Chiral Representation of the Nucleon Mass at Leading Two-loop Order

We calculate the nucleon mass in a manifestly relativistic baryon chiral perturbation theory up to the leading two-loop order. Through dimensional counting analysis, we perform the chiral expansion and verify the validity of the extended-on-mass-shell scheme at the two-loop level. As a result, we obtain the complete chiral representation of the nucleon mass up to $\mathcal{O}(p^5)$, which preserves the original analytic properties and satisfies the correct power counting. The obtained chiral result is well-suited for chiral extrapolation and provides an excellent description of lattice QCD data across a broad range of pion masses. We find that the $\mathcal{O}(p^5)$ contribution is small, approximately $10$ MeV, and varies only mildly with increasing pion mass, demonstrating good convergence of the nucleon mass up to pion masses of about 350 MeV at two-loop order.

Charmoniumlike Channels $1^{+}$ with Isospin $1$ from Lattice and Effective Field Theory

Many exotic charmoniumlike mesons have already been discovered experimentally, of which the $Z_c$ mesons with $I=1$ are prominent examples. We investigate $J^{PC}=1^{+\pm}$ states with flavor $\bar cc\bar qq$ ($q=u,d$) in $I=1$ using lattice QCD. This is the first study of these mesons employing more than one volume and involving frames with nonzero total momentum. We utilize two $N_f=2+1$ CLS ensembles with $m_π\simeq 280\,$MeV. The simulations are performed with unphysical light quark masses at a single lattice spacing of $a\simeq 0.086\,$fm and omit $ψ(2S)π$, $ψ(3770)π$ and three-particle decay channels, so our results provide only qualitative insights. Resulting eigenenergies are compatible or just slightly shifted down with respect to noninteracting energies, where the most significant shifts occur for certain $D\bar D^*$ states. Both channels $1^{+\pm}$ have a virtual pole slightly below the threshold if $D\bar D^*$ is assumed to be decoupled from other channels. In addition, we perform a coupled channel analysis of $J/ψπ$ and $D\bar D^*$ scattering with $J^{PC}=1^{+-}$ within an effective field theory framework. The $J/ψπ$ and $D\bar D^*$ line shapes from BESIII and finite-volume energies from several lattice QCD simulations, including this work, are fitted simultaneously. All fits yield two poles relatively close to the $D\bar D^*$ threshold and reasonably reproduce the experimental $Z_c$ peaks. They also reproduce lattice energies up to slightly above the $D\bar D^*$ threshold, while reproduction at even higher energies is better for fits that put more weight on the lattice data. Our findings suggest that the employed EFT can reasonably reconcile the peaks in the experimental line shapes and the lattice energies, although those lie close to noninteracting energies. We also study $J/ψπ$ scattering in s wave and place upper bounds on the phase shift.

CP violation studies at Super Tau-Charm Facility

Charge-parity ($C\!P$) violation in the tau-charm energy region is a promising area for sensitive tests of Standard Model (SM) predictions and searches for new, beyond the SM physics. A future Tau-Charm Facility that operates at center-of-mass energies between 2.0 and 7.0 GeV, with a peak luminosity of $0.5\times10^{35}$~cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$, would provide huge numbers of hadrons and tau ($τ$) leptons that are produced in low-background environments and with well understood kinematic properties. In this report, prospects for unique studies of $C\!P$ violation in the decay of charmed hadrons, and in the production and decay of hyperons and $τ$ leptons at a next-generation tau-charm facility are discussed. In addition, opportunities for improved tests of $CPT$ invariance test in $K^{0}-\bar{K}^{0}$ mixing are presented.

Masses and radiative decay widths of the $D_{s0}^*(2317)$ and $D_{s1}^{\prime}(2460)$ and their bottom analogs

We study the mass spectra and radiative decays of $D_{s0}^*(2317)$ and $D_{s1}^{\prime}(2460)$ in an unquenched framework. In addition to coupled channel effects between the $c\bar{s}$ cores and $D^{(*)}K$ channels, $D^{(*)}K$-$D^{(*)}K$ self interactions are also considered in this work and we succeed to reproduce their mass spectra. Furthermore, we study the radiative decays of the $D_{s0}^*(2317)$ and $D_{s1}^{\prime}(2460)$ by simultaneously including the compound structures of conventional $c\bar{s}$ cores and $D^{(*)}K$ components. We also calculate their bottom analogs with heavy quark symmetry. Our study offers useful insights into the important unquenched effects in the formation of $D_{s0}^*(2317)$, $D_{s1}^{\prime}(2460)$ and the bottom counterparts.

