Collaborative UAVs Multi-task Video Processing Optimization Based on Enhanced Distributed Actor-Critic Networks

With the rapid advancement of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), intelligent information services are being increasingly integrated across various sectors, including healthcare, industry, and transportation. Traditional solutions rely on centralized cloud processing, which encounters considerable challenges in fulfilling the Quality of Service (QoS) requirements of Computer Vision (CV) tasks generated in the resource-constrained infrastructure-less environments. In this paper, we introduce a distributed framework called CoUAV-Pro for multi-task video processing powered by Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). This framework empowers multiple UAVs to meet the service demands of various computer vision (CV) tasks in infrastructure-less environments, thereby eliminating the need for centralized processing. Specifically, we develop a novel task allocation algorithm that leverages enhanced distributed actor-critic networks within CoUAV-Pro, aiming to optimize task processing efficiency while contending with constraints associated with UAV's energy, computational, and communication resources. Comprehensive experiments demonstrate that our proposed solution achieves satisfactory performance levels against those of centralized methods across key metrics including task acquisition rates, task latency, and energy consumption.

Unleashing Collaborative Computing for Adaptive Video Streaming with Multi-objective Optimization in Satellite Terrestrial Networks

Satellite-terrestrial networks (STNs) are anticipated to deliver seamless IoT services across expansive regions. Given the constrained resources available for offloading computationally intensive tasks like video streaming, it is crucial to establish collaborative computing among diverse components within STNs. In this paper, we present the task offloading challenge as a multi-objective optimization problem, leveraging the collaboration between ground devices/users and satellites. We propose a collaborative computing scheme that optimally assigns computing tasks to various nodes within STNs to enhance service performance including quality of experience (QoE). This algorithm initially dynamically selects an end-to-end path that balances service time and resource utilization. For each selected path, a multi-agent soft actor-critic (MA-SAC)-based algorithm is introduced to make adaptive decisions and collaboratively assign optimal heterogeneous resources to the given computing tasks. In this algorithm, the ground station bridging satellite network and terrestrial network is treated as agent to extract the information from both STNs and users. Through MA-SAC, multiple agents cooperate to determine the adaptive bitrate and network resources for the arriving tasks. The numerical results demonstrate that our proposal outperforms comparative schemes across various computing tasks in terms of various criteria.

Heterogeneous Value Alignment Evaluation for Large Language Models

The emergent capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs) have made it crucial to align their values with those of humans. However, current methodologies typically attempt to assign value as an attribute to LLMs, yet lack attention to the ability to pursue value and the importance of transferring heterogeneous values in specific practical applications. In this paper, we propose a Heterogeneous Value Alignment Evaluation (HVAE) system, designed to assess the success of aligning LLMs with heterogeneous values. Specifically, our approach first brings the Social Value Orientation (SVO) framework from social psychology, which corresponds to how much weight a person attaches to the welfare of others in relation to their own. We then assign the LLMs with different social values and measure whether their behaviors align with the inducing values. We conduct evaluations with new auto-metric \textit{value rationality} to represent the ability of LLMs to align with specific values. Evaluating the value rationality of five mainstream LLMs, we discern a propensity in LLMs towards neutral values over pronounced personal values. By examining the behavior of these LLMs, we contribute to a deeper insight into the value alignment of LLMs within a heterogeneous value system.

MIRACLE: Multi-task Learning based Interpretable Regulation of Autoimmune Diseases through Common Latent Epigenetics

DNA methylation is a crucial regulator of gene transcription and has been linked to various diseases, including autoimmune diseases and cancers. However, diagnostics based on DNA methylation face challenges due to large feature sets and small sample sizes, resulting in overfitting and suboptimal performance. To address these issues, we propose MIRACLE, a novel interpretable neural network that leverages autoencoder-based multi-task learning to integrate multiple datasets and jointly identify common patterns in DNA methylation. MIRACLE's architecture reflects the relationships between methylation sites, genes, and pathways, ensuring biological interpretability and meaningfulness. The network comprises an encoder and a decoder, with a bottleneck layer representing pathway information as the basic unit of heredity. Customized defined MaskedLinear Layer is constrained by site-gene-pathway graph adjacency matrix information, which provides explainability and expresses the site-gene-pathway hierarchical structure explicitly. And from the embedding, there are different multi-task classifiers to predict diseases. Tested on six datasets, including rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, multiple sclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease, psoriasis, and type 1 diabetes, MIRACLE demonstrates robust performance in identifying common functions of DNA methylation across different phenotypes, with higher accuracy in prediction dieseases than baseline methods. By incorporating biological prior knowledge, MIRACLE offers a meaningful and interpretable framework for DNA methylation data analysis in the context of autoimmune diseases.
