Factorization dynamics and Coxeter-Toda lattices

It is shown that the factorization relation on simple Lie groups with standard Poisson Lie structure restricted to Coxeter symplectic leaves gives an integrable dynamical system. This system can be regarded as a discretization of the Toda flow. In case of $SL_n$ the integrals of the factorization dynamics are integrals of the relativistic Toda system. A substantial part of the paper is devoted to the study of symplectic leaves in simple complex Lie groups, its Borel subgroups and their doubles.

On the large time asymptotics of decaying Burgers turbulence

The decay of Burgers turbulence with compactly supported Gaussian "white noise" initial conditions is studied in the limit of vanishing viscosity and large time. Probability distribution functions and moments for both velocities and velocity differences are computed exactly, together with the "time-like" structure functions . The analysis of the answers reveals both well known features of Burgers turbulence, such as the presence of dissipative anomaly, the extreme anomalous scaling of the velocity structure functions and self similarity of the statistics of the velocity field, and new features such as the extreme anomalous scaling of the "time-like" structure functions and the non-existence of a global inertial scale due to multiscaling of the Burgers velocity field. We also observe that all the results can be recovered using the one point probability distribution function of the shock strength and discuss the implications of this fact for Burgers turbulence in general.

Conformal maps and dispersionless integrable hierarchies

We show that conformal maps of simply connected domains with an analytic boundary to a unit disk have an intimate relation to the dispersionless 2D Toda integrable hierarchy. The maps are determined by a particular solution to the hierarchy singled out by the conditions known as "string equations". The same hierarchy locally solves the 2D inverse potential problem, i.e. reconstruction of the domain out of a set of its harmonic moments. This is the same solution which is known to describe 2D gravity coupled to c=1 matter. We also introduce a concept of the $τ$-function for analytic curves.

Non-local conservation laws and flow equations for supersymmetric integrable hierarchies

An infinite series of Grassmann-odd and Grassmann-even flow equations is defined for a class of supersymmetric integrable hierarchies associated with loop superalgebras. All these flows commute with the mutually commuting bosonic ones originally considered to define these hierarchies and, hence, provide extra fermionic and bosonic symmetries that include the built-in N=1 supersymmetry transformation. The corresponding non-local conserved quantities are also constructed. As an example, the particular case of the principal supersymmetric hierarchies associated with the affine superalgebras with a fermionic simple root system is discussed in detail.

Some Classes of Solutions to the Toda Lattice Hierarchy

We apply an analogue of the Zakharov-Shabat dressing method to obtain infinite matrix solutions to the Toda lattice hierarchy. Using an operator transformation we convert some of these into solutions in terms of integral operators and Fredholm determinants. Others are converted into a class of operator solutions to the $l$-periodic Toda hierarchy.

Quantized Lax Equations and Their Solutions

Integrable systems on quantum groups are investigated. The Heisenberg equations possessing the Lax form are solved in terms of the solution to the factorization problem on the corresponding quantum group.

Irreducible Representations of an Algebra underlying Hidden Symmetries of a class of Quasi Exactly Solvable Systems of Equations

The set of linear, differential operators preserving the vector space of couples of polynomials of degrees n and n-2 in one real variable leads to an abstract associative graded algebra A(2). The irreducible, finite dimensional representations of this algebra are classified into five infinite discrete sets and one exceptional case. Their matrix elements are given explicitely. The results are related to the theory of quasi exactly solvable equations.

The Calogero-Sutherland Model and Generalized Classical Polynomials

Multivariable generalizations of the classical Hermite, Laguerre and Jacobi polynomials occur as the polynomial part of the eigenfunctions of certain Schrödinger operators for Calogero-Sutherland-type quantum systems. For the generalized Hermite and Laguerre polynomials the multidimensional analogues of many classical results regarding generating functions, differentiation and integration formulas, recurrence relations and summation theorems are obtained. We use this and related theory to evaluate the global limit of the ground state density, obtaining in the Hermite case the Wigner semi-circle law, and to give an explicit solution for an initial value problem in the Hermite and Laguerre case.

Completely Integrable Equation for the Quantum Correlation Function of Nonlinear Schrödinger Eqaution

Correlation functions of exactly solvable models can be described by differential equation [Barough, McCoy, Wu]. In this paper we show that for non free fermionic case differential equations should be replaced by integro-differential equations. We derive an integro-differential equation, which describes time and temperature dependent correlation function $<ψ(0,0)ψ^\dagger(x,t)>_T$ of penetrable Bose gas. The integro-differential equation turns out be the continuum generalization of classical nonlinear Schrödinger equation.

Separation of variables for the Ruijsenaars system

We construct a separation of variables for the classical n-particle Ruijsenaars system (the relativistic analog of the elliptic Calogero-Moser system). The separated coordinates appear as the poles of the properly normalised eigenvector (Baker-Akhiezer function) of the corresponding Lax matrix. Two different normalisations of the BA functions are analysed. The canonicity of the separated variables is verified with the use of r-matrix technique. The explicit expressions for the generating function of the separating canonical transform are given in the simplest cases n=2 and n=3. Taking nonrelativistic limit we also construct a separation of variables for the elliptic Calogero-Moser system.