In-depth Study of Spin- and Momentum-Dependent Interaction Potentials Between Two Spin-1/2 Fermions Mediated by Light Spin-0 Particles

We present a calculation by including the relativistic and off-shell contributions to the interaction potentials between two spin-1/2 fermions mediated by the exchange of light spin-0 particles, in both momentum and coordinate spaces. Our calculation is based on the four-point Green function rather than the scattering amplitude. Among the sixteen potential components, eight that vanish in the non-relativistic limit are shown to acquire nonzero relativistic and off-shell corrections. In addition to providing relativistic and off-shell corrections to the operator basis commonly used in the literature, we introduce an alternative operator basis that facilitates the derivation of interaction potentials in coordinate space. Furthermore, we calculate both the long-range and short-range components of the potentials, which can be useful for future experimental analyses at both macroscopic and atomic scales.

Axion-pion scattering at finite temperature in chiral perturbation theory and its influence in axion thermalization

Axion-pion scattering amplitudes at finite temperatures are calculated within chiral perturbation theory up to the one loop level. Unitarization procedure is implemented to these amplitudes in order to extend the applicable range of energy and temperature. The influence of the thermal axion-pion scattering amplitudes on the $aπ\toππ$ cross sections and the axion thermalization rate is investigated, with the emphasis on the comparison with the zero-temperature-amplitude case. A brief discussion on the cosmological implication of the axion thermalization rate, that is calculated by using the $aπ\toππ$ amplitudes at finite temperatures, is also given. The thermal corrections to the axion-pion scattering amplitudes can cause around a $10\%$ shift of the determination of the axion decay constant $f_a$ and its mass $m_a$, comparing with the results by using the $aπ\toππ$ amplitudes at zero temperature.

Roy equation analyses of $ππ$ scatterings at unphysical pion masses

An extended Roy equation including a bound state pole is used to study $ππ$ scatterings at unphysical large pion masses when $σ$ becomes a bound state in one situation and stays as a broad resonance in the other case. The coupled integral equations at large pion masses are solved by taking the lattice driving terms and the Regge amplitudes as inputs. Relying on the solutions of Roy equations that respect unitarity, analyticity and crossing symmetry, we give predictions to the phase shifts with $IJ=00,11,20$ in the elastic energy region. We then perform analytic continuation into the complex $s$ plane to search for various poles, all of which are inside the validity domain of the Roy equation. This is the first time that lattice data at unphysical large pion masses are analyzed within the rigorous Roy equation method.

Reconciling experimental and lattice data of $Z_c(3900)$ in a $J/ψπ$-$D\bar{D}^*$ coupled-channel analysis

We study the $J/ψπ$ and $D\bar{D}^*$ coupled-channel system within a covariant framework. The $J/ψπ$ and $D\bar{D}^*$ invariant-mass distributions measured at 4.23~GeV and 4.26~GeV by BESIII and the finite-volume energy levels from recent lattice QCD simulations are simultaneously fitted. Phase shifts and inelasticities of the $J/ψπ$ and $D\bar{D}^*$ scattering are predicted using the resulting amplitudes. Poles corresponding to the $Z_c(3900)$ state are found in the complex energy plane and their couplings with $J/ψπ$ and $D\bar{D}^*$ are determined. Our results indicate that the current lattice data do not preclude the existence of a physical $Z_c(3900)$ state.

Axion-meson mixing in light of recent lattice $η$-$η'$ simulations and their two-photon couplings within $U(3)$ chiral theory

We study the mixing of the QCD/QCD-like axion and light-flavor mesons $π^0, η, η'$ within the framework of $U(3)$ chiral perturbation theory up to next-to-leading order in this work. The axion-meson mixing formulas are calculated order by order in the $U(3)$ $δ$-expansion scheme, namely the joint expansions of the momentum, light-quark masses and $1/N_C$. We provide axion-meson mixing relations in terms of the $π^0$-$η$-$η'$ mixing parameters and their masses. The recent lattice simulations on the $η$-$η'$ systems turn out to be able to offer valuable inputs to constrain the unknown low-energy constants. The relation of the mass and decay constant of the axion is then further explored based on our updated calculations. The two-photon couplings of the light-flavor mesons, together with the axion, are also investigated in the $U(3)$ chiral theory up to next-to-leading order in the $δ$-counting scheme.

