$\sin (ϕ_Λ-ϕ_S)$ azimuthal asymmetry in transversely polarized $Λ$ production in SIDIS within TMD factorization at EIC

We investigate the $\sin (ϕ_Λ-ϕ_S)$ single-spin asymmetry in the transversely polarized $Λ$ production in semi-inclusive deeply inelastic scattering process within the framework of the transverse momentum dependent~(TMD) factorization. The asymmetry is contributed by the convolution of the polarizing TMD fragmentation function $D_{1T}^\perp$ of the $Λ$ hyperon and the unpolarized TMD distribution function $f_1$ of the target nucleon. We apply two sets of $D_{1T}^{\perp,Λ^\uparrow/q}$, the spectator diquark model result and available parametrization, to numerically estimate the $\sin (ϕ_Λ-ϕ_S)$ asymmetry at the kinematical region of electron ion collider (EIC). We take into account the TMD evolution effect in order to include the scale dependence of the TMD distribution functions and fragmentation functions. It is found that different sets of $D_{1T}^{\perp,Λ^\uparrow/q}$ lead to different ${\sin (ϕ_Λ-ϕ_S)}$ asymmetry, particularly in sign. Future measurements on the $\sin (ϕ_Λ-ϕ_S)$ asymmetry with high precision at EIC can provide important cross check on the available $Λ$ polarizing fragmentation functions as well as constrain them more stringently.

The transverse polarization of $Λ$ hyperons in $e^+e^-\toΛ^\uparrow h X$ processes within TMD factorization

We investigate the transverse polarization of the $Λ$ hyperon in the processes $e^+e^-\toΛ^\uparrow π^\pm X$ and $e^+e^-\toΛ^\uparrow K^\pm X$ within the framework of the transverse momentum dependent~(TMD) factorization. The transverse polarization is contributed by the convolution of the transversely polarizing fragmentation function~(PFF) $D_{1T}^\perp$ of the lambda hyperon and the unpolarized fragmentation function $D_1$ of pion/kaon. We adopt the spectator diquark model result for $D_{1T}^{\perp}$ to numerically estimate the transverse polarization in $e^+e^-\toΛ^\uparrow h X$ process at the kinematical region of Belle Collaboration. To implement the TMD evolution formalism of the fragmentation functions, we apply two different parametrizations on the nonperturbative Sudakov form factors associated with the fragmentation functions of the $Λ$, pion and kaon. It is found that our prediction on the polarization in the $Λπ^+$ production and $\barΛ π^-$ is consistent with the recent Belle measurement in size and sign, while the model predictions on the polarizations in $Λπ^-$ and $ΛK^\pm$ productions show strong disagreement with the Belle data. The reason for the discrepancies is discussed and possible approaches to improve the calculation in the future are also discussed.

Weighted $\sin\left(3ϕ_h -ϕ_S\right)$ asymmetry from pretzelosity in SIDIS at electron ion colliders

We investigate the transverse momentum weighted azimuthal asymmetry with a $\sin\left(3ϕ_h -ϕ_S\right)$ modulation in electroproduction of charged pion production off the transversely polarized proton. The asymmetry is contributed by the product of the second transverse-moment of the pretzelosity distribution function and the first transverse-moment of the Collins function. Using the extracted result for the proton pretzelosity and the available parametrization for the pion Collins function, we numerically predict the $P_{hT}^3$-weighted $\sin\left(3ϕ_h -ϕ_S\right)$ asymmetry for charged pion production at electron ion colliders (EICs). It is found that the weighted asymmetry is around 2 percent in the kinematics region of EICs. Our results show that the planned high luminosity electron ion colliders could be feasible to access pretzelosity in the near future.

Predicting the $\sinϕ_S$ Single-Spin-Asymmetry of $Λ$ Production off transversely polarized nucleon in SIDIS

We investigate the transverse target spin asymmetry $A^{\sinϕ_{S}}_{UT}$ for the unpolarized $Λ$ production in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering with the transverse momentum of the final-state lambda hyperon being integrated out. The asymmetry is contributed by the product of the transversity distribution function $h_1(x)$ of the nucleon and the collinear twist-3 fragmentation function $\tilde{H}(z)$ of the $Λ$ hyperon. The later one originates from the quark-gluon-quark correlation and is a naive time-reversal-odd function. We calculate $\tilde{H}$ of the $Λ$ hyperon by adopt a diquark spectator model. Using the numerical result of $\tilde{H}(z)$ and the available parametrization of $h_1(x)$ from SIDIS data, we predict the $\sinϕ_{S}$ asymmetry in the electroproduction of the $Λ$ hyperon in the kinematical region of EIC, EicC and COMPASS. In the phenomenological analysis we include the evolution effect of the distribution functions and the fragmentation functions. The results show that the asymmetries for the $Λ$ production SIDIS process is around 0.1 and may be accessible at EIC, EicC and COMPASS. We also find that the evolution of fragmentation function can affect the size of asymmetry.

