Multiple magnetic orders discovered in the superconducting state of EuFe$_{2}$(As$_{1-x}$P$_{x}$)$_{2}$

The interplay between superconductivity and magnetism is an important subject in condensed matter physics. EuFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$-based iron pnictides could offer an interesting plateau to study their relationship that has attracted considerable attention. So far, two magnetic phase transitions were observed in EuFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$-based crystal, which were deemed to originate from the itinerant Fe moments ($\sim$ 190 K) and the localized Eu$^{2+}$ moments ($\sim$ 19 K), respectively. Here, we systematically studied the heat capacity for the EuFe$_{2}$(As$_{1-x}$P$_{x}$)$_{2}$ crystals with \textit{x} = 0.21 (optimally doped) and \textit{x} = 0.29 (overdoped). We have found two new magnetic orders in the superconducting state (ranging from 0.4 to 1.2 K) in the optimally doped crystal. As more P was introduced into the As site, one of the magnetic orders becomes absent in the overdoped crystal. Additionally, we observed strong field and orientation dependence in heat capacity. The present findings in EuFe$_{2}$(As$_{1-x}$P$_{x}$)$_{2}$ have detected the new low-temperature magnetic orders, which may originate from the localized Eu$^{2+}$ spins order or the spin reorientation.

Superconductive Sodalite-like Clathrate Hydrides MXH$_{12}$ with Critical Temperatures of near 300 K under Pressures

We designed and investigated a series of ternary hydride compounds MXH$_{12}$ crystallizing in the cubic $Pm\overline{3}m$ structure as potential rare-earth and alkaline-earth superconductors. First-principles calculations were performed on these prospective superconductors across the pressure range of 50-200 GPa, revealing their electronic band structures, phonon dispersions, electron-phonon interactions, and superconducting properties. Several compounds were identified as dynamically stable, with ScYbH$_{12}$ and LuYbH$_{12}$ remaining stable at 70 GPa, and ScLuH$_{12}$ at 100 GPa. Notably, Eliashberg theory and electron-phonon coupling calculations predict CaLuH$_{12}$ to exhibit a remarkable $T_{c}$ of up to 294 K at 180 GPa. These findings unveil ternary hydrides as a promising class of high-temperature superconductors and provide insights for achieving superconductivity at lower or ambient pressures through material design and exploration.

Unusually weak irradiation effects in anisotropic iron-based superconductor RbCa2Fe4As4F2

We report on the effects of 3.5 MeV proton irradiation in RbCa$_2$Fe$_4$As$_4$F$_2$, an iron-based superconductor with unusual properties in between those of the pnictides and of the cuprate high-temperature superconductors. We studied how structural disorder introduced by ion bombardment affects the critical temperature, superfluid density and gap values by combining a coplanar waveguide resonator technique, electric transport measurements and point-contact Andreev-reflection spectroscopy. We find an unusually weak dependence of the superconducting properties on the amount of disorder in this material when compared to other iron-based superconductors under comparable irradiation conditions. The nodal multigap state exhibited by pristine RbCa$_2$Fe$_4$As$_4$F$_2$ is also robust against proton irradiation, with a two-band $d-d$ model being the one that best fits the experimental data.

Observation of zero resistance above 100$^\circ$ K in Pb$_{10-x}$Cu$_x$(PO$_4$)$_6$O

Room-temperature superconductivity has always been regarded as the ultimate goal in the fields of solid-state physics and materials science, with its realization holding revolutionary significance, capable of triggering significant changes in energy transmission and storage. However, achieving it poses various challenges. Recent research revealed that material Pb$_{10-x}$Cu$_x$(PO$_4$)$_6$O displays room-temperature superconductivity under atmospheric pressure, sparking global interest in further exploration. Here, we utilized solid-phase synthesis to obtain a polycrystalline sample of Pb$_{10-x}$Cu$_x$(PO$_4$)$_6$O. X-ray diffraction confirmed its structural consistency with referenced literature. Zero resistance, which is important evidence for superconductivity, was observed above 100$^\circ$ K under ambient pressure in our experiment. Our finding indicates that Pb$_{10-x}$Cu$_x$(PO$_4$)$_6$O is a possible candidate for searching high-temperature superconductors.

