Global periodic-data rigidity for irreducible toral automorphisms

We prove a global \(C^{1+\text{Hölder}}\)-rigidity theorem for Anosov diffeomorphisms of tori with irreducible linearization. Let \(f:\mathbb T^N\to\mathbb T^N\) be a \(C^2\) Anosov diffeomorphism with linearization \(A\in GL(N,\mathbb Z)\), and assume that \(A\) is irreducible. If, for every periodic point \(p=f^n p\), the linear maps \(Df_p^n\) and \(A^n\) are conjugate, then the Franks--Manning conjugacy between \(f\) and \(A\) is \(C^{1+\text{Hölder}}\). Thus, in the irreducible case, periodic data completely characterize global \(C^{1+\text{Hölder}}\)-rigidity. The proof does not assume conformality, uniform quasiconformality, simplicity of the spectrum, or any restriction on Lyapunov multiplicities. The main ingredient is a new partial-to-global rigidity mechanism combining geometric and analytic arguments. We first obtain partial cocycle rigidity on canonical conformal layers inside the Lyapunov blocks by geometric methods, and then promote this partial rigidity to full regularity of the conjugacy along the Lyapunov blocks by analytic methods. The same method yields a local rigidity theorem for \(C^1\)-small \(C^{1+\text{Hölder}}\) perturbations of \(A\).

Multiple mixing and multiple fractional cohomological equation: semisimple setting

The purpose of this paper is to develop a new effective approach to higher-order mixing in the semisimple setting. We prove effective exponential mixing of all orders for partially hyperbolic algebraic actions, under a strong spectral-gap assumption. The decay rates are explicit in the Lyapunov and spectral-gap data, and the required Sobolev orders are explicit. Already at order two, our estimates require only partial Sobolev/Hölder regularity along weak stable and unstable subgroup directions, with no transverse derivatives. For representations admitting better-than-tempered decay, the resulting order-two estimate attains the optimal matrix-coefficient exponent. The proof introduces a new fractional-cohomological method in the semisimple setting. The central analytic input is a solvability theory for multiple fractional cohomological equations of Type~$II$ (sum-of-product type). These equations are solvable in a cohomology-free range governed by the spectral behavior near the edge \(0\), and the solutions satisfy estimates in partial Sobolev norms. This mechanism converts fractional solvability into order-two decay of correlations under partial regularity, and then into effective higher-order mixing, yielding a quantitative form of Rokhlin's multiple-mixing problem.

Multiple Fractional Cohomological Equations and Quantitative Mixing on Nilmanifolds

We develop a new analytic method for quantitative mixing of automorphisms on nilmanifolds. The method is based on the introduction and solvability of \emph{multiple fractional cohomological equations of Type~$I$} (sum type). We prove that these equations are solvable in a cohomology-free range governed by the spectral behavior at the edge \(0\), with estimates in partial Sobolev/Hölder norms along (weak) stable/unstable subgroup directions only. As consequences, we obtain exponential decay of order-two correlations under partial regularity, without transverse derivatives, and quantitative mixing of all orders (a quantitative Rokhlin theorem) with rates explicit in the dynamical data. In particular, we show that irrational automorphisms exhibit super-exponential mixing of all orders for $C^\infty$ observables. To our knowledge, these are the first examples of super-exponential mixing beyond the torus, and the first examples of all-orders super-exponential mixing.

Local rigidity of higher rank partially hyperbolic algebraic actions

We give a complete solution to the local classification program of higher rank partially hyperbolic algebraic actions. We show $C^\infty$ local rigidity of abelian ergodic algebraic actions for symmetric space examples, twisted symmetric space examples and automorphisms on nilmanifolds. The method is a combination of representation theory, harmonic analysis and a KAM iteration. A striking feature of the method is no specific information from representation theory is needed. It is the first time local rigidity for non-accessible partially hyperbolic actions has ever been obtained other than torus examples. Even for Anosov actions, our results are new: it is the first time twisted spaces with non-abelian nilradical have been treated in the literature.

Local rigidity of weak or no hyperbolicity algebraic actions

In this paper we study rigidity properties of abelian \hyphenation{break-able}actions with weak or no hyperbolicty. We introduce a general strategy for proving $C^\infty$ local rigidity of algebraic actions. As a consequence, we show $C^\infty$ local rigidity for a broad class of parabolic algebraic actions on homogeneous spaces of semisimple Lie groups. This is the first time in the literature that (strong) local rigidity for these actions is addressed.

Smooth local rigidity for hyperbolic toral automorphisms

We study the regularity of a conjugacy $H$ between a hyperbolic toral automorphism $A$ and its smooth perturbation $f$ We show that if $H$ is weakly differentiable then it is $C^{1+Hölder}$ and, if $A$ is also weakly irreducible, then $H$ is $C^\infty$. As a part of the proof, we establish results of independent interest on Hölder continuity of a measurable conjugacy between linear cocycles over a hyperbolic system. As a corollary, we improve regularity of the conjugacy to $C^\infty$ in prior local rigidity results.

