Hollywood Town: Long-Video Generation via Cross-Modal Multi-Agent Orchestration

Recent advancements in multi-agent systems have demonstrated significant potential for enhancing creative task performance, such as long video generation. This study introduces three innovations to improve multi-agent collaboration. First, we propose OmniAgent, a hierarchical, graph-based multi-agent framework for long video generation that leverages a film-production-inspired architecture to enable modular specialization and scalable inter-agent collaboration. Second, inspired by context engineering, we propose hypergraph nodes that enable temporary group discussions among agents lacking sufficient context, reducing individual memory requirements while ensuring adequate contextual information. Third, we transition from directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) to directed cyclic graphs with limited retries, allowing agents to reflect and refine outputs iteratively, thereby improving earlier stages through feedback from subsequent nodes. These contributions lay the groundwork for developing more robust multi-agent systems in creative tasks.

Unpacking Discourses on Childbirth and Parenthood in Popular Social Media Platforms Across China, Japan, and South Korea

Social media use has been shown to be associated with low fertility desires. However, we know little about the discourses surrounding childbirth and parenthood that people consume online. We analyze 219,127 comments on 668 short videos related to reproduction and parenthood from Douyin and Tiktok in China, South Korea, and Japan, a region famous for its extremely low fertility level, to examine the topics and sentiment expressed online. BERTopic model is used to assist thematic analysis, and a large language model QWen is applied to label sentiment. We find that comments focus on childrearing costs in all countries, utility of children, particularly in Japan and South Korea, and individualism, primarily in China. Comments from Douyin exhibit the strongest anti-natalist sentiments, while the Japanese and Korean comments are more neutral. Short video characteristics, such as their stances or account type, significantly influence the responses, alongside regional socioeconomic indicators, including GDP, urbanization, and population sex ratio. This work provides one of the first comprehensive analyses of online discourses on family formation via popular algorithm-fed video sharing platforms in regions experiencing low fertility rates, making a valuable contribution to our understanding of the spread of family values online.

Exploring Gaze Dynamics in VR Film Education: Gender, Avatar, and the Shift Between Male and Female Perspectives

In virtual reality (VR) education, especially in creative fields like film production, avatar design and narrative style extend beyond appearance and aesthetics. This study explores how the interaction between avatar gender, the dominant narrative actor's gender, and the learner's gender influences film production learning in VR, focusing on gaze dynamics and gender perspectives. Using a 2*2*2 experimental design, 48 participants operated avatars of different genders and interacted with male or female-dominant narratives. The results show that the consistency between the avatar and gender affects presence, and learners' control over the avatar is also influenced by gender matching. Learners using avatars of the opposite gender reported stronger control, suggesting gender incongruity prompted more focus on the avatar. Additionally, female participants with female avatars were more likely to adopt a "female gaze," favoring soft lighting and emotional shots, while male participants with male avatars were more likely to adopt a "male gaze," choosing dynamic shots and high contrast. When male participants used female avatars, they favored "female gaze," while female participants with male avatars focused on "male gaze". These findings advance our understanding of how avatar design and narrative style in VR-based education influence creativity and the cultivation of gender perspectives, and they offer insights for developing more inclusive and diverse VR teaching tools going forward.

Modeling GRNs with a Probabilistic Categorical Framework

Understanding the complex and stochastic nature of Gene Regulatory Networks (GRNs) remains a central challenge in systems biology. Existing modeling paradigms often struggle to effectively capture the intricate, multi-factor regulatory logic and to rigorously manage the dual uncertainties of network structure and kinetic parameters. In response, this work introduces the Probabilistic Categorical GRN(PC-GRN) framework. It is a novel theoretical approach founded on the synergistic integration of three core methodologies. Firstly, category theory provides a formal language for the modularity and composition of regulatory pathways. Secondly, Bayesian Typed Petri Nets (BTPNs) serve as an interpretable, mechanistic substrate for modeling stochastic cellular processes, with kinetic parameters themselves represented as probability distributions. The central innovation of PC-GRN is its end-to-end generative Bayesian inference engine, which learns a full posterior distribution over BTPN models (P (G, Θ|D)) directly from data. This is achieved by the novel interplay of a GFlowNet, which learns a policy to sample network topologies, and a HyperNetwork, which performs amortized inference to predict their corresponding parameter distributions. The resulting framework provides a mathematically rigorous, biologically interpretable, and uncertainty-aware representation of GRNs, advancing predictive modeling and systems-level analysis.

EchoAid: Enhancing Livestream Shopping Accessibility for the DHH Community

Livestream shopping platforms often overlook the accessibility needs of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) community, leading to barriers such as information inaccessibility and overload. To tackle these challenges, we developed \textit{EchoAid}, a mobile app designed to improve the livestream shopping experience for DHH users. \textit{EchoAid} utilizes advanced speech-to-text conversion, Rapid Serial Visual Presentation (RSVP) technology, and Large Language Models (LLMs) to simplify the complex information flow in live sales environments. We conducted exploratory studies with eight DHH individuals to identify design needs and iteratively developed the \textit{EchoAid} prototype based on feedback from three participants. We then evaluate the performance of this system in a user study workshop involving 38 DHH participants. Our findings demonstrate the successful design and validation process of \textit{EchoAid}, highlighting its potential to enhance product information extraction, leading to reduced cognitive overload and more engaging and customized shopping experiences for DHH users.

