Propagation Structure-Semantic Transfer Learning for Robust Fake News Detection

Fake news generally refers to false information that is spread deliberately to deceive people, which has detrimental social effects. Existing fake news detection methods primarily learn the semantic features from news content or integrate structural features from propagation. However, in practical scenarios, due to the semantic ambiguity of informal language and unreliable user interactive behaviors on social media, there are inherent semantic and structural noises in news content and propagation. Although some recent works consider the effect of irrelevant user interactions in a hybrid-modeling way, they still suffer from the mutual interference between structural noise and semantic noise, leading to limited performance for robust detection. To alleviate this issue, this paper proposes a novel Propagation Structure-Semantic Transfer Learning framework (PSS-TL) for robust fake news detection under a teacher-student architecture. Specifically, we design dual teacher models to learn semantics knowledge and structure knowledge from noisy news content and propagation structure independently. Besides, we design a Multi-channel Knowledge Distillation (MKD) loss to enable the student model to acquire specialized knowledge from the teacher models, thereby avoiding mutual interference. Extensive experiments on two real-world datasets validate the effectiveness and robustness of our method.

Long-range orbital transport and inverse orbital Hall effect in Co/Ru-based terahertz emitters

The utilization of terahertz (THz) emission spectroscopy in femtosecond photoexcited spintronic heterostructures has emerged as a versatile tool for investigating ultrafast spin-transport in a noncontact and non-invasive manner. However, the investigation of ultrafast orbital-transport is still in the primitive stage. Here, we experimentally demonstrate the orbital-to-charge current conversion in Co/Ru heterostructures. Time-domain measurements reveal delayed and broadened terahertz waveforms with increasing Ru thickness, consistent with long-range orbital transport. In Co/Pt/Ru trilayers, the terahertz emission is further enhanced through constructive interference between the inverse spin Hall effect (ISHE) in Pt and inverse orbital Hall effect (IOHE) in Ru, while reversed stack structures show suppressed output. Ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) measurements reveal a strong correlation between damping and THz amplitude, highlighting efficient angular momentum conversion. These results position Co/Ru as a promising orbitronic platform for tunable ultrafast THz emission. Our results not only strengthen the physical mechanism of condensed matter physics but also pave the way for designing promising spin-orbitronic devices and terahertz emitters.

MODA: MOdular Duplex Attention for Multimodal Perception, Cognition, and Emotion Understanding

Multimodal large language models (MLLMs) recently showed strong capacity in integrating data among multiple modalities, empowered by a generalizable attention architecture. Advanced methods predominantly focus on language-centric tuning while less exploring multimodal tokens mixed through attention, posing challenges in high-level tasks that require fine-grained cognition and emotion understanding. In this work, we identify the attention deficit disorder problem in multimodal learning, caused by inconsistent cross-modal attention and layer-by-layer decayed attention activation. To address this, we propose a novel attention mechanism, termed MOdular Duplex Attention (MODA), simultaneously conducting the inner-modal refinement and inter-modal interaction. MODA employs a correct-after-align strategy to effectively decouple modality alignment from cross-layer token mixing. In the alignment phase, tokens are mapped to duplex modality spaces based on the basis vectors, enabling the interaction between visual and language modality. Further, the correctness of attention scores is ensured through adaptive masked attention, which enhances the model's flexibility by allowing customizable masking patterns for different modalities. Extensive experiments on 21 benchmark datasets verify the effectiveness of MODA in perception, cognition, and emotion tasks. Source code and demo are available in https://zzcheng.top/MODA.

Commissioning of a radiofrequency quadrupole cooler-buncher for collinear laser spectroscopy

A RadioFrequency Quadrupole (RFQ) cooler-buncher system has been developed and implemented in a collinear laser spectroscopy setup. This system is dedicated to convert a continuous ion beam into short bunches, while enhancing beam quality and reducing energy spread. The functionality of the RFQ cooler-buncher has been verified through offline tests with stable rubidium and indium beam, delivered from a surface ion source and a laser ablation ion source, respectively. With a transmission efficiency exceeding 60\%, bunched ion beams with a full width at half maximum of approximately 2~$\mu$s in the time-of-flight spectrum have been successfully achieved. The implementation of the RFQ cooler-buncher system also significantly improves the overall transmission efficiency of the collinear laser spectroscopy setup.
