Integral Hodge classes on fourfolds fiberd by quadric bundles

We discuss the space of sections and certain bisections on a quadric surfaces bundle $X$ over a smooth curve. The Abel-Jacobi from these spaces to the intermediate Jacobian will be shown to be dominant with rationally connected fibers. As an application, we prove that the integral Hodge conjecture holds for degree four integral Hodge classes of fourfolds fibered by quadric bundles over a smooth curve. This gives an alternative proof of a result of Colliot-Th{é}l{è}ne and Voisin.

Separable rational connectedness and stability

In this short note we prove that in many cases the failure of a variety to be separably rationally connected is caused by the instability of the tangent sheaf (if there are no other obvious reasons). A simple application of the results proves that a smooth Fano complete intersection is separably rationally connected if and only if it is separably uniruled. In particular, a general such Fano complete intersection is separably rationally connected.

R-equivalence on del Pezzo surfaces of degree 4 and cubic surfaces

We prove that there is a unique $R$-equivalence class on every del Pezzo surface of degree $4$ defined over the Laurent field $K=k((t))$ in one variable over an algebraically closed field $k$ of characteristic not equal to $2$ or $5$. We also prove that given a smooth cubic surface defined over $\mathbb{C}((t))$, if the induced morphism to the GIT compactification of smooth cubic surfaces lies in the stable locus (possibly after a base change), then there is a unique $R$-equivalence class.

Picard groups on moduli of K3 surfaces with Mukai models

We discuss the Picard group of moduli space $\mathcal{K}_g$ of quasi-polarized K3 surfaces of genus $g\leq 12$ and $g\neq 11$. In this range, $\mathcal{K}_g$ is unirational and a general element in $\mathcal{K}_g$ is a complete intersection with respect to a vector bundle on a homogenous space, by the work of Mukai. In this paper, we find generators of the Picard group $Pic_\mathbb{Q}(\mathcal{K}_g)$ using Noether-Lefschetz theory. This verifies the Noether-Lefschetz conjecture on moduli of K3 surfaces in these cases.

One Cycles on Rationally Connected Varieties

All curves on a separably rationally connected variety are rationally equivalent to a (non-effective) integral sum of rational curves, hence the first Chow group is generated by rational curves. Applying the same techniques, we also proved that the first Chow group of all separably rationally connected Fano complete intersections with index at least 2 is generated by lines. As a consequence, a question of Professor Burt Totaro about integral Hodge classess on rationally connected 3-folds is solved, and positive answer to the question for general n-fold due to Professor János Kollár will follow from the Tate conjecture for surfaces over finite fields.

Towards the symplectic Graber-Harris-Starr theorems

A theorem of Graber, Harris, and Starr states that a rationally connected fibration over a curve has a section. We study an analogous question in symplectic geometry. Namely, given a rationally connected fibration over a curve, can one find a section which gives a non-zero Gromov-Witten invariant? We observe that for any fibration, the existence of a section which gives a non-zero Gromov-Witten invariant only depends on the generic fiber, i.e. a variety defined over the function field of a curve. Some examples of rationally connected fibrations with this property are given, including all rational surface fibrations. We also prove some results, which says that in certain cases we can "lift" Gromov-Witten invariants of the base to the total space of a rationally connected fibration.

Some examples of symplectic rationally connected 4-folds

A symplectic manifold is called symplectic rationally connected if there is a non-zero genus zero Gromov-Witten invariant with two point insertions. It is conjectured that every smooth projective rationally connected variety is symplectic rationally connected. In this short note we give some examples of rationally connected 4-folds which are symplectic rationally connected. In particular, all Fano 4-folds of pseudo-index at least 2 are symplectic rationally connected. The proof does not use any explicit description of these varieties.

Symplectic geometry and rationally connected 4-folds

We study some symplectic geometric aspects of rationally connected 4-folds. As a corollary, we prove that any smooth projective 4-fold symplectic deformation equivalent to a Fano 4-fold of pseudo-index at least 2 or a rationally connected 4-fold whose second Betti number is 2 is rationally connected.

Symplectic geometry of rationally connected threefolds

We study symplectic geometry of rationally connected $3$-folds. The first result shows that rationally connectedness is a symplectic deformation invariant in dimension $3$. If a rationally connected $3$-fold $X$ is Fano or $b_2(X)=2$, we prove that it is symplectic rationally connected, i.e. there is a non-zero Gromov-Witten invariant with two insertions being the class of a point. Finally we prove that many rationally connected $3$-folds are birational to a symplectic rationally connected variety.
