On the potential catastrophic risk from metastable quantum-black holes produced at particle colliders

The question of whether collider produced of subnuclear black holes might constitute a catastrophic risk is explored in a model of Casadio & Harms (2002) that treats them as quantum-mechanical objects. A plausible scenario in which these black holes accrete ambient matter at the Eddington limit shortly after their production, thereby emitting Hawking radiation that would be harmful to Earth and/or CERN and its surroundings, is described. Such black holes are shown to remain undetectable in existing astrophysical observations and thus evade a recent exclusion of risks from subnuclear black holes by Giddings & Mangano (2008) and and a similar one by Koch et al. (2009). I further question that these risk analyses are complete for the reason that they exclude plausible black-hole parameter ranges from safety consideration without giving any reason. Some feasible operational measures at colliders are proposed that would allow the lowering of any remaining risk probability. Giddings & Mangano drew different general conclusions only because they made different initial assumptions about the properties of microscopic black holes, not because any of their technical conclusions are incorrect. A critical comment by Giddings & Mangano (2008) on the present paper and a preprint by Casadio et al.(2009) - that presents a treatment of the present issue with methods and assumptions similar to mine - are addressed in appendices.

Discussions on a special static spherically symmetric perfect fluid solution of Einstein's equations

In this article, a special static spherically symmetric perfect fluid solution of Einstein's equations is provided. Though pressure and density both diverge at the origin, their ratio remains constant. The solution presented here fails to give positive pressure but nevertheless, it satisfies all energy conditions. In this new spacetime geometry, the metric becomes singular at some finite value of radial coordinate although, by using isotropic coordinates, this singularity could be avoided, as has been shown here. Some characteristics of this solution are also discussed.

Can the spinning of elementary particles produce the rest energy mc2? The vortex model of elementary particles

The Dirac equation describes the motion of electrons in electromagnetic field, but it considers spin as intrinsic property without any real motion. We postulate spin as the intrinsic feature of vacuum, in which the incident electromagnetic radiation can create vortices with well defined spinning frequency and completely undefined axis of rotation. The vortices have finite surface determined by the spinning frequency that makes the peripheral speed equal to the velocity of light. According to the Lorentz equations of special relativity, the product of radius and mass of rotating objects is independent of the frequency of rotation and it is equal to 3/4h/2pic for all fermions. This invariance explains how the light with infinite spatial dimension and zero mass can produce finite mass and size for the particles in the pair-creation processes. The vortex model interprets the rest energy as the kinetic energy of spinning motion. The isotropic character of spinning can be represented by helical motion with right or left-handed chirality corresponding to the duality of matter and anti-matter. Conservation rule is proposed for the chirality explaining the electron-positron annihilation and the pair-creation processes. The vortex induced field rotation around the particle can reproduce the gravitational formula if the curvature of field is derived from the Lorentz contraction on the surface of rotating sphere. Generalized Hamiltonian is suggested for the fermions describing the spinning motion in the internal frame of particles, it reproduces the Dirac equation, when the rest energy is predominant.

Signatures of Universal Characteristics of Fractal Fluctuations in Global Mean Monthly Temperature Anomalies

Selfsimilar space-time fractal fluctuations are generic to dynamical systems in nature such as atmospheric flows, heartbeat patterns, population dynamics, etc. The physics of the long-range correlations intrinsic to fractal fluctuations is not yet identified. It is important to quantify the physics underlying the irregular fractal fluctuations for predictability studies. A general systems theory for fractals visualizes the emergence of successively larger scale fluctuations to result from the space-time integration of enclosed smaller scale fluctuations. The model predictions are as follows. The probability distribution and the power spectrum for fractal fluctuations is the same inverse power law function incorporating the golden mean. The predicted distribution is close to the Gaussian distribution for small-scale fluctuations but exhibits fat long tail for large-scale fluctuations with higher probability of occurrence than predicted by Gaussian distribution. Since the power (variance i.e. square of eddy amplitude) spectrum also represents the probability densities as in the case of quantum systems such as the electron or photon, fractal fluctuations exhibit quantumlike chaos. The fine structure constant for spectrum of fractal fluctuations is a function of the golden mean and is analogous to atomic spectra equal to about 1/137. Global gridded time series data sets of monthly mean temperatures for the period 1880 - 2007/2008 are analysed to show that data sets and corresponding power spectra exhibit distributions close to the model predicted inverse power law distribution. The model predicted and observed universal spectrum for interannual variability rules out linear secular trends in global monthly mean temperatures. Global warming results in intensification of fluctuations of all scales and manifested immediately in high frequency fluctuations.