CineVision: An Interactive Pre-visualization Storyboard System for Director-Cinematographer Collaboration

Effective communication between directors and cinematographers is fundamental in film production, yet traditional approaches relying on visual references and hand-drawn storyboards often lack the efficiency and precision necessary during pre-production. We present CineVision, an AI-driven platform that integrates scriptwriting with real-time visual pre-visualization to bridge this communication gap. By offering dynamic lighting control, style emulation based on renowned filmmakers, and customizable character design, CineVision enables directors to convey their creative vision with heightened clarity and rapidly iterate on scene composition. In a 24-participant lab study, CineVision yielded shorter task times and higher usability ratings than two baseline methods, suggesting a potential to ease early-stage communication and accelerate storyboard drafts under controlled conditions. These findings underscore CineVision's potential to streamline pre-production processes and foster deeper creative synergy among filmmaking teams, particularly for new collaborators. Our code and demo are available at https://github.com/TonyHongtaoWu/CineVision.

NQKV: A KV Cache Quantization Scheme Based on Normal Distribution Characteristics

Large Language Models (LLMs) have demonstrated remarkable proficiency across a wide range of tasks. However, LLMs often require larger batch sizes to enhance throughput or longer context lengths to meet task demands, which significantly increases the memory resource consumption of the Key-Value (KV) cache during inference, becoming a major bottleneck in LLM deployment. To address this issue, quantization is a common and straightforward approach. Currently, quantization methods for activations are limited to 8-bit, and quantization to even lower bits can lead to substantial accuracy drops. To further save space by quantizing the KV cache to even lower bits, we analyzed the element distribution of the KV cache and designed the NQKV algorithm. Since the elements within each block of the KV cache follow a normal distribution, NQKV employs per-block quantile quantization to achieve information-theoretically optimal quantization error. Without significantly compromising model output quality, NQKV enables the OPT model to perform inference with an 2x larger batch size or a 4x longer context length, and it improves throughput by 9.3x compared to when the KV cache is not used.

TSUE: A Two-Stage Data Update Method for an Erasure Coded Cluster File System

Compared to replication-based storage systems, erasure-coded storage incurs significantly higher overhead during data updates. To address this issue, various parity logging methods have been pro- posed. Nevertheless, due to the long update path and substantial amount of random I/O involved in erasure code update processes, the resulting long latency and low throughput often fail to meet the requirements of high performance applications. To this end, we propose a two-stage data update method called TSUE. TSUE divides the update process into a synchronous stage that records updates in a data log, and an asynchronous stage that recycles the log in real-time. TSUE effectively reduces update latency by transforming random I/O into sequential I/O, and it significantly reduces recycle overhead by utilizing a three-layer log and the spatio-temporal locality of access patterns. In SSDs cluster, TSUE significantly im- proves update performance, achieving improvements of 7.6X under Ali-Cloud trace, 5X under Ten-Cloud trace, while it also extends the SSD's lifespan by up to 13X through reducing the frequencies of reads/writes and of erase operations.

Error Controlled Cubic Spline Interpolation in CNC Technology

Traditional CNC technology mostly uses the method of increasing the degree of interpolation polynomial when constructing $C^2$ continuous NURBS curves, but this often leads to the appearance of Runge phenomenon in interpolation curves. Alternatively, the method of adding boundary conditions at the endpoints can often make it difficult to control the error range of the interpolation curve. This article presents a $C^2$ continuous cubic B-spline curve interpolation method, which achieves $C^2$ continuity of the interpolation curve when the interpolation polynomial is cubic. At the same time, this article also studies the corresponding error control methods.

Scalable Field-Aligned Reparameterization for Trimmed NURBS

In engineering design, one of the most daunting problems in the design-through-analysis workflow is to deal with trimmed NURBS (Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines), which often involve topological/geometric issues and lead to inevitable gaps and overlaps in the model. Given the dominance of the trimming technology in CAD systems, reconstructing such a model as a watertight representation is highly desired. While remarkable progress has been made in recent years, especially with the advancement of isogeometric analysis (IGA), there still lack a fully automatic and scalable tool to achieve this reconstruction goal. To address this issue, we present a semi-automatic and scalable reparameterization pipeline based on a scalable and feature-aligned meshing tool, QuadriFlow [1]. On top of it, we provide support for open surfaces to deal with engineering shell structures, and perform sophisticated patch simplification to remove undesired tiny/slender patches. As a result, we obtain a watertight spline surface (multi-patch NURBS or unstructured splines) with a simple quadrilateral layout. Through several challenging models from industry applications, we demonstrate the efficacy and efficiency of the proposed pipeline as well as its integration with IGA. Our source code is publicly available on GitHub [2].

