Bona: Automatic Management of Dirty Ancilla Borrowing in Quantum Circuits

The management of ancilla qubits has become a critical technique for reducing quantum circuit width. Dirty ancillas, which may be borrowed from any temporarily idle qubit regardless of their initial states, offer substantial flexibility for width optimization, but their use has so far required manual and error-prone handling. We formalize the dirty-qubit borrowing problem and establish a fundamental computational limit by proving its NP-hardness. To support practical optimization, we present \bona, the first scheduler for dirty-qubit borrowing, built on a novel depth-aware heuristic algorithm. We evaluate \bona~ across a variety of benchmarks, including practical quantum circuits and randomly arranged compositions of real circuit modules, and find that it reduces nearly 99\% of dirty ancillas on average with controlled depth overhead. In particular, for parallel quantum walk---an essential component of parallel Hamiltonian simulation---\bona~ matches the circuit width achieved by the clean-qubit schemes of \citeauthor{jiang2024recycling}~(\citeyear{jiang2024recycling}) and \citeauthor{quantinuum}~(\citeyear{quantinuum}), but attains significantly smaller circuit depth, providing concrete evidence that dirty ancillas offer unique optimization advantages in circuits with certain parallelism.

Measurements of electronic band structure in CeCoGe$_3$ by angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy

We report a comprehensive study of the electronic structure of CeCoGe$_3$ throughout the entire Brillouin zone in the non-magnetic regime using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). The electronic structure agrees in large part with first principles calculations, including predicted topological nodal lines. Two new features in the band structure are also observed: a surface state and folded bands, the latter which is argued to originate from a unit cell reconstruction.

Mesoscale variations of chemical and electronic landscape on the surface of Weyl semimetal Co$_3$Sn$_2$S$_2$ visualized by ARPES and XPS

The multiple crystalline terminations in magnetic Weyl semimetal Co$_3$Sn$_2$S$_2$ display distinct topological and trivial surface states, which have successfully been distinguished experimentally. However, a model of pure terminations is known to be inadequate because these surfaces exhibit a high degree of spatial heterogeneity and point disorder. Here we perform a spectromicroscopy study of the surface chemistry and surface electronic structure using photoemission measurements in combination with first-principles calculations of core levels. We identify an intermediate region with properties distinct from both the sulfur and tin terminations, and demonstrate that the spectral features in this region can be associated with a disordered termination with a varying density of surface tin vacancies. This work establishes heuristics for identifying variable surface disorder using photoemission, an important prerequisite to experimentally establishing the behavior of momentum-space topological surface features subject to variable surface disorder on a single cleave.

Random vortex and expansion-rate model for Oberbeck-Boussinesq fluid flows

By using a formulation of a class of compressible viscous flows with a heat source via vorticity and expansion-rate, we study the Oberbeck-Boussinesq flows. To this end we establish a new integral representation for solutions of parabolic equations subject to certain boundary condition, which allows us to develop a random vortex method for certain compressible flows and to compute numerically solutions of their dynamical models. Numerical experiments are carried out, which not only capture detailed Bénard convection but also are capable of providing additional information on the fluid density and the dynamics of expansion-rate of the flow.

On vorticity and expansion-rate of fluid flows, conditional law duality and their representations

By using a formulation of motion equations for a viscous (compressible) fluid flow in terms of the vorticity and the rate of expansion as the main fluid dynamical variables, an approximation model is established for compressible flows with slowly varied (over the space) fluid density. The probabilistic tools and the main ingredient such as the duality of conditional laws and the forward type Feynman-Kac formula are established for elliptic operators of second order, in order to formulate the corresponding random vortex method for a class of viscous compressible fluid flows, based on their approximation motion equations.

Anomalous depinning of magnetic domain walls within the ferromagnetic phase of the Weyl semimetal Co3Sn2S2

We report bulk magnetization measurements and spatially resolved measurements of magnetic domains in Co3Sn2S2 single crystals. The results indicate that a previously reported magnetic anomaly around 130 K is due to an anomalous domain wall depinning upon cooling. Our measurements also reveal a hysteresis between field-cooled-cooling (FCC) and field-cooled-warming (FCW) magnetization curves acquired under a constant magnetic field below 300 Oe. This observation rules out the possibility that the anomaly stems from a second-order phase transition. Our results further suggest that changes in the shape of hysteresis loops from 5 K to 170 K are caused by an unusual temperature-dependent domain nucleation field that changes sign around 130 K. The Kerr rotation images of the magnetic domains confirm that the domain walls depin between 120 K and 140 K.

Electronic structure and topology across $T_c$ in magnetic Weyl semimetal Co$_3$Sn$_2$S$_2$

Co$_3$Sn$_2$S$_2$ is a magnetic Weyl semimetal, in which ferromagnetic ordering at 177K is predicted to stabilize Weyl points. We perform temperature and spatial dependent angle--resolved photoemission spectroscopy measurements through the Curie temperature ($T_c$), which show large band shifts and renormalization concomitant with the onset of magnetism. We argue that Co$_3$Sn$_2$S$_2$ evolves from a Mott ferromagnet below $T_c$ to a correlated metallic state above $T_c$. To understand the magnetism, we derive a tight-binding model of Co-$3d_{x^2-y^2}$ orbitals on the kagome lattice. At the filling obtained by first-principles calculations, this model reproduces the ferromagnetic ground state, and results in the reduction of Coulomb interactions due to cluster effects. Using a disordered local moment simulation, we show how this reduced Hubbard-$U$ leads to a collapse of the bands across the magnetic transition, resulting in a correlated state which carries associated characteristic photoemission signatures that are distinct from those of a simple lifting of exchange splitting. The behavior of topology across $T_c$ is discussed in the context of this description of the magnetism.