Linearized Turbulent Fluid Flow as an Analog Model for Linearized General Relativity (Gravitoelectromagnetism)

In the spirit of analog models of and for general relativity, we explore the isomorphism between the equations of linearized turbulent fluid flow and those of the linearized form of GR, gravitoelectromagnetism. The correspondence between the truncated Reynolds system for turbulent fluid flow and the Maxwell-like gravitoelectromagnetic equations for weak-field GR is shown to provide yet another example of the relationship between the representation of fluctuations in background media and curved spacetime formulations.

Relative-Velocity-Dependent Weber-type Models in Electromagnetism

This article reconsiders the relative-velocity-dependent approach to modeling electromagnetism that was proposed initially by Weber before data from cathode-ray-tube (CRT) experiments was available. It is shown that identifying the nonlinear, relative-velocity terms using CRT data results in a model, which not only captures standard relativistic effects in optics, high-energy particles, and gravitation, but also explains apparent discrepancies between predicted and measured energy (i) in high-energy-particle absorption experiments and (ii) in the classical beta-ray spectrum of radium-E.

The Kinematics of Circular Motion

In this paper we introduce a proposal for the kinematics of bodies in uniform circular motion. This model could contribute for the explanation of the two main problems of contemporary cosmology: dark matter and dark energy. We use one of the physical properties of space - the gravitational waves - to define a reference frame at rest with respect to the space and to determine a mechanism for the synchronization of clocks. So we derive through a Postulate the so-called transformations of Lorentz and a new velocity of the bodies in uniform circular motion. This rotational velocity could contribute to clarify both cosmological problems. This contribution would come from effects due to a single phenomenon: the rotational velocity of bodies with respect to the reference frame at rest on the space. And finally, we interpret physically the Postulate - the major point in this model - which allows, inclusive, a comparison with the Relativity Principle and also new theoretical previews.

Coordinate transformations in quaternion spaces

The quaternion spaces can be used to describe the property of electromagnetic field and gravitational field. In the quaternion space, some coordinate transformations can be deduced from the feature of quaternions, including Lorentz transformation and Galilean transformation etc., when the coordinate system is transformed into others. And some coordinate transformations with variable speed of light can be obtained in the electromagnetic field and gravitational field.

The Cambrian impact hypothesis

After a thorough research on the circumstantial changes and the great evolution of life in the Cambrian period, the author propounds such a hypothesis: During the Late Precambrian, about 500-600Ma, a celestial body impacted the Earth. The high temperature ended the great glaciation, facilitated the communication of biological information. The rapid change of Earth environment enkindled the genesis-control system, and released the HSP-90 variations. After the impact, benefited from the protection of the new ozone layer and the energy supplement of the aerobic respiration, those survived underground life exploded. They generated carapaces and complex metabolism to adjust to the new circumstance of high temperature and high pressure. This article uses a large amount of analyses and calculations, and illustrates that this hypothesis fits well with most of the important incidences in astronomic and geologic discoveries.

Electromagnetic Light in Medium of Polarized Atoms $^3$He

First, it is predicted that polarized atoms $^3$He increase a value of speed electromagnetic waves. This reasoning implies that the velocity of electromagnetic waves into gas consisting of polarized atoms $^3$He is rather than one in vacuum.

Colored Quaternion Dirac Particles of Charges 2/3 and -1/3

By starting with the simpliest expression of the first order linear wave equation (Dirac's equation) and by confining the elements of the coefficients (matrices) to the quaternions, it is shown that the association of the imaginary bases of the quaternions with three "colors" and their conserved currents results in quasi-particles with charges of 2/3 and -1/3 with a minimum of assumptions. It is shown how color neutral particles are required by Q covariance, first discussed by Finkelstein, et. al. in 1963.

