamic object detection and multimodal alignment of image and point cloud data, physically interpretable environment feature extraction, and a ChannelLM core to mapping these features into generalized environment representations for multi-task channel prediction. Simulation results demonstrate that, in unseen test environments, compared with small-scale AI models, ChannelLM reduces prediction errors by 4.23 dB in channel state information prediction while achieving an end-to-end inference latency of 70 milliseconds in the real world.

Data-Driven Reachability Analysis Using Matrix Perturbation Theory

We propose a matrix zonotope perturbation framework that leverages matrix perturbation theory to characterize how noise-induced distortions alter the dynamics within sets of models. The framework derives interpretable Cai-Zhang bounds for matrix zonotopes (MZs) and extends them to constrained matrix zonotopes (CMZs). Motivated by this analysis and the computational burden of CMZ-based reachable-set propagation, we introduce a coefficient-space approximation in which the constrained coefficient space of the CMZ is over-approximated by an unconstrained zonotope. Replacing CMZ-constrained-zonotope (CZ) products with unconstrained MZ-zonotope multiplication yields a simpler and more scalable reachable-set update. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is substantially faster than the standard CMZ approach while producing reachable sets that are less conservative than those obtained with existing MZ-based methods, advancing practical, accurate, and real-time data-driven reachability analysis.

Effect of Turbulence-Closure Consistency on Airfoil Identification

We consider an inverse flow problem in which the airfoil shape is identified from its wake signature, namely the velocity field in the wake of a target airfoil. This is an ill-posed problem and highly sensitive to the accuracy and consistency of the employed turbulence closure. We first demonstrate that shape identification based on a single flow condition is ill-posed, whereas incorporating multiple wake signatures obtained at different angles of attack substantially mitigates this ill-posedness. We then compare the inferred geometries obtained using different turbulence closures and find that inconsistencies among the models lead to markedly divergent shapes. Consequently, we directly compare the geometric sensitivities obtained from different models at fixed shapes, and find up to a 250 percent difference among these sensitivities. These findings underscore that turbulence-closure consistency is essential for reliable shape identification and further suggest that effective turbulence models must ensure not only accurate predictions but also physically consistent sensitivities-a principle that should guide the development of both classical and data-driven closure models.

From Points to Sets: Set-Based Safety Verification in the Latent Space

We extend latent representation methods for safety control design to set-valued states. Recent work has shown that barrier functions designed in a learned latent space can transfer safety guarantees back to the original system, but these methods evaluate certificates at single state points, ignoring state uncertainty. A fixed safety margin can partially address this but cannot adapt to the anisotropic and time-varying nature of the uncertainty gap across different safety constraints. We instead represent the system state as a zonotope, propagate it through the encoder to obtain a latent zonotope, and evaluate certificates over the worst case of the entire set. On a 16-dimensional quadrotor suspended-load gate passage task, set-valued evaluation achieves 5/5 collision-free passages, compared to 1/5 for point-based evaluation and 2/5 for a fixed-margin baseline. Set evaluation reports safety in 44.4% of per-head evaluations versus 48.5% for point-based, and this greater conservatism detects 4.1% blind spots where point evaluation falsely certifies safety, enabling earlier corrective control. The safety gap between point and set evaluation varies up to $12\times$ across certificate heads, explaining why no single fixed margin suffices and confirming the need for per-head, per-timestep adaptation, which set evaluation provides by construction.

Key Role of Charge Disproportionation in Monoclinic Semiconducting Fe$_2$PO$_5$, a Room-Temperature d-Wave Altermagnet Candidate

$β$-Fe$_2$PO$_5$ is an emerging room-temperature d-wave altermagnet featuring quasi-one-dimensional crystal and magnetic structures, orthogonal transport channels for opposite spins, and large band spin splitting, which is a promising material for next-generation spintronics and magnonics. However, its crystal and electronic structures remain inconclusive. Here, joint experimental and theoretical studies confirm and explain the appearance of its monoclinic structure and semiconducting band gap. We discover that an electronic instability appears in the tetragonal metallic state as the joint effect of density functional theory and Hubbard U correction (DFT+U) and results in a charge disproportionation, which in turn stabilizes the monoclinic distortion with narrow gap formation. The successful capture of this effect within DFT+U requires accounting for the relevant symmetry-breaking energy-lowering channels -- charge disproportionation and structural distortion; otherwise, tetragonal-symmetry-constrained calculations yield only a metallic state. Fe$_2$PO$_5$ is thus best described as a correlation- and hybridization-assisted, distortion-coupled, charge-disproportionated semiconductor. It represents a rare room-temperature semiconducting d-wave altermagnet. It also provides a rare platform for studying the coexistence of altermagnetism and charge density wave in quasi-one-dimensional systems.

