Two-mode collapse and revival of quantum coherent state in a tilted optical lattice

Collective dynamics is an important out-of-equilibrium feature of quantum coherent states and usually reflects the intrinsic properties of the state. Collapse and revival (CR) dynamics of phase coherence is a well-known example for bosonic coherent states, which is usually induced by applying a quench. Previous studies have shown that the CR frequency is governed solely by interactions, even in the presence of a tilt quench. However, whether such interaction-dominated oscillation is a universal feature remains unknown. In this work, we show that an ensemble of one-dimensional bosons can undergo two-mode CR, with frequencies set by both the interaction and the tilt, particularly when the tilt is weaker than the interaction. The newly discovered tilt mode is enabled by tunneling between lattice sites. When the two modes coexist, the amplitudes of both modes exhibit universal linear scaling for various tilts. These findings clarify the general features of CR dynamics in tilted lattice models and the underlying mechanism, and provide deeper insight into collective dynamics in correlated systems.

Observation of a tripartite quantum phase for coexisting extended, localized, and critical states

The disordered quantum world hosts three fundamental types of states: extended, localized, and critical, of which the critical states are confined to fine-tuned critical points or mobility edges in randomly disordered systems. The tripartite phase, with all three types of states coexisting over finite spectral windows, represents a hallmark distinction between quasiperiodic and truly random systems in the localization physics. Here, we report the realization of this exotic phase in a quasi-periodically driven orbital optical lattice with ultracold atoms. The optical lattice with a quasiperiodic Floquet modulation coupling s and p orbitals is realized in experiment and shown to host the tripartite phase from exact theory. We develop a two-stage protocol to precisely prepare and detect the three types of quantum states. The characteristic exponents of these states are determined from expansion dynamics, showing their distinct universal transport properties. Our study marks a significant advancement in exploring unconventional critical phenomena and localization physics with ultracold atoms.

Experimental engineering of Floquet topological phases in a one-dimensional optical lattice

Periodic driving enables realization of topological phases without static counterparts. We experimentally realize and detect a one-dimensional anomalous Floquet topological phase in an optical lattice, using multi-frequency control to manipulate the relative sign structure of the gap windings $(W_0,W_π)$ associated with the $0$ and $π$ quasienergy gaps. We develop a lattice-depth modulation scheme that induces staggered nearest-neighbor $s$-$p$ orbital couplings and realize a minimal nontrivial Floquet topology under single-tone driving. Introducing a second tone, its relative phase controls the effective coupling signs in the $0$ and $π$ gaps, thereby tuning the corresponding windings to add and produce a high-winding phase or to cancel while retaining nontrivial gap indices. We read out $(W_0,W_π)$ with a band-inversion-surface (BIS)-resolved Ramsey protocol assisted by lattice-position shaking, which measures relative Floquet phases on the BISs. Controlled quenches further confirm phase-dependent band modifications even at quasimomenta far from resonance. These results establish multi-frequency control with a tunable relative phase as a quantitative route to engineering anomalous Floquet topology, and demonstrate phase-coherent coexistence of distinct drive modalities.

A Radio-Frequency Emitter Design for the Low-Frequency Regime in Atomic Experiments

Radio-frequency (RF) control is a key technique in cold atom experiments. We present a compact and efficient RF circuit based on a capacitive transformer network, where a low-frequency coil operating up to 30MHz serves as both an intrinsic inductor and a power-sharing element. The design enables high current delivery and flexible impedance matching across a wide frequency range. We integrate both broadband and narrowband RF networks into a unified configuration that overcomes the geometric constraints imposed by the metallic chamber. In evaporative cooling, the broadband network allows a reduction of the applied RF input power from 14.7dBW to -3.5dBW, owing to its non-zero coil current even at ultra-low frequencies. This feature enables the Bose-Fermi mixture to be cooled below 10μK. In a Landau-Zener protocol, the coil driven by the narrowband network transfers 80% of rubidium atoms from |F = 2,mF = 2> to |2,-2> in 1 millisecond, achieving a Rabi frequency of approximately 9 kHz at an input power of 0.1dBW.

Determination of dynamical quantum phase transition for boson systems using the Loschmidt cumulants method

We study the dynamical quantum phase transition(DQPT) of the Bose-Hubbard model utilizing recently developed Loschmidt cumulants method. We determine the complex Loschmidt zeros of the Loschmidt amplitude analogous to the Lee-Yang zeros of the thermal partition function. We obtain the DQPT critical points through identifying the crossing points with the imaginary axis. The critical points show high accuracy when compared to those obtained using the matrix product states method. In addition, we show that how the critical points of DQPT can be determined by analyzing the energy fluctuation of the initial state, making it a valuable tool for future studies in this area. Finally, DQPT in the extended Bose-Hubbaed model is also investigated.

Observation of 2D Mott insulator and $π$-superfluid quantum phase transition in shaking optical lattice

The Mott insulator and superfluid phase transition is one of the most prominent phenomena in ultracold atoms. In this work, we report the observation of a novel 2D quantum phase transition between Mott insulator and $π$ superfluid in a shaking optical lattice. In the deep optical lattice regime, the lowest $s$-band can be tuned to Mott phase, while the higher $p_{x,y}$ bands are itinerant for having larger bandwidth. Through a shaking technique coupling the $s$ orbital to $p_{x,y}$ orbital states, we experimentally observe the transition between the states of the $s$ and $p_{x,y}$ bands, leading to a quantum phase transition from 2D $s$-orbital Mott phase to the $p_{x,y}$-orbital superfluid which condensed at $(π,π)$ momentum.
