Scattering below the ground state for the 2D non-linear Schrödinger and Klein-Gordon equations revisited

We revisit the scattering problems for the 2D mass super-critical Schrödinger and Klein-Gordon equations with radial data below the ground state in the energy space. We give an alternative proof of energy scattering for both defocusing and focusing cases using the ideas of Dodson-Murphy \citep{dodson2017new-radial}. Our results also include the exponential type nonlinearities which seems to be new for the focusing exponential NLS.

Scattering for the quadratic Klein-Gordon equations

We study the scattering problems for the quadratic Klein-Gordon equations with radial initial data in the energy space. For 3D, we prove small data scattering, and for 4D, we prove large data scattering with mass below the ground state.

Commutators of Hilbert transforms along monomial curves

The Hilbert transforms associated with monomial curves have a natural non-isotropic structure. We study the commutator of such Hilbert transforms and a symbol $b$ and prove the upper bound of this commutator when $b$ is in the corresponding non-isotropic BMO space by using the Cauchy integral trick. We also consider the lower bound of this commutator by introducing a new testing BMO space associated with the given monomial curve, which shows that the classical non-isotropic BMO space is contained in the testing BMO space. We also show that the non-zero curvature of such monomial curves are important, since when considering Hilbert transforms associated with lines, the parallel version of non-isotropic BMO space and testing BMO space have overlaps but do not have containment.

Remarks on the well-posedness of the Euler equations in the Triebel-Lizorkin spaces

We prove the continuous dependence of the solution maps for the Euler equations in the (critical) Triebel-Lizorkin spaces, which was not shown in the previous works(\cite{Ch02, Ch03, ChMiZh10}). The proof relies on the classical Bona-Smith method as \cite{GuLiYi18}, where similar result was obtained in critical Besov spaces $B^1_{\infty,1}$.

Stability of peakons for the generalized modified Camassa-Holm equation

In this paper, we study orbital stability of peakons for the generalized modified Camassa-Holm (gmCH) equation, which is a natural higher-order generalization of the modified Camassa-Holm (mCH) equation, and admits Hamiltonian form and single peakons. We first show that the single peakon is the usual weak solution of the PDEs. Some sign invariant properties and conserved densities are presented. Next, by constructing the corresponding auxiliary function $h(t,\,x)$ and establishing a delicate polynomial inequality relating to the two conserved densities with the maximal value of approximate solutions, the orbital stability of single peakon of the gmCH equation is verified. We introduce a new approach to prove the key inequality, which is different from that used for the mCH equation. This extends the result on the stability of peakons for the mCH equation (Comm. Math. Phys., 322:967-997, 2013) successfully to the higher-order case, and is helpful to understand how higher-order nonlinearities affect the dispersion dynamics.

The Zakharov system in 4D radial energy space below the ground state

We prove dynamical dichotomy into scattering and blow-up (in a weak sense) for all radial solutions of the Zakharov system in the energy space of four spatial dimensions that have less energy than the ground state, which is written using the Aubin-Talenti function. The dichotomy is characterized by the critical mass of the wave component of the ground state. The result is similar to that by Kenig and Merle for the energy-critical nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLS). Unlike NLS, however, the most difficult interaction in the proof stems from the free wave component. In order to control it, the main novel ingredient we develop in this paper is a uniform global Strichartz estimate for the linear Schrodinger equation with a potential of subcritical mass solving a wave equation. This estimate, as well as the proof, may be of independent interest. For the scattering proof, we follow the idea by Dodson and Murphy.

On scattering for the defocusing quintic nonlinear Schrödinger equation on the two-dimensional cylinder

In this article, we prove the scattering for the quintic defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation on cylinder $\mathbb{R} \times \mathbb{T}$ in $H^1$. We establish an abstract linear profile decomposition in $L^2_x h^α$, $0 < α\le 1$, motivated by the linear profile decomposition of the mass-critical Schrödinger equation in $L^2(\mathbb{R}^d )$, $d\ge 1$. Then by using the solution of the one-discrete-component quintic resonant nonlinear Schrödinger system, whose scattering can be proved by using the techniques in $1d$ mass critical NLS problem by B. Dodson, to approximate the nonlinear profile, we can prove scattering in $H^1$ by using the concentration-compactness/rigidity method. As a byproduct of our proof of the scattering of the one-discrete-component quintic resonant nonlinear Schrödinger system, we also prove the conjecture of the global well-posedness and scattering of the two-discrete-component quintic resonant nonlinear Schrödinger system made by Z. Hani and B. Pausader [Comm. Pure Appl. Math. 67 (2014)].

Lp bilinear quasimode estimates

In this paper, we investigate the $L^p$ bilinear quasimode estimates on compact Riemannian manifolds. We obtain results in the full range $p\ge2$ on all $n$-dimensional manifolds with $n\ge2$. This in particular implies the $L^p$ bilinear eigenfunction estimates. We further show that all of these estimates are sharp by constructing various quasimodes and eigenfunctions that saturate our estimates.

Ill-posedness of the Camassa-Holm and related equations in the critical space

We prove norm inflation and hence ill-posedness for a class of shallow water wave equations, such as the Camassa-Holm equation, Degasperis-Procesi equation and Novikov equation etc., in the critical Sobolev space $H^{3/2}$ and even in the Besov space $B^{1+1/p}_{p,r}$ for $p\in [1,\infty], r\in (1,\infty]$. Our results cover both real-line and torus cases (only real-line case for Novikov), solving an open problem left in the previous works (\cite{Danchin2,Byers,HHK}).

