Optimized nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computation based on Förster resonance in Rydberg atoms

In this paper, we propose a scheme for implementing the nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computation (NHQC+) of two Rydberg atoms by using invariant-based reverse engineering (IBRE). The scheme is based on Förster resonance induced by strong dipole-dipole interaction between two Rydberg atoms, which provides a selective coupling mechanism to simply the dynamics of system. Moreover, for improving the fidelity of the scheme, the optimal control method is introduced to enhance the gate robustness against systematic errors. Numerical simulations show the scheme is robust against the random noise in control fields, the deviation of dipole-dipole interaction, the Förster defect, and the spontaneous emission of atoms. Therefore, the scheme may provide some useful perspectives for the realization of quantum computation with Rydberg atoms.

Robust single-qubit gates by composite pulses in three-level systems

Composite pulses are an efficient tool for robust quantum control. In this work, we derive the form of the composite pulse sequence to implement robust single-qubit gates in a three-level system, where two low-energy levels act as a qubit. The composite pulses can efficiently cancel the systematic errors up to a certain order. We find that the three-pulse sequence cannot completely eliminate the first order of systematic errors, but still availably makes the fidelity resistant to variations in a specific direction. When employing more pulses in the sequence ($N>3$), the fidelity can be insensitive to the variations in all directions and the robustness region becomes much wider. Finally we demonstrate the applications of composite pulses in quantum information processing, e.g., robust quantum information transfer between two qubits.

Robust generation of logical qubit singlet states with reverse engineering and optimal control with spin qubits

A protocol is proposed to generate singlet states of three logical qubits constructed by pairs of spins. Single and multiple operations of logical qubits are studied for the construction of an effective Hamiltonian, with which robust control fields are derived with invariant-based reverse engineering and optimal control. Moreover, systematic errors are further compensated by periodic modulation for better robustness. Furthermore, resistance to decoherence of the protocol is also shown with numerical simulations. Therefore, the protocol may provide useful perspectives for generations of logical qubit entanglement in spin systems.

Heralded atomic nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computation with Rydberg blockade

We propose a protocol to realize atomic nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computation (NHQC) with two computational atoms and an auxiliary atom. Dynamics of the system is analyzed in the regime of Rydberg blockade, and robust laser pulses are designed via reverse engineering, so that quantum gates can be easily realized with high fidelities. In addition, we also study the evolution suffering from dissipation with a master equation. The result indicates that decays of atoms can be heralded by measuring the state of the auxiliary atom, and nearly perfect unitary evolution can be obtained if the auxiliary atom remains in its Rydberg state. Therefore, the protocol may be helpful to realize NHQC in dissipative environment.

Effective discrimination of chiral molecules in a cavity

We present a scheme to realize precise discrimination of chiral molecules in a cavity. Assisted by additional laser pulses, cavity fields can evolve to different coherence states with contrary-sign displacements according to the handedness of molecules. Consequently, the handedness of molecules can be read out with homodyne measurement on the cavity, and the successful probability is nearly unity without very strong cavity fields. Numerical results show that the scheme is insensitive to errors, noise and decoherence. Therefore, the scheme may provide helpful perspectives for accurate discrimination of chiral molecules.

Seamless maps of major elements of the Moon: Results from high-resolution geostationary satellite

Major elements such as Fe, Ti, Mg, Al, Ca, and Si play very important roles in understanding the origin and evolution of the Moon. Previous maps of these major elements derived from orbital data are based on mosaic images or low-resolution Gamma ray data. The hue variations and gaps among orbital boundaries in the mosaic images are not conducive to geological studies. This paper aims to produce seamless and homogenous distribution maps of major elements using the single-exposure image of the whole lunar disk obtained by China's high-resolution geostationary satellite, Gaofen-4, with a spatial resolution of ~500 m. The elemental contents of soil samples returned by Apollo and Luna missions were used as ground truth, and were correlated with the reflectance of the sampling sites extracted from Gaofen-4 data. The final distribution maps of these major oxides are generated with the statistical regression model. With these products the average contents and proportions of the major elements for maria and highlands were estimated and compared. The results showed that SiO2 and TiO2 have the highest and lowest fractions in mare and highland areas, respectively. Besides, the relative concentrations of these elements could serve as indicators of geologic processes, e.g., the obviously asymmetric distributions of Al2O3, CaO, and SiO2 around Tycho crater may suggest that Tycho crater was formed by an oblique impact from the southwest direction.

