Suppression of soliton collapses, modulational instability, and rogue-wave excitation in two-Lévy-index fractional Kerr media

s in laser systems with two fractional-dispersion/diffraction terms, quantified by their Lévy indices, $α_{1}\, α_{2}\in (1, 2]$, and self-focusing or defocusing Kerr nonlinearity. Some fundamental solitons are obtained by means of the variational approximation, which are verified by comparison with numerical results. We find that the soliton collapse, exhibited by the one-dimensional cubic fractional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with only one Lévy index $α=1$, can be suppressed in the two-Lévy-index fractional nonlinear Schrödinger system. Stability of the solitons is also explored against collisions with Gaussian pulses and adiabatic variation of the system parameters. Modulation instability of continuous waves is investigated in the two-Lévy-index system too. In particular, the modulation instability may occur in the case of the defocusing nonlinearity when two diffraction coefficients have opposite signs. Using results for the modulation instability, we produce first- and second-order rogue waves on top of continuous waves, for both signs of the Kerr nonlinearity.

Dynamics of discrete solitons in the fractional discrete nonlinear Schrödinger equation with the quasi-Riesz derivative

We elaborate a fractional discrete nonlinear Schrödinger (FDNLS) equation based on an appropriately modified definition of the Riesz fractional derivative, which is characterized by its Lévy index (LI). This FDNLS equation represents a novel discrete system, in which the nearest-neighbor coupling is combined with long-range interactions, that decay as the inverse square of the separation between lattice sites. The system may be realized as an array of parallel quasi-one-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensates composed of atoms or small molecules carrying, respectively, a permanent magnetic or electric dipole moment. The dispersion relation (DR) for lattice waves and the corresponding propagation band in the system's linear spectrum are found in an exact form for all values of LI. The DR is consistent with the continuum limit, differing in the range of wavenumbers. Formation of single-site and two-site discrete solitons is explored, starting from the anti-continuum limit and continuing the analysis in the numerical form up to the existence boundary of the discrete solitons. Stability of the solitons is identified in terms of eigenvalues for small perturbations, and verified in direct simulations. Mobility of the discrete solitons is considered too, by means of an estimate of the system's Peierls-Nabarro potential barrier, and with the help of direct simulations. Collisions between persistently moving discrete solitons are also studied.

Large-space and long-time asymptotic behaviors of $N_{\infty}$-soliton solutions (soliton gas) for the focusing Hirota equation

The Hirota equation is one of the integrable higher-order extensions of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation, and can describe the ultra-short optical pulse propagation in the form $iq_t+α(q_{xx}+ 2|q|^2q)+iβ(q_{xxx}+ 6|q|^2q_x)=0,\, (x,t)\in\mathbb{R}^2\, (α,\,β\in\mathbb{R})$. In this paper, we analytically explore the asymptotic behaviors of a soliton gas for the Hirota equation including the complex modified KdV equation, in which the soliton gas is regarded as the limit $N\to \infty$ of $N$-soliton solutions, and characterized using the Riemann-Hilbert problem with discrete spectra restricted in the intervals $(ia, ib)\cup (-ib, -ia)\, (0 4βb^2,\, ξ_c<x/t<4βb^2,\, x/t<ξ_c$. Moreover, we analyze the property of the soliton gas for the case of the discrete spectra filling uniformly a quadrature domain.

Data-driven localized waves and parameter discovery in the massive Thirring model via extended physics-informed neural networks with interface zones

In this paper, we study data-driven localized wave solutions and parameter discovery in the massive Thirring (MT) model via the deep learning in the framework of physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) algorithm. Abundant data-driven solutions including soliton of bright/dark type, breather and rogue wave are simulated accurately and analyzed contrastively with relative and absolute errors. For higher-order localized wave solutions, we employ the extended PINNs (XPINNs) with domain decomposition to capture the complete pictures of dynamic behaviors such as soliton collisions, breather oscillations and rogue-wave superposition. In particular, we modify the interface line in domain decomposition of XPINNs into a small interface zone and introduce the pseudo initial, residual and gradient conditions as interface conditions linked adjacently with individual neural networks. Then this modified approach is applied successfully to various solutions ranging from bright-bright soliton, dark-dark soliton, dark-antidark soliton, general breather, Kuznetsov-Ma breather and second-order rogue wave. Experimental results show that this improved version of XPINNs reduce the complexity of computation with faster convergence rate and keep the quality of learned solutions with smoother stitching performance as well. For the inverse problems, the unknown coefficient parameters of linear and nonlinear terms in the MT model are identified accurately with and without noise by using the classical PINNs algorithm.