Hidden Symmetries of the Principal Chiral Model Unveiled

By relating the two-dimensional U(N) Principal Chiral Model to a simple linear system we obtain a free-field parametrisation of solutions. Obvious symmetry transformations on the free-field data give symmetries of the model. In this way all known `hidden symmetries' and Bäcklund transformations, as well as a host of new symmetries, arise.

Asymptotics of a Class of Solutions to the Cylindrical Toda Equations

The small t asymptotics of a class of solutions to the 2D cylindrical Toda equations is computed. The solutions, q_k(t), have the representation q_k(t) = log det(I-lambda K_k) - log det(I-lambda K_{k-1}) where K_k are integral operators. This class includes the n-periodic cylindrical Toda equations. For n=2 our results reduce to the previously computed asymptotics of the 2D radial sinh-Gordon equation and for n=3 (and with an additional symmetry contraint) they reduce to earlier results for the radial Bullough-Dodd equation.

Method of Squared Eigenfunction Potentials in Integrable Hierarchies of KP Type

The method of squared eigenfunction potentials (SEP) is developed systematically to describe and gain new information about Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) hierarchy and its reductions. Interrelation to the tau-function method is discussed in detail. The principal result, which forms the basis of our SEP method, is the proof that any eigenfunction of the general KP hierarchy can be represented as a spectral integral over the Baker-Akhiezer (BA) wave function with a spectral density expressed in terms of SEP. In fact, the spectral representations of the (adjoint) BA functions can, in turn, be considered as defining equations for the KP hierarchy. The SEP method is subsequently used to show how the reduction of the full KP hierarchy to the constrained KP hierarchies can be given entirely in terms of linear constraint equations on the pertinent tau-functions. The concept of SEP turns out to be crucial in providing a description of constrained KP hierarchies in the language of universal Sato Grassmannian and finding the non-isospectral Virasoro symmetry generators acting on the underlying tau-functions. The SEP method is used to write down generalized binary Darboux-Backlund transformations for constrained KP hierarchies whose orbits are shown to correspond to a new Toda model on a square lattice. As a result, we obtain a series of new determinant solutions for the tau-functions generalizing the known Wronskian (multi-soliton) solutions. Finally, applications to random matrix models in condensed matter physics are briefly discussed.

Bihamiltonian Geometry, Darboux Coverings, and Linearization of the KP Hierarchy

We use ideas of the geometry of bihamiltonian manifolds, developed by Gel'fand and Zakharevich, to study the KP equations. In this approach they have the form of local conservation laws, and can be traded for a system of ordinary differential equations of Riccati type, which we call the Central System. We show that the latter can be linearized by means of a Darboux covering, and we use this procedure as an alternative technique to construct rational solutions of the KP equations.

Bihamiltonian Hierarchies in 2D Topological Field Theory At One-Loop Approximation

We compute the genus one correction to the integrable hierarchy describing coupling to gravity of a 2D topological field theory. The bihamiltonian structure of the hierarchy is given by a classical W-algebra; we compute the central charge of this algebra. We also express the generating function of elliptic Gromov - Witten invariants via tau-function of the isomonodromy deformation problem arising in the theory of WDVV equations of associativity.

The Many-Electron System in the Forward, Exchange and BCS Approximation

The nonrelativistic many-electron system in the forward, exchange and BCS approximation is considered. In this approximation, which is still quartic in the annihilation and creation operators, the model is explicitly solvable for arbitrary space dimension d. The partition function and the correlation functions are given by finite-dimensional integral representations. Renormalization effects as well as symmetry breaking can be seen explicitly. It is shown that the usual mean field approach, based on approximating the Hamiltonian by a quadratic expression, may be misleading if the electron-electron interaction contains higher angular momentum terms and the space dimension is d=3. The perturbation theory of the solvable model is discussed. There are cases where the logarithm of the partition function has positive radius of convergence but the sum of all connected diagrams has radius of convergence zero implying that the linked cluster theorem is not applicable in these cases.

Vertex operator solutions to the discrete KP-hierarchy

Vertex operators, which are disguised Darboux maps, transform solutions of the KP equation into new ones. In this paper, we show that the bi-infinite sequence obtained by Darboux transforming an arbitrary KP solution recursively forward and backwards, yields a solution to the discrete KP-hierarchy. The latter is a KP hierarchy where the continuous space x-variable gets replaced by a discrete n-variable. The fact that these sequences satisfy the discrete KP hierarchy is tantamount to certain bilinear relations connecting the consecutive KP solutions in the sequence. At the Grassmannian level, these relations are equivalent to a very simple fact, which is the nesting of the associated infinite-dimensional planes (flag). It turns out that many new and old systems lead to such discrete (semi-infinite) solutions, like sequences of soliton solutions, with more and more solitons, sequences of Calogero-Moser systems, having more and more particles, band matrices, etc... ; this will be developped in another paper. In this paper, as an other example, we show that the q-KP hierarchy maps, via a kind of Fourier transform, into the discrete KP hierarchy, enabling us to write down a very large class of solutions to the q-KP hierarchy.

Separation of Variables in the Elliptic Gaudin Model

For the elliptic Gaudin model (a degenerate case of XYZ integrable spin chain) a separation of variables is constructed in the classical case. The corresponding separated coordinates are obtained as the poles of a suitably normalized Baker-Akhiezer function. The classical results are generalized to the quantum case where the kernel of separating integral operator is constructed. The simplest one-degree-of-freedom case is studied in detail.
