Optimized QCD two-loop correction to exclusive double $J/\psi$ production at B factories

We report the calculation of the process $e^+ e^- \to J/\psi J/\psi$ up to next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) at a center-of-mass (CM) energy of $\sqrt{s}=10.58$ GeV. We employ an improved NRQCD factorization approach, decomposing the amplitude into photon-fragmentation and non-fragmentation components. The fragmentation contribution is determined using the measured $J/\psi$ decay constant, while the interference and non-fragmentation parts are computed at NNLO in $\alpha_s$ and lowest order in velocity. In this optimized scheme, both ${\cal O}(\alpha_s)$ and ${\cal O}(\alpha^2_s)$ corrections in the interference part are positive and exhibit good convergence. The non-fragmentation part is numerically insignificant. Our results indicate that with the projected 50 ${\rm ab}^{-1}$ dataset at \texttt{Belle 2}, the prospects for observing exclusive double $J/\psi$ production are very promising.

Strange-antistrange and charm-anticharm asymmetries of pion in 't Hooft model

As a sequel of our preceding work [S. Hu et al., Phys. Rev. D 108 (2023) 9, 094040], we investigate the strange-antistrange and charm-anticharm asymmetries in the parton distribution functions (PDFs) of a light flavored meson, exemplified by the first excited pion in the 't Hooft model, {\it viz.}, QCD in two spacetime dimensions with infinite number of colors. Counted as an ${\cal O}(1/N_c)$ effect, the intrinsic strange content necessarily originates from the higher Fock component of the light flavored meson, which entails infinite towers of $K$ and $\overline{K}$ mesons. Numerical studies reveal that, with $m_u/m_d=1/2$, the $s$-$\bar{s}$ and $c$-$\bar{c}$ asymmetries of the first excited $\pi^-$ can reach per cents level. While the $s$-$\bar{s}$ asymmetry predicted from the meson cloud model (MCM) grossly align with the rigorous approach, there exists severe discrepancy between two approaches on the $c$-$\bar{c}$ asymmetry.

Solving bound-state equations in $\text{QCD}_2$ with bosonic and fermionic quarks

We investigate the bound-state equations (BSEs) in two-dimensional QCD in the $N_c\to \infty$ limit, viewed from both the infinite momentum frame (IMF) and the finite momentum frame (FMF). The BSE of a meson in the original 't Hooft model, viz., spinor $\text{QCD}_2$ containing only fermionc quarks, has been extensively studied in literature. In this work, we focus on the BSEs pertaining to two types of "exotic" hadrons, a "tetraquark" which is composed of a bosonic quark and bosonic antiquark, and a "baryon" which is composed of a bosonic antiquark and a fermionic quark. Utilizing the Hamiltonian approach, we derive the corresponding BSEs for both types of "exotic" hadrons, from the perspectives of the light-front and equal-time quantization, and confirm the known results. The recently available BSEs for "tetraquark" in FMF has also been recovered with the aid of the diagrammatic approach. For the first time we also present the BSEs of a "baryon" in FMF in the extended 't Hooft model. By solving various BSEs numerically, we obtain the mass spectra pertaining to "tetraquark" and "baryon" and the corresponding bound-state wave functions of the lowest-lying states. It is numerically demonstrated that, when a "tetraquark" or "baryon" is continuously boosted, the forward-moving component of the bound-state wave function approaches the corresponding light-cone wave function, while the backward-moving component fades away.

Two-loop QCD corrections to Higgs radiative decay to vector quarkonium

The exclusive production of $J/\psi$ through Higgs boson radiative decay may serve a clean channel to extracting the charm quark Yukawa coupling. We calculate the two-loop QCD corrections to $H\rightarrow J/\psi(\Upsilon)+\gamma$ using an optimized nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) approach. We compute the ${\cal O}(\alpha_s^2)$ correction in the direct channel, where Higgs directly couples to $c\bar{c}$, as well as the ${\cal O}(\alpha_s)$ correction in the indirect channel, {\it viz.}, $H\to\gamma^*\gamma$ followed by the virtual photon fragmentation into $J/\psi$. Incorporating the destructive interference between the direct and indirect channels, we present to date the most accurate predictions for Higgs boson radiative decay into vector quarkonium, $\mathcal{B}(H\rightarrow J/\psi+\gamma) = 3.27_{-0.07}^{+0.30}{}^{+0.06}_{-0.06}{}_{-0.13}^{+0.13}\times 10^{-6}$, and $\mathcal{B}(H\rightarrow \Upsilon+\gamma)= 1.34_{-0.31}^{+0.75}{}^{+0.25}_{-0.20}{}^{+0.05}_{-0.05}\times 10^{-8}$.