Deep learning soliton dynamics and complex potentials recognition for 1D and 2D PT-symmetric saturable nonlinear Schrödinger equations

In this paper, we firstly extend the physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) to learn data-driven stationary and non-stationary solitons of 1D and 2D saturable nonlinear Schrödinger equations (SNLSEs) with two fundamental PT-symmetric Scarf-II and periodic potentials in optical fibers. Secondly, the data-driven inverse problems are studied for PT-symmetric potential functions discovery rather than just potential parameters in the 1D and 2D SNLSEs. Particularly, we propose a modified PINNs (mPINNs) scheme to identify directly the PT potential functions of the 1D and 2D SNLSEs by the solution data. And the inverse problems about 1D and 2D PT -symmetric potentials depending on propagation distance z are also investigated using mPINNs method. We also identify the potential functions by the PINNs applied to the stationary equation of the SNLSE. Furthermore, two network structures are compared under different parameter conditions such that the predicted PT potentials can achieve the similar high accuracy. These results illustrate that the established deep neural networks can be successfully used in 1D and 2D SNLSEs with high accuracies. Moreover, some main factors affecting neural networks performance are discussed in 1D and 2D PT Scarf-II and periodic potentials, including activation functions, structures of the networks, and sizes of the training data. In particular, twelve different nonlinear activation functions are in detail analyzed containing the periodic and non-periodic functions such that it is concluded that selecting activation functions according to the form of solution and equation usually can achieve better effect.

Symmetry breaking bifurcations and excitations of solitons in linearly coupled NLS equations with PT-symmetric potentials

We address symmetry breaking bifurcations (SBBs) in the ground-state (GS) and dipole-mode (DM) solitons of the 1D linearly coupled NLS equations, modeling the propagation of light in a dual-core planar waveguide with the Kerr nonlinearity and two types of PT-symmetric potentials. The PT-symmetric potential is employed to obtained different types of solutions. A supercritical pitchfork bifurcation occurs in families of symmetric solutions of both the GS and DM types. A novel feature of the system is interplay between breakings of the PT and inter-core symmetries. Stability of symmetric GS and DM modes and their asymmetric counterparts, produced by SBBs of both types, is explored via the linear-stability analysis and simulations. It is found that the instability of PT-symmetric solutions takes place prior to the inter-core symmetry breaking. Surprisingly, stable inter-core-symmetric GS solutions may remain stable while the PT symmetry is broken. Fully asymmetric GS and DM solitons are only partially stable. Moreover, we construct symmetric and asymmetric GS solitons under the action of a pure imaginary localized potential, for which the SBB is subcritical. These results exhibit that stable solitons can still be found in dissipative systems. Finally, excitations of symmetric and asymmetric GS solitons are investigated by making the potential's parameters or the system's coupling constant functions, showing that GS solitons can be converted from an asymmetric shape onto a symmetric one under certain conditions. These results may pave the way for the study of linear and nonlinear phenomena in a dual-core planar waveguide with PT potential and related experimental designs.

Well-posedness of scattering data for the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation in $H^s(\mathbb{R})$

We prove the well-posedness results of scattering data for the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation in $H^{s}(\mathbb{R})(s\geq\frac12)$. We show that the reciprocal of the transmission coefficient can be written as the sum of some iterative integrals, and its logarithm can be written as the sum of some connected iterative integrals. And we provide the asymptotic properties of the first few iterative integrals of the reciprocal of the transmission coefficient. Moreover, we provide some regularity properties of the reciprocal of the transmission coefficient related to scattering data in $H^{s}(\mathbb{R})$.

Formations and dynamics of two-dimensional spinning asymmetric quantum droplets controlled by a PT-symmetric potential

In this paper, vortex solitons are produced for a variety of 2D spinning quantum droplets (QDs) in a PT-symmetric potential, modeled by the amended Gross-Pitaevskii equation with Lee-Huang-Yang corrections. In particular, exact QD states are obtained under certain parameter constraints, providing a guide to finding the respective generic family. In a parameter region of the unbroken PT symmetry, different families of QDs originating from the linear modes are obtained in the form of multipolar and vortex droplets at low and high values of the norm, respectively, and their stability is investigated. In the spinning regime, QDs become asymmetric above a critical rotation frequency, most of them being stable. The effect of the PT -symmetric potential on the spinning and nonspinning QDs is explored by varying the strength of the gain-loss distribution. Generally, spinning QDs trapped in the PT -symmetric potential exhibit asymmetry due to the energy flow affected by the interplay of the gain-loss distribution and rotation. Finally, interactions between spinning or nonspinning QDs are explored, exhibiting elastic collisions under certain conditions.

