Variable-Length Wideband CSI Feedback via Loewner Interpolation and Deep Learning

In this paper, we propose a variable-length wideband channel state information (CSI) feedback scheme for Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) massive multiple-input multipleoutput (MIMO) systems in U6G band (6425MHz-7125MHz). Existing compressive sensing (CS)-based and deep learning (DL)- based schemes preprocess the channel by truncating it in the angular-delay domain. However, the energy leakage effect caused by the Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) basis will be more serious and leads to a bottleneck in recovery accuracy when applied to wideband channels such as those in U6G. To solve this problem, we introduce the Loewner Interpolation (LI) framework which generates a set of dynamic bases based on the current CSI matrix, enabling highly efficient compression in the frequency domain. Then, the LI basis is further compressed in the spatial domain through a neural network. To achieve a flexible trade-off between feedback overhead and recovery accuracy, we design a rateless auto-encoder trained with tail dropout and a multi-objective learning schedule, supporting variable-length feedback with a singular model. Meanwhile, the codewords are ranked by importance, ensuring that the base station (BS) can still maintain acceptable reconstruction performance under limited feedback with tail erasures. Furthermore, an adaptive quantization strategy is developed for the feedback framework to enhance robustness. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme could achieve higher CSI feedback accuracy with less or equal feedback overhead, and improve spectral efficiency compared with baseline schemes.

EuAuSb: An odd-parity helical variation on altermagnetism

EuAuSb is a triangular-lattice Dirac semimetal in which a topological Hall effect has been observed to develop in association with a magnetically-ordered phase. Our single-crystal neutron diffraction measurements have identified an incommensurate helical order in which individual ferromagnetic Eu$^{2+}$ layers rotate in-plane by $\sim$120$^{\circ}$ from one layer to the next. An in-plane magnetic field distorts the incommensurate order, eventually leading to a first order transition to a state that is approximately commensurate and that is continuously polarized as the bulk magnetization approaches saturation. From an analysis of the magnetic diffraction intensities versus field, we find evidence for a dip in the ordered in-plane moment at the same field where the topological Hall effect is a maximum, and we propose that this is due to field-induced quantum spin fluctuations. Our electronic structure calculations yield exchange constants compatible with the helical order and show that the bands near the Fermi level lose their spin degeneracy via a mechanism similar to that in the collinear altermagnets. We find that, unlike the even symmetry seen in the altermagnets, the spin-splitting in EuAuSb has odd-wave symmetry similar to that recently found in a number of coplanar magnetic materials.

Multi-model Stochastic Particle-based Variational Bayesian Inference for Multiband Delay Estimation

Joint utilization of multiple discrete frequency bands can enhance the accuracy of delay estimation. Although some unique challenges of multiband fusion, such as phase distortion, oscillation phenomena, and high-dimensional search, have been partially addressed, further challenges remain. Specifically, under conditions of low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), insufficient data, and closely spaced delay paths, accurately determining the model order-the number of delay paths-becomes difficult. Misestimating the model order can significantly degrade the estimation performance of traditional methods. To address joint model selection and parameter estimation under such harsh conditions, we propose a multi-model stochastic particle-based variational Bayesian inference (MM-SPVBI) framework, capable of exploring multiple high-dimensional parameter spaces. Initially, we split potential overlapping primary delay paths based on coarse estimates, generating several parallel candidate models. Then, an auto-focusing sampling strategy is employed to quickly identify the optimal model. Additionally, we introduce a hybrid posterior approximation to improve the original single-model SPVBI, ensuring overall complexity does not increase significantly with parallelism. Simulations demonstrate that our algorithm offers substantial advantages over existing methods.