Local rigidity for hyperbolic toral automorphisms

We consider a hyperbolic toral automorphism $L$ and its $C^1$-small perturbation $f$. It is well-known that $f$ is Anosov and topologically conjugate to $L$, but a conjugacy $H$ is only Hölder continuous in general. We discuss conditions for smoothness of $H$, such as conjugacy of the periodic data of $f$ and $L$, coincidence of their Lyapunov exponents, and weaker regularity of $H$, and we summarize questions, results, and techniques in this area. Then we introduce our new results: if $H$ is weakly differentiable then it is $C^{1+\text{Hölder}}$ and, if $L$ is also weakly irreducible, then $H$ is $C^\infty$.

The twisted cohomological equation over the partially hyperbolic flow

Let $\mathbb{G}$ be a higher-rank connected semisimple Lie group with finite center and without compact factors. In any unitary representation $(π, \mathcal{H})$ of $\mathbb{G}$ without non-trivial $\mathbb{G}$-fixed vectors, we study the twisted cohomological equation $(X+m)f=g$, where $m\in\mathbb{R}$ and $X$ is in a $\mathbb{R}$-split Cartan subalgebra of $\text{Lie}(\mathbb{G})$. We characterize the obstructions to solving the cohomological equation, construct smooth solutions of the cohomological equation and obtain tame Sobolev estimates for $f$. We also study common solution to (the infinitesimal version of) the twisted cocycle equation $(X+m)g_1=(\mathfrak{v}+m_1)g_2$, where $\mathfrak{v}$ is nilpotent or in a $\mathbb{R}$-split Cartan subalgebra, $m,m_1\in\mathbb{R}$. This is the first paper studying general twisted equations. Compared to former papers, a new technique in representation theory is developed by Mackey theory and Mellin transform.

The twisted cohomological equation over the geodesic flow

We study the twisted cohomoligical equation over the geodesic flow on $SL(2,\mathbb{R})/Γ$. We characterize the obstructions to solving the twisted cohomological equation, construct smooth solution and obtain the tame Sobolev estimates for the solution, i.e, there is finite loss of regularity (with respect to Sobolev norms) between the twisted coboundary and the solution. We also give a tame splittings for non-homogeneous cohomological equations. The result can be viewed as a first step toward the application of KAM method in obtaining differential rigidity for partially hyperbolic actions in products of rank-one groups in future works.

Cohomological equation and cocycle rigidity of discrete parabolic actions in some higher rank Lie groups

Let $\mathbb{G}$ denote a higher rank $\mathbb R$-split simple Lie group of the following type: $SL(n,\mathbb R)$, $SO_o(m,m)$, $E_{6(6)}$, $E_{7(7)}$ and $E_{8(8)}$, where $m\geq 4$ and $n \geq 3$. We study the cohomological equation for discrete parabolic actions on $\mathbb G$ via representation theory. Specifically, we characterize the obstructions to solving the cohomological equation and construct smooth solutions with Sobolev estimates. We prove that global estimates of the solution are generally not tame, and our non-tame estimates in the case $\mathbb G=SL(n,\mathbb R)$ are sharp up to finite loss of regularity. Moreover, we prove that for general $\mathbb G$ the estimates are tame in all but one direction, and as an application, we obtain tame estimates for the common solution of the cocycle equations. We also give a sufficient condition for which the first cohomology with coefficients in smooth vector fields is trivial. In the case that $\mathbb G=SL(n,\mathbb R)$, we show this condition is also necessary. A new method is developed to prove tame directions involving computations within maximal unipotent subgroups of the unitary duals of $SL(2,\mathbb R)\ltimes\mathbb R^2$ and $SL(2,\mathbb R)\ltimes\mathbb R^4$. A new technique is also developed to prove non-tameness for solutions of the cohomological equation.

Cohomological equation and cocycle rigidity of discrete parabolic actions

We study the cohomological equation for discrete horocycle maps on $SL(2, \mathbb{R})$ and $SL(2,\mathbb R)\times SL(2, \mathbb{R})$ via representation theory. Specifically, we prove Hilbert Sobolev non-tame estimates for solutions of the cohomological equation of horocycle maps in representations of $SL(2,\mathbb R)$. Our estimates improve on previous results and are sharp up to a fixed, finite loss of regularity. Moreover, they are tame on a co-dimension one subspace of $sl(2, \mathbb R)$, and we prove tame cocycle rigidity for some two-parameter discrete actions, improving on a previous result. Our estimates on the cohomological equation of horocycle maps overcome difficulties in previous papers by working in a more suitable model for $SL(2, \mathbb R)$ in which all cases of irreducible, unitary representations of $SL(2, \mathbb R)$ can be studied simultaneously. Finally, our results combine with those of a very recent paper by the authors to give cohomology results for discrete parabolic actions in regular representations of some general classes of simple Lie groups, providing a fundamental step toward proving differential local rigidity of parabolic actions in this general setting.