Feature Selection Based on Orthogonal Constraints and Polygon Area

The goal of feature selection is to choose the optimal subset of features for a recognition task by evaluating the importance of each feature, thereby achieving effective dimensionality reduction. Currently, proposed feature selection methods often overlook the discriminative dependencies between features and labels. To address this problem, this paper introduces a novel orthogonal regression model incorporating the area of a polygon. The model can intuitively capture the discriminative dependencies between features and labels. Additionally, this paper employs a hybrid non-monotone linear search method to efficiently tackle the non-convex optimization challenge posed by orthogonal constraints. Experimental results demonstrate that our approach not only effectively captures discriminative dependency information but also surpasses traditional methods in reducing feature dimensions and enhancing classification performance.

Topological phases in the periodically kicked Chern insulators

Novel topological properties that arose in the periodically driven system are unique, in which there are two kinds of quasienergy gaps, the zero quasienergy gap and the $π$ quasienergy gap. The corresponding edge modes would traverse either the zero quasienergy gap or the $π$ quasienergy gap, or traverse both two quasienergy gaps. And the characterization of these two kinds of edge modes might not be the same. However, in this paper, we find that both the zero edge modes and the $π$ edge modes in the Floquet Chern insulators can be characterized by the same topological invariant, where the corresponding Dirac mass term is periodically kicked. Particularly, we take the periodically kicked Qi-Wu-Zhang model as an illustrative example. In this model, the topology is characterized by the Floquet Chern number $C_F$, and there are six different topological phases in total, denoted as $C_F=\{-1_0,-2,-1_π,1_π,2,1_0\}$. Furthermore, we find that the Floquet operator associated with the periodically kicked Qi-Wu-Zhang model reduces to a Dirac Hamiltonian in the low-energy limit. Then, the phase diagram is uncovered by examining the topology of this Dirac Hamiltonian. Additionally, we explore the orders of topological phase transitions in the context of Floquet stationary states by analyzing the von Neumann entropy of these states. Our work provides further insights into the topological phases in periodically driven systems.

Hetero$^2$Net: Heterophily-aware Representation Learning on Heterogenerous Graphs

Real-world graphs are typically complex, exhibiting heterogeneity in the global structure, as well as strong heterophily within local neighborhoods. While a growing body of literature has revealed the limitations of common graph neural networks (GNNs) in handling homogeneous graphs with heterophily, little work has been conducted on investigating the heterophily properties in the context of heterogeneous graphs. To bridge this research gap, we identify the heterophily in heterogeneous graphs using metapaths and propose two practical metrics to quantitatively describe the levels of heterophily. Through in-depth investigations on several real-world heterogeneous graphs exhibiting varying levels of heterophily, we have observed that heterogeneous graph neural networks (HGNNs), which inherit many mechanisms from GNNs designed for homogeneous graphs, fail to generalize to heterogeneous graphs with heterophily or low level of homophily. To address the challenge, we present Hetero$^2$Net, a heterophily-aware HGNN that incorporates both masked metapath prediction and masked label prediction tasks to effectively and flexibly handle both homophilic and heterophilic heterogeneous graphs. We evaluate the performance of Hetero$^2$Net on five real-world heterogeneous graph benchmarks with varying levels of heterophily. The results demonstrate that Hetero$^2$Net outperforms strong baselines in the semi-supervised node classification task, providing valuable insights into effectively handling more complex heterogeneous graphs.

Non-Hermitian Chiral Skin Effect

The interplay between non-Hermitian effects and topological insulators has become a frontier of research in non-Hermitian physics. However, the existence of a non-Hermitian skin effect for topological-protected edge states remains controversial. In this paper, we discover an alternative form of the non-Hermitian skin effect called the non-Hermitian chiral skin effect (NHCSE). NHCSE is a non-Hermitian skin effect under periodic boundary condition rather than open boundary condition. Specifically, the chiral modes of the NHCSE localize around \textquotedblleft topological defects\textquotedblright characterized by global dissipation rather than being confined to the system boundaries. We show its detailed physical properties by taking the non-Hermitian Haldane model as an example. As a result, the intrinsic mechanism of the hybrid skin-topological effect in Chern insulators is fully understood via NHCSE. Therefore, this progress will be helpful for solving the controversial topic of hybrid skin-topological effect and thus benefit the research on both non-Hermitian physics and topological quantum states.

Is It the End? Guidelines for Cinematic Endings in Data Videos

Data videos are becoming increasingly popular in society and academia. Yet little is known about how to create endings that strengthen a lasting impression and persuasion. To fulfill the gap, this work aims to develop guidelines for data video endings by drawing inspiration from cinematic arts. To contextualize cinematic endings in data videos, 111 film endings and 105 data video endings are first analyzed to identify four common styles using the framework of ending punctuation marks. We conducted expert interviews (N=11) and formulated 20 guidelines for creating cinematic endings in data videos. To validate our guidelines, we conducted a user study where 24 participants were invited to design endings with and without our guidelines, which are evaluated by experts and the general public. The participants praise the clarity and usability of the guidelines, and results show that the endings with guidelines are perceived to be more understandable, impressive, and reflective.