Light quark mass dependence of nucleon mass to two-loop order

We investigate the nucleon self energy through the sixth chiral order in the covariant $SU(2)$ chiral perturbation theory ($\chi$PT) in the single baryon sector. The validity of the extended on-mass-shell (EOMS) renormalization scheme is explicitly verified to two-loop order, manifested by the miraculous cancellation of all nonlocal divergences and power-counting-breaking (PCB) terms that are nonanalytic in pion mass. Using the $\sigma_{\pi N}$ term determined from the latest lattice simulation to constrain some unknown higher-order low energy constants (LECs), we predict the nucleon mass in the chiral limit to be $856.6\pm 1.7$ MeV. It is found that the EOMS scheme exhibits quite satisfactory convergence behavior through ${\cal O}(q^6)$ around physical point. We also predict the pion mass dependence of the nucleon mass to the accuracy of ${\cal O}(q^6)$, which is in satisfactory agreement with the recent lattice results over a wide range of pion mass.

Hard-scattering approach to strongly hindered electric dipole transitions between heavy quarkonia

The conventional wisdom in dealing with electromagnetic transition between heavy quarkonia is the multipole expansion, when the emitted photon has a typical energy of order quarkonium binding energy. Nevertheless, in the case when the energy carried by the photon is of order typical heavy quark momentum, the multipole expansion doctrine is expected to break down. In this work, we apply the "hard-scattering" approach originally developed to tackle the strongly hindered magnetic dipole ($M1$) transition [Y.~Jia {\it et al.}, Phys. \ Rev. \ D. 82, 014008 (2010)] to the strongly hindered electric dipole ($E1$) transition between heavy quarkonia. We derive the factorization formula for the strongly hindered $E1$ transition rates at the lowest order in velocity and $\alpha_s$ in the context of the non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD), and conduct a detailed numerical comparison with the standard predictions for various bottomonia and charmonia $E1$ transition processes.

Light-cone and quasi generalized parton distributions in the 't Hooft model

We present a comprehensive study of the light-cone generalized parton distribution (GPD) and quasi-GPD of a flavor-neutral meson in the 't Hooft model, {\it i.e.}, two-dimensional QCD (\QCDtw) in the $N_c\to\infty$ limit. With the aid of the Hamiltonian approach, we construct the light-cone GPD in terms of the meson's light-cone wave function in the framework of light-front quantization, and express the quasi-GPD in terms of the meson's Bars-Green wave functions and the chiral angle in the framework of equal-time quantization. We show that, both analytically and numerically, the quasi-GPD does approach the light-cone GPD when the meson is boosted to the infinite momentum frame, which justifies the tenet underlying the large momentum effective theory for the off-forward parton distribution. Upon taking the forward limit, the light-cone and quasi-GPDs reduce to the light-cone and quasi-PDFs. As a bonus, we take this chance to correct the incomplete expression of the quasi-PDFs in the 't Hooft model reported in our preceding work [Y. Jia et al. Phys. Rev. D 98, 054011 (2018)].

Heavy quark fragmentation function in 't Hooft Model

We carry out a comprehensive study of the quark-to-meson fragmentation function in the 't Hooft model, i.e., the two-dimensional Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) in $N_c\to \infty$ limit, following the operator definition pioneered by Collins and Soper. We apply the Hamiltonian approach as well as the diagrammatic approach to construct the functional form of the quark-to-meson fragmentation function in terms of the meson's light-cone wave function. For the sake of comparison, we also investigate the heavy quark fragmentation into quarkonium in two-dimensional QCD within the framework of the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization, at the lowest order in quark velocity. In the heavy quark limit, the quark fragmentation function obtained from the {\it ab initio} method agrees well, both analytically and numerically, with that obtained from the NRQCD approach. This agreement might be regarded as a nontrivial justification for the validity of both field-theoretical approaches to compute the heavy quark fragmentation function.