Revisit of tensor-meson nonet in resonance chiral theory

We study the properties of the lowest multiplet of light-flavor tensor meson resonances, i.e. $f_2(1270)$, $a_2(1320)$, $K_2^*(1430)$, and $f_2'(1525)$, within the resonance chiral theory approach. The higher-order resonance chiral operators, including the light-quark mass and $1/N_C$ corrections, are simultaneously incorporated in our study. The use of resonance chiral expressions allows us to analyze not only the relevant experimental data but also in the meantime the lattice results at unphysical quark masses, including the masses of the lowest multiplet of tensor resonances and their decay widths into two pseudoscalar mesons. In addition, the radiative decays of the tensor resonances into one photon plus one pseudoscalar meson and two photons are also studied.

Coupled-channel $D^\ast K^\ast -D_s^\ast ρ$ interactions and the origin of $T_{c\bar{s}0}(2900)$

Motivated by the recent observation of $T_{c\bar{s}0}(2900)^0$ and $T_{c\bar{s}0}(2900)^{++}$ in the $D_s π$ invariant mass distributions, we investigate $D^{\ast}K^{\ast}$ interactions in a coupled-channel approach. We show that the relativistic corrections could be significant for the energy far away from the threshold. Within the hidden local symmetry formalism, a sizable attraction interaction is found in the $J=0$ isospin triplet sector that can form a bound or a virtual state, which is consistent with the experimentally observed $T_{c\bar{s}0}(2900)$. By reproducing a $D_s^*ρ$-$D^*K^*$ bound/virtual state with the pole mass equal to that of the $T_{c\bar{s}0}(2900)$ measured by LHCb in the sector $(I,J)=(1,0)$, we determine the unknown parameter in the loop function, and then search for possible poles in the sectors of $I=1$, $J=1,$ 2 and $I=0$, $J=0$, 1, 2. The predicted resonances provide a useful reference for the future experimental studies of the $(C,S)=(1,1)$ systems and can be also helpful to unravel the nature of the $T_{c\bar{s}0}(2900)$.10

Effective-Lagrangian study of $ψ'(J/ψ) \to VP$ and the insights into $ρπ$ puzzle

Within the effective Lagrangian approach, we carry out a unified study of the $J/ψ(ψ')\to VP$, $J/ψ\to Pγ$ and relevant radiative decays of light-flavor hadrons. Large amount of experimental data, including the various decay widths and electromagnetic form factors, are fitted to constrain the numerous hadron couplings. Relative strengths between the strong and electromagnetic interactions are revealed in the $J/ψ\to VP$ and $ψ' \to VP$ processes. The effect from the strong interaction is found to dominate in the $J/ψ\to ρπ$ decay, while the electromagnetic interaction turns out to be the dominant effect in $ψ' \to ρπ$ decay, which provides an explanation to the $ρπ$ puzzle. For the $J/ψ\to K^{*}\bar{K}+\bar{K}^{*}K$ and $ψ' \to K^{*}\bar{K}+\bar{K}^{*}K$, the former process is dominated by the strong interactions, and the effects from the electromagnetic parts are found to be comparable with those of strong interactions in the latter process. Different $SU(3)$ breaking effects from the electromagnetic parts appear in the charged and neutral channels for the $ψ' \to K^{*}\bar{K}+\bar{K}^{*}K$ processes explain the rather different ratios between $B(ψ'\to K^{*+}K^{-}+K^{*-}K^{+})/B(J/ψ\to K^{*+}K^{-}+K^{*-}K^{+})$ and $B(ψ'\to K^{*0}\bar{K}^{0}+\bar{K}^{*0}K^{0})/B(J/ψ\to K^{*0}\bar{K}^{0}+\bar{K}^{*0}K^{0})$.

Triple-product asymmetry in the radiative two-pion tau decay

In this work, we perform a detailed study of the $τ^-\toπ^-π^0γν$ decay process within the resonance chiral theory. We pay special attention to the triple-product asymmetry in the $τ^-\toπ^-π^0γν$ process. The minimal resonance chiral Lagrangian and the odd-intrinsic parity resonance operators are simultaneously included to calculate the decay amplitudes. Various invariant-mass distributions in the $π^-π^0$, $π^-γ$ and $π^0γ$ systems are studied and they reveal different resonance dynamics. We further predict the intriguing nonzero triple-product asymmetry distributions, which may provide useful guidelines for future experimental measurements conducted at the Belle-II and super tau-charm facilities.