Conventional s-wave superconductivity and hidden peak effect in single crystals of Mo$_8$Ga$_41$ superconductor

London and Campbell penetration depths were measured in single crystals of the endohedral gallide cluster superconductor, Mo$_{8}$Ga$_{41}$. The full temperature range superfluid density is consistent with the clean isotropic $s-$wave weak-coupling BCS theory without any signs of the second gap or strong coupling. The temperature dependence of the Campbell length is hysteretic between zero-field cooling (ZFC) and field-cooling (FC) protocols, indicating an anharmonic vortex pinning potential. The field dependence of the effective critical current density, $j_{c}\left(H\right)$, reveals an unusual result. While in the ZFC protocol, $j_{c}\left(H\right)$ is monotonically suppressed by the magnetic field, it exhibits a profound ``hidden'' peak effect in the FC protocol, that is, without a vortex density gradient. We suggest a possible novel mechanism for the formation of the peak effect, which involves both static and dynamic aspects.

Spin waves in Dirac semimetal Ca$_{0.6}$Sr$_{0.4}$MnSb$_2$ investigated with neutrons by the diffraction method

We report neutron diffraction measurements of Ca$_{0.6}$Sr$_{0.4}$MnSb$_2$, a low-carrier-density Dirac semimetal in which the antiferromagnetic Mn layers are interleaved with Sb layers that host Dirac fermions. We have discovered that we can detect a good quality inelastic spin wave signal from a small (m ~ 0.28 g) single crystal sample by the diffraction method, without energy analysis, using a neutron diffractometer with a position-sensitive area detector; the spin-waves appear as diffuse scattering that is shaped by energy-momentum conservation. By fitting this characteristic magnetic scattering to a spin-wave model, we refine all parameters of the model spin Hamiltonian, including the inter-plane interaction, through use of a three-dimensional measurement in reciprocal space. We also measure the temperature dependence of the spin waves, including the softening of the spin gap on approaching the Neel temperature, $T_N$. Not only do our results provide important new insights into an interplay of magnetism and Dirac electrons, they also establish a new, high-throughput approach to characterizing magnetic excitations on a modern diffractometer without direct energy analysis. Our work opens exciting new opportunities for the follow-up parametric and compositional studies on small, ~0.1 g crystals.

Coexistence of Dirac fermion and charge density wave in square-net-based semimetal LaAuSb2

We report a comprehensive study of magnetotransport properties, angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), and density functional theory (DFT) calculations on self-flux grown LaAuSb$_2$ single crystals. Resistivity and Hall measurements reveal a charge density wave (CDW) transition at 77 K. MR and de Haas-Van Alphen (dHvA) measurements indicate that the transport properties of LaAuSb$_2$ are dominated by Dirac fermions that arise from Sb square nets. ARPES measurements and DFT calculations reveal an electronic structure with a common feature of the square-net-based topological semimetals, which is in good agreement with the magnetotransport properties. Our results indicate the coexistence of CDW and Dirac fermion in LaAuSb$_2$, both of which are linked to the bands arising from the Sb-square net, suggesting that the square net could serve as a structural motif to explore various electronic orders.

A Two-stage Multiband WiFi Sensing Scheme via Stochastic Particle-Based Variational Bayesian Inference

Multiband fusion enhances WiFi sensing by jointly utilizing signals from multiple non-contiguous frequency bands. However, in the multi-band WiFi sensing signal model, there are many local optimums in the associated likelihood function due to the existence of high frequency component and phase distortion factors, posing challenges for high-accuracy parameter estimation. To address this, we propose a two-stage scheme equipped with different signal models derived from the original model, where the first-stage coarse estimation is performed using a weighted root MUSIC algorithm to narrow down the search range for the subsequent stage, and the second-stage refined estimation utilizes a Bayesian approach to avoid convergence to bad suboptimal solutions. Specifically, we apply the block stochastic successive convex approximation (SSCA) approach to derive a novel stochastic particle-based variational Bayesian inference (SPVBI) algorithm in the refined stage. Unlike conventional particle-based VBI (PVBI) that optimizes only particle probability and incurs exponential per-iteration complexity with particle count, our more flexible SPVBI algorithm optimizes both the position and probability of each particle. Additionally, it utilizes block SSCA to significantly improve sampling efficiency by averaging over iterations, making it suitable for high-dimensional problems. Extensive simulations demonstrate the superiority of our proposed algorithm over various baseline methods.

