GesVLA: Gesture-Aware Vision-Language-Action Model Embedded Representations

Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models have shown strong potential for general-purpose robot manipulation by unifying perception and action. However, existing VLA systems primarily rely on textual instructions and struggle to resolve spatial ambiguity in complex scenes with multiple similar objects. To address this limitation, we introduce gesture as a parallel instruction modality and propose a Gesture-aware Vision-Language-Action model (GesVLA). Our approach encodes gesture features directly into the latent space, enabling them to participate in both high-level reasoning and low-level action generation, and adopts a dual-VLM architecture to achieve tight coupling between gesture representations and action policies. At the data level, we construct a scalable gesture data generation pipeline by rendering hand models onto real-world scene images. This reduces the sim-to-real visual gap while producing rich data with diverse motion patterns and corresponding pointing annotations. In addition, we employ a two-stage training strategy to equip the model with both gesture perception and action prediction capabilities. We evaluate our approach on multiple real-world robotic tasks, including a controlled block manipulation task for validation and more practical scenarios such as product and produce selection. Experimental results show that incorporating gesture consistently improves target grounding accuracy and human-robot interaction efficiency, especially in complex and cluttered environments. Hindsight Preference Optimization for Financial Time Series Advisory

Time series models predict numbers; decision-makers need advisory -- directional signals with reasoning, actionable suggestions, and risk management. Training language models for such predictive advisory faces a fundamental challenge: quality depends on outcomes unknown at prediction time. We bridge two ideas from reinforcement learning -- using information unavailable during execution to retrospectively generate training signal, and preference alignment -- and propose Hindsight Preference Optimization: observed outcomes let an LLM judge rank candidate advisories on dimensions that scalar metrics cannot capture, producing preference pairs for DPO without human annotation. We apply this to Vision-Language-Model-based predictive advisories on S&P 500 equity time series, demonstrated by a 4B model outperforming its 235B teacher on both accuracy and advisory quality.

From Debate to Decision: Conformal Social Choice for Safe Multi-Agent Deliberation

Multi-agent debate improves LLM reasoning, yet agreement among agents is not evidence of correctness. When agents converge on a wrong answer through social reinforcement, consensus-based stopping commits that error to an automated action with no recourse. We introduce Conformal Social Choice, a post-hoc decision layer that converts debate outputs into calibrated act-versus-escalate decisions. Verbalized probability distributions from heterogeneous agents are aggregated via a linear opinion pool and calibrated with split conformal prediction, yielding prediction sets with a marginal coverage guarantee: the correct answer is included with probability ${\geq}\,1{-}α$, without assumptions on individual model calibration. A hierarchical action policy maps singleton sets to autonomous action and larger sets to human escalation. On eight MMLU-Pro domains with three agents (Claude Haiku, DeepSeek-R1, Qwen-3 32B), coverage stays within 1--2 points of the target. The key finding is not that debate becomes more accurate, but that the conformal layer makes its failures actionable: 81.9% of wrong-consensus cases are intercepted at $α{=}0.05$. Because the layer refuses to act on cases where debate is confidently wrong, the remaining conformal singletons reach 90.0--96.8% accuracy (up to 22.1pp above consensus stopping) -- a selection effect, not a reasoning improvement. This safety comes at the cost of automation, but the operating point is user-adjustable via $α$.

Verified Multi-Agent Orchestration: A Plan-Execute-Verify-Replan Framework for Complex Query Resolution

We present Verified Multi-Agent Orchestration (VMAO), a framework that coordinates specialized LLM-based agents through a verification-driven iterative loop. Given a complex query, our system decomposes it into a directed acyclic graph (DAG) of sub-questions, executes them through domain-specific agents in parallel, verifies result completeness via LLM-based evaluation, and adaptively replans to address gaps. The key contributions are: (1) dependency-aware parallel execution over a DAG of sub-questions with automatic context propagation, (2) verification-driven adaptive replanning that uses an LLM-based verifier as an orchestration-level coordination signal, and (3) configurable stop conditions that balance answer quality against resource usage. On 25 expert-curated market research queries, VMAO improves answer completeness from 3.1 to 4.2 and source quality from 2.6 to 4.1 (1-5 scale) compared to a single-agent baseline, demonstrating that orchestration-level verification is an effective mechanism for multi-agent quality assurance.

