Spectuner: A Framework for Automated Line Identification of Interstellar Molecules

Interstellar molecules, which play an important role in astrochemistry, are identified using observed spectral lines. Despite the advent of spectral analysis tools in the past decade, the identification of spectral lines remains a tedious task that requires extensive manual intervention, preventing us from fully exploiting the vast amounts of data generated by large facilities such as ALMA. This study aims to address the aforementioned issue by developing a framework of automated line identification. We introduce a robust spectral fitting technique applicable for spectral line identification with minimal human supervision. Our method is assessed using published data from five line surveys of hot cores, including W51, Orion-KL, Sgr B2(M), and Sgr B2(N). By comparing the identified lines, our algorithm achieves an overall recall of ~ 74% - 93%, and an average precision of ~ 78% - 92%. Our code, named Spectuner, is publicly available on GitHub.

Automated Identification and Segmentation of Hi Sources in CRAFTS Using Deep Learning Method

Identifying neutral hydrogen (\hi) galaxies from observational data is a significant challenge in \hi\ galaxy surveys. With the advancement of observational technology, especially with the advent of large-scale telescope projects such as FAST and SKA, the significant increase in data volume presents new challenges for the efficiency and accuracy of data processing. To address this challenge, in this study, we present a machine learning-based method for extracting \hi\ sources from the three-dimensional (3D) spectral data obtained from the Commensal Radio Astronomy FAST Survey (CRAFTS). We have carefully assembled a specialized dataset, HISF, rich in \hi\ sources, specifically designed to enhance the detection process. Our model, Unet-LK, utilizes the advanced 3D-Unet segmentation architecture and employs an elongated convolution kernel to effectively capture the intricate structures of \hi\ sources. This strategy ensures a reliable identification and segmentation of \hi\ sources, achieving notable performance metrics with a recall rate of 91.6\% and an accuracy of 95.7\%. These results substantiate the robustness of our dataset and the effectiveness of our proposed network architecture in the precise identification of \hi\ sources. Our code and dataset is publicly available at \url{https://github.com/fishszh/HISF}.

Dissipativity-Based Decentralized Co-Design of Distributed Controllers and Communication Topologies for Vehicular Platoons

Vehicular platoons provide an appealing option for future transportation systems. Most of the existing work on platoons separated the design of the controller and its communication topologies. However, it is beneficial to design both the platooning controller and the communication topology simultaneously, i.e., controller and topology co-design, especially in the cases of platoon splitting and merging. We are, therefore, motivated to propose a co-design framework for vehicular platoons that maintains both the compositionality of the controller and the string stability of the platoon, which enables the merging and splitting of the vehicles in a platoon. To this end, we first formulate the co-design problem as a centralized linear matrix inequality (LMI) problem and then decompose it using Sylvester's criterion to obtain a set of smaller decentralized LMI problems that can be solved sequentially at individual vehicles in the platoon. Moreover, in the formulated decentralized LMI problems, we encode a specifically derived local LMI to enforce the $L_2$ stability of the closed-loop platooning system, further implying the $L_2$ weak string stability of the vehicular platoon. Finally, to validate the proposed co-design method and its features in terms of merging/splitting, we provide an extensive collection of simulation results generated from a specifically developed simulation framework. Global dynamics of large solution for the compressible Navier-Stokes-Korteweg equations

In this paper, we study the Navier-Stokes-Korteweg equations governed by the evolution of compressible fluids with capillarity effects. We first investigate the global well-posedness of solution in the critical Besov space for large initial data. Contrary to pure parabolic methods in Charve, Danchin and Xu \cite{CDX}, we also take the strong dispersion due to large capillarity coefficient $κ$ into considerations. By establishing a dissipative-dispersive estimate, we are able to obtain uniform estimates and incompressible limits in terms of $κ$ simultaneously. Secondly, we establish the large time behaviors of the solution. We would make full use of both parabolic mechanics and dispersive structure which implicates our decay results without limitations for upper bound of derivatives while requiring no smallness for initial assumption.