Optimized ${\cal O}(\alpha_s^2)$ correction to exclusive double $J/\psi$ production at $B$ factories

The failure of observing the $e^+ e^- \to J/\psi+J/\psi$ events at $B$ factories to date is often attributed to the significant negative order-$\alpha_s$ correction. In this work we compute the ${\cal O}(\alpha^2_s)$ correction to this process for the first time. The magnitude of the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) perturbative correction is substantially negative so that the standard NRQCD prediction would suffer from an unphysical, negative cross section. This dilemma may be traced in the fact that the bulk contribution of the fixed-order radiative corrections stems from the perturbative corrections to the $J/\psi$ decay constant. We thus implement an improved NRQCD factorization framework, by decomposing the amplitude into the photon-fragmentation piece and the non-fragmentation piece. With the measured $J/\psi$ decay constant as input, which amounts to resumming a specific class of radiative and relativistic corrections to all orders, the fragmentation-induced production rate can be predicted accurately and serves a benchmark prediction. The non-fragmentation type of the amplitude is then computed through NNLO in $\alpha_s$ and at lowest order in velocity. Both the ${\cal O}(\alpha_s)$ and ${\cal O}(\alpha^2_s)$ corrections in the interference term become positive and exhibit a decent convergence behavior. Our finest prediction is $\sigma(e^+ e^- \to J/\psi+J/\psi)= 2.13^{+0.30}_{-0.06}$ fb at $\sqrt{s}=10.58$ GeV. With the projected integrated luminosity of 50 ${\rm ab}^{-1}$, the prospect to observe this exclusive process at \texttt{Belle} 2 experiment appears to be bright.

Parton distribution of intrinsic charm in two dimensional QCD

We present a detailed investigation on the intrinsic charm content in a light meson within the 't Hooft model, namely, the two-dimensional QCD in large $N_c$ limit. The intrinsic charm parton distribution function (PDF) of a light meson, which first arises at order $N_c^{-1}$, is explicitly expressed in terms of the 't Hooft wave functions of the light meson and an infinite towers of excited charmed mesons. We also derive the functional forms from the two-dimensional counterparts of the meson cloud model (MCM) and Brodsky-Hoyer-Peterson-Sakai (BHPS) model. We then make a quantitative comparison between our rigorous results and model predictions. We also study how the profile of the intrinsic charm PDF varies with charm quark mass. The average momentum fraction carried by the charm quark inside a light meson is found to decrease faster than $m_c^{-4}$ with increasing charm quark mass.

Three-loop QCD corrections to the decay constant of $B_c$

Within the framework of nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization, we compute the three-loop QCD corrections to the decay constant of $B_c$. We reconstruct the analytical expressions for the three-loop renormalization constant and the corresponding anomalous dimension affiliated with the pseudoscalar current composed of two different heavy flavors in NRQCD, which are functions of the ratio between the charm and bottom quark masses. Meanwhile, the short-distance coefficient is obtained with very high numerical accuracy. The three-loop QCD correction turns out to be overwhelmingly large. The phenomenological implication of this new piece of radiative corrections for the $B_c$ leptonic decay is also addressed.

Complete three-loop QCD corrections to leptonic width of vector quarkonium

Within the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization framework, we compute the order-$\alpha_s^3$ perturbative corrections to the leptonic decay of the $\Upsilon$ and $J/\psi$ with high numerical accuracy, at the lowest order in velocity expansion. We confirm the existing three-loop results in literature. Furthermore, we explicitly consider the complex-valued light-by-light (singlet) contributions. We for the first time also consider the finite charm quark mass effect for $\Upsilon$ leptonic decay, and obtain a new piece of 3-loop contribution to the anomalous dimension related to the composite NRQCD bilinear of vector current that arises from the nonzero charm quark mass. Based on the complete three-loop NRQCD short-distance coefficients, we also present a comprehensive phenomenological analysis for $\Upsilon(J/\psi)$ leptonic width.

