$Λ(t)$CDM Model as a Unified Origin of Holographic and Agegraphic Dark Energy Models

Motivated by the fact that any nonzero $Λ$ can introduce a length scale or a time scale into Einstein's theory, $r_Λ=ct_Λ=\sqrt{3/|Λ|}$. Conversely, any cosmological length scale or time scale can introduce a $Λ(t)$, $Λ(t)=3/r^2_Λ(t)=3/(c^2t^2_Λ(t))$. In this letter, we investigate the time varying $Λ(t)$ corresponding to the length scales, including the Hubble horizon, the particle horizon and the future event horizon, and the time scales, including the age of the universe and the conformal time. It is found out that, in this scenario, the $Λ(t)$CDM model can be taken as the unified origin of the holographic and agegraphic dark energy models with interaction between the matter and the dark energy, where the interacting term is determined by $Q=-\dotρ_Λ$. We place observational constraints on the $Λ(t)$CDM models originating from different cosmological length scales and time scales with the recently compiled "Union2 compilation" which consists of 557 Type Ia supernovae (SNIa) covering a redshift range $0.015\leq z \leq 1.4$. In conclusion, an accelerating expansion universe can be derived in the cases taking the Hubble horizon, the future event horizon, the age of the universe and the conformal time as the length scale or the time scale.

The distance duality relation and the temperature profile of Galaxy Clusters

The validity of distance duality relation, $η=D_L(z)(1+z)^{-2}/D_A(z)=1$, an exact result required by the Etherington reciprocity theorem, where $D_A(z)$ and $D_L(z)$ are the angular and luminosity distances, plays an essential part in cosmological observations and model constraints. In this paper, we investigate some consequences of such a relation by assuming $η$ a constant or a function of the redshift. In order to constrain the parameters concerning $η$, we consider two groups of cluster gas mass fraction data including 52 X-ray luminous galaxy clusters observed by Chandra in the redshift range $0.3\sim 1.273$ and temperature range $T_{\rm gas}> 4$ keV, under the assumptions of two different temperature profiles [1]. We find that the constant temperature profile is in relatively good agreement with no violation of the distance duality relation for both parameterizations of $η$, while the one with temperature gradient (the Vikhlinin et al. temperature profile) seems to be incompatible even at 99% CL.

Stochastic Gravitational Wave Background from Neutron Star r-mode Instability Revisited

We revisit the possibility and detectability of a stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB) produced by a cosmological population of newborn neutron stars (NSs) with r-mode instabilities. We show that the resultant SGWB is insensitive to the choice of CSFR models, but depends strongly on the evolving behavior of CSFR at low redshifts. Our results show that the dimensionless energy density $Ω_{\rm{GW}}$ could have a peak amplitude of $\simeq (1-3.5) \times10^{-8}$ in the frequency range $(200-1000)$~Hz. However, such a high mode amplitude is unrealistic as it is known that the maximum value is much smaller and at most $10^{-2}$. A realistic estimate of $Ω_{\rm{GW}}$ should be at least 4 orders of magnitude lower ($\sim 10^{-12}$), which leads to a pessimistic outlook for the detection of r-mode background. We consider different pairs of terrestrial interferometers (IFOs) and compare two approaches to combine multiple IFOs in order to evaluate the detectability of this GW background. Constraints on the total emitted GW energy associated with this mechanism to produce a detectable stochastic background are $\sim 10^{-3} M_{\odot} c^2$ for two co-located advanced LIGO detectors, and $2 \times 10^{-5} M_{\odot} c^2$ for two Einstein Telescopes. These constraints may also be applicable to alternative GW emission mechanisms related to oscillations or instabilities in NSs depending on the frequency band where most GWs are emitted.