Global dynamics of Kato's solutions for the 3D incompressible micropolar system

We consider the global well-posedness and decay rates for solutions of 3D incompressible micropolar equation in the critical Besov space. Spectrum analysis allows us to find not only parabolic behaviors of solutions, but also damping effect of angular velocity in the low frequencies. Based on this observation, we establish the global well-posedness with more general regularity on the initial data. The approach concerns large time behaviors is so-called the Gevrey method which bases on the parabolic mechanics of the micropolar system. This method enables us even to derive decay of \textit{arbitrary} higher order derivatives by transforming it into the control of the radius of analyticity under a particular regularity. To bound the growth of the radius of analyticity in general $L^p$ Besov spaces, we shall develop some new techniques concern Gevrey estimates, especially an extended Coifman-Meyer theory, to cover those endpoint Lebesgue framework.

PI-AstroDeconv: A Physics-Informed Unsupervised Learning Method for Astronomical Image Deconvolution

In the imaging process of an astronomical telescope, the deconvolution of its beam or Point Spread Function (PSF) is a crucial task. However, deconvolution presents a classical and challenging inverse computation problem. In scenarios where the beam or PSF is complex or inaccurately measured, such as in interferometric arrays and certain radio telescopes, the resultant blurry images are often challenging to interpret visually or analyze using traditional physical detection methods. We argue that traditional methods frequently lack specific prior knowledge, thereby leading to suboptimal performance. To address this issue and achieve image deconvolution and reconstruction, we propose an unsupervised network architecture that incorporates prior physical information. The network adopts an encoder-decoder structure while leveraging the telescope's PSF as prior knowledge. During network training, we introduced accelerated Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) convolution to enable efficient processing of high-resolution input images and PSFs. We explored various classic regression networks, including autoencoder (AE) and U-Net, and conducted a comprehensive performance evaluation through comparative analysis.

Global existence and analyticity of $L^p$ solutions to the compressible fluid model of Korteweg type

We are concerned with a system of equations in $\mathbb{R}^{d}(d\geq2)$ governing the evolution of isothermal, viscous and compressible fluids of Korteweg type, that can be used as a phase transition model. In the case of zero sound speed $P'(ρ^{\ast})=0$, it is found that the linearized system admits the \textit{purely} parabolic structure, which enables us to establish the global-in-time existence and Gevrey analyticity of strong solutions in hybrid Besov spaces of $L^p$-type. Precisely, if the full viscosity coefficient and capillary coefficient satisfy $\barν^2\geq4\barκ$, then the acoustic waves are not available in compressible fluids. Consequently, the prior $L^2$ bounds on the low frequencies of density and velocity could be improved to the general $L^p$ version with $1\leq p\leq d$ if $d\geq2$. The proof mainly relies on new nonlinear Besov (-Gevrey) estimates for product and composition of functions.

Distributed Adaptive Backstepping Control for Vehicular Platoons with Mismatched Disturbances Using Vector String Lyapunov Functions

In this paper, we consider the problem of platooning control with mismatched disturbances using the distributed adaptive backstepping method. The main challenges are: (1) maintaining the compositionality and the distributed nature of the controller, and (2) ensuring the robustness of the controller with respect to general types of disturbances. To address these challenges, we first propose a novel notion that we named "Vector String Lyapunov Function", whose existence implies l2 weak string stability. This notion is based on the vector Lyapunov function-based stability analysis, which depends on the input-to-state-stability of a comparison system. Using this notion, we propose an adaptive backstepping controller for the platoon such that the compositionality and the distributed nature of the controller can be ensured while the internal stability and string stability of the closed-loop system are formally guaranteed. Finally, simulation examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm. In particular, we provide simulation results comparing our proposed control algorithm with a recently proposed control algorithm from the literature, under two types of information flow topologies and disturbances.

Decay of higher order derivatives for $L^p$ solutions to the compressible fluid model of Korteweg type

We present a new derivation for the optimal decay of \textit{arbitrary} higher order derivatives for $L^p$ solutions to the compressible fluid model of Korteweg type. This approach, based on Gevrey estimates, is to establish uniform bounds on the growth of the radius of analyticity of the solution in negative Besov norms. For that end, the maximal regularity property involving Gevrey multiplier of heat kernel and non standard product Besov estimates are well developed. Our approach is partly inspired by Oliver-Titi's work and is applicable to a wide range of dissipative systems.

