The monochromatic X-rays facilities at NIM

Space scientific exploration is becoming the main battlefield for mankind to explore the universe. Countries around the world have successively launched various space exploration satellites. Accurate calibration on the ground is a key factor for space science satellites to obtain observational results. In order to provide calibration for various satellite-borne detectors, several monochromatic X-rays facilities has been built at National Institute of Metrology, P.R. China (NIM). These facilities are mainly based on grating diffraction and Bragg diffraction, the energy range of produced monochromatic X-rays is (0.218-301) keV. The facilities have a good performance on energy stability, monochromaticity and flux stability. Monochromaticity of all facilities is better than 3.0%, the stability of energy is better than 1.0% over 8 hours, and the stability of flux is better than 2.0% over 8 hours. The calibration experiments of satellite-borne detectors, such as energy linearity, energy resolution, detection efficiency and temperature response can be carried out on the facilities. So far we have completed the calibration of two satellites, and there are still three satellites in progress. This work will contribute to the development of X-ray astronomy, and contribute to the development of Chinese space science.

Robust MIMO Radar Waveform-Filter Design for Extended Target Detection in the Presence of Multipath

The existence of multipath brings extra "looks" of targets. This paper considers the extended target detection problem with a narrow band Multiple-Input Multiple-Output(MIMO) radar in the presence of multipath from the view of waveform-filter design. The goal is to maximize the worst-case Signal-to-Interference-pulse-Noise Ratio(SINR) at the receiver against the uncertainties of the target and multipath reflection coefficients. Moreover, a Constant Modulus Constraint(CMC) is imposed on the transmit waveform to meet the actual demands of radar. Two types of uncertainty sets are taken into consideration. One is the spherical uncertainty set. In this case, the max-min waveform-filter design problem belongs to the non-convex concave minimax problems, and the inner minimization problem is converted to a maximization problem based on Lagrange duality with the strong duality property. Then the optimal waveform is optimized with Semi-Definite Relaxation(SDR) and randomization schemes. Therefore, we call the optimization algorithm Duality Maximization Semi-Definite Relaxation(DMSDR). Additionally, we further study the case of annular uncertainty set which belongs to non-convex non-concave minimax problems. In order to address it, the SDR is utilized to approximate the inner minimization problem with a convex problem, then the inner minimization problem is reformulated as a maximization problem based on Lagrange duality. We resort to a sequential optimization procedure alternating between two SDR problems to optimize the covariance matrix of transmit waveform and receive filter, so we call the algorithm Duality Maximization Double Semi-Definite Relaxation(DMDSDR). The convergences of DMDSDR are proved theoretically. Finally, numerical results highlight the effectiveness and competitiveness of the proposed algorithms as well as the optimized waveform-filter pair.

STAN: Towards Describing Bytecodes of Smart Contract

More than eight million smart contracts have been deployed into Ethereum, which is the most popular blockchain that supports smart contract. However, less than 1% of deployed smart contracts are open-source, and it is difficult for users to understand the functionality and internal mechanism of those closed-source contracts. Although a few decompilers for smart contracts have been recently proposed, it is still not easy for users to grasp the semantic information of the contract, not to mention the potential misleading due to decompilation errors. In this paper, we propose the first system named STAN to generate descriptions for the bytecodes of smart contracts to help users comprehend them. In particular, for each interface in a smart contract, STAN can generate four categories of descriptions, including functionality description, usage description, behavior description, and payment description, by leveraging symbolic execution and NLP (Natural Language Processing) techniques. Extensive experiments show that STAN can generate adequate, accurate, and readable descriptions for contract's bytecodes, which have practical value for users.

Noisy-As-Clean: Learning Self-supervised Denoising from the Corrupted Image

Supervised deep networks have achieved promisingperformance on image denoising, by learning image priors andnoise statistics on plenty pairs of noisy and clean images. Unsupervised denoising networks are trained with only noisy images. However, for an unseen corrupted image, both supervised andunsupervised networks ignore either its particular image prior, the noise statistics, or both. That is, the networks learned from external images inherently suffer from a domain gap problem: the image priors and noise statistics are very different between the training and test images. This problem becomes more clear when dealing with the signal dependent realistic noise. To circumvent this problem, in this work, we propose a novel "Noisy-As-Clean" (NAC) strategy of training self-supervised denoising networks. Specifically, the corrupted test image is directly taken as the "clean" target, while the inputs are synthetic images consisted of this corrupted image and a second and similar corruption. A simple but useful observation on our NAC is: as long as the noise is weak, it is feasible to learn a self-supervised network only with the corrupted image, approximating the optimal parameters of a supervised network learned with pairs of noisy and clean images. Experiments on synthetic and realistic noise removal demonstrate that, the DnCNN and ResNet networks trained with our self-supervised NAC strategy achieve comparable or better performance than the original ones and previous supervised/unsupervised/self-supervised networks. The code is publicly available at https://github.com/csjunxu/Noisy-As-Clean.

Feature Location Benchmark for Decomposing and Reusing Android Apps

Software reuse enables developers to reuse architecture, programs and other software artifacts. Realizing a systematical reuse in software brings a large amount of benefits for stakeholders, including lower maintenance efforts, lower development costs, and time to market. Unfortunately, currently implementing a framework for large-scale software reuse in Android apps is still a huge problem, regarding the complexity of the task and lacking of practical technical support from either tools or domain experts. Therefore, proposing a feature location benchmark for apps will help developers either optimize their feature location techniques or reuse the assets created in the benchmark for reusing. In this paper, we release a feature location benchmark, which can be used for those developers, who intend to compose software product lines (SPL) and release reuse in apps. The benchmark not only contributes to the research community for reuse research, but also helps participants in industry for optimizing their architecture and enhancing modularity. In addition, we also develop an Android Studio plugin named caIDE for developers to view and operate on the benchmark.

Effects of initial telomere length distribution on senescence onset and heterogeneity

Replicative senescence, induced by telomere shortening, exhibits considerable asynchrony and heterogeneity, the origins of which remain unclear. Here, we formally study how telomere shortening mechanisms impact on senescence kinetics and define two regimes of senescence, depending on the initial telomere length variance. We provide analytical solutions to the model, highlighting a non-linear relationship between senescence onset and initial telomere length distribution. This study reveals the complexity of the collective behavior of telomeres as they shorten, leading to senescence heterogeneity.

Optical Variability and Colour Behaviour of 3C 345

The colour behaviour of blazars is a subject of much debate. One argument is that the BL Lac objects show bluer-when-brighter chromatism while the flat-spectrum radio quasars (FSRQs) display redder-when-brighter trend. Base on a 3.5-year three-colour monitoring programme, we studied the optical variability and colour behaviour of one FSRQ, 3C 345. There is at least one outburst in this period. The overall variation amplitude is 2.640 mags in the $i$ band. Intra-night variability was observed on two nights. The bluer-when-brighter and redder-when-brighter chromatisms were simultaneously observed in this object when using different pairs of passbands to compute the colours. The bluer-when-brighter chromatism is a shared property with the BL Lacs, while the redder-when-brighter trend is likely due to two less variable emission features, the Mg\,{\sc ii} line and the blue bump, at short wavelengths. With numerical simulations, we show that some other strong but less variable emission lines in the spectrum of FSRQs may also significantly alter their colour behaviour. Then the colour behaviour of an FSRQ is linked not only to the emission process in the relativistic jet, but also to the redshift, the passbands used for computing the colour and the strengths of the less variable emission features relative to the strength of the non-thermal continuum.