The Collins asymmetry in electroproduction of Kaon at the electron ion colliders within TMD factorization

We apply the transverse momentum dependent factorization formalism to investigate the transverse single spin dependent Collins asymmetry with a $\sin(ϕ_h+ϕ_s)$ modulation in the semi-inclusive production of Kaon meson in deep inelastic scattering process. The asymmetry is contributed by the convolutions of the transversity distribution function $h_1(x)$ of the target proton and the Collins function of the Kaon in the final state. We adopt the available parametrization of $h_1(x)$ as well as the recent extracted result for the Kaon Collins function. To perform the transverse momentum dependent evolution, the parametrization of the nonperturbative Sudakov form factor of the proton and final state Kaon are utilized. We numerically predict the Collins asymmetry for charged Kaon production at the electron ion colliders within the accuracy of next-to-leading-logarithmic order. It is found that the asymmetry is sizable and could be measured. We emphasize the importance of planned electron ion colliders in the aspect of constraining sea quark distribution functions as well as accessing the information of the nucleon spin structure and the hadronization mechanism.

Quasi parton distribution function and quasi generalized parton distribution of the pion meson in a spectator model

We study the leading-twist quasi parton distribution function (quasi-PDF) and quasi generalize parton distribution (quasi-GPD) of the pion meson by using a spectator model. We consider the case the quasi functions are defined via inserting the matrix $γ^3$ in the spacial correlation functions. We obtain the analytical expressions for the quasi-PDF and quasi-GPD. The numerical results for them are calculated from the parameters obtained by fitting the model results to the known parametrization. Particularly, we investigate the hadron momentum dependence of the quasi functions as well as compare the quasi distributions to the standard functions at different hadron momentum. We find that in the region $x>0.2$, the quasi distribution are similar to the standard distributions in size and shape when the hadron momentum is larger than $2$ GeV. Our study thus supports the idea of using quasi distributions to obtain standard distributions.

The cos$ϕ_R$ asymmetry of dihadron production in double longitudinally polarized SIDIS

We present a study on the double longitudinal-spin asymmetry of dihadron production in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering, in which the total transverse momentum of the final-state hadron pairs is integrated out. In particular, we investigate the origin of the $\cosϕ_R$ azimuthal asymmetry for which we take into account the coupling of the helicity distribution $g_1$ and the twist-3 dihadron fragmentation function $\widetilde{D}^{\sphericalangle}$. We calculate the $s$-wave and $p$-wave interference term $\widetilde{D}^{\sphericalangle}_{ot}$ in a spectator model. We estimate the $\cosϕ_R$ asymmetry at the kinematics of COMPASS which is collecting data on dihadron production in polarized deep inelastic scattering. The prediction of the same asymmetry at JLab 12GeV and a future EIC are also presented. Our study indicates that measuring the $\cosϕ_R$ asymmetry in SIDIS may be a ideal way to probe the dihadron fragmentation function $\widetilde{D}^{\sphericalangle}$.

The $\sin (2ϕ-ϕ_S)$ azimuthal asymmetry in the pion induced Drell-Yan process within TMD factorization

We investigate the single transverse-spin asymmetry with a $\sin (2ϕ-ϕ_S)$ modulation in the pion-induced Drell-Yan process within the theoretical framework of the transverse momentum dependent factorization. The asymmetry is contributed by the convolution of the Boer-Mulders function and the transversity. We adopt the model results for the distributions of the pion meson from the light-cone wavefunction approach and the available parametrization for the distributions of the proton to numerically estimate the $\sin (2ϕ-ϕ_S)$ asymmetry in $π^- p$ Drell-Yan at the kinematics of the COMPASS at CERN. To implement the TMD evolution formalism of parton distribution functions, we apply the recently extracted nonperturbative Sudakov form factor associated with the distribution functions of the proton and the pion. It is found that our prediction on the single transverse-spin dependent asymmetry ${\sin (2ϕ-ϕ_S)}$ as functions of $x_p$, $x_π$, $x_F$ and $q_\perp$ is qualitatively consistent with the recent COMPASS measurement in both sign and magnitude.