Photoproduction of C-even quarkonia at EIC and EicC

The $\eta_c$ photoproduction in $ep$ collision has long been proposed as an ideal process to probe the existence of odderon. In the current work, we systematically investigate the photoproduction of various $C$-even heavy quarkonia (exemplified by $\eta_{c(b)}$, and $\chi_{c(b)J}$ with $J=0,1,2$) via one-photon exchange channel, at the lowest order in $\alpha_s$ and heavy quark velocity in the context of NRQCD factorization. We find that the photoproduction rates of the $C$-even quarkonia through this mechanism are comparable in magnitude with that through the odderon-initiated mechanism, even in the Regge limit ($s\gg -t$), though the latter types of predictions suffers from considerable theoretical uncertainties. The future measurements of these types of quarkonium photoproduction processes in \texttt{EIC} and \texttt{EicC} are crucial to ascertain which mechanism plays the dominant role.

${\mathcal O}(\alpha_s^2)$ corrections to $J/\psi+\chi_{c0,1,2}$ production at $B$ factories

We compute the ${\mathcal O}(\alpha_s^2)$ corrections to the exclusive channels $e^+e^-\to J/\psi+\chi_{cJ}$ ($J=0,1,2$) at $\sqrt{s}=10.58$ GeV within the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization framework. The validity of NRQCD factorization at ${\cal O}(\alpha_s^2)$ has been confirmed for these double-charmonium exclusive production processes. We analyze the impact of the $\mathcal{O}(\alpha_s^2)$ corrections on the polarized and unpolarized cross sections, as well as the $J/\psi$ angular distributions, which largely reduce the renormalization scale dependence but increase the ${\mathcal O}(\alpha_s)$ NRQCD predictions to some extent for $\chi_{c0,1}$. With high numerical accuracy, our predictions for $\sigma(J/\psi+\chi_{c1,2})$ through ${\mathcal O}(\alpha_s^2)$ are compatible with the upper limit of the \texttt{Belle} measurement. Although the theoretical prediction for $\sigma(J/\psi+\chi_{c0})$ is consistent with both \texttt{Belle} and \texttt{BaBar} measurements within uncertainties, there still exists serious tension between the predicted and the measured profiles for the $J/\psi$ angular distribution. Regarding the bright observation prospect of the $e^+e^-\to J/\psi+\chi_{c1,2}$ channels in \texttt{Belle 2} experiment, it is interesting to compare the future measurements with our NRQCD predictions. The more accurate measurement of $e^+e^-\to J/\psi+\chi_{0}$ at \texttt{Belle 2} will also help to clarify the long-standing puzzle of $J/\psi$ angular distribution.

Four-lepton decays of neutral vector mesons

We investigate the rare electromagnetic decays of neutral vector mesons (exemplified by $J/\psi$, $\Upsilon$, $\rho^0$, $\omega,\phi$, \ldots) into four charged leptons ($2(e^+e^-)$, $2(\mu^+\mu^-)$, $2(\tau^+\tau^-)$, $e^+e^-\mu^+\mu^-$, $e^+e^-\tau^+\tau^-$, \ldots) at lowest order in QED. In contrast to the case of vector meson decay into a single pair of leptons, the lepton mass must be retained in these four-lepton decay channels to cutoff the mass singularity. Owing to more pronounced collinear enhancement, the branching fractions of vector mesons decays into $ 2(e^+e^-)$ are considerably greater than those for decays into $2(\mu^+\mu^-)$. The decay channels $J/\psi(\Upsilon)\to 2(e^+e^-), e^+e^-\mu^+\mu^-$ are predicted to have branching fractions of order $10^{-5}$, which appear to have bright observation prospect at {\tt BESIII}, {\tt Belle 2} and {\tt LHC} experiments.

Next-to-next-to-leading-order QCD corrections to $e^+e^-\to J/\psi+\eta_c$ at $B$ factories

Within the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization framework, we compute the long-awaited ${\mathcal O}(\alpha_s^2)$ correction for the exclusive double charmonium production process at $B$ factories, {\it i.e.}, $e^+e^-\to J/\psi+\eta_c$ at $\sqrt{s}=10.58$ GeV. For the first time, we confirm that NRQCD factorization does hold at next-to-next-to-leading-order (NNLO) for exclusive double charmonium production. It is found that including the NNLO QCD correction considerably reduces the renormalization scale dependence, and also implies the reasonable perturbative convergence behavior for this process. Our state-of-the-art prediction is consistent with the BaBar measurement within errors.
