Open-Loop Planning, Closed-Loop Verification: Speculative Verification for VLA

Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models, as large foundation models for embodied control, have shown strong performance in manipulation tasks. However, their performance comes at high inference cost. To improve efficiency, recent methods adopt action chunking, which predicts a sequence of future actions for open-loop execution. Although effective for reducing computation, open-loop execution is sensitive to environmental changes and prone to error accumulation due to the lack of close-loop feedback. To address this limitation, we propose Speculative Verification for VLA Control (SV-VLA), a framework that combines efficient open-loop long-horizon planning with lightweight closed-loop online verification. Specifically, SV-VLA uses a heavy VLA as a low-frequency macro-planner to generate an action chunk together with a planning context, while a lightweight verifier continuously monitors execution based on the latest observations. Conditioned on both the current observation and the planning context, the verifier compares the planned action against a closed-loop reference action and triggers replanning only when necessary. Experiments demonstrate that SV-VLA combines the efficiency of chunked prediction with the robustness of closed-loop control, enabling efficient and reliable VLA-based control in dynamic environments. Bayer-type Vis-NIR Routing via Inverse Design for Submicron-pixel Image Sensing Chip

With the advent of high-precision nanoscale lithography technology, high-resolution image sensing has experienced rapid development in recent years. Currently, mainstream commercial image sensors predominantly utilize Bayer array color filters to implement RGB colorful imaging strategies. However, as pixel sizes transition into the submicron dimensions, traditional dye filters used in image sensors have long been hampered by limited optical efficiency, suboptimal signal-to-noise ratios, and significant difficulties in miniaturization. In this work, a novel 4-channel RGB-IR color router for image sensing, distinct from the traditional absorption-transmission mechanisms, was proposed through inverse design methodologies. Utilizing genetic algorithms and DCGAN models, approximately 20,000 random color routing structures were generated and trained. From these, an optimized spectral splitting structure with a minimal periodic size of 1.6 um * 1.6 um was identified. This structure achieves peak optical efficiencies 1.7 times greater than those of dye filters, while also offering superior color imaging quality and signal intensity. This innovative design approach, leveraging deep learning integration, demonstrates an on-chip strategy for color realization in 4-channel image sensors, and holds significant promise for enhancing the development of next-generation high-performance image sensing chip systems.

Biocompatible Two-dimensional Titanium Nanosheets for Efficient Plasmonic Photothermal Cancer Therapy

Photothermal therapy (PTT) has shown significant potential in cancer treatment. However, developing nanomaterial-based photothermal agents with good biocompatibility and high photothermal conversion efficiency (PTCE) remains a key challenge. Titanium has been widely employed as biomedical materials based on their excellent biocompatibility. In this work, the titanium based plasmonic photothermal therapy (Ti-PPTT) is demonstrated. Using the liquid-phase exfoliation (LPE), the metallic Ti can be fabricated into the two-dimensional (2D) nanosheets (NSs), similar to exfoliating other layered 2D materials. The 2D Ti NSs exhibited good biocompatibility, high extinction coefficient of 20.8 Lg-1cm1 and high PTCE of 73.4%, owing to localized surface plasmon resonances (LSPR); which is significantly higher than other photothermal agents, including Au (21%), MoS2 (24.4%), BP (28.4%) and Ti3C2 MXene (30.6%). Consequently, 2D Ti-PPTT exhibited a notable therapeutic effect in a human hepatocellular carcinoma model without side effects. Our study could pave a new avenue for PTT using metal Ti and arouse a wide interest in the potential efficient PTT for other elemental transition metals owing to their LSPR. Furthermore, the efficient photothermal effect and environmental friendliness of Ti NSs make them deserve more research toward other application, such as solar energy harvesting and sea water desalination.