Robotic Ultrasound Makes CBCT Alive

Intraoperative Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) provides a reliable 3D anatomical context essential for interventional planning. However, its static nature fails to provide continuous monitoring of soft-tissue deformations induced by respiration, probe pressure, and surgical manipulation, leading to navigation discrepancies. We propose a deformation-aware CBCT updating framework that leverages robotic ultrasound as a dynamic proxy to infer tissue motion and update static CBCT slices in real time. Starting from calibration-initialized alignment with linear correlation of linear combination (LC2)-based rigid refinement, our method establishes accurate multimodal correspondence. To capture intraoperative dynamics, we introduce the ultrasound correlation UNet (USCorUNet), a lightweight network trained with optical flow-guided supervision to learn deformation-aware correlation representations, enabling accurate, real-time dense deformation field estimation from ultrasound streams. The inferred deformation is spatially regularized and transferred to the CBCT reference to produce deformation-consistent visualizations without repeated radiation exposure. We validate the proposed approach through deformation estimation and ultrasound-guided CBCT updating experiments. Results demonstrate real-time end-to-end CBCT slice updating and physically plausible deformation estimation, enabling dynamic refinement of static CBCT guidance during robotic ultrasound-assisted interventions. Decoupling Intrinsic Molecular Efficacy from Platform Effects: An Interpretable Machine Learning Framework for Unbiased Perovskite Passivator Discovery

Rational design of interface passivators for perovskite solar cells is hindered by the entanglement of intrinsic molecular efficacy with extrinsic platform-dependent performance - a confounding factor that obscures true chemical advances. Here, we present a generalizable, interpretable machine learning framework that decouples these effects via an asymptotic saturation model, enabling unbiased discovery of molecules with genuine intrinsic gains. Trained on a curated dataset of 240 experimental entries, our model identifies hydrogen bond acceptor strength and electrostatic potential difference as key descriptors. Guided by these insights, we screened >121 million PubChem compounds using a hierarchical strategy integrating diversity clustering and uncertainty quantification. Five dual-functional candidates (e.g., TDZ-S, TZC-F) are identified, exhibiting superior predicted efficacy (surpassing experimental benchmarks) and high confidence. First-principles calculations confirm strong chemisorption (Eads<-1.7 eV), net electron donation, and optimized interfacial energetics. Crucially, our closed-loop "data-interpretation-screening-verification" pipeline establishes a transferable paradigm for rational materials design, extendable to other optoelectronic interfaces beyond perovskites.

FireRedChat: A Pluggable, Full-Duplex Voice Interaction System with Cascaded and Semi-Cascaded Implementations

Full-duplex voice interaction allows users and agents to speak simultaneously with controllable barge-in, enabling lifelike assistants and customer service. Existing solutions are either end-to-end, difficult to design and hard to control, or modular pipelines governed by turn-taking controllers that ease upgrades and per-module optimization; however, prior modular frameworks depend on non-open components and external providers, limiting holistic optimization. In this work, we present a complete, practical full-duplex voice interaction system comprising a turn-taking controller, an interaction module, and a dialogue manager. The controller integrates streaming personalized VAD (pVAD) to suppress false barge-ins from noise and non-primary speakers, precisely timestamp primary-speaker segments, and explicitly enable primary-speaker barge-ins; a semantic end-of-turn detector improves stop decisions. It upgrades heterogeneous half-duplex pipelines, cascaded, semi-cascaded, and speech-to-speech, to full duplex. Using internal models, we implement cascaded and semi-cascaded variants; the semi-cascaded one captures emotional and paralinguistic cues, yields more coherent responses, lowers latency and error propagation, and improves robustness. A dialogue manager extends capabilities via tool invocation and context management. We also propose three system-level metrics, barge-in, end-of-turn detection accuracy, and end-to-end latency, to assess naturalness, control accuracy, and efficiency. Experiments show fewer false interruptions, more accurate semantic ends, and lower latency approaching industrial systems, enabling robust, natural, real-time full-duplex interaction. Prediction of CO2 reduction reaction intermediates and products on transition metal-doped r-GeSe monolayers:A combined DFT and machine learning approach

The electrocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) is a complex multi-proton-electron transfer process that generates a vast network of reaction intermediates. Accurate prediction of free energy changes (G) of these intermediates and products is essential for evaluating catalytic performance. We combined density functional theory (DFT) and machine learning (ML) to screen 25 single-atom catalysts (SACs) on defective r-GeSe monolayers for CO2 reduction to methanol, methane, and formic acid. Among nine ML models evaluated with 14 intrinsic and DFT-based features, the XGBoost performed best (R2 = 0.92 and MAE = 0.24 eV), aligning closely with DFT calculations and identifying Ni, Ru, and Rh@GeSe as prospective catalysts. Feature importance analysis in free energy and product predictions highlighted the significance of CO2 activation with O-C-O and IPC-O1 as the key attributes. Furthermore, by incorporating non-DFT-based features, rapid predictions became possible, and the XGBoost model retained its predictive performance with R2 = 0.89 and MAE = 0.29 eV. This accuracy was further validated using Ir@GeSe. Our work highlights effective SACs for CO2RR, and provides valuable insights for efficient catalyst design.

A Stock Price Prediction Approach Based on Time Series Decomposition and Multi-Scale CNN using OHLCT Images

Recently, deep learning in stock prediction has become an important branch. Image-based methods show potential by capturing complex visual patterns and spatial correlations, offering advantages in interpretability over time series models. However, image-based approaches are more prone to overfitting, hindering robust predictive performance. To improve accuracy, this paper proposes a novel method, named Sequence-based Multi-scale Fusion Regression Convolutional Neural Network (SMSFR-CNN), for predicting stock price movements in the China A-share market. By utilizing CNN to learn sequential features and combining them with image features, we improve the accuracy of stock trend prediction on the A-share market stock dataset. This approach reduces the search space for image features, stabilizes, and accelerates the training process. Extensive comparative experiments on 4,454 A-share stocks show that the model achieves a 61.15% positive predictive value and a 63.37% negative predictive value for the next 5 days, resulting in a total profit of 165.09%.

FinTextQA: A Dataset for Long-form Financial Question Answering

Accurate evaluation of financial question answering (QA) systems necessitates a comprehensive dataset encompassing diverse question types and contexts. However, current financial QA datasets lack scope diversity and question complexity. This work introduces FinTextQA, a novel dataset for long-form question answering (LFQA) in finance. FinTextQA comprises 1,262 high-quality, source-attributed QA pairs extracted and selected from finance textbooks and government agency websites. Moreover, we developed a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG)-based LFQA system, comprising an embedder, retriever, reranker, and generator. A multi-faceted evaluation approach, including human ranking, automatic metrics, and GPT-4 scoring, was employed to benchmark the performance of different LFQA system configurations under heightened noisy conditions. The results indicate that: (1) Among all compared generators, Baichuan2-7B competes closely with GPT-3.5-turbo in accuracy score; (2) The most effective system configuration on our dataset involved setting the embedder, retriever, reranker, and generator as Ada2, Automated Merged Retrieval, Bge-Reranker-Base, and Baichuan2-7B, respectively; (3) models are less susceptible to noise after the length of contexts reaching a specific threshold.

Software Code Quality Measurement: Implications from Metric Distributions

Software code quality is a construct with three dimensions: maintainability, reliability, and functionality. Although many firms have incorporated code quality metrics in their operations, evaluating these metrics still lacks consistent standards. We categorized distinct metrics into two types: 1) monotonic metrics that consistently influence code quality; and 2) non-monotonic metrics that lack a consistent relationship with code quality. To consistently evaluate them, we proposed a distribution-based method to get metric scores. Our empirical analysis includes 36,460 high-quality open-source software (OSS) repositories and their raw metrics from SonarQube and CK. The evaluated scores demonstrate great explainability on software adoption. Our work contributes to the multi-dimensional construct of code quality and its metric measurements, which provides practical implications for consistent measurements on both monotonic and non-monotonic metrics.