Cold-Starts in Generative Recommendation: A Reproducibility Study

Cold-start recommendation remains a central challenge in dynamic, open-world platforms, requiring models to recommend for newly registered users (user cold-start) and to recommend newly introduced items to existing users (item cold-start) under sparse or missing interaction signals. Recent generative recommenders built on pre-trained language models (PLMs) are often expected to mitigate cold-start by using item semantic information (e.g., titles and descriptions) and test-time conditioning on limited user context. However, cold-start is rarely treated as a primary evaluation setting in existing studies, and reported gains are difficult to interpret because key design choices, such as model scale, identifier design, and training strategy, are frequently changed together. In this work, we present a systematic reproducibility study of generative recommendation under a unified suite of cold-start protocols.

Reduced Optical Gain Threshold by Carrier Multiplication in Semiconductor Perovskite Nanocrystals

Carrier multiplication (CM) describes a strong charge-carrier interaction process in semiconductor colloidal nanocrystals (NCs), wherein two band-edge excitons are simultaneously created by an absorbed photon with at least twice the bandgap energy (2 Eg). While being fundamentally intriguing, it has been exclusively utilized to enhance the light-to-electricity conversion efficiencies in the photodetector and solar-cell devices. In this report, we have synthesized the core/shell perovskite FAPbI3/NdF3 NCs with a biexciton recombination lifetime of ~3.9 ns, and demonstrated that a CM efficiency of ~25.7% can be achieved under the ~355 nm laser excitation (~2.21 Eg). This CM occurrence leads to a two-fold reduction in the optical gain threshold, as compared to that obtained under the ~640 nm laser excitation (~1.23 Eg). When combined with the single-exciton and zero-threshold optical gain schemes previously developed for semiconductor colloidal NCs, the CM effect introduced here would further mitigate the optical-pumping requirement for the routine operation of continuous-wave lasing.

Bridging Data-Driven Reachability Analysis and Statistical Estimation via Constrained Matrix Convex Generators

Data-driven reachability analysis enables safety verification when first-principles models are unavailable. This requires constructing sets of system models consistent with measured trajectories and noise assumptions. Existing approaches rely on zonotopic or box-based approximations, which do not fit the geometry of common noise distributions such as Gaussian disturbances and can lead to significant conservatism, especially in high-dimensional settings. This paper builds on ellipsotope-based representations to introduce mixed-norm uncertainty sets for data-driven reachability. The highest-density region defines the exact minimum-volume noise confidence set, while Constrained Convex Generators (CCG) and their matrix counterpart (CMCG) provide compatible geometric representations at the noise and parameter level. We show that the resulting CMCG coincides with the maximum-likelihood confidence ellipsoid for Gaussian disturbances, while remaining strictly tighter than constrained matrix zonotopes for mixed bounded-Gaussian noise. For non-convex noise distributions such as Gaussian mixtures, a minimum-volume enclosing ellipsoid provides a tractable convex surrogate. We further prove containment of the CMCG times CCG product and bound the conservatism of the Gaussian-Gaussian interaction. Numerical examples demonstrate substantially tighter reachable sets compared to box-based approximations of Gaussian disturbances. These results enable less conservative safety verification and improve the accuracy of uncertainty-aware control design.

PINNs in PDE Constrained Optimal Control Problems: Direct vs Indirect Methods

We study physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) as numerical tools for the optimal control of semilinear partial differential equations. We first recall the classical direct and indirect viewpoints for optimal control of PDEs, and then present two PINN formulations: a direct formulation based on minimizing the objective under the state constraint, and an indirect formulation based on the first-order optimality system. For a class of semilinear parabolic equations, we derive the state equation, the adjoint equation, and the stationarity condition in a form consistent with continuous-time Pontryagin-type optimality conditions. We then specialize the framework to an Allen-Cahn control problem and compare three numerical approaches: (i) a discretize-then-optimize adjoint method, (ii) a direct PINN, and (iii) an indirect PINN. Numerical results show that the PINN parameterization has an implicit regularizing effect, in the sense that it tends to produce smoother control profiles. They also indicate that the indirect PINN more faithfully preserves the PDE contraint and optimality structure and yields a more accurate neural approximation than the direct PINN.