Superconducting phase above room temperature in lutetium-beryllium hydrides at high pressures

High-pressure structural search was performed on the hydrogen-rich compound LuBeH$_8$ at pressures up to 200 GPa. We found a $Fm\overline{3}m$ structure that exhibits stability and superconductivity above 100 GPa. Our phonon dispersion, electronic band structure, and superconductivity analyses in the 100-200 GPa pressure range reveal a strong electron-phonon coupling in LuBeH$_8$. While $T_{c}$ shows a decreasing trend as the pressure increases, with a superconducting critical temperature $T_c$ of 255 K at 200 GPa and a maximum $T_c$ of 355 k at 100 GPa. Our research has demonstrated the room-temperature superconductivity in $Fm\overline{3}m$-LuBeH$_8$, thus enriching the family of ternary hydrides. These findings provide valuable guidance for identifying new high-temperature superconducting hydrides.

Novel Anisotropy of Upper Critical Fields in Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{0.6}$Se$_{0.4}$

Studying the upper critical field ($μ_0$$H$$_{\rm{c2}}$) and its anisotropy of superconductors is of great importance because it can provide an unusual insight into the pair-breaking mechanism. Since Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{1-x}$Se$_x$ exhibits the high $μ_0$$H$$_{\rm{c2}}$ and small anisotropic superconductivity, it has attracted considerable attention. However, some issues related to $μ_0$$H$$_{\rm{c2}}$ are still unknown, including the effect of excess Fe content on $μ_0$$H$$_{\rm{c2}}$ behavior and the origin of the crossover of the $μ_0H_{\rm{c2}}^c $ -- $ T$ and $μ_0H_{\rm{c2}}^{ab}$ -- $T$ curves. In this work, the value of $μ_0$$H$$_{\rm{c2}}$ of Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{0.6}$Se$_{0.4}$ single crystals with controlled amounts of excess Fe was obtained by resistivity measurements over a wide range of temperatures down to $\sim$ 1.5 K, and magnetic fields up to $\sim$ 60 T. The crossover of the $μ_0H_{\rm{c2}}^c $ -- $ T$ and $μ_0H_{\rm{c2}}^{ab}$ -- $T$ curves was found to be independent of the excess Fe content. The angle dependence of $μ_0H_{\rm{c2}}$ was also checked. The $μ_0H_{\rm{c2}}(θ)$ symmetry at higher temperature near $T_c$ could be fitted by anisotropic G-L model, and novel fourfold symmetry of $μ_0H_{\rm{c2}}$ at lower temperature was found. Based on our spin-locking pairing model, the crossover behavior originates from the anisotropic spin-paramagnetic effect, and the novel fourfold symmetry of $μ_0H_{\rm{c2}}$ could be understood by our extended anisotropic G-L model.

Large upper critical fields and dimensionality crossover of superconductivity in infinite-layer nickelate La$_{0.8}$Sr$_{0.2}$NiO$_{2}$

The recently emerging superconductivity in infinite-layer nickelates, with isostructure and isoelectron of cuprates, provides a new platform to explore the pairing mechanism of high-temperature superconductors. In this work, we studied the upper critical field ($H_{\rm{c2}}$) of a high-quality La$_{0.8}$Sr$_{0.2}$NiO$_{2}$ thin film with superconducting transition temperature, $T_{\rm{c}}$ = 18.8 K, using high magnetic field up to 56 T. A very large $H_{\rm{c2}}$, $\sim$ 40 T for $H$ $\Arrowvert$ $c$ and $\sim$ 52 T for $H$ $\Arrowvert$ $ab$, was confirmed, which suggests that infinite-layer nickelates also have great application potential. The anisotropy of $H_{\rm{c2}}$ monotonically decreases from $\sim$ 10 near $T_{\rm{c}}$ to $\sim$ 1.5 at 2 K. Angle dependence of $H_{\rm{c2}}$ confirms the crossover of superconductivity from two-dimensional (2D) to three-dimensional (3D) as the temperature decreases. We discussed that the interstitial orbital effect causes the weakening of anisotropy. The observed abnormal upturning of $H_{\rm{c2}}$ at low temperatures is found to be a universal behavior independent of film quality and rare earth elements. Therefore, it should not be the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state due to the fact that it is in the dirty limit and insensitive to disorder.