Combining Optical and X-ray Observations of Galaxy Clusters to Constrain Cosmological Parameters

Galaxy clusters have their unique advantages for cosmology. Here we collect a new sample of 10 lensing galaxy clusters with X-ray observations to constrain cosmological parameters. The redshifts of lensing clusters lie between 0.1 and 0.6, and the redshift range of their arcs is from 0.4 to 4.9. These clusters are selected carefully from strong gravitational lensing systems which have both X-ray satellite observations and optical giant luminous arcs with known redshift. Giant arcs usually appear in the central region of clusters, where mass can be traced with luminosity quite well. Based on gravitational lensing theory and cluster mass distribution model we can derive an Hubble constant independent ratio between two angular diameter distances. One is the distance of lensing source and the other is that between the deflector and the source. Since angular diameter distance relies heavily on cosmological geometry, we can use these ratios to constrain cosmological models. Meanwhile X-ray gas fractions of galaxy clusters can also be a cosmological probe. Because there are a dozen parameters to be fitted, we introduce a new analytic algorithm, Powell's UOBYQA (Unconstrained Optimization By Quadratic Approximation), to accelerate our calculation. Our result proves that this algorithm is an effective fitting method for such continuous multi-parameter constraint. We find an interesting fact that these two approaches are sensitive to $Ω_Λ$ and $Ω_{M}$ separately. Combining them we can get quite good fitting values of basic cosmological parameters: $Ω_{M}=0.26_{-0.04}^{+0.04}$, and $Ω_Λ=0.82_{-0.16}^{+0.14}$ .

Color Behavior Of BL Lacertae Object OJ 287 During Optical Outburst

This paper aims to study the color behavior of the BL Lac object OJ 287 during optical outburst. According to the revisit of the data from the OJ-94 monitoring project and the analysis the data obtained with the 60/90 cm Schmidt Telescope of NAOC, we found a bluer-when-brighter chromatism in this object. The amplitude of variation tends to decrease with the decrease of frequency. These results are consistent with the shock-in-jet model. We made some simulations and confirmed that both amplitude difference and time delay between variations at different wavelengths can result in the phenomenon of bluer-when-brighter. Our observations confirmed that OJ 287 underwent a double-peaked outburst after about 12 years from 1996, which provides further evidence for the binary black hole model in this object.

Improved cosmological constraints on the curvature and equation of state of dark energy

We apply the Constitution compilation of 397 supernova Ia, the baryon acoustic oscillation measurements including the $A$ parameter, the distance ratio and the radial data, the five-year Wilkinson microwave anisotropy probe and the Hubble parameter data to study the geometry of the universe and the property of dark energy by using the popular Chevallier-Polarski-Linder and Jassal-Bagla-Padmanabhan parameterizations. We compare the simple $χ^2$ method of joined contour estimation and the Monte Carlo Markov chain method, and find that it is necessary to make the marginalized analysis on the error estimation. The probabilities of $Ω_k$ and $w_a$ in the Chevallier-Polarski-Linder model are skew distributions, and the marginalized $1σ$ errors are $Ω_m=0.279^{+0.015}_{-0.008}$, $Ω_k=0.005^{+0.006}_{-0.011}$, $w_0=-1.05^{+0.23}_{-0.06}$, and $w_a=0.5^{+0.3}_{-1.5}$. For the Jassal-Bagla-Padmanabhan model, the marginalized $1σ$ errors are $Ω_m=0.281^{+0.015}_{-0.01}$, $Ω_k=0.000^{+0.007}_{-0.006}$, $w_0=-0.96^{+0.25}_{-0.18}$, and $w_a=-0.6^{+1.9}_{-1.6}$. The equation of state parameter $w(z)$ of dark energy is negative in the redshift range $0\le z\le 2$ at more than $3σ$ level. The flat $Λ$CDM model is consistent with the current observational data at the $1σ$ level.