A Stochastic Particle Variational Bayesian Inference Inspired Deep-Unfolding Network for Non-Convex Parameter Estimation

Future wireless networks are envisioned to provide ubiquitous sensing services, which also gives rise to a substantial demand for high-dimensional non-convex parameter estimation, i.e., the associated likelihood function is non-convex and contains numerous local optima. Variational Bayesian inference (VBI) provides a powerful tool for modeling complex estimation problems and reasoning with prior information, but poses a long-standing challenge on computing intractable posteriori distributions. Most existing variational methods generally rely on assumptions about specific distribution families to derive closed-form solutions, and are difficult to apply in high-dimensional, non-convex scenarios. Given these challenges, firstly, we propose a parallel stochastic particle variational Bayesian inference (PSPVBI) algorithm. Thanks to innovations such as particle approximation, additional updates of particle positions, and parallel stochastic successive convex approximation (PSSCA), PSPVBI can flexibly drive particles to fit the posteriori distribution with acceptable complexity, yielding high-precision estimates of the target parameters. Furthermore, additional speedup can be obtained by deep-unfolding (DU) the PSPVBI algorithm. Specifically, superior hyperparameters are learned to dramatically reduce the number of algorithmic iterations. In this PSPVBI-induced Deep-Unfolding Networks, some techniques related to gradient computation, data sub-sampling, differentiable sampling, and generalization ability are also employed to facilitate the practical deployment. Finally, we apply the LPSPVBI to solve several important parameter estimation problems in wireless sensing scenarios. Simulations indicate that the LPSPVBI algorithm outperforms existing solutions.

Electronic transport and thermoelectricity in selenospinel Cu$_{6-x}$Fe$_{4+x}$Sn$_{12}$Se$_{32}$

We report a study of selenospinel Cu$_{6-x}$Fe$_{4+x}$Sn$_{12}$Se$_{32}$ ($x$ = 0, 1, 2) single crystals, which crystalize in a cubic structure with the $Fd\overline{3}m$ space group, and show typical semiconducting behavior. The large discrepancy between the activation energy for electrical conductivity $E_ρ$ (32.3 $\sim$ 69.8 meV), and for thermopower $E_\textrm{S}$ (3.2 $\sim$ 11.5 meV), indicates a polaronic transport mechanism between 350 and 50 K. With decreasing temperature, it evolves into variable-range hopping conduction. Furthermore, the heat capacity shows a hump around 25(5) K and diverges from the Debye $T^3$ law at low temperatures, indicating the observation of structural glassy features in these crystalline solids.

Coupling of magnetism and Dirac fermions in YbMnSb2

We report inelastic neutron scattering measurements of magnetic excitations in YbMnSb2, a low-carrier-density Dirac semimetal in which the antiferromagnetic Mn layers are interleaved with Sb layers that host Dirac fermions. We observe a considerable broadening of spin waves, which is consistent with substantial spin fermion coupling. The spin wave damping, $γ$, in YbMnSb2 is roughly twice larger compared to that in a sister material, YbMnBi2, where an indication of a small damping consistent with theoretical analysis of the spin-fermion coupling was reported. The inter-plane interaction between the Mn layers in YbMnSb2 is also much stronger, suggesting that the interaction mechanism is rooted in the same spin-fermion coupling. Our results establish the systematics of spin-fermion interactions in layered magnetic Dirac materials.

Thermal transport properties of IrSbSe

We report a thermal transport study of IrSbSe, which crystallizes in a noncentrosymmetric cubic structure with the $P2_13$ space group and shows a narrow-gap semiconducting behavior. The large discrepancy between the activation energy for conductivity [$E_ρ$ = 128(2) meV] and for thermopower [$E_S$ = 17.7(9) meV] from 200 to 300 K indicates the polaronic transport mechanism. Electrical resistivity varies as $exp(T_0/T)^{1/4}$ and thermopower varies as $T^{1/2}$ at low temperatures, indicating that it evolves into the Mott's variable-range hopping dominant conduction with decreasing temperature. IrSbSe shows relatively low value of thermal conductivity ($\sim$ 1.65 W/K$\cdot$m) and thermopower of about 0.24 mV/K around 100 K, yet poor electrical conductivity. On the other hand, high vacancy defect concentration on both Ir and Sb atomic sites of up to 15\%, suggests high defect tolerance and points to possibility of future improvement of carrier density by chemical substitution or defect optimization.