Observation of non-superconducting phase changes in LuH$_{2\pm\text{x}}$N$_y$

The recent report of near-ambient superconductivity in nitrogen doped lutetium hydride has triggered a worldwide fanaticism and raised major questions about the latest claims. An intriguing phenomenon of color changes in pressurized samples from blue to pink to red was observed and correlated with the claimed superconducting transition, but the origin and underlying physics of these color changes have yet to be elucidated. Here we report synthesis and characterization of high-purity nitrogen doped lutetium hydride LuH$_{2\pm\text{x}}$N$_y$ with the same structure and composition as in the main phase of near-ambient superconductor1. We find a new purple phase of LuH$_{2\pm\text{x}}$N$_y$ between blue and pink phase, and reveal that the sample color changes likely stem from pressure-driven redistribution of nitrogen and its interaction with the LuH$_2$ framework. No superconducting transition is found in all blue, purple, pink and red phases at temperatures 1.8-300 K and pressures 0-30 GPa. Instead, we identify a notable temperature-induced resistance anomaly of structural and/or electronic origin in LuH$_{2\pm\text{x}}$N$_y$, which is most pronounced in the pink phase and may have been erroneously interpreted as a sign of superconducting transition. This work establishes key benchmarks for nitrogen doped lutetium hydrides, allowing an in-depth understanding of the novel pressure-induced phase changes.

Anomalous second magnetization peak in 12442-type RbCa$_2$Fe$_4$As$_4$F$_2$ superconductors

The second magnetization peak (SMP) appears in most superconductors and is crucial for the understanding of vortex physics as well as the application. Although it is well known that the SMP is related to the type and quantity of disorder/defects, the mechanism has not been universally understood. In this work, we selected three stoichiometric superconducting RbCa$_2$Fe$_4$As$_4$F$_2$ single crystals with identical superconducting critical temperature $T_c$ $\sim$ 31 K and similar self-field critical current density $J_c$, but with different amounts of disorder/defects, to study the SMP effect. It is found that only the sample S2 with a moderate disorder/defects shows a significant SMP effect. The evolution of the normalized pinning force density $f_p$ demonstrates that the dominant pinning mechanism changes from weak pinning at low temperatures to strong pinning at high temperatures. The microstructure study for sample S2 reveals some expanded Ca$_2$F$_2$ layers and dislocation defects in RbFe$_2$As$_2$ layers. The normalized magnetic relaxation results indicate that the SMP is strongly associated with the elastic to plastic (E-P) vortex transition. As temperature increases, the SMP gradually evolves into a step-like shape and then becomes a sharp peak near the irreversibility field similar to what is usually observed in low-temperature superconductors. Our findings connect the low field SMP of high-temperature superconductors and the high field peak of low-temperature superconductors, revealing the possible universal origin related to the E-P phase transition.

Significant enhancement of critical current density in H+-intercalated FeSe single crystal

Superconducting transition temperature (Tc) and critical current density (Jc) are two key factors that are not only crucial for probing high-temperature superconducting mechanisms, but also for practical applications. The simple crystal structure of FeSe is very favorable for the fabrication of thin films and wires, but its application is limited by the relatively low Tc and small Jc. A previous study has found that the Tc of FeSe can be significantly enhanced over 40 K by using the protonation method. Here, we present a systematic study of Jc and vortex properties of H+-intercalated FeSe (Hx-FeSe) single crystals. The value of Jc for Hx-FeSe single crystal is significantly enhanced, exceeding 1.3*10^6 A/cm2 at 4 K, which is more than two orders of magnitude larger than 1.1*10^4 A/cm2 of pristine FeSe. The vortex pinning mechanism of Hx-FeSe is found to be surface pinning, which is different from the dominant strong point-like pinning in pristine FeSe. Moreover, the systematic study of the vortex phase transition and the underlying mechanism provides a wealth of information for the vortex phase diagram of Hx-FeSe single crystal. Our results confirm that the introduction of H+ intercalations into FeSe not only enhances the Tc, but also significantly increases the value of Jc, which is favorable for practical applications.

Superconductivity in CeBeH$_{8}$ and CeBH$_{8}$ at moderate pressures

High-pressure structural searches of superhydrides CeBeH$_8$ and CeBH$_8$ were performed under ambient pressure up to 300 GPa. We identify $Fm\overline{3}m$-CeBeH$_8$ with a superconducting transition temperature $T_{c}$ of 56 K at 10 GPa. Two more phases with spacegroup $R\overline{3}m$ and $C2/m$, were investigated within the increasing pressures. CeBH$_8$ shows a similar phase transition process as CeBeH$_8$ but with higher transition pressures and higher $T_c$. $Fm\overline{3}m$-CeBH$_8$ is predicted to be superconducting above 120 GPa with a maximum $T_{c}$ of 118 K at 150 GPa. $R\overline{3}m$-CeBH$_8$ and $C2/m$-CeBH$_8$ are dynamically stable above 120 GPa and 100 GPa, respectively. The maximum $T_{c}$ is 123 K at 195 GPa for $R\overline{3}m$-CeBH$_8$, and 115 K at 350 GPa for $C2/m$-CeBH$_8$. Our work enriches the family of ternary hydrides and may provide a useful guideline for further search for superconducting hydrides at low and moderate pressures.