Scrutinizing $ππ$ scattering in light of recent lattice phase shifts

In this paper, the $IJ=00, 11, 20$ partial wave $ππ$ scattering phase shifts determined by the lattice QCD approach are analyzed by using a novel dispersive solution of the S-matrix, i.e. the PKU representation, in which the unitarity and analyticity of scattering amplitudes are automatically satisfied and the phase shifts are conveniently decomposed into the contributions of the cuts and various poles, including bound states, virtual states and resonances. The contribution of the left-hand cut is estimated by the $SU(2)$ chiral perturbation theory to $\mathcal{O}(p^4)$. The Balanchandran-Nuyts-Roskies relations are considered as constraints to meet the requirements of the crossing symmetry. It is found that the $IJ=00$ $ππ$ scattering phase shifts obtained at $m_π=391$ MeV by Hadron Spectrum Collaboration (HSC) reveal the presence of both a bound state pole and a virtual state pole below the $ππ$ threshold rather than only one bound state pole for the $σ$. To reproduce the lattice phase shifts at $m_π=391$ MeV, a virtual-state pole in the $IJ=20$ channel is found to be necessary in order to balance the left-hand cut effects from the chiral amplitudes. Similar discussions are also carried out for the lattice results with $m_π=236$ MeV from HSC. The observed behaviors of the pole positions with respect to the variation of the pion masses can provide deep insights into our understanding of the dynamical origin of $σ$ resonance.

Insights into the nature of the $P_{cs}(4459)$

We study the nature of the recently observed $P_{cs}(4459)$ by the LHCb collaboration by employing three methods based on the elastic effective-range expansion and the resulting size of the effective-range, the saturation of the compositeness relation and width of the resonance, and a direct fit to data involving the channels $J/ψΛ$, $Ξ'_c\bar{D}$ and $Ξ_c\bar{D}^*$. We have also considered the addition of a CDD pole but this scenario can be discarded. Our different analyses clearly indicate the molecular nature of the $P_{cs}(4459)$ with a clear $Ξ_c\bar{D}^*$ dominant component. In relation with heavy-quark-spin symmetry our results also favor the actual existence of two resonances with $J=1/2$ (the lighter one) and $3/2$ (the heavier one) in the energy region of the $P_{cs}(4459)$. In the scenario of two-resonance for the $P_{cs}(4459)$, the inclusion of the $Ξ_c'\bar{D}$ channel is required for the their mass splitting and it allows one to determine the spin structures of the two resonances.

$N_C$ evolution of the light meson resonances

The variation of the resonance poles, i.e., the mass and width, originating from changing the values of $N_C$, the number of the QCD colors, provide an intuitive theoretical method to discriminate the interior constituents of hadrons. Many different approaches, including unitarized chiral amplitudes, dispersive methods, quark models, linear-sigma-model-like framework, etc., have been widely used to determine the $N_C$ trajectories of the various resonance pole positions. We focus on the discussions of the light-flavor meson resonances in this work.

Determination of the up/down-quark mass within QCD sum rules in the scalar channel

In this work, we determine up/down-quark mass $m_{q=u/d}$ in the isoscalar scalar channel from both the Shifman-Vainshtein-Zakharov (SVZ) and the Monte-Carlo-based QCD sum rules. The relevant spectral function, including the contributions from the $f_0(500)$, $f_0(980)$ and $f_0(1370)$ resonances, is determined from a sophisticated $U(3)$ chiral study. Via the traditional SVZ QCD sum rules, we give the prediction to the average light-quark mass $m_q(2 \, \text{GeV})=\frac{1}{2}(m_u(2 \, \text{GeV}) + m_d(2 \, \text{GeV}))=(3.46^{+0.16}_{-0.22} \pm 0.33) \, \text{MeV}$. Meanwhile, by considering the uncertainties of the input QCD parameters and the spectral functions of the isoscalar scalar channel, we obtain $m_q (2\, \text{GeV}) = (3.44 \pm 0.14 \pm 0.32) \, \text{MeV}$ from the Monte-Carlo-based QCD sum rules. Both results are perfectly consistent with each other, and nicely agree with the Particle Data Group value within the uncertainties.