Enhanced Superconductivity and Electron Correlations in Intercalated ZrTe$_3$

Charge density waves (CDWs) with superconductivity, competing Fermi surface instabilities and collective orders, have captured much interest in two-dimensional van der Waals (vdW) materials. Understanding of CDW suppression mechanism, its connection to emerging superconducting state and electronic correlations provides opportunities for engineering the electronic properties of vdW heterostructures and thin film devices. Using combination of the thermal transport, X-ray photoemission spectroscopy, Raman measurements, and first-principle calculations, we observe an increase in electronic correlations of the conducting states as CDW is suppressed in ZrTe$_3$ with 5\% Cu and Ni intercalation in the vdW gap. As superconductivity emerges, intercalation brings decoupling of quasi-one-dimensional conduction electrons with phonons as a consequence of intercalation-induced lattice expansion but also a drastic increase in Zr$^{2+}$ at the expense of Zr$^{4+}$ metal atoms. These observation demonstrate the potential of atomic intercalates in vdW gap for ground state tuning but also illustrate the crucial role of Zr metal valence in formation of collective electronic orders.

Giant thermoelectric power factor anisotropy in PtSb$_{1.4}$Sn$_{0.6}$

We report giant anisotropy in thermoelectric power factor ($S^2σ$) of marcasite structure-type PtSb$_{1.4}$Sn$_{0.6}$. PtSb$_{1.4}$Sn$_{0.6}$, synthesized using ambient pressure flux growth method upon mixing Sb and Sn on the same atomic site, is a new phase different from both PtSb$_2$ and PtSn$_2$ that crystallize in the cubic $Pa\bar{3}$ pyrite and $Fm\bar{3}m$ fluorite unit cell symmetry, respectively. Giant difference in $S^2σ$ for heat flow applied along different principal directions of the orthorhombic unit cell mostly stems from anisotropic Seebeck coefficients.

Short-range Crystalline Order-Tuned Conductivity in Cr$_2$Si$_2$Te$_6$ van der Waals Magnetic Crystals

Two-dimensional magnetic materials (2DMM) are significant for studies on the nature of 2D long range magnetic order but also for future spintronic devices. Of particular interest are 2DMM where spins can be manipulated by electrical conduction. Whereas Cr$_2$Si$_2$Te$_6$ exhibits magnetic order in few-layer crystals, its large band gap inhibits electronic conduction. Here we show that the defect-induced short-range crystal order in Cr$_2$Si$_2$Te$_6$ on the length scale below 0.6 nm induces substantially reduced band gap and robust semiconducting behavior down to 2 K that turns to metallic above 10 GPa. Our results will be helpful to design conducting state in 2DMM and call for spin-resolved measurement of the electronic structure in exfoliated ultrathin crystals.

Polaronic Conductivity in Cr$_2$Ge$_2$Te$_6$ Single Crystals

Intrinsic, two-dimensional (2D) ferromagnetic semiconductors are an important class of materials for spin-charge conversion applications. Cr$_2$Ge$_2$Te$_6$ retains long-range magnetic order in bilayer at cryogenic temperatures and shows complex magnetic interactions with considerable magnetic anisotropy. Here, we performed a series of structural, magnetic, X-ray scattering, electronic, thermal transport and first-principles calculation studies which reveal that localized electronic charge carriers in Cr$_2$Ge$_2$Te$_6$ are dressed by surrounding lattice and are involved in polaronic transport via hopping that is sensitive on details of magnetocrystalline anisotropy. This opens possibility for manipulation of charge transport in Cr$_2$Ge$_2$Te$_6$ - based devices by electron-phonon- and spin-orbit coupling-based tailoring of polaron properties.