Observation of robust zero-energy state and enhanced superconducting gap in a tri-layer heterostructure of MnTe/Bi2Te3/Fe(Te, Se)

The interface between magnetic material and superconductors has long been predicted to host unconventional superconductivity, such as spin-triplet pairing and topological nontrivial pairing state, particularly when spin-orbital coupling (SOC) is incorporated. To identify these novel pairing states, fabricating homogenous heterostructures which contain such various properties are preferred, but often challenging. Here we synthesized a tri-layer type van-der Waals heterostructure of MnTe/Bi2Te3/Fe(Te, Se), which combined s-wave superconductivity, thickness dependent magnetism and strong SOC. Via low-temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), we observed robust zero-energy states with notably nontrivial properties and an enhanced superconducting gap size on single unit-cell (UC) MnTe surface. In contrast, no zero-energy state was observed on 2UC MnTe. First-principle calculations further suggest the 1UC MnTe has large interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) and a frustrated AFM state, which could promote non-collinear spin textures. It thus provides a promising platform for exploring topological nontrivial superconductivity.

Phase Transitions and Superconductivity in Ternary Hydride Li$_2$SiH$_6$ at High Pressures

We predicted a new ternary hydride Li$_2$SiH$_6$ at high pressures. A systematic structure search in Li$_2$SiH$_6$ compound reveals novel stable phases with intriguing electronic and phonon properties. It is found that Li$_2$SiH$_6$ is dynamically stable from ambient pressure up to 400 GPa with three novel phases: P312, P$\bar{3}$, and P$\bar{6}$2m. The calculation of electron-phonon coupling combined with Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer's argument indicates that this compound may be a candidate for high $T_c$ superconductors under high pressures. In particular, the maximum $T_c$ of $P\bar{6}2m$-Li$_2$SiH$_6$ at 400 GPa reaches 56 K. These findings may pave the way for obtaining room temperature superconductors in dense hydrogen-rich compounds.

Nodal multigap superconductivity in the anisotropic iron-based compound RbCa2Fe4As4F2

The 12442 compounds are a recently discovered family of iron-based superconductors, that share several features with the cuprates due to their strongly anisotropic structure, but are so far poorly understood. Here, we report on the gap structure and anisotropy of RbCa2(Fe1-xNix)4As4F2 single crystals, investigated by a combination of directional point-contact Andreev-reflection spectroscopy and coplanar waveguide resonator measurements. Two gaps were identified, with clear signatures of d-wave-like nodal structures which persist upon Ni doping, well described by a two-band d-d state with symmetry-imposed nodes. A large London penetration depth anisotropy was revealed, weakly dependent on temperature and fully compatible with the d-d model.

Protonation-induced discrete superconducting phases in bulk FeSe single crystals

The superconducting transition temperature, $T_{\rm{c}}$, of FeSe can be significantly enhanced several-fold by applying pressure, electron doping, intercalating spacing layer, and reducing dimensionality. Various ordered electronic phases, such as nematicity and spin density waves, have also been observed accompanying high-$T_{\rm{c}}$ superconductivity. Investigation on the evolution of the electronic structure with $T_{\rm{c}}$ is essential to understanding electronic behavior and high-$T_{\rm{c}}$ superconductivity in FeSe and its derived superconductors. In this report, we have found a series of discrete superconducting phases, with a maximum $T_{\rm{c}}$ up to 44 K, in H$^+$-intercalated FeSe single crystals using an ionic liquid gating method. Accompanied with the increase of $T_{\rm{c}}$, suppression of the nematic phase and evolution from non-Fermi-liquid to Fermi-liquid behavior was observed. An abrupt change in the Fermi surface topology was proposed to explain the discrete superconducting phases. A band structure that favors the high-$T_{\rm{c}}$ superconducting phase was also revealed.

Disorder-robust high-field superconducting phase of FeSe single crystals

When exposed to high magnetic fields, certain materials manifest an exotic superconducting (SC) phase that has attracted considerable attention. A proposed explanation for the origin of the high-field SC phase is the Fulde-Ferrell-Larkin-Ovchinnikov (FFLO) state. This state is characterized by inhomogeneous superconductivity, where the Cooper pairs have finite center-of-mass momenta. Recently, the high-field SC phase was observed in FeSe, and it was deemed to originate from the FFLO state. Here, we synthesize FeSe single crystals with different levels of disorder. The level of disorder is expressed by the ratio of the mean free path to the coherence length and ranges between 35 and 1.2. The upper critical field \textit{B}$_{\rm{c}2}$ was obtained by both resistivity and magnetic torque measurements over a wide range of temperatures, which went as low as $\sim$0.5 K, and magnetic fields, which went up to $\sim$38 T along the \textit{c} axis and in the \textit{ab} plane. In the high-field region parallel to the \textit{ab} plane, an unusual SC phase was confirmed in all the crystals, and the phase was found to be robust against disorder. This result suggests that the high-field SC phase in FeSe is not a conventional FFLO state.