Local Rigidity of Higher Rank Homogeneous Abelian Actions: a Complete Solution via the Geometric Method

We show local and cocycle rigidity for $\R^k \times \Z^l$ partially hyperbolic translation actions on homogeneous spaces $\mc G/ Λ$. We consider a large class of actions whose geometric properties are more complicated than previously treated cases. It is also the first time that partially hyperbolic twisted symmetric space examples have been treated in the literature. The main new ingredient in the proof is a combination of geometric method and the theory of central extensions.

Local rigidity of higher rank non-abelian action on tours

In this paper, we show local smooth rigidity for higher rank ergodic nilpotent action by toral automorphisms and prove the existence of such action on any torus TN for any even N ? 6. We also give examples of smooth rigidity of actions having rank-one factors. The method is a generalization of the KAM (Kolmogorov-Arnold-Moser) iterative scheme.

Some ergodic and rigidity properties of discrete Heisenberg group actions

The goal of this paper is to study ergodic and rigidity properties of smooth actions of the discrete Heisenberg group $\H$. We establish the decomposition of the tangent space of any $C^\infty$ compact Riemannian manifold $M$ for Lyapunov exponents, and show that all Lyapunov exponents for the center elements are zero. We obtain that if an $\H$ group action contains an Anosov element, then under certain conditions on the element, the center elements are of finite order. In particular there is no faithful codimensional one Anosov Heisenberg group action on any manifolds, and no faithful codimensional two Anosov Heisenberg group action on tori. In addition, we show smooth local rigidity for higher rank ergodic $\H$ actions by toral automorphisms, using a generalization of the KAM (Kolmogorov-Arnold-Moser) iterative scheme.

Cohomological equation and cocycle rigidity of parabolic actions in $SL(n,\RR)$

For any unitary representation $(π,\mathcal{H})$ of $G=SL(n,\RR)$, $n\geq 3$ without non-trivial $G$-invariant vectors, we study smooth solutions of the cohomological equation $\mathfrak{u}f=g$ where $\mathfrak{u}$ is a vector in the root space of $\mathfrak{sl}(n,\RR)$ and $g$ is a given vector in $\mathcal{H}$. We characterize the obstructions to solving the cohomological equation, construct smooth solutions of the cohomological equation and obtain tame Sobolev estimates for $f$. We also study common solutions to (the infinitesimal version of) the cocycle equation $\mathfrak{u}h=\mathfrak{v}g$, where $\mathfrak{u}$ and $\mathfrak{v}$ are commutative vectors in different root spaces of $\mathfrak{sl}(n,\RR)$ and $g$ and $h$ are given vectors in $\mathcal{H}$. We give precisely the condition under which the cocycle equation has common solutions: $(*)$ if $\mathfrak{u}$ and $\mathfrak{v}$ embed in $\mathfrak{sl}(2,\RR)\times \RR$, then the common solution exists. Otherwise, we show counter examples in each $SL(n,\RR)$, $n\geq 3$. As an application, we obtain smooth cocycle rigidity for higher rank parabolic actions over $SL(n,\RR)/Γ$, $n\geq 4$ if the Lie algebra of the acting parabolic subgroup contains a pair $\mathfrak{u}$ and $\mathfrak{v}$ satisfying property $(*)$ and prove that the cocycle rigidity fails otherwise. Especially, the cocycle rigidity always fails for $SL(3,\RR)$. The main new ingredient in the proof is making use of unitary duals of various subgroup in $SL(n,\RR)$ isomorphic to $SL(2,\RR)\ltimes\RR^2$ or $(SL(2,\RR)\ltimes\RR^2)\ltimes\RR^3$ obtained by Mackey theory.

Uniform pointwise bounds for Matrix coefficients of unitary representations on semidirect products

Let $k$ be a local field of characteristic 0, and let $G$ be a connected semisimple almost $k$-algebraic group. Suppose rank$_kG\geq 1$ and $ρ$ is an excellent representation of $G$ on a finite dimensional $k$-vector space $V$. We construct uniform pointwise bounds for the $K$-finite matrix coefficients restricted on $G$ of all unitary representations of the semi-direct product $G\ltimes_ρV$ without non-trivial $V$-fixed vectors. These bounds turn out to be sharper than the bounds obtained from $G$ itself for some cases. As an application, we discuss a simple method of calculating Kazhdan constants for various compact subsets of the pair $(G\ltimes_ρV,V)$.