Nanowire Array Breath Acetone Sensor for Diabetes Monitoring

Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a life-threatening acute complication of diabetes in which ketone bodies accumulate in the blood. Breath acetone (a ketone) directly correlates with blood ketones, such that breath acetone monitoring could be used to improve safety in diabetes care. In this work, we report the design and fabrication of a chitosan/Pt/InP nanowire array based chemiresistive acetone sensor. By implementing chitosan as a surface functionalization layer and a Pt Schottky contact for efficient charge transfer processes and photovoltaic effect, self-powered, highly selective acetone sensing has been achieved. This sensor has an ultra-wide detection range from sub-ppb to >100,000 ppm levels at room temperature, incorporating the range from healthy individuals (300-800 ppb) to those at high-risk of DKA (> 75 ppm). The nanowire sensor has been further integrated into a handheld breath testing prototype, the Ketowhistle, which can successfully detect different ranges of acetone concentrations in simulated breath. The Ketowhistle demonstrates immediate potential for non-invasive ketone testing and monitoring for persons living with diabetes, in particular for DKA prevention.

SSIF: Learning Continuous Image Representation for Spatial-Spectral Super-Resolution

Existing digital sensors capture images at fixed spatial and spectral resolutions (e.g., RGB, multispectral, and hyperspectral images), and each combination requires bespoke machine learning models. Neural Implicit Functions partially overcome the spatial resolution challenge by representing an image in a resolution-independent way. However, they still operate at fixed, pre-defined spectral resolutions. To address this challenge, we propose Spatial-Spectral Implicit Function (SSIF), a neural implicit model that represents an image as a function of both continuous pixel coordinates in the spatial domain and continuous wavelengths in the spectral domain. We empirically demonstrate the effectiveness of SSIF on two challenging spatio-spectral super-resolution benchmarks. We observe that SSIF consistently outperforms state-of-the-art baselines even when the baselines are allowed to train separate models at each spectral resolution. We show that SSIF generalizes well to both unseen spatial resolutions and spectral resolutions. Moreover, SSIF can generate high-resolution images that improve the performance of downstream tasks (e.g., land use classification) by 1.7%-7%.

On the Opportunities and Challenges of Foundation Models for Geospatial Artificial Intelligence

Large pre-trained models, also known as foundation models (FMs), are trained in a task-agnostic manner on large-scale data and can be adapted to a wide range of downstream tasks by fine-tuning, few-shot, or even zero-shot learning. Despite their successes in language and vision tasks, we have yet seen an attempt to develop foundation models for geospatial artificial intelligence (GeoAI). In this work, we explore the promises and challenges of developing multimodal foundation models for GeoAI. We first investigate the potential of many existing FMs by testing their performances on seven tasks across multiple geospatial subdomains including Geospatial Semantics, Health Geography, Urban Geography, and Remote Sensing. Our results indicate that on several geospatial tasks that only involve text modality such as toponym recognition, location description recognition, and US state-level/county-level dementia time series forecasting, these task-agnostic LLMs can outperform task-specific fully-supervised models in a zero-shot or few-shot learning setting. However, on other geospatial tasks, especially tasks that involve multiple data modalities (e.g., POI-based urban function classification, street view image-based urban noise intensity classification, and remote sensing image scene classification), existing foundation models still underperform task-specific models. Based on these observations, we propose that one of the major challenges of developing a FM for GeoAI is to address the multimodality nature of geospatial tasks. After discussing the distinct challenges of each geospatial data modality, we suggest the possibility of a multimodal foundation model which can reason over various types of geospatial data through geospatial alignments. We conclude this paper by discussing the unique risks and challenges to develop such a model for GeoAI.

