Long Distance Daylight Drone-based Quantum Key Distribution under Relative Motion

Low-altitude drones can serve as dynamic nodes apparently mitigating terrain-induced impacts for quantum networks. However, it is extremely hard to establish a sable quantum link in a drone-based dynamic platform, which requires centimeter-level positioning techniques and high-precision time synchronization technologies. In this paper, we develop a single-ended polarization adaptive correction technology at both the transmitting and receiving ends. Based on this, we present the world's first kilometer-scale drone-based QKD network, achieving an 1.2 km free-space QKD link with a secure key rate of 2.76 kbps, suitable for urban quantum network deployment. We validate the feasibility of QKD between dynamic drone and ground unmanned vehicle at a relative speed of 1 m/s over a distance of 100 m, attaining a secure key rate of 70.94 kbps. This work advances drone-based QKD from static demonstrations to practical dynamic network, boasting great development potential for an airborne quantum internet.

Measurement-Device-Independent Quantum Coin Tossing

Quantum coin tossing (QCT) is an important primitive of quantum cryptography and has received continuous interest. However, in practical QCT, Bob's detectors can be subjected to detector-side channel attacks launched by dishonest Alice, which will possibly make the protocol completely insecure. Here, we report a simple strategy of a detector-blinding attack based on a recent experiment. To remove all the detector side channels, we present a solution of measurement-device-independent QCT (MDI-QCT). This method is similar to the idea of MDI quantum key distribution (QKD). MDI-QCT is loss tolerant with single-photon sources and has the same bias as the original loss-tolerant QCT under a coherent attack. Moreover, it provides the potential advantage of doubling the secure distance for some special cases. Finally, MDI-QCT can also be modified to fit the weak coherent-state sources. Thus, based on the rapid development of practical MDI-QKD, our proposal can be implemented easily.

Field Experiment on a Robust Hierarchical Metropolitan Quantum Cryptography Network

A hierarchical metropolitan quantum cryptography network upon the inner-city commercial telecom fiber cables is reported in this paper. The seven-user network contains a four-node backbone net with one node acting as the subnet gateway, a two-user subnet and a single-fiber access link, which is realized by the Faraday-Michelson Interferometer set-ups. The techniques of the quantum router, optical switch and trusted relay are assembled here to guarantee the feasibility and expandability of the quantum cryptography network. Five nodes of the network are located in the government departments and the secure keys generated by the quantum key distribution network are utilized to encrypt the instant video, sound, text messages and confidential files transmitting between these bureaus. The whole implementation including the hierarchical quantum cryptographic communication network links and corresponding application software shows a big step toward the practical user-oriented network with high security level.