Spontaneous symmetry breaking and ghost states supported by the fractional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with focusing saturable nonlinearity and PT-symmetric potential

We report a novel spontaneous symmetry breaking phenomenon and ghost states existed in the framework of the fractional nonlinear Schrödinger (FNLS) equation with focusing saturable nonlinearity and PT-symmetric potential. The continuous asymmetric soliton branch bifurcates from the fundamental symmetric one as the power exceeds some critical value. Intriguingly, the symmetry of fundamental solitons is broken into two branches of asymmetry solitons (alias ghost states) with complex conjugate propagation constants, which is solely in fractional media. Besides, the dipole (antisymmetry) and tripole solitons are also studied numerically. Moreover, we analyze the influences of fractional Lévy index and saturable nonlinear parameters on the symmetry breaking of solitons in detail. And the stability of fundamental soliton, asymmetric, dipole and tripole solitons are explored via the linear stability analysis and direct propagations. Moreover, we explore the elastic/semi-elastic collision phenomena between symmetric and asymmetric solitons. Meanwhile, we find the stable excitations from the fractional diffraction with saturation nonlinearity to integer-order diffraction with Kerr nonlinearity via the adiabatic excitations of parameters. These results will provide some theoretical basis for the study of spontaneous symmetry breaking phenomena and related physical experiments in the fractional media with PT-symmetric potentials.

New Integrable Multi-Lévy-Index and Mixed Fractional Nonlinear Soliton Hierarchies

In this letter, we present a simple and new idea to generate two types of novel integrable multi-Lévy-index and mix-Lévy-index (mixed) fractional nonlinear soliton hierarchies, containing multi-index and mixed fractional higher-order nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) hierarchy, fractional complex modified Korteweg-de Vries (cmKdV) hierarchy, and fractional mKdV hierarchy. Their explicit forms can be given using the completeness of squared eigenfunctions. Moreover, we present their anomalous dispersion relations via their linearizations, and fractional multi-soliton solutions via the inverse scattering transform with matrix Riemann-Hilbert problems. These obtained fractional multi-soliton solutions may be useful to understand the related super-dispersion transports of nonlinear waves in multi-index fractional nonlinear media.

Data-driven soliton mappings for integrable fractional nonlinear wave equations via deep learning with Fourier neural operator

In this paper, we firstly extend the Fourier neural operator (FNO) to discovery the soliton mapping between two function spaces, where one is the fractional-order index space $\{ε|ε\in (0, 1)\}$ in the fractional integrable nonlinear wave equations while another denotes the solitonic solution function space. To be specific, the fractional nonlinear Schrödinger (fNLS), fractional Korteweg-de Vries (fKdV), fractional modified Korteweg-de Vries (fmKdV) and fractional sine-Gordon (fsineG) equations proposed recently are studied in this paper. We present the train and evaluate progress by recording the train and test loss. To illustrate the accuracies, the data-driven solitons are also compared to the exact solutions. Moreover, we consider the influences of several critical factors (e.g., activation functions containing Relu$(x)$, Sigmoid$(x)$, Swish$(x)$ and $x\tanh(x)$, depths of fully connected layer) on the performance of the FNO algorithm. We also use a new activation function, namely, $x\tanh(x)$, which is not used in the field of deep learning. The results obtained in this paper may be useful to further understand the neural networks in the fractional integrable nonlinear wave systems and the mappings between two spaces.

Interactions of fractional N-solitons with anomalous dispersions for the integrable combined fractional higher-order mKdV hierarchy

In this paper, we investigate the anomalous dispersive relations, inverse scattering transform with a Riemann-Hilbert (RH) problem, and fractional multi-solitons of the integrable combined fractional higher-order mKdV (fhmKdV) hierarchy, including the fractional mKdV (fmKdV), fractional fifth-order mKdV (f5mKdV), fractional combined third-fifth-order mKdV (f35mKdV) equations, etc., which can be featured via completeness of squared scalar eigenfunctions of the ZS spectral problem. We construct a matrix RH problem to present three types of fractional N-solitons illustrating anomalous dispersions of the combined fhmKdV hierarchy for the reflectionless case. As some examples, we analyze the wave velocity of the fractional one-soliton such that we find that the fhmKdV equation predicts a power law relationship between the wave velocity and amplitude, and demonstrates the anomalous dispersion. Furthermore, we illustrate other interesting anomalous dispersive wave phenomena containing the elastic interactions of fractional bright and dark solitons, W-shaped soliton and dark soliton, as well as breather and dark soliton. These obtained fractional multi-solitons will be useful to understand the related nonlinear super-dispersive wave propagations in fractional nonlinear media.