Comparative study of superconducting and normal-state anisotropy in Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{0.6}$Se$_{0.4}$ superconductors with controlled amounts of interstitial excess Fe

We report a systematic study of the superconducting (SC) and normal-state anisotropy of Fe$_{1+y}$Te$_{0.6}$Se$_{0.4}$ single crystals with controlled amounts of excess Fe ($y$ = 0, 0.07, and 0.14). The SC state anisotropy $γ_{H}$ was obtained by measuring the upper critical fields under high magnetic fields over 50 T for both $H\parallel ab$ and $H\parallel c$. On the other hand, the normal state anisotropy $γ_ρ$ was obtained by measuring the resistivity with current flowing in the $ab$ plane ($ρ_{ab}$) and along the $c$ axis ($ρ_c$). To precisely measure $ρ_{ab}$ and $ρ_c$ in the same part of a specimen avoiding the variation dependent on pieces or parts, we adopt a new method using a micro-fabricated bridge with an additional neck part along $c$ axis. The $γ_{H}$ decreases from a value dependent on the amount of excess Fe at $T_{\rm{c}}$ to a common value $\sim$ 1 at 2 K. The different $γ_{H}$ at $T_{\rm{c}}$ ($\sim$1.5 for $y$ = 0, and 2.5 for $y$ = 0.14) suggests that the anisotropy of effective mass $m_c^*/m_{ab}^*$ increases from $\sim$ 2.25 ($y$ = 0) to 6.25 ($y$ = 0.14) with the excess Fe. The almost isotropic $γ_{H}$ at low temperatures is due to the strong spin paramagnetic effect at $H\parallel ab$. By contrast, the $γ_ρ$ shows a much larger value of $\sim$ 17 ($y$ = 0) to $\sim$ 50 ($y$ = 0.14) at the temperature just above $T_{\rm{c}}$. Combined the results of $γ_{H}$ and $γ_ρ$ near $T_{\rm{c}}$, we found out that the discrepant anisotropies between the SC and normal states originates from a large anisotropy of scattering time $τ_{ab}$/$τ_c$ $\sim$ 7.8. The $τ_{ab}$/$τ_c$ is found to be independent of the excess Fe.

Electronic transport properties and hydrostatic pressure effect of FeSe$_{0.67}$Te$_{0.33}$ single crystals free of phase separation

FeSe$_{1-x}$Te$_{x}$ superconductors manifest some intriguing electronic properties depending on the value of $x$. In FeSe single crystal, the nematic phase and Dirac band structure have been observed, while topological surface superconductivity with the Majorana bound state was found in the crystal of $x \sim 0.55$. Therefore, the electronic properties of single crystals with $0 < x \leq 0.5$ are crucial for probing the evolution of those intriguing properties as well as their relations. However, this study is still left blank due to the lack of single crystals because of phase separation. Here, we report the synthesis, magnetization, electronic transport properties, and hydrostatic pressure effect of FeSe$_{0.67}$Te$_{0.33}$ single crystals free of phase separation. A structural (nematic) transition is visible at $T_{s} = 39$ K, below which the resistivity exhibits a Fermi-liquid behavior. Analysis of upper critical fields suggests that spin-paramagnetic effect should be taken into account for both $H \parallel c$ axis and $H \parallel ab$ plane. A crossover from the low-$H$ quadratic to the high-$H$ quasi-linear behavior is observed in the magnetoresistance, signifying the possible existence of Dirac-cone state. Besides, the strong temperature dependence of Hall coefficient, violation of (modified) Kohler's rule, and two-band model analysis indicate the multiband effects in FeSe$_{0.67}$Te$_{0.33}$ single crystals. Hydrostatic pressure measurements reveal that $T_{s}$ is quickly suppressed with pressure while $T_{c}$ is monotonically increased up to 2.31 GPa, indicating the competition between nematicity and superconductivity. No signature of magnetic order that has been detected in FeSe$_{1-x}$S$_{x}$ is observed. Our findings fill up the blank of the knowledge on the basic properties of FeSe$_{1-x}$Te$_{x}$ system with low-Te concentrations.