Thermal transport and mixed valence in ZrTe$_3$ doped with Hf and Se

Two-dimensional transition metal trichalcogenides (TMTC's) feature covalently bonded metal-chalcogen layers separated by the van der Waals (vdW) gap. Similar to transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs), TMTCs often host charge density waves (CDWs) and superconductivity but unlike TMDCs atomic chains in the crystal structure give rise to quasi one-dimensional (quasi 1D) conduction. ZrTe$_3$ features CDW below $T_{\textrm{CDW}}$ = 63 K and filamentary superconductivity below 2 K that can be enhanced by pressure or chemical substitution. Here we report the presence of mixed valent Zr$^{2+}$ and Zr$^{4+}$ atoms in ZrTe$_3$ crystals that is reduced by doping in ZrTe$_{3-x}$Se$_x$ and Zr$_{1-y}$Hf$_y$Te$_3$. Superconductivity is enhanced via disorder in Te2-Te3 atomic chains that are associated with CDW formation. Hf substitution on Zr atomic site enhances $T_{\textrm{CDW}}$ due to unperturbed Te2-Te3 chain periodicity and enhanced electron-phonon coupling. Weak electronic correlations in ZrTe$_{3-x}$Se$_x$ are likely governed by the lattice contraction effects.

Electrical and thermal transport in van der Waals magnets 2H-M$_x$TaS$_2$ (M = Mn, Co)

We report a detailed study of electrical and thermal transport properties in 2H-M$_x$TaS$_2$ (M = Mn, Co) magnets where M atoms are intercalated in the van der Waals gap. The intercalation induces ferromagentism with an easy-plane anisotropy in 2H-Mn$_x$TaS$_2$, but ferromagnetism with a strong uniaxial anisotropy in 2H-Co$_{0.22}$TaS$_2$, which finally evolves into a three-dimensional antiferromagnetism in 2H-Co$_{0.34}$TaS$_2$. Temperature-dependent electrical resistivity shows metallic behavior for all samples. Thermopower is negative in the whole temperature range for 2H-Co$_x$TaS$_2$, whereas the sign changes from negative to positive with increasing Mn for 2H-Mn$_x$TaS$_2$. The diffusive thermoelectric response dominates in both high- and low-temperature ranges for all samples. A clear kink in electrical resistivity, a weak anomaly in thermal conductivity, as well as a slope change in thermopower were observed at the magnetic transitions for 2H-Mn$_{0.28}$TaS$_2$ ($T_\textrm{c}$ $\approx$ 82 K) and 2H-Co$_{0.34}$TaS$_2$ ($T_\textrm{N}$ $\approx$ 36 K), respectively, albeit weaker for lower $x$ crystals. Co-intercalation promoted ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic transition is further confirmed by the Hall resistivity; the sign change of the ordinary Hall coefficient indicates a multi-band behavior in 2H-Co$_x$TaS$_2$.

Three-dimensional ferromagnetism and magnetotransport in van der Waals Mn-intercalated tantalum disufide

Van der Waals (vdW) ferromagnets are an important class of materials for spintronics applications. The recent discovery of atomically vdW magnets CrI$_3$ and Cr$_2$Ge$_2$Te$_6$ has triggered a renaissance in the area of two-dimensional (2D) magnetism. Herein we systematically studied 2H-Mn$_{0.28}$TaS$_2$ single crystal, a 2D vdW ferromagnet with $T_c$ $\sim$ 82.3 K and a large in-plane magnetic anisotropy. Mn $K$-edge x-ray absorption spectroscopy was measured to provide information on its electronic state and local atomic environment. The detailed magnetic isotherms measured in the vicinity of $T_c$ indicates that the spin coupling inside 2H-Mn$_{0.28}$TaS$_2$ is of a three-dimensional (3D) Heisenberg-type coupled with the attractive long-range interaction between spins that decay as $J(r)\approx r^{-4.85}$. Both resistivity $ρ(T)$ and thermopower $S(T)$ exhibit anomalies near $T_c$, confirming that the hole-type transport carriers strongly interact with local moments. An unusual angle-dependent magnetoresistance is further observed, suggesting a possible field-induced novel magnetic structure.