Self-powered InP Nanowire Photodetector for Single Photon Level Detection at Room Temperature

Highly sensitive photodetectors with single photon level detection is one of the key components to a range of emerging technologies, in particular the ever-growing field of optical communication, remote sensing, and quantum computing. Currently, most of the single-photon detection technologies require external biasing at high voltages and/or cooling to low temperatures, posing great limitations for wider applications. Here, we demonstrate InP nanowire array photodetectors that can achieve single-photon level light detection at room temperature without an external bias. We use top-down etched, heavily doped p-type InP nanowires and n-type AZO/ZnO carrier selective contact to form a radial p-n junction with a built-in electric field exceeding 3x10^5 V/cm at 0 V. The device exhibits broadband light sensitivity and can distinguish a single photon per pulse from the dark noise at 0 V, enabled by its design to realize near-ideal broadband absorption, extremely low dark current, and highly efficient charge carrier separation. Meanwhile, the bandwidth of the device reaches above 600 MHz with a timing jitter of 538 ps. The proposed device design provides a new pathway towards low-cost, high-sensitivity, self-powered photodetectors for numerous future applications.

Ultralow Threshold, Single-Mode InGaAs/GaAs Multi-Quantum Disk Nanowire Lasers

We present single-mode nanowire (NW) lasers with ultralow threshold in the near-infrared spectral range. To ensure the single-mode operation, the NW diameter and length are reduced specifically to minimize the longitudinal and transverse modes of the NW cavity. Increased optical losses and reduced gain volume by the dimension reduction are compensated by excellent NW morphology and InGaAs/GaAs multi-quantum disks. At 5 K, a threshold low as 1.6 μJ/cm2 per pulse is achieved with a resulting quality factor exceeding 6400. By further passivating the NW with an AlGaAs shell to suppress surface non-radiative recombination, single-mode lasing operation is obtained with a threshold of only 48 μJ/cm2 per pulse at room temperature with a high characteristic temperature of 223 K and power output of ~ 0.9 μW. These single-mode, ultralow threshold, high power output NW lasers are promising for the development of near-infrared nanoscale coherent light sources for integrated photonic circuits, sensing, and spectroscopy.

Event vertex and time reconstruction in large volume liquid scintillator detector

Large-volume liquid scintillator detectors with ultra-low background levels have been widely used to study neutrino physics and search for dark matter. Event vertex and event time are not only useful for event selection but also essential for the reconstruction of event energy. In this study, four event vertex and event time reconstruction algorithms using charge and time information collected by photomultiplier tubes were analyzed comprehensively. The effects of photomultiplier tube properties were also investigated. The results indicate that the transit time spread is the main effect degrading the vertex reconstruction, while the effect of dark noise is limited. In addition, when the event is close to the detector boundary, the charge information provides better performance for vertex reconstruction than the time information.

Vertex and Energy Reconstruction in JUNO with Machine Learning Methods

The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) is an experiment designed to study neutrino oscillations. Determination of neutrino mass ordering and precise measurement of neutrino oscillation parameters $\sin^2 2θ_{12}$, $Δm^2_{21}$ and $Δm^2_{32}$ are the main goals of the experiment. A rich physical program beyond the oscillation analysis is also foreseen. The ability to accurately reconstruct particle interaction events in JUNO is of great importance for the success of the experiment. In this work we present a few machine learning approaches applied to the vertex and the energy reconstruction. Multiple models and architectures were compared and studied, including Boosted Decision Trees (BDT), Deep Neural Networks (DNN), a few kinds of Convolution Neural Networks (CNN), based on ResNet and VGG, and a Graph Neural Network based on DeepSphere. Based on a study, carried out using the dataset, generated by the official JUNO software, we demonstrate that machine learning approaches achieve the necessary level of accuracy for reaching the physical goals of JUNO: $σ_E=3\%$ at $E_\text{vis}=1~\text{MeV}$ for the energy and $σ_{x,y,z}=10~\text{cm}$ at $E_\text{vis}=1~\text{MeV}$ for the position.
