Plateau Gaps of Poisson Correctors Encode Metastable Reaction Rates

Metastable reaction rates are commonly inferred from transition-state fluxes, mean first-passage times, or fitted kinetic models. We show that they are directly encoded in the plateau gap of an occupation-time Poisson corrector. For a centered basin-occupation observable, the Poisson corrector develops metastable plateaus in the reactant and product basins, and their separation determines the forward and backward transition rates. This construction requires only the generator, stationary measure, and metastable partition, and therefore does not rely on a predefined transition-state surface. In overdamped and underdamped double-well dynamics, the plateau-gap rate recovers the Kramers, Grote-Hynes, and Pollak-Grabert-Hänggi hierarchy. The same corrector-martingale decomposition yields a reactive-noise density, revealing where stochastic forcing contributes to transitions in configuration or phase space. Thus, reaction rates and their fluctuation sources emerge from a single corrector field.

Additive-Functional Approach to Transport in Periodic and Tilted Periodic Potentials

In this Letter, we clarify the physical origin of effective transport in periodic and tilted periodic systems. When Brownian dynamics is examined on the scale of a single period, the particle displacement admits a natural separation into a bounded part associated with recurrent motion within the periodic landscape, and an unbounded stochastic part that grows in time and carries the net transport. We show that effective drift and diffusion are governed entirely by this unbounded component, while local potential-induced fluctuations contribute only bounded corrections. Treating the displacement as an additive functional of the stochastic dynamics provides a rigorous formulation of this separation and leads to a corrector-martingale representation at the trajectory level. Within this framework, classical results-including the Lifson-Jackson formula for unbiased periodic systems and the Stratonovich expressions for tilted periodic potentials-follow as direct consequences of the same underlying structure. The same perspective extends naturally to higher-dimensional periodic environments, recovering the standard homogenized transport tensors.

Effective diffusion of Brownian motion in spatially quasi-periodic noise

The effective diffusion of Brownian particles in periodic potential has been a central topic in nonequilibrium statistical physcis. A classical result is the Lifson formula which provides the effective diffusion constant in periodic potentials. Extending beyong periodicity, our recent work [arXiv:2504.16527] has demonstrated that a modified Lifson expression remains valid for Brownian motion in quasi-periodic potentials. In this work, we extend our previous results by incorporating spatial quasi-periodic noise and examining different stochastic interpretations, $α\in[0,1]$. The proposed framework is simple, computationally efficient, and unifies the treatment of diffusion in both periodic and quasi-periodic systems.

The Broad Wing of [O III] λ5007 Emission Line in Active Galactic Nuclei

We use a type 2 AGN sample from SDSS DR7 in which the [O III] λ5007 emission line can be modeled by two Gaussian components, a broad wing plus a narrow core, to investigate the origin of the broad wing and the connection between the velocity shift of the broad wing and the physical parameters of active galactic nuclei (AGNs) as well as their host galaxies. We find that the flux of the wing components is roughly equal to that of the core components in statistic. However, the velocity shift of the wing component has only weak, if any, correlations with the physical properties of AGNs and the host galaxies such as bolometric luminosity, the Eddington ratio, the mass of supermassive black holes, D4000, HδA or stellar mass. Comparing the velocity shift from our type 2 AGN sample to that from type 1 sample in Zhang et al. (2011), we suggest the [O III] broad wing originates from outflow.

The quasar SDSS J142507.32+323137.4 : dual AGNs?

We analyze the optical spectrum of type 1 QSO SDSS J1425+3231. This ob- ject is interesting since its narrow emission lines such as [O III]λλ4959, 5007 are double- peaked, and the line structure can be modeled well by three Gaussian components: two components for the two peaks (we refer the peaks at low/high redshift as "the blue/red component") and another one for the line wing which has the same line center as that of the blue component, but ~ 3 times broader. The separation between the blue and red components is ~ 500 km/s with blue component ~ 2 times broader than the red one. The Hβ emission can be separated into four components: two for the double-peaked narrow line and two for the broad line which comes from the broad line region (BLRs). The black hole mass estimated from the broad Hβ emission line using the typical reverberation map- ping relation is 0.85 \times 108M\odot, which is consistent with that derived from parameters of [O III]λ 5007 of the blue component. We suggest this QSO might be a dual AGN system, the broad Hβ emission line is mainly contributed by the primary black hole (traced by the blue component) while the broad Hβ component of the secondary black hole (traced by the red component) is hard to be separated out considering a resolution of ~2000 of SDSS spectra or it is totally obscured by the dusty torus.

The Circumnuclear Star-forming Activities along the Hubble Sequence

In order to study the circumnuclear star-forming activity along the Hubble sequence, we cross-correlate the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Data Release 2 (SDSS DR2) with the Third Reference Catalog of Bright Galaxies (RC3) to derive a large sample of 1015 galaxies with both morphological and spectral information. Among these, 385 sources are classified as star-forming galaxies and the SDSS fibre covered the circumnuclear regions (0.2 $-$ 2.0 kpc). By using the spectral synthesis method to remove the contribution from the underlying old stellar population, we measure the emission lines fluxes accurately which are then used to estimate the star formation rates(SFRs). Our main findings are that: (1) Early-type spirals show much larger H$α$ luminosities and hence higher SFRs, they also suffer more extinctions than late-type ones. The equivalent widths (EWs) of H$α$ emission lines show the similar trend, however, the very late types (Sdm $\sim$ Irr) do have large fractions of high EWs. (2) We confirm that D$_n(4000)$ has strong correlation with the strengthes of metallic absorption lines (such as CN band, G band and Mg Ib). Both these lines and the Balmer absorption lines show interesting variations between Sbc to Sd type galaxies. (3) The bar structure tightly relates with the enhanced star forming activity, this effect is even more significant in the early-type spirals. But we should note that the bar structure is not a necessary or sufficient condition for galaxies to harbor circumnuclear star formations.

IC 225: a dwarf elliptical galaxy with a peculiar blue core

We present the discovery of a peculiar blue core in the elliptical galaxy IC 225 by using images and spectrum from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). The outer parts of the surface brightness profiles of u-, g-, r-, i- and z-band SDSS images for IC 225 are well fitted with an exponential function. The fitting results show that IC 225 follows the same relations between the magnitude, scale length and central surface brightness for dwarf elliptical galaxies. Its absolute blue magnitude (M_B) is -17.14 mag, all of which suggest that IC 225 is a typical dwarf elliptical galaxy. The g-r color profile indicates a very blue core with a radius of 2 arcseconds, which is also clearly seen in the RGB image made of g-, r- and i-band SDSS images. The SDSS optical spectrum exhibits strong and very narrow nebular emission lines. The metal abundances derived by the standard methods, which are 12+log(O/H) = 8.98, log(N/O) = -0.77 and 12+log(S+/H+) = 6.76, turn out to be significantly higher than that predicted by the well-known luminosity-metallicity relation. After carefully inspecting the central region of IC 225, we find that there are two distinct nuclei, separated by 1.4 arcseconds, the off-nucleated one is even bluer than the nucleus of IC 225. The asymmetric line profiles of higher-order Balmer lines indicate that the emission lines are bluer shifted relative to the absorption lines, suggesting that the line emission arises from the off-center core, whose nature is a metal-rich Hii region. To the best of our knowledge, it is the first high-metallicity Hii region detected in a dwarf elliptical galaxy.