Noether Symmetry Approach in multiple scalar fields Scenario

In this Letter, we find suitable potentials in the multiple scalar fields scenario by using the Noether symmetry approach. We discussed three models with multiple scalar fields: N-quintessence with positive kinetic terms, N-phantom with negative kinetic terms and N-quintom with both positive and negative kinetic terms. In the N-quintessence case, the exponential potential which could be derived from several theoretic models is obtained from the Noether conditions. In the N-phantom case, the potential $\frac{V_{0}}{2}(1-\cos(\sqrt{\frac{3N}{2}}\fracϕ{m_{pl}}))$, which could be derived from the Pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson model, is chosen as the Noether conditions required. In the N-quintom case, we derive a relation $DV'_{ϕq}=-\tilde{D}V'_{ϕp}$ between the potential forms for the quintessence-like fields and the phantom-like fields by using the Noether symmetry.

Noether Symmetry Approach in "Cosmic Triad" Vector Field Scenario

To realize the accelerations in the early and late periods of our universe, we need to specify potentials for the dominant fields. In this paper, by using the Noether symmetry approach, we try to find suitable potentials in the "cosmic triad" vector field scenario. Because the equation of state parameter of dark energy has been constrained in the range of $-1.21\leq ω\leq -0.89$ by observations, we derive the Noether conditions for the vector field in quintessence, phantom and quintom models, respectively. In the first two cases, constant potential solutions have been obtained. What is more, a fast decaying point-like solution with power-law potential is also found for the vector field in quintessence model. For the quintom case, we find an interesting constraint $\tilde{C}V_{p}'=-CV_{q}'$ on the field potentials, where $C$ and $\tilde{C}$ are constants related to the Noether symmetry.

Using a phenomenological model to test the coincidence problem of dark energy

By assuming a phenomenological form for the ratio of the DE and DM densities $ρ_X\propto ρ_{m} a^ξ$ (Dalal et al.2001), we discuss the cosmic coincidence problem in light of current observational data. $ξ$ is a key parameter to denote the severity of the coincidence problem. In this scenario, $ξ=3$ and $ξ=0$ correspond to $Λ$CDM and the self-similar solution without coincidence problem, respectively. Hence, any solution with a scaling parameter $0<ξ<3$ makes the coincidence problem less severe. In addition, the standard cosmology without interaction between DE and DM is characterized by $ξ+3ω_X=0$, whereas the inequality $ξ+3ω_X\neq 0$ represents non-standard cosmology. We place observational constraints on the parameters $(Ω_{X,0},ω_{X},ξ)$ of this model, by using the Constitution Set, the CMB shift parameter from the 5-year WMAP and the SDSS baryon acoustic peak. Combining the three samples, we get $Ω_{X,0}=0.72\pm0.02$, $ω_{X}=-0.98\pm0.07$ and $ξ=3.06\pm0.35$ at 68.3% confidence level. The result shows that the $Λ$CDM model still remains a good fit to the recent observational data, as well as, the coincidence problem indeed exists and is quite severe, in the framework of this simple phenomenological model. We further constrain the model with the transition redshift (deceleration / acceleration). It shows that if the transition from deceleration to acceleration happens at the redshit $z > 0.73$, within the framework of this model, we can conclude that the interaction between DE and DM is necessary.

Observational constraint on dynamical evolution of dark energy

We use the Constitution supernova, the baryon acoustic oscillation, the cosmic microwave background, and the Hubble parameter data to analyze the evolution property of dark energy. We obtain different results when we fit different baryon acoustic oscillation data combined with the Constitution supernova data to the Chevallier-Polarski-Linder model. We find that the difference stems from the different values of $Ω_{m0}$. We also fit the observational data to the model independent piecewise constant parametrization. Four redshift bins with boundaries at $z=0.22$, 0.53, 0.85 and 1.8 were chosen for the piecewise constant parametrization of the equation of state parameter $w(z)$ of dark energy. We find no significant evidence for evolving $w(z)$. With the addition of the Hubble parameter, the constraint on the equation of state parameter at high redshift isimproved by 70%. The marginalization of the nuisance parameter connected to the supernova distance modulus is discussed.