Pulse reverse-engineering for strong field-matter interaction

We propose a scheme to control the evolution of a two-level quantum system in the strong coupling regime based on the idea of reverse-engineering. A coherent control field is designed to drive both closed and open two-level quantum systems along user predefined evolution trajectory without utilizing the rotating-wave approximation (RWA). As concrete examples, we show that complete population inversion, an equally weighted coherent superposition, and even oscillationlike dynamics can be achieved. As there are no limitations on the coupling strength between the control field and matter, the scheme is attractive for applications such as accelerating desired system dynamics and fast quantum information processing.

Shortcut Scheme for One-Step Implementation of a Three-Qubit Nonadiabatic Holonomic Gate

Nonadiabatic holonomic quantum computation has attracted increasing interest because of its robustness. In this paper, based on the shortcuts to adiabaticity (STA), we propose a scheme to construct a three-qubit nonadiabatic holonomic gate in a cavity quantum electrodynamics system. In the scheme, the three-qubit holonomic gate is implemented in a single step. Besides, numerical simulations show that the constructed holonomic quantum gate holds the characteristics of high-fidelity, decoherence-resistance and error-immunity.

Quantum state engineering by periodical two-step modulation in atomic system

By periodical two-step modulation, we demonstrate that the dynamics of multilevel system can still evolve even in multiple large detunings regime, and provide the effective Hamiltonian (of interest) for this system. We then illustrate this periodical modulation in quantum state engineering, including achieving direct transition from the ground state to the Rydberg state or the desired superposition of two Rydberg states without satisfying two-photon resonance condition, switching between Rydberg blockade regime and Rydberg antiblockade regime, stimulating distinct atomic transitions by the same laser field, and implementing selective transitions in the same multilevel system. Particularly, it is robust against perturbation of control parameters. Another advantage is that the waveform of laser field has simple square-wave form which is readily implemented in experiments. Thus, it offers us a novel method of quantum state engineering in quantum information processing.

Precise quantum control via unsharp measurements and feedback operations

In this paper, we propose a scheme to eliminate the influence of noises on system dynamics, by means of a sequential unsharp measurements and unitary feedback operations. The unsharp measurements are carried out periodically during system evolution, while the feedback operations are well designed based on the eigenstates of the density matrices of the exact (noiseless) dynamical states and its corresponding post-measurement states. For illustrative examples, we show that the dynamical trajectory errors caused by both static and non-static noises are successfully eliminated in typical two-level and multi-level systems, i.e., the high-fidelity quantum dynamics can be maintained. Furthermore, we discuss the influence of noise strength and measurement strength on the degree of precise quantum control. Crucially, the measurement-feedback scheme is quite universal in that it can be applied to precise quantum control for any dimension systems. Thus, it naturally finds extensive applications in quantum information processing.

Accelerated and noise-resistant generation of a high-fidelity steady-state entanglement with Rydberg atoms

Based on Lyapunov control, a scheme is proposed to accelerate the dissipation dynamics for the generation of high-fidelity entanglement between two Rydberg atoms in the context of cavity quantum electrodynamics (QED). We first use the quantum Zeno dynamics and Rydberg antiblockade to find a unique steady state (two-atom singlet state) for the system. Then, applying additional coherent control (ACC) fields to improve the evolution speed of the dissipative system. The ACC fields are designed based on the target state and they vanish gradually along with increasing of the fidelity thus the system is guaranteed to be finally stable. Besides, the current accelerated scheme is checked to be robust against systematic and amplitude-noise errors.

Invariant-based inverse engineering for fluctuation transfer between membranes in an optomechanical cavity system

In this paper, by invariant-based inverse engineering, we design classical driving fields to transfer quantum fluctuations between two suspended membranes in an optomechanical cavity system. The transfer can be quickly attained through a non-adiabatic evolution path determined by a so-called dynamical invariant. Such an evolution path allows one to optimize the occupancies of the unstable "intermediate" states thus the influence of cavity decays can be suppressed. Numerical simulation demonstrates that a perfect fluctuation transfer between two membranes can be rapidly achieved in one step, and the transfer is robust to both the amplitude noises and cavity decays.