Disentangling electronic and phononic contributions to high-temperature superconductivity in X2MH6 hydrides

Understanding the factors that control superconductivity is essential for discovering new superconducting materials using high-throughput elemental substitution. Focusing on the recently predicted ambient-pressure superconducting X2MH6 family, we disentangle the phononic and electronic contributions to Tc to determine how isoelectronic substitution alters superconductivity. While substitution affects both phononic and electronic properties, the electronic contribution plays the dominant role in determining Tc in the X2MH6 family. We show that the electronic contribution is affected by three key factors: the X-H bond distance, the electron localization function networking value of hydrogen, and the hydrogen-projected density of states at the Fermi level. A combined figure of merit derived from these parameters exhibits a robust correlation with Tc across the family. We further show that pressure produces competing effects on superconductivity: it enhances the electronic contribution by shortening X-H bonds, but simultaneously weaken the phononic contribution by increasing phonon frequencies. The net pressure dependence of Tc therefore results from the balance between these opposing tendencies. By disentangling and analyzing the electronic and phononic mechanisms, this work provides comprehensive insight into superconductivity in X2MH6 hydrides and offers practical guidance for designing new high-Tc hydride superconductors.

Data-Driven Nonconvex Reachability Analysis using Exact Set Propagation

This paper studies deterministic data-driven reachability analysis for dynamical systems with unknown dynamics and nonconvex reachable sets. Existing deterministic data-driven approaches typically employ zonotopic set representations, for which the multiplication between a zonotopic model set and a zonotopic state set cannot be represented algebraically exactly, thereby necessitating over-approximation steps in reachable-set propagation. To remove this structural source of conservatism, we introduce constrained polynomial matrix zonotopes (CPMZs) to represent data-consistent model sets, and show that the multiplication between a CPMZ model set and a constrained polynomial zonotope (CPZ) state set admits an algebraically exact CPZ representation. This property enables set propagation entirely within the CPZ representation, thereby avoiding propagation-induced over-approximation and even retaining the ability to represent nonconvex reachable sets. Moreover, we develop set-theoretic results that enable the intersection of data-consistent model sets as new data become available, yielding the proposed online refinement scheme that progressively tightens the data-consistent model set and, in turn, the resulting reachable set. Beyond linear systems, we extend the proposed framework to polynomial dynamics and develop additional set-theoretic results that enable both model-based and data-driven reachability analysis within the same algebraic representation. By deriving algebraically exact CPZ representations for monomials and their compositions, reachable-set propagation can be carried out directly at the set level without resorting to interval arithmetic or relaxation-based bounding techniques. Numerical examples for both linear and polynomial systems demonstrate a significant reduction in conservatism compared to state-of-the-art deterministic data-driven reachability methods.

Pulsar scintillation studies with LOFAR III. Annual variations in PSR~J0814$+$7429

The interstellar scintillation observed in radio pulsars arises from interference between electromagnetic waves scattered by electron density fluctuations in the turbulent interstellar plasma, providing a critical tool for probing the small-scale structure of the ionized interstellar medium and the pulsar system itself. The primary aim of this work is to study long-term scintillation variations for a bright and nearby pulsar, PSR J0814$+$7429, carried out from 2013 September to 2023 September with the LOw-Frequency ARray (LOFAR) High Band Antennae in the frequency range of 120 - 170 MHz. We derive the basic scintillation parameters, scintillation bandwidth ($Δν_{\rm d}$) and scintillation timescale ($Δτ_{\rm d}$), from the two-dimensional (2D) auto-covariance function of the dynamic spectra that are a 2D matrix of pulse intensity as a function of time and frequency. We present the long-term monitoring of $Δν_{\rm d}$ and $Δτ_{\rm d}$ for PSR J0814$+7429$, which shows a strong annual variation in the time series of the $Δτ_{\rm d}$. From our modeling of the annual variations of scintillation velocities, the scattering screen is anisotropic and located at $0.23\pm0.02$ kpc from the Earth, likely corresponding to the boundary of the Local Bubble.

Transformer-Accelerated Interpolated Data-Driven Reachability Analysis from Noisy Data

Data-driven reachability analysis provides guaranteed outer approximations of reachable sets from input-state measurements, yet each propagation step requires a matrix-zonotope multiplication whose cost grows with the horizon length, limiting scalability. We observe that data-driven propagation is inherently step-size sensitive, in the sense that set-valued operators at different discretization resolutions yield non-equivalent reachable sets at the same physical time, a property absent in model-based propagation. Exploiting this multi-resolution structure, we propose Interpolated Reachability Analysis (IRA), which computes a sparse chain of coarse anchor sets sequentially and reconstructs fine-resolution intermediate sets in parallel across coarse intervals. We derive a fully data-driven coarse-noise over-approximation that removes the need for continuous-time system knowledge, prove deterministic outer-approximation guarantees for all interpolated sets, and establish conditional tightness relative to the fine-resolution chain. To replace the remaining matrix-zonotope multiplications in the fine phase, we further develop Transformer-Accelerated IRA (TA-IRA), where an encoder-decoder Transformer is calibrated via split conformal prediction to provide finite-sample pointwise and path-wise coverage certificates. Numerical experiments on a five-dimensional linear system confirm the theoretical guarantees and demonstrate significant computational savings.
