Active Learning for Channel Knowledge Map Construction via Bayesian Inference Diffusion Models

Channel knowledge maps (CKMs) are regarded as key enablers of environment-aware communications in future wireless networks, as they provide location-specific channel information by establishing an explicit connection between wireless devices and the physical propagation environment. As a representative CKM, the channel gain map (CGM) characterizes the spatial distributions of large-scale fading to support wireless environment awareness and network optimization. Existing CGM construction methods generally lack a well-defined sampling-point acquisition strategy, which may result in a limited number of sampling points being allocated to spatially redundant or highly predictable regions, thereby degrading CGM reconstruction performance in complex propagation environments. In this paper, we propose an active-learning-based diffusion framework for efficient CGM construction. By combining Bayesian inference with the diffusion model, the proposed method estimates epistemic uncertainty without retraining the model. Two uncertainty quantification algorithms are further developed along the reverse diffusion process to generate element-wise epistemic uncertainty maps. Furthermore, an uncertainty-aware sampling strategy is designed to determine new observation locations by jointly considering epistemic uncertainty and spatial distribution uniformity. Experimental results on both static and dynamic CGM datasets demonstrate that the proposed method achieves better reconstruction performance than baseline methods. These results indicate that the proposed method can effectively improve the utilization efficiency of limited sampling points and enhance the accuracy of CGM construction in complex wireless propagation environments.

Channel Knowledge Map Construction via Physics-Inspired Diffusion Model Without Prior Observations

The ability to construct channel knowledge map (CKM) with high precision is essential for environment awareness in 6G wireless systems. However, most existing CKM construction methods formulate the task as an image super-resolution or generation problem, thereby employing models originally developed for computer vision. As a result, the generated CKMs often fail to capture the underlying physical characteristics of wireless propagation. In this paper, considering that acquiring channel observations incurs non-negligible time and cost, we focus on constructing CKM for large-scale fading scenarios without relying on prior observations, and we design three physics-based constraints to characterize the spatial distribution patterns of large-scale fading. By integrating these physical constraints with state-of-the-art diffusion model that possesses superior generative capability, a physics-inspired diffusion model for CKM construction is proposed. Following this motivation, we derive the loss function of the diffusion model augmented with physics-based constraint terms and further design the training and generation framework for the proposed physics-inspired CKM generation diffusion model. Extensive experiments show that our approach outperforms all existing methods in terms of construction accuracy. Moreover, the proposed model provides a unified and effective framework with strong potential for generating diverse, accurate, and physically consistent CKM.

Distributed Noncoherent Joint Transmission Based on Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning for Dense Small Cell MISO Systems

We consider a dense small cell (DSC) network where multi-antenna small cell base stations (SBSs) transmit data to single-antenna users over a shared frequency band. To enhance capacity, a state-of-the-art technique known as noncoherent joint transmission (JT) is applied, enabling users to receive data from multiple coordinated SBSs. However, the sum rate maximization problem with noncoherent JT is inherently nonconvex and NP-hard. While existing optimization-based noncoherent JT algorithms can provide near-optimal performance, they require global channel state information (CSI) and multiple iterations, which makes them difficult to be implemeted in DSC networks. To overcome these challenges, we first prove that the optimal beamforming structure is the same for both the power minimization problem and the sum rate maximization problem, and then mathematically derive the optimal beamforming structure for both problems by solving the power minimization problem. The optimal beamforming structure can effectively reduces the variable dimensions.By exploiting the optimal beamforming structure, we propose a deep deterministic policy gradient-based distributed noncoherent JT scheme to maximize the system sum rate.In the proposed scheme, each SBS utilizes global information for training and uses local CSI to determine beamforming vectors. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme achieves comparable performance with considerably lower computational complexity and information overhead compared to centralized iterative optimization-based techniques, making it more attractive for practical deployment.

Interference Alignment with Power Splitting Relays in Multi-User Multi-Relay Networks

In this paper, we study a multi-user multi-relay interference-channel network, where energy-constrained relays harvest energy from sources' radio frequency (RF) signals and use the harvested energy to forward the information to destinations. We adopt the interference alignment (IA) technique to address the issue of interference, and propose a novel transmission scheme with the IA at sources and the power splitting (PS) at relays. A distributed and iterative algorithm to obtain the optimal PS ratios is further proposed, aiming at maximizing the sum rate of the network. The analysis is then validated by simulation results. Our results show that the proposed scheme with the optimal design significantly improves the performance of the network.

Distributed Relay Selection Protocols for Simultaneous Wireless Information and Power Transfer

Harvesting energy from the radio-frequency (RF) signal is an exciting solution to replenish energy in energy-constrained wireless networks. In this paper, an amplify-and-forward (AF) based wireless relay network is considered, where the relay nodes need to harvest energy from the source's RF signal to forward information to the destination. To improve the performance of information transmission, we propose two distributed relay selection protocols, Maximum Harvested Energy (MHE) protocol and Maximum Signal-to-Noise Ratio (MSNR) protocol. Then, we derive the outage probabilities of the system with our proposed relay selection protocols and prove that the proposed selection protocols indeed can improve the system performances and the MSNR protocol outperforms the MHE protocol. Simulation results verify the analysis and theorems. In addition, the effects of key system parameters are also investigated via simulations.