Single-spin asymmetry in dihadron production in SIDIS off the longitudinally polarized nucleon target

We study the single longitudinal-spin asymmetry of dihadron production in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering process. We consider the collinear picture in which the transverse momentum of the final-state hadron pair is integrated out, such that the $\sin ϕ_R$ azimuthal asymmetry arises from the coupling $h_L\, H_{1}^{\sphericalangle}$ as well as the coupling $g_1 \,\widetilde{G}^{\sphericalangle}$. We calculate the unknown twist-3 dihadron fragmentation function $\widetilde{G}^{\sphericalangle}$ using a spectator model which is successful in describing the dihadron production in the unpolarized process. Using the spectator model results for the quark distributions and dihadron fragmentation functions, we estimate the $\sin ϕ_R$ asymmetry of dihadron production in SIDIS at the kinematics of COMPASS and compare it with the COMPASS preliminary data. In addition, the prediction on the $\sin ϕ_R$ asymmetry at the typical kinematics of the future Electron Ion Collider is also presented. In order to test the reliability of the spectator model estimate, we compare the model result for the distribution $h_L$ with the Wandzura-Wilczek approximation for that distribution, and compare $H_{1}^{\sphericalangle}$ with the existing parametrization. Although the asymmetry is dominated by the $h_L H_{1}^{\sphericalangle}$ term, we find that the contribution from the $g_1\, \widetilde{G}^{\sphericalangle}$ term should also be taken into account in certain kinematical region.

$π-N$ Drell-Yan process in TMD factorization

This article presents the review of the current understanding on the pion-nucleon Drell-Yan process from the point of view of the TMD factorization. Using the evolution formalism for the unpolarized and polarized TMD distributions developed recently, we provide the theoretical expression of the relevant physical observables, namely, the unpolarized cross section, the Sivers asymmetry, and the $\cos2ϕ$ asymmetry contributed by the double Boer-Mulders effects. The corresponding phenomenology, particularly at the kinematical configuration of the COMPASS $πN$ Drell-Yan facility, is displayed numerically.

The electromagnetic form factors of $Λ$ hyperon in the vector meson dominance model

We perform an analysis on the electromagnetic form factors of the $Λ$ hyperon in the time-like reaction $e^+e^-\rightarrow Λ\barΛ$ by using a modified vector meson dominance model. We consider both the intrinsic structure components and the meson clouds components. For the latter one, we not only include the contributions from the $ϕ$ and $ω$ mesons, but also take into account the contributions from the resonance states $ω(1420)$, $ω(1650)$, $ϕ(1680)$ and $ϕ(2170)$. We extract the model parameters by combined fit to the time-like effective form factor $|G_{\rm{eff}}|$, the electromagnetic form factor ratio $|G_E/G_M|$ and the relative phase $ΔΦ$ of the $Λ$ hyperon from the BaBar and BESIII Collaborations. We find that the vector meson dominance model can simultaneously describe these observables. Particularly, the inclusion of the resonance states in the model is necessary for explaining the ratio $|G_E/G_M|$ in a wide range of $\sqrt{s}$ as well as the large phase angle. With the fitted parameters, we predict the single and double polarization observables, which could be measured in polarized annihilation reactions. Moreover, we analytically continue the expression of the form factors to space-like region and estimate the space-like form factors of $Λ$ hyperon.

Single Spin Asymmetry in transverse polarized proton production and lambda production in Semi-Inclusive DIS at twist-3

We study the single spin asymmetry in the transversely polarized proton production and the lambda hyperon production in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering with a $\sin ϕ_{S_h}$ modulation, in which $S_h$ is the azimuthal angle of the transverse spin of the final hadron. The theoretical interpretation for the asymmetry is presented as the convolution of the twist-3 quark transverse momentum dependent distributions and twist-2 fragmentation functions. We investigate the role of the twist-3 distribution functions $h(x, p_T^2)$, $f^\perp(x, p_T^2)$ and $g^\perp(x, p_T^2)$ and the twist-2 fragmentation functions $H_1(x, k_T^2)$, $D_{1T}^\perp(x, k_T^2)$ and $G_{1T}(x, k_T^2)$ in this asymmetry. Using spectator model, we compute these distribution and fragmentation functions and estimate the $\sin ϕ_{S_h}$ asymmetry for the proton production as well as for the lambda production at JLab with a 12 $\mathrm{GeV}$ electron beam. The asymmetry at the COMPASS kinematics is also predicted. By comparing different sources for the asymmetry, we conclude that it is feasible to access the distribution function $h$ and the fragmentation function $H_1$ through measuring the asymmetry in the proton production, whereas the $f^\perp \,D_{1T}^\perp$ term might be probed in the lambda production at JLab 12 GeV.

Quark Wigner distribution of the pion meson in light-cone quark model

We study the quark Wigner distributions of the pion meson which are the phase-space distributions containing the most general one-parton information.Using the pion wavefunctions deduced from a light-cone quark model, we calculate the Wigner distributions of the unpolarized, longitudinally polarized and transversely polarized quarks inside the pion meson via the Fock-state overlap representation, respectively. We present the numerical results of the transverse Wigner distributions in which the longitudinal momentum fraction is integrated out. The mixed Wigner distributions as functions of $b_y$ and $k_x$ are also presented. As a intermediate step, we provide the analytic results for the generalized transverse momentum dependent distributions of the pion meson in the same model.

