Enhancing Adversarial Robustness in Network Intrusion Detection: A Layer-wise Adaptive Regularization Approach

The new wave of adversarial attacks that utilize gradient-related vulnerabilities in neural network-based classifiers makes Network Intrusion Detection Systems more open to such threats. Although state-of-the-art adversarial training methods have shown promising results in producing more robust classifiers, their interpretability and defense ability are limited due to their lack of understanding of how adversarial attacks propagate in different layers of network classifiers. In this paper, we present an insightful approach, called LARAR (Layer-wise Adversarial Robustness using Adaptive Regularization), that incorporates additional layer-wise vulnerability analysis and adaptive weighting in conventional adversarial training methods. Additionally, we utilize 'Auxiliary Classifiers' in our approach. LARAR provides interpretable layer-wise vulnerability scores, achieves a clean accuracy of 95.01%, and provides better robustness against adversarial attacks (FGSM, PGD, and transfer attacks) on the UNSW-NB15 dataset. Through the identification of vulnerable layers, the proposed framework reduces computational complexity and enables the early detection of adversarial samples, thus enhancing the effectiveness and interpretability of adversarial defense mechanisms in NIDS.

Security in Next Generation Mobile Payment Systems: A Comprehensive Survey

Cash payment is still king in several markets, accounting for more than 90\ of the payments in almost all the developing countries. The usage of mobile phones is pretty ordinary in this present era. Mobile phones have become an inseparable friend for many users, serving much more than just communication tools. Every subsequent person is heavily relying on them due to multifaceted usage and affordability. Every person wants to manage his/her daily transactions and related issues by using his/her mobile phone. With the rise and advancements of mobile-specific security, threats are evolving as well. In this paper, we provide a survey of various security models for mobile phones. We explore multiple proposed models of the mobile payment system (MPS), their technologies and comparisons, payment methods, different security mechanisms involved in MPS, and provide analysis of the encryption technologies, authentication methods, and firewall in MPS. We also present current challenges and future directions of mobile phone security.

Content based Zero-Watermarking Algorithm for Authentication of Text Documents

Copyright protection and authentication of digital contents has become a significant issue in the current digital epoch with efficient communication mediums such as internet. Plain text is the rampantly used medium used over the internet for information exchange and it is very crucial to verify the authenticity of information. There are very limited techniques available for plain text watermarking and authentication. This paper presents a novel zero-watermarking algorithm for authentication of plain text. The algorithm generates a watermark based on the text contents and this watermark can later be extracted using extraction algorithm to prove the authenticity of text document. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithm against tampering attacks identifying watermark accuracy and distortion rate on 10 different text samples of varying length and attacks.