Accelerating population transfer in a transmon qutrit via Shortcuts to adiabaticity

In this paper, a method to accelerate population transfer by designing nonadiabatic evolution paths is proposed. We apply the method to realize robust and accelerated population transfer with a transmon qutrit. By numerical simulation, we show that this method allows a robust population transfer between the ground states in a $Λ$ system. Moreover, the total pulse area for the population transfer is low as 1.9$π$ that verifies the evolution is accelerated without increasing the pulse intensity. Therefore, the method is easily implementable based on the modern pulse shaper technology and it provides selectable schemes with interesting applications in quantum information processing.

Quantum state transfer in spin chains via shortcuts to adiabaticity

Based on shortcuts to adiabaticity and quantum Zeno dynamics, we present a protocol to implement quantum state transfer (QST) in a quantum spin-1/2 chain. In the protocol, the complex Hamiltonian of an $N$-site system is simplified, and a simple effective Hamiltonian is present. It is shown that only the control of the coupling strengths between the boundary spins and the bulk spins are required for QST. Numerical simulations demonstrate that the protocol possesses high efficiency and is robust against the decay and the fluctuations of the control fields. The protocol might provide an alternative choice for transferring quantum states via spin chain systems.

Coherent control in quantum open systems: An approach for accelerating dissipation-based quantum state generation

In this paper, we propose an approach to accelerate the dissipation dynamics for quantum state generation with Lyapunov control. The strategy is to add target-state-related coherent control fields into the dissipation process to intuitively improve the evolution speed. By applying the current approach, without losing the advantages of dissipation dynamics, the target stationary states can be generated in a much shorter time as compared to that via traditional dissipation dynamics. As a result, the current approach containing the advantages of coherent unitary dynamics and dissipation dynamics allows for significant improvement in quantum state generation.

Complete Bell-state analysis for superconducting-quantum-interference-device qubits with transitionless tracking algorithm

In this paper, we propose a protocol for complete Bell-state analysis for two superconducting-quantum-interference-device qubits. The Bell-state analysis could be completed by using a sequence of microwave pulses designed by the transition- less tracking algorithm, which is an useful method in the technique of shortcut to adiabaticity. After the whole process, the information for distinguishing four Bell states will be encoded on two auxiliary qubits, while the Bell states keep unchanged. One can read out the information by detecting the auxiliary qubits. Thus the Bell-state analysis is nondestructive. The numerical simulations show that the protocol possesses high success probability of distinguishing each Bell state with current experimental technology even when decoherence is taken into account. Thus, the protocol may have potential applications for the information readout in quantum communications and quantum computations in superconducting quantum networks.

Optimal shortcut approach based on an easily obtained intermediate Hamiltonian

We present a general approach to speed up the adiabatic process without adding the traditional counterdiabatic driving (CD) Hamiltonian. The strategy is to design an easy-to-get intermediate Hamiltonian to connect the original Hamiltonian and final transitionless Hamiltonian. With final transitionless Hamiltonian, the same target can be achieved as in the adiabatic process governed by the original Hamiltonian, but in a shorter time. We apply the present approach to a three-level system, and the result shows that the final transitionless Hamiltonian usually has the same structure as the original Hamiltonian but with different time-dependent coefficients, allowing speedup to be achieved in a much easier way compared to previous methods.

Accelerating adiabatic quantum transfer for three-level $Λ$-type structure systems via picture transformation

In this paper, we investigate the quantum transfer for the system with three-level $Λ$-type structure, and construct a shortcut to the adiabatic passage via picture transformation to speed up the evolution. We can design the pulses directly without any additional couplings. Moreover, by choosing suitable control parameters, the Rabi frequencies of pulses can be expressed by the linear superpositions of Gaussian functions, which could be easily realized in experiments. Compared with the previous works using the stimulated Raman adiabatic passage, the quantum transfer can be significantly accelerated with the present scheme.
