Finite generation for valuations computing stability thresholds and applications to K-stability

We prove that on any log Fano pair of dimension $n$ whose stability threshold is less than $\frac{n+1}{n}$, any valuation computing the stability threshold has a finitely generated associated graded ring. Together with earlier works, this implies: (a) a log Fano pair is uniformly K-stable (resp. reduced uniformly K-stable) if and only if it is K-stable (resp. K-polystable); (b) the K-moduli spaces are proper and projective; and combining with the previously known equivalence between the existence of Kähler-Einstein metric and reduced uniform K-stability proved by the variational approach, (c) the Yau-Tian-Donaldson conjecture holds for general (possibly singular) log Fano pairs.

Optimal destabilizing centers and equivariant K-stability

We give an algebraic proof of the equivalence of equivariant K-semistability (resp. equivariant K-polystability) with geometric K-semistability (resp. geometric K-polystability). Along the way we also prove the existence and uniqueness of minimal optimal destabilizing centers on K-unstable log Fano pairs.

On positivity of the CM line bundle on K-moduli spaces

In this paper, we consider the CM line bundle on the K-moduli space, i.e., the moduli space parametrizing K-polystable Fano varieties. We prove it is ample on any proper subspace parametrizing reduced uniformly K-stable Fano varieties which conjecturally should be the entire moduli space. As a corollary, we prove that the moduli space parametrizing smoothable K-polystable Fano varieties is projective. During the course of proof, we develop a new invariant for filtrations which can be used to test various K-stability notions of Fano varieties.

On the sharpness of Tian's criterion for K-stability

Tian's criterion for K-stability states that a Fano variety of dimension $n$ whose alpha invariant is greater than $\frac{n}{n+1}$ is K-stable. We show that this criterion is sharp by constructing singular Fano varieties with alpha invariants $\frac{n}{n+1}$ that are not K-polystable for sufficiently large $n$. We also construct K-unstable Fano varieties with alpha invariants $\frac{n-1}{n}$.

Fano varieties with large Seshadri constants in positive characteristic

We prove that a Fano variety (with arbitrary singularities) of dimension $n$ in positive characteristic is isomorphic to $\mathbb{P}^n$ if the Seshadri constant of the anti-canonical divisor at some smooth point is greater than $n$ and classify Fano varieties whose anti-canonical divisors have Seshadri constants $n$. In characteristic $p>5$ and dimension $3$, we also show that Fano varieties $X$ with Seshadri constants $ε(-K_X,x)>2+ε$ at some smooth point $x\in X$ (for some fixed $ε>0$) have bounded anti-canonical degrees.

Product theorem for K-stability

We prove a product formula for $δ$-invariant and as an application, we show that product of K-(semi, poly)stable Fano varieties is also K-(semi, poly)stable.

Uniqueness of the minimizer of the normalized volume function

We confirm a conjecture of Chi Li which says that the minimizer of the normalized volume function for a klt singularity is unique up to rescaling. This is achieved by defining stability thresholds for valuations, and then showing that a valuation is a minimizer if and only if it is K-semistable, and that K-semistable valuation is unique up to rescaling. As applications, we prove a finite degree formula for volumes of klt singularities and an effective bound of the local fundamental group of a klt singularity.

Birational superrigidity and K-stability of Fano complete intersections of index one (with an appendix written jointly with Charlie Stibitz)

We prove that every smooth Fano complete intersection of index $1$ and codimension $r$ in $\mathbb{P}^{n+r}$ is birationally superrigid and K-stable if $n\ge 10r$. We also propose a generalization of Tian's criterion of K-stability and, as an application, prove the K-stability of the complete intersection of a quadric and a cubic in $\mathbb{P}^5$. In the appendix (written jointly with C. Stibitz), we prove the conditional birational superrigidity of Fano complete intersections of higher index in large dimension.

Birational superrigidity is not a locally closed property

We prove an optimal result on the birational rigidity and K-stability of index $1$ hypersurfaces in $\mathbb{P}^{n+1}$ with ordinary singularities when $n\gg 0$ and also study the birational superrigidity and K-stability of certain weighted complete intersections. As an application, we show that birational superrigidity is not a locally closed property in moduli. We also prove (in the appendix) that the alpha invariant function is constructible in some families of complete intersections.

Some criteria for uniform K-stability

We prove some criteria for uniform K-stability of log Fano pairs. In particular, we show that uniform K-stability is equivalent to $β$-invariant having a positive lower bound. Then we study the relation between optimal destabilization conjecture and the conjectural equivalence between uniform K-stability and K-stability in the twisted setting.

On the Cheltsov--Rubinstein conjecture

In this note we investigate the Cheltsov--Rubinstein conjecture. We show that this conjecture does not hold in general and some counterexamples will be presented.

Fano varieties with large Seshadri constants

We show that the set of Fano varieties (with arbitrary singularities) whose anticanonical divisors have large Seshadri constants satisfies certain weak and birational boundedness. We also classify singular Fano varieties of dimension $n$ whose anticanonical divisors have Seshadri constants at least $n$, generalizing an earlier result of Liu and the author.

K-stability of birationally superrigid Fano varieties

We prove that every birationally superrigid Fano variety whose alpha invariant is greater than (resp. no smaller than) $\frac{1}{2}$ is K-stable (resp. K-semistable). We also prove that the alpha invariant of a birationally superrigid Fano variety of dimension $n$ is at least $\frac{1}{n+1}$ (under mild assumptions) and that the moduli space (if exists) of birationally superrigid Fano varieties is separated.

Characterization of projective spaces by Seshadri constants

We prove that an $n$-dimensional complex projective variety is isomorphic to $\mathbb{P}^n$ if the Seshadri constant of the anti-canonical divisor at some smooth point is greater than $n$. We also classify complex projective varieties with Seshadri constants equal to $n$.

Smooth Rational Curves on Singular Rational Surfaces

We classify all complex surfaces with quotient singularities that do not contain any smooth rational curves, under the assumption that the canonical divisor of the surface is not pseudo-effective. As a corollary we show that if $X$ is a log del Pezzo surface such that for every closed point $p\in X$, there is a smooth curve (locally analytically) passing through $p$, then $X$ contains at least one smooth rational curve.