Dynamics of fractional N-soliton solutions with anomalous dispersions of integrable fractional higher-order nonlinear Schrödinger equations

In this paper, we explore the anomalous dispersive relations, inverse scattering transform and fractional N-soliton solutions of the integrable fractional higher-order nonlinear Schrodinger (fHONLS) equations, containing the fractional Hirota (fHirota), fractional complex mKdV (fcmKdV), and fractional Lakshmanan-Porsezian-Daniel (fLPD) equations, etc. The inverse scattering problem can be solved exactly by means of the matrix Riemann-Hilbert problem with simple poles. As a consequence, an explicit formula is found for the fractional N-soliton solutions of the fHONLS equations in the reflectionless case. In particular, we analyze the fractional one-, two- and three-soliton solutions with anomalous dispersions of fHirota and fcmKdV equations. The wave, group, and phase velocities of these envelope fractional 1-soliton solutions are related to the power laws of their amplitudes. These obtained fractional N-soliton solutions may be useful to explain the related super-dispersion transports of nonlinear waves in fractional nonlinear media.

Data-driven discoveries of Bäcklund transforms and soliton evolution equations via deep neural network learning schemes

We introduce a deep neural network learning scheme to learn the Bäcklund transforms (BTs) of soliton evolution equations and an enhanced deep learning scheme for data-driven soliton equation discovery based on the known BTs, respectively. The first scheme takes advantage of some solution (or soliton equation) information to study the data-driven BT of sine-Gordon equation, and complex and real Miura transforms between the defocusing (focusing) mKdV equation and KdV equation, as well as the data-driven mKdV equation discovery via the Miura transforms. The second deep learning scheme uses the explicit/implicit BTs generating the higher-order solitons to train the data-driven discovery of mKdV and sine-Gordon equations, in which the high-order solution informations are more powerful for the enhanced leaning soliton equations with higher accurates.

Deep neural networks for solving forward and inverse problems of (2+1)-dimensional nonlinear wave equations with rational solitons

In this paper, we investigate the forward problems on the data-driven rational solitons for the (2+1)-dimensional KP-I equation and spin-nonlinear Schrödinger (spin-NLS) equation via the deep neural networks leaning. Moreover, the inverse problems of the (2+1)-dimensional KP-I equation and spin-NLS equation are studied via deep learning. The main idea of the data-driven forward and inverse problems is to use the deep neural networks with the activation function to approximate the solutions of the considered (2+1)-dimensional nonlinear wave equations by optimizing the chosen loss functions related to the considered nonlinear wave equations.

The Cauchy problem and multi-peakons for the mCH-Novikov-CH equation with quadratic and cubic nonlinearities

This paper investigates the Cauchy problem of a generalized Camassa-Holm equation with quadratic and cubic nonlinearities (alias the mCH-Novikov-CH equation), which is a generalization of some special equations such as the Camassa-Holm (CH) equation, the modified CH (mCH) equation ((alias the Fokas-Olver-Rosenau-Qiao equation), the Novikov equation, the CH-mCH equation, the mCH-Novikov equation, and the CH-Novikov equation. We first show the local well-posedness for the strong solutions of the mCH-Novikov-CH equation in Besov spaces by means of the Littlewood-Paley theory and the transport equations theory. Then, the Holder continuity of the data-to-solution map to this equation are exhibited in some Sobolev spaces. After providing the blow-up criterion and the precise blow-up quantity in light of the Moser-type estimate in the Sobolev spaces, we then trace a portion and the whole of the precise blow-up quantity, respectively, along the characteristics associated with this equation, and obtain two kinds of sufficient conditions on the gradient of the initial data to guarantee the occurance of the wave-breaking phenomenon. Finally, the non-periodic and periodic peakon and multi-peakon solutions for this equation are also explored.

Orbital stability of peakon solutions for a generalized higher-order Camassa-Holm equation

In this paper, we investigate the orbital stability issue of a generalized higher-order Camassa-Holm (HOCH) equation, which is an higher-order extension of the quadratic CH equation. Firstly, we show that the HOCH equation admits a global weak peakon solution by paring it with ssome smooth test function. Secondly, with the help of two conserved quantities and the non-sgn-changing condition, we prove the orbital stability of this peakon solution in the energy space in the sense that its shape remains approximately the same for all times. Our results enrich the research of the orbital stability for the CH-type equations and are useful to better understand the impact of higher-order nonlinearities on the dispersion dynamics.

The Cauchy problem and wave-breaking phenomenon for a generalized sine-type FORQ/mCH equation

In this paper, we are concerned with the Cauchy problem and wave-breaking phenomenon for a sine-type modified Camassa-Holm (alias sine-FORQ/mCH) equation. Employing the transport equations theory and the Littlewood-Paley theory, we first establish the local well-posedness for the strong solutions of the sine-FORQ/mCH equation in Besov spaces. In light of the Moser-type estimates, we are able to derive the blow-up criterion and the precise blow-up quantity of this equation in Sobolev spaces. We then give a sufficient condition with respect to the initial data to ensure the occurance of the wave-breaking phenomenon by trace the precise blow-up quantity along the characteristics associated with this equation.