On the boundary Strichartz estimates for wave and Schrödinger equations

We consider the $L_t^2L_x^r$ estimates for the solutions to the wave and Schrödinger equations in high dimensions. For the homogeneous estimates, we show $L_t^2L_x^\infty$ estimates fail at the critical regularity in high dimensions by using stable Lévy process in $\R^d$. Moreover, we show that some spherically averaged $L_t^2L_x^\infty$ estimate holds at the critical regularity. As a by-product we obtain Strichartz estimates with angular smoothing effect. For the inhomogeneous estimates, we prove double $L_t^2$-type estimates.

Local well-posedness of the incompressible Euler equations in $B^1_{\infty,1}$ and the inviscid limit of the Navier-Stokes equations

We prove the inviscid limit of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in the same topology of Besov spaces as the initial data. The proof is based on proving the continuous dependence of the Navier-Stokes equations uniformly with respect to the viscosity. To show the latter, we rely on some Bona-Smith type method in the $L^p$ setting. Our obtained result implies a new result that the Cauchy problem of the Euler equations is locally well-posed in the borderline Besov space $B^{\frac dp+1}_{p,1}(\mathbb{R}^d)$, $1\leq p\leq \infty$, $d\geq 2$, in the sense of Hadmard, which is an open problem left in recent works by Bourgain and Li in \cite{BL,BL1} and by Misiołek and Yoneda in \cite{MY,MY2, MY3}.

Instability of the solitary wave solutions for the genenalized derivative Nonlinear Schrödinger equation in the critical frequency case

We study the stability theory of solitary wave solutions for the generalized derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation $$ i\partial_{t}u+\partial_{x}^{2}u+i|u|^{2σ}\partial_x u=0. $$ The equation has a two-parameter family of solitary wave solutions of the form \begin{align*} ϕ_{ω,c}(x)=φ_{ω,c}(x)\exp{\big\{ i\frac c2 x-\frac{i}{2σ+2}\int_{-\infty}^{x}φ^{2σ}_{ω,c}(y)dy\big\}}. \end{align*} Here $ φ_{ω,c}$ is some real-valued function. It was proved in \cite{LiSiSu1} that the solitary wave solutions are stable if $-2\sqrt{ω}<c <2z_0\sqrt{ω}$, and unstable if $2z_0\sqrt{ω}<c <2\sqrt{ω}$ for some $z_0\in(0,1)$. We prove the instability at the borderline case $c =2z_0\sqrt{ω}$ for $1<σ<2$, improving the previous results in \cite{Fu-16-DNLS} where $3/2<σ<2$.

On scattering for the cubic defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation on waveguide $\mathbb{R}^2\times \mathbb{T}$

In this article, we will show the global wellposedness and scattering of the cubic defocusing nonlinear Schrödinger equation on waveguide $\mathbb{R}^2\times \mathbb{T}$ in $H^1$. We first establish the linear profile decomposition in $H^{ 1}(\mathbb{R}^2 \times \mathbb{T})$ motivated by the linear profile decomposition of the mass-critical Schrödinger equation in $L^2(\mathbb{R}^2)$. Then by using the solution of the infinite dimensional vector-valued resonant nonlinear Schrödinger system to approximate the nonlinear profile, we can prove scattering in $H^1$ by using the concentration-compactness/rigidity method.

Scattering for the 3D Gross-Pitaevskii equation

We study the Cauchy problem for the 3D Gross-Pitaevskii equation. The global well-posedness in the natural energy space was proved by Gérard \cite{Gerard}. In this paper we prove scattering for small data in the same space with some additional angular regularity, and in particular in the radial case we obtain small energy scattering.

Non-existence of solutions for the periodic cubic NLS below $L^2$

We prove non-existence of solutions for the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS) on the circle if initial data belong to $H^s(\mathbb{T}) \setminus L^2(\mathbb{T})$ for some $s \in (-\frac18, 0)$. The proof is based on establishing an a priori bound on solutions to a renormalized cubic NLS in negative Sobolev spaces via the short time Fourier restriction norm method.

Normal form approach to global well-posedness of the quadratic derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation on the circle

We consider the quadratic derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation (dNLS) on the circle. In particular, we develop an infinite iteration scheme of normal form reductions for dNLS. By combining this normal form procedure with the Cole-Hopf transformation, we prove unconditional global well-posedness in $L^2(\mathbb{T})$, and more generally in certain Fourier-Lebesgue spaces $\mathcal{F} L^{s, p}(\mathbb{T})$, under the mean-zero and smallness assumptions. As a byproduct, we construct an infinite sequence of quantities that are invariant under the dynamics. We also show the necessity of the smallness assumption by explicitly constructing a finite time blowup solution with non-small mean-zero initial data.

The inviscid limit for the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation in the critical Besov space

We prove that in dimensions three and higher the Landau-Lifshitz- Gilbert equation with small initial data in the critical Besov space is globally wellposed in a uniform way with respect to the Gilbert damping parameter. Then we show that the global solution converges to that of the Schrodinger maps in the natural space as the Gilbert damping term vanishes. The proof is based on some studies on the derivative Ginzburg-Landau equations.

A Moser type inequality for Bessel Laplace equations and applications

In this paper, we study Bessel operators and Bessel Laplace equations studied by Weinstein, Huber, and related the harmonic function theory introduced by Muckenhoupt--Stein. We establish the Moser type inequality for these harmonic functions, which is missing in this setting before. We then apply it to give a direct proof for the equivalence of characterizations of the Hardy spaces associated to Bessel operator via non-tangential maximal function and radial maximal function defined in terms of the Poisson semigroup.