Sivers Asymmetry in the pion induced Drell-Yan process at COMPASS within TMD factorization

We investigate the Sivers asymmetry in the pion-induced single polarized Drell-Yan process in the theoretical framework of the transverse momentum dependent factorization up to next-to-leading logarithmic order of QCD. Within the TMD evolution formalism of parton distribution functions, the recently extracted nonperturbative Sudakov form factor for the pion distribution functions as well as the one for the Sivers function of the proton are applied to numerically estimate the Sivers asymmetry in the $π^- p$ Drell-Yan at the kinematics of the COMPASS at CERN. In the low $b$ region, the Sivers function in $b$-space can be expressed as the convolution of the perturbatively calculable hard coefficients and the corresponding collinear correlation function, of which the Qiu-Sterman function is the most relevant one. The effect of the energy-scale dependence of the Qiu-Sterman function to the asymmetry is also studied. We find that our prediction on the Sivers asymmetries as functions of $x_p$, $x_π$, $x_F$ and $q_\perp$ is consistent with the recent COMPASS measurement.

Boer-Mulders effect in the unpolarized pion induced Drell-Yan process at COMPASS within TMD factorization

We investigate the theoretical framework of the $\cos 2ϕ$ azimuthal asymmetry contributed by the coupling of two Boer-Mulders functions in the dilepton production unpolarized $πp$ Drell-Yan process by applying the transverse momentum dependent factorization at leading order. We adopt the model calculation results of the unpolarized distribution function $f_1$ and Boer-Mulders function $h_1^\perp$ of pion meson from the light-cone wave functions. We take into account the transverse momentum evolution effects for both the distribution functions of pion and proton by adopting the existed extraction of the nonperturbative Sudakov form factor for the pion and proton distribution functions. An approximate kernel is included to deal with the energy dependence of the Boer-Mulders function related twist-3 correlation function $T_{q,F}^{(σ)}(x,x)$ needed in the calculation. We numerically estimate the Boer-Mulders asymmetry $ν_{BM}$ as the functions of $x_p$, $x_π$, $x_F$ and $q_T$ considering the kinematics at COMPASS Collaboration.

Double Collins effect in $e^+ e^-\toΛ\barΛX$ process in a diquark spectator model

We study the Collins function $H^\perp_{1}$ of the $Λ$ hyperon, which describes the fragmentation of a transversely polarized quark into an unpolarized $Λ$ hyperon. We calculate $H^\perp_{1}$ for light quarks of the $Λ$ hyperon, in the diquark spectator model with a Gaussian form factor for the hyperon-quark-diquark vertex. The model calculation includes contributions from both the scalar diquark and vector diquark spectators. Using the model result, we estimate the weighted $\cos2ϕ_0$ asymmetry in the process $e^+e^- \to Λ\barΛX$ contributed by the coupling of two Collins functions. The QCD evolution effects for the first $k_T$-moment of the Collins function and the unpolarized fragmentation function $D_1(z)$ are also included. The results show that asymmetry is sizable and measurable at the kinematical configurations of Belle and BaBar experiments. We also find that the evolution effects play an important role in the phenomenological analysis.

The electromagnetic form factors of $Λ$ hyperon in $e^+e^-\rightarrow \barΛΛ$

We study the electromagnetic form factors of $Λ$ hyperon in the timelike region using the recent experimental data in the exclusive production of $\barΛ Λ$ pair in electron-position annihilation. We present a pQCD inspired parametrization of $G_E(s)$ and $G_M(s)$ with only two parameters, and we consider a suppression mechanism of the electric form factor $G_E(s)$ compared to the magnetic form factor $G_M(s)$. The parameters are determined through fitting our parametrization to the effective form factor data in the reaction $e^+e^-\rightarrow \barΛΛ$. Except the threshold region, our parametrization can reproduce satisfactorily the known behavior of the existing data from the BarBar, DM2 and BESIII Collaborations. We also predict the double spin polarization observables $A_{xx}$, $A_{yy}$ and $A_{zz}$ in $e^+e^-\rightarrow \barΛΛ$.

Transverse momentum spectrum of dilepton pair in the unpolarized $π^-N$ Drell-Yan process within TMD factorization

We study the transverse momentum spectrum of dilepton produced in the unpolarized $π^- N$ Drell-Yan process, using transverse momentum dependent factorization up to next-to-logarithmic order of QCD. We extract the nonperturbative Sudakov form factor for the pion in the evolution formalism of the unpolarized TMD distribution function, by fitting the experimental data collected by the E615 Collaboration at Fermilab. With the extracted Sudakov factor, we calculate the normalized differential cross section with respect to transverse momentum of the dimuon and compare it with the recent measurement by the COMPASS Collaboration.