Time drift of subtended angles as a new cosmological probe

We here propose the time drift of subtended angles as a new possible cosmological probe. In particular, with the coming era of microarcsecond astrometry, our proposal can be used to measure the Hubble expansion rate of our universe in a direct way.

Does Unruh radiation accelerate the universe? A novel approach to the cosmic acceleration

We present a novel mechanism for the present acceleration of the universe. We find that the temperature of the Unruh radiation perceived by the brane is not equal to the inherent temperature (Hawking temperature at the apparent horizon) of the brane universe in the frame of Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) braneworld model. The Unruh radiation perceived by a dust dominated brane is always warmer than the brane measured by the geometric temperature, which naturally induces an energy flow between bulk and brane based on the most sound thermodynamics principles. Through a thorough investigation to the microscopic mechanism of interaction between bulk Unruh radiation and brane matter, we put forward that an energy influx from bulk Unruh radiation to the dust matter on the brane accelerates the universe.

A generalized equation of state for dark energy

A generalized parameterization $w_β(z)$ for the dark energy equation of state (EoS) is proposed and some of its cosmological consequences are investigated. We show that in the limit of the characteristic dimensionless parameter $β\to +1, 0$ and -1 some well-known EoS parameterizations are fully recovered whereas for other values of $β$ the proposed parameterization admits a wider and new range of cosmological solutions. We also discuss possible constraints on the $w_β(z)$ parameters from current observational data.

Hybrid Chaplygin gas and phantom divide crossing

Hybrid Chaplygin gas model is put forward, in which the gases play the role of dark energy. For this model the coincidence problem is greatly alleviated. The effective equation of state of the dark energy may cross the phantom divide $w=-1$. Furthermore, the crossing behaviour is decoupled from any gravity theories. In the present model, $w<-1$ is only a transient behaviour. There is a de Sitter attractor in the future infinity. Hence, the big rip singularity, which often afflicts the models with matter whose effective equation of state less than -1, is naturally disappear. There exist stable scaling solutions, both at the early universe and the late universe. We discuss the perturbation growth of this model. We find that the index is consistent with observations.

A quantitative criteria for the coincidence problem

The cosmic coincidence problem is a serious challenge to dark energy model. We suggest a quantitative criteria for judging the severity of the coincidence problem. Applying this criteria to three different interacting models, including the interacting quintessence, interacting phantom, and interacting Chaplygin gas models, we find that the interacting Chaplygin gas model has a better chance to solve the coincidence problem. Quantitatively, we find that the coincidence index C for the interacting Chaplygin gas model is smaller than that for the interacting quintessence and phantom models by six orders of magnitude.

A new class of plane symmetric solution

A new class of static plane symmetric solution of Einstein field equation generated by a perfect fluid source is put forward. A special family of this new solution is investigated in detail. The constraints on the parameters by different energy conditions are studied. The classical stability of this solution is discussed. The junction conditions matching to Minkowski metric and Taub metric are analyzed respectively.

Critical comments on the paper "Crossing $ω=-1$ by a single scalar field on a Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati brane" by H Zhang and Z-H Zhu [Phys.Rev.D75,023510(2007)]

It is demonstrated that the claim in the paper "Crossing $ω=-1$ by a single scalar field on a Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati brane" by H Zhang and Z-H Zhu [Phys.Rev.D75,023510(2007)], about a prove that there do not exist scaling solutions in a universe with dust in a Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) braneworld scenario, is incorrect.

Probing the nature of cosmic acceleration

The cosmic acceleration is one of the most significant cosmological discoveries over the last century. The two categories of explanation are exotic component (dark energy) and modified gravity. We constrain the two types of model by a joint analysis with perturbation growth and direct $H(z)$ data. Though the minimal $χ^2$ of the $Λ$CDM is almost the same as that of DGP, in the sense of consistency we find that the dark energy ($Λ$CDM) model is more favored through a detailed comparison with the corresponding parameters fitted by expansion data.
