GraphAllocBench: A Flexible Benchmark for Preference-Conditioned Multi-Objective Policy Learning

Preference-Conditioned Policy Learning (PCPL) in Multi-Objective Reinforcement Learning (MORL) approximates diverse Pareto-optimal solutions by conditioning a single policy on user-specified preferences, enabling run-time adaptation to arbitrary trade-offs without retraining. However, existing PCPL benchmarks are largely restricted to toy tasks and fixed environments, limiting their realism and scalability. To address this gap, we introduce GraphAllocBench, a flexible benchmark built on CityPlannerEnv, a novel graph-based resource allocation sandbox inspired by city management. GraphAllocBench provides a rich suite of problems with customizable objective functions, varying preference conditions, complex Pareto Fronts, and high-dimensional scalability. We further propose two supplementary metrics -- Proportion of Non-Dominated Solutions (PNDS) and Ordering Score (OS) -- that capture prediction reliability and preference consistency while complementing the widely used hypervolume metric. Through experiments with several state-of-the-art PCPL algorithms and our own MLP and graph-aware PCPL-PPO baseline, we show that GraphAllocBench exposes distinct failure modes that hypervolume alone does not capture but our supplementary metrics reveal, while motivating graph-based approaches such as Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) for scaling to complex, high-dimensional allocation tasks. By letting users freely vary objectives, preferences, and allocation rules, GraphAllocBench serves as a versatile and extensible testbed for advancing PCPL.

Simple Survival End Point Calculator

In the study of survival endpoints, the size of the sample is crucial. The calculation of the sample size for survival endpoints was first proposed and presented by Freedman based on the logrank statistic. Later, many statisticians gradually introduced multiple factors such as dropout rate and delayed onset, proposed various estimation methods including the lrstat method, and developed corresponding statistical programs. However, the application of professional statistical functions is relatively complex. Based on this, this paper has developed a corresponding visual web application on the basis of the R package lrstat and powerSurvEpi, and tested its functions and program accordingly. The test results are basically consistent with the case, proving the effectiveness of the application.

Unveiling music genre structure through common-interest communities

Using a dataset of more than 90,000 metal music reviews written by over 9,000 users in a period of 15 years, we analyse the genre structure of metal music with the aid of review text information. We model the relationships between genres using a user-oriented network, based on the written reviews. We then perform community detection and employ a network "averaging" method to obtain stable genre clusters, in order to analyse the structures of clusters both locally within each cluster and globally over the entire network. In addition to identifying the clusters, we use Dependency Parsing and modified Term Frequency - Inverse Document Frequency to extract significant and unique features of each cluster. These structures and review text information can allow us to understand how music audience (fans) perceive similar and different genres, and also assist in classifying different genres which share common-interest user communities, offering a more objective way in grouping music genres. Furthermore, the classification can also help recommendation engines provide more targeted suggestions of music, and potentially help musicians to select genre labels for their music, and design music to better cater to preferences of their audiences based on previous reviews.

Development and Performance of a Sealed Liquid Xenon Time Projection Chamber

The liquid xenon (LXe) time projection chamber (TPC) technology is probing a wide range of dark matter masses from sub-GeV to a few TeV. To further improve its sensitivity to sub-GeV dark matter and its application in reactor neutrino monitoring via coherent elastic neutrino-nucleus scattering (CEvNS), more understanding and suppression of single/few electrons background rate are needed. Here we report on the design and performance of a sealed LXeTPC with a graphene-coated fused silica window as the cathode. The purpose of the sealed TPC is for isolating the liquid xenon target volume from the majority of out-gassing materials in the detector vessel, thus improving the liquid xenon purification efficiency and reducing the impurity-induced single/few electrons background. We investigated the out-gassing rate and purification efficiency using the data from the sealed TPC with a simple purification model. The single electron signals from the photoionization of impurities in LXe are obtained and their correlation with the LXe purity is investigated. The photo-electron emission rate on the graphene-coated electrode is compared to that from stainless steel, the electrode material typically used in LXe detectors. We discuss the possible further improvement and potential applications of the sealed TPC for the next generation liquid xenon experiments for dark matter and neutrino physics.