Robust Approximate Simulation for Hierarchical Control of Piecewise Affine Systems under Bounded Disturbances

Piecewise affine (PWA) systems are widely applied in many practical cases such as the control of nonlinear systems and hybrid dynamics. However, most of the existing PWA control methods have poor scalability with respect to the number of modes and system dimensions and may not be robust to the disturbances in performance. In this paper, we present a robust approximate simulation based control method for PWA systems under bounded external disturbances. First, a lower-dimensional linear system (abstraction) and an associated interface are designed to enable the output of the PWA system (concrete system) to track the output of the abstraction. Then, a Lyapunov-like simulation function is designed to show the boundedness of the output errors between the two systems. Furthermore, the results obtained for linear abstraction are extended to the case that a simpler PWA system is the abstraction. To illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, simulation results are provided for two design examples.

Variation of Broad Emission Lines from QSOs with Optical/UV Periodicity to Test the Interpretation of Supermassive Binary Black Holes

Periodic quasars have been suggested to host supermassive binary black holes (BBHs) in their centers, and their optical/UV periodicities are interpreted as caused by either the Doppler-boosting (DB) effect of continuum emission from the disk around the secondary black hole (BH) or intrinsic accretion rate variation. However, no other definitive evidence has been found to confirm such a BBH interpretation(s). In this paper, we investigate the responses of broad emission lines (BELs) to the continuum variations for these quasars under two BBH scenarios, and check whether they can be distinguished from each other and from that of a single BH system. We assume a simple circumbinary broad-line region (BLR) model, compatible with BLR size estimates, with a standard $Γ$ distribution of BLR clouds. We find that BELs may change significantly and periodically under the BBH scenarios due to (1) the position variation of the secondary BH and (2) the DB effect, if significant, and/or intrinsic variation, which is significantly different from the case of a single BH system. For the two BBH scenarios, the responses of BELs to (apparent) continuum variations, caused by the DB effect or intrinsic rate variation, are also significantly different from each other, mainly because the DB effect has a preferred direction along the direction of motion of the secondary BH, while that due to intrinsic variation does not. Such differences in the responses of BELs from different scenarios may offer a robust way to distinguish different interpretations of periodic quasars and to identify BBHs, if any, in these systems.

Broad-line region configuration of the supermassive binary black hole candidate PG1302-102 in the relativistic Doppler boosting scenario

PG1302-102 is thought to be a supermassive binary black hole (BBH) system according to the periodical variations of its optical and UV photometry, which may be interpreted as being due to the relativistic Doppler boosting of the emission mainly from the disk around the secondary black hole (BH) modulated by its orbital motion. In this paper, we investigate several broad emission lines of PG1302-102 using archived UV spectra obtained by IUE, GALEX, and Hubble, to reveal the broad-line region (BLR) emission properties of this BBH system under the Doppler boosting scenario. We find that the broad lines Ly$α$, NV, CIV, and CIII] all show Gaussian profiles, and none of these lines exhibits obvious periodical variation. Adopting a simple model for the BLR, we perform Markov chain Monte Carlo fittings to these broad lines, and find that the BLR must be viewed at an orientation angle of $\sim33^{\circ}$, close to face-on. If the Doppler boosting interpretation is correct, then the BLR is misaligned with the BBH orbital plane by an angle of $\sim51^\circ$, which suggests that the Doppler boosted continuum variation has little effect on the broad-line emission and thus does not lead to periodical line variation. We further discuss the possible implications for such a BLR configuration with respect to the BBH orbital plane.

Testing the relativistic Doppler boost hypothesis for supermassive binary black holes candidates via broad emission line profiles

Optical periodicity QSOs found by transient surveys are suggested to be sub-parsec supermassive binary black holes (BBHs). An intriguing interpretation for the periodicity of some of those QSOs is that the continuum is radiated from the accretion disk associated with the BBH secondary component and modulated by the periodical rotation of the secondary via Doppler-boost effect. Close to edge-on orbital orientation can lead to more significant Doppler-boost effect and thus are preferred for these systems, which is distinct from those normal type-1 QSOs with more or less face-on orientations. Therefore, the profiles of broad lines emitted from these Doppler-modulated systems may be significantly different from other systems that are not Doppler-modulated. We investigate the properties of the broad emission lines of optical-periodicity QSOs, including both a sample of QSOs that can be interpreted by the Doppler-modulated effects and a sample that cannot. We find that there is no obvious difference in the profiles and other properties of various (stacked) broad emission lines of these two samples, though a simple broad line region model would suggest significant differences. Our finding raises a challenge to the Doppler boost hypothesis for some of those BBHs candidates with optical periodicity.
