High Speed Continuous Variable Source-Independent Quantum Random Number Generation

As a fundamental phenomenon in nature, randomness has a wide range of applications in the fields of science and engineering. Among different types of random number generators (RNG), quantum random number generator (QRNG) is a kind of promising RNG as it can provide provable true random numbers based on the inherent randomness of fundamental quantum processes. Nevertheless, the randomness from a QRNG can be diminished (or even destroyed) if the devices (especially the entropy source devices) are not perfect or ill-characterized. To eliminate the practical security loopholes from the source, source-independent QRNGs, which allow the source to have arbitrary and unknown dimensions, have been introduced and become one of the most important semi-device-independent QRNGs. Herein a method that enables ultra-fast unpredictable quantum random number generation from quadrature fluctuations of quantum optical field without any assumptions on the input states is proposed. Particularly, to estimate a lower bound on the extractable randomness that is independent from side information held by an eavesdropper, a new security analysis framework is established based on the extremality of Gaussian states, which can be easily extended to design and analyze new semi-device-independent continuous variable QRNG protocols. Moreover, the practical imperfections of the QRNG including the effects of excess noise, finite sampling range, finite resolution and asymmetric conjugate quadratures are taken into account and quantitatively analyzed. Finally, the proposed method is experimentally demonstrated to obtain high secure random number generation rates of 15.07 Gbits/s in off-line configuration and can potentially achieve 6 Gbits/s by real-time post-processing.

Complex field measurement in a single pixel hybrid correlation holography

We propose a new scheme for recovery of complex valued object in a single-pixel hybrid correlation holography. Idea is to generate an intensity correlation hologram by correlation of the intensity of a single pixel detector and digitally propagated two dimensional intensity patterns. The proposed scheme with theoretical basis is described to reconstruct the objects from a single pixel detector. An experimental arrangement is proposed and as a first step to realize the technique, we have simulated the experimental model for imaging of two different complex objects.

Composable security analysis of continuous-variable measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution with squeezed states for coherent attacks

Measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution protocol, whose security analysis does not rely on any assumption on the detection system, can immune the attacking against detectors. We give a first composable security analysis for continuous-variable measurement-device-independent quantum key distribution using squeezed states against general coherent attacks. The security analysis is derived based on the entanglement-based scheme considering finite size effect. A version of entropic uncertainty relation is exploited to give a lower bound on the conditional smooth min-entropy by trusting Alice's and Bob's devices. The simulation results indicate that, in the universal composable security framework, the protocol can tolerate 2.5 dB and 6.5 dB channel loss against coherent attacks with direct and reverse reconciliation, respectively.

Light Source Monitoring in Quantum Key Distribution with Single Photon Detector at Room Temperature

Photon number resolving monitoring is a practical light source monitoring scheme in QKD systems, which reduces the impacts from untrusted sources effectively. This scheme requires a single photon detector, normally working at low temperature to suppress its dark count rate. In this paper, we use a room-temperature detector and show that the dark count rate is irrelevant to the monitoring performance in our scheme, which can sufficiently relax requirements on the detector's working conditions as well as integration complexity, and this would be highly demanded for practical systems. Furthermore, influences of parameter drifts at room temperature are analyzed, and the monitoring scheme is testified in a real QKD system.
