TherAIssist: Assisting Art Therapy Homework and Client-Practitioner Collaboration through Human-AI Interaction

Art therapy homework is essential for fostering clients' reflection on daily experiences between sessions. However, current practices present challenges: clients often lack guidance for completing tasks that combine art-making and verbal expression, while therapists find it difficult to track and tailor homework. How HCI systems might support art therapy homework remains underexplored. To address this, we present TherAIssist, comprising a client-facing application leveraging human-AI co-creative art-making and conversational agents to facilitate homework, and a therapist-facing application enabling customization of homework agents and AI-compiled homework history. A 30-day field study with 24 clients and 5 therapists showed how TherAIssist supported clients' homework and reflection in their everyday settings. Results also revealed how therapists infused their practice principles and personal touch into the agents to offer tailored homework, and how AI-compiled homework history became a meaningful resource for in-session interactions. Implications for designing human-AI systems to facilitate asynchronous client-practitioner collaboration are discussed.

Infinity-MM: Scaling Multimodal Performance with Large-Scale and High-Quality Instruction Data

Recently, Vision-Language Models (VLMs) have achieved remarkable progress in multimodal tasks, and multimodal instruction data serves as the foundation for enhancing VLM capabilities. Despite the availability of several open-source multimodal datasets, limitations in the scale and quality of open-source instruction data hinder the performance of VLMs trained on these datasets, leading to a significant gap compared to models trained on closed-source data. To address this challenge, we introduce Infinity-MM, a large-scale multimodal instruction dataset. We collected the available multimodal instruction datasets and performed unified preprocessing, resulting in a dataset with over 40 million samples that ensures diversity and accuracy. Furthermore, to enable large-scale expansion of instruction data and support the continuous acquisition of high-quality data, we propose a synthetic instruction generation method based on a tagging system and open-source VLMs. By establishing correspondences between different types of images and associated instruction types, this method can provide essential guidance during data synthesis. Leveraging this high-quality data, we have trained a 2-billion-parameter Vision-Language Model, Aquila-VL-2B, which achieves state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance among models of similar scale. Exploring the Potential of Flexible 8-bit Format: Design and Algorithm

Neural network quantization is widely used to reduce model inference complexity in real-world deployments. However, traditional integer quantization suffers from accuracy degradation when adapting to various dynamic ranges. Recent research has focused on a new 8-bit format, FP8, with hardware support for both training and inference of neural networks but lacks guidance for hardware design. In this paper, we analyze the benefits of using FP8 quantization and provide a comprehensive comparison of FP8 with INT quantization. Then we propose a flexible mixed-precision quantization framework that supports various number systems, enabling optimal selection of the most appropriate quantization format for different neural network architectures. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed framework achieves competitive performance compared to full precision on various tasks, including image classification, object detection, segmentation, and natural language understanding. Our work furnishes critical insights into the tangible benefits and feasibility of employing FP8 quantization, paving the way for heightened neural network efficiency in tangible scenarios. Our code is available in the supplementary material.

Two-stream Convolutional Networks for Multi-frame Face Anti-spoofing

Face anti-spoofing is an important task to protect the security of face recognition. Most of previous work either struggle to capture discriminative and generalizable feature or rely on auxiliary information which is unavailable for most of industrial product. Inspired by the video classification work, we propose an efficient two-stream model to capture the key differences between live and spoof faces, which takes multi-frames and RGB difference as input respectively. Feature pyramid modules with two opposite fusion directions and pyramid pooling modules are applied to enhance feature representation. We evaluate the proposed method on the datasets of Siw, Oulu-NPU, CASIA-MFSD and Replay-Attack. The results show that our model achieves the state-of-the-art results on most of datasets' protocol with much less parameter size.
