Transverse optical binding for a dual dipolar dielectric nanoparticle dimer

The physical origins of the transverse optical binding force and torque beyond the Rayleigh approximation have not been clearly expressed to date. Here, we present analytical expressions of the force and torque for a dual dipolar dielectric dimer illuminated by a plane wave propagating perpendicularly to the dimer axis. Using this analytical model, we explore the roles of the hybridized electric dipolar, magnetic dipolar, and electric-magnetic dipolar coupling interactions in the total force and torque on the particles. We find significant departures from the predictions of the Rayleigh approximation, particularly for high-refractive-index particles, where the force is dominated by the magnetic interaction. This results in an enhancement of the dimer stability by one to four orders of magnitude compared to the predictions of the Rayleigh approximation. For the case of torque, this is dominated by the coupling interaction and increases by an order of magnitude. Our results will help to guide future experimental work in optical binding of high-refractive-index dielectric particles.

The design of optical triode

Under the action of pump light, the conventional photonic crystal can be turned into function photonic crystal. In the paper, we have designed optical triode with one-dimensional function photonic crystal, and analyzed the effect of period number, medium thickness and refractive index, incident angle, the irradiation way and intensity of pump light on the optical triode magnification. We obtain some valuable results, which shall help to optimal design optical triode.

Compound structure one-dimensional photonic crystal

In this paper, we have proposed a new compound structure one-dimensional photonic crystal, which include series connection, parallel connection and positive and negative feedback compound structure photonic crystal. We have studied their transmission characteristics and obtained some new results, which should be help to design new type optical devices, such as optical amplifier, photonic crystal laser and so on.

Repeater-assisted Zeno effect in classical stochastic processes

As a classical state, for instance a digitized image, is transferred through a classical channel, it decays inevitably with the distance due to the surroundings' interferences. However, if there are enough number of repeaters, which can both check and recover the state's information continuously, the state's decay rate will be significantly suppressed, then a classical Zeno effect might occur. Such a physical process is purely classical and without any interferences of living beings, therefore, it manifests that the Zeno effect is no longer a patent of quantum mechanics, but does exist in classical stochastic processes.

Spin and mass imbalance in a mixture of two species of fermionic atoms in a 1D optical lattice

In this paper, we study the role of both "spin"(species) and mass imbalance in a mixture of two species of fermionic atoms with attractive interaction in an one-dimensional optical lattice. Using the bosonization approach, quantum phase transitions between a liquid phase and phase separated states are studied under various conditions of interaction, spin imbalance, and mass imbalance. We find that, in the phase-separated region, there exists two kinds of phase separation and a special quantum phase transition might exist between them in the large $U$ limit. On the other hand, the singlet superconducting correlation dominates in the liquid phase. The pairing behavior has been also demonstrated that there is oscillating behavior in real space. We find both the spin and mass imbalance are in favor of the formation of Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov state.

Realization of Dirac Point with Double Cones in Optics

The Dirac point with a double-cone structure for optical fields, an optical analogy Dirac fermions in graphene, can be realized in optically homogenous metamaterials. The condition for the realization of Dirac point in optical systems is the varying of refractive index from negative to zero and then to positive. Our analytical and numerical analysis have verified that, similar to electrons in graphene, the light field near the Dirac point possesses of the pseudodiffusive property, obeying the 1/L scaling law, where L is the propagating distance of light inside the media.