Muon decays in the Earth's atmosphere, differential aging and the paradox of the twins

Observation of the decay of muons produced in the Earth's atmosphere by cosmic ray interactions provides a graphic illustration of the counter-intuitive space-time predictions of special relativity theory. Muons at rest in the atmosphere, decaying simultaneously, are subject to a universal time-dilatation effect when viewed from a moving frame and so are also observed to decay simultaneously in all such frames. The analysis of this example reveals the underlying physics of the differential aging effect in Langevin's travelling-twin thought experiment.

Discriminating properties of compactification in discrete uniform isotropic space-time

Compactification of the 5-dimensional Kaluza-Klein space-time geometry is considered. The space-time geometry is supposed to be discrete, uniform and isotropic. It is shown, that consideration of the space-time geometry as a physical geometry, i.e. as a geometry described completely by the single-valued world function, leads to a discrimination of some values of the particle charge. At the conventional approach, when the world function becomes to be many-valued after compactification, the value of the elementary particle electric charge remains to be unrestricted, and this fact does not agree with experimental data. It is important, that the discrete geometry is given on the continual set of points. This circumstance makes admissible a compatibility of discreteness with the uniformity and isotropy of the geometry.

Holographic indeterminacy and neutron stars

The holographic indeterminacy resulting from the quantization of spacetime leads to an inherent uncertainty (lpL)1/2 in the relative positions of two events, separated by a distance L, in a direction transverse to a null ray connecting the events, where lP is the Planck length. The new indeterminacy principle leads to a critical condition in which the holographic uncertainty in the relative transverse positions of two diametrically opposed particles on the surface a body becomes greater than the average distance between particles in the body. The Chandrasekhar mass and the characteristic nuclear density emerge as the minimum mass and density of a baryonic body that could meet the critical criteria. Neutron stars are therefore identified as a class of bodies in which holographic indeterminacy may have physical consequences.

Measuring the internal clock of the electron

The existence of an internal frequency associated to any elementary particle conjectured by de Broglie is compared with a classical description of the electron, where this internal structure corresponds to the motion of the centre of charge around the centre of mass of the particle. This internal motion has a frequency twice de Broglie's frequency, which corresponds to the frequency found by Dirac when analysing the electron structure. To get evidence of this internal electron clock a kind of experiment as the one performed by Gouanére et al. \cite{Gouanere} will show a discrete set of momenta at which a resonant scattering effect, appears. The resonant momenta of the electron beam are given by $p_k=161.748/k$ MeV$/c$, $k=1,2,3,...$, where only, the corresponding to $k=2$, was within the range of Gouanére et al. experiment. The extension of the experiment to other values of $p_k$, would show the existence of this phenomenon.

Theoretical Study for Deformation Kinetics of Glassy Solid Helium within Cylindrical Microtubes

The deformation kinetics for glassy solid helium confined in microscopic domain at very low temperature regime was investigated using a transition-rate model considering the shear thinning behavior which means, once material being subjected to high shear rates, the viscosity diminishes with increasing shear rate. The preliminary results show that there might be nearly frictionless fields for rate of deformation due to the almost vanishing shear stress in microtubes at very low temperature regime subjected to some surface conditions : The relatively larger roughness (compared to the macroscopic domain) inside microtubes and the slip. As the pore size decreases, the surface-to-volume ratio increases and therefore, surface roughness will greatly affect the deformation kinetics in microtubes. By using the boundary perturbation method, we obtained a class of temperature and activation energy dependent fields for the deformation kinetics at low temperature regime with the presumed small wavy roughness distributed along the walls of an cylindrical microtube. The critical deformation kinetics of the glassy matter is dependent upon the temperature, activation energy, activation volume, orientation dependent and is proportional to the (referenced) shear rate, the slip length, the amplitude and the orientation of the wavy-roughness. Finally, we also discuss the quantitative similarity between our results with Ray and Hallock [Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 100}, 235301 (2008)].

Massive Particles from Massless Spinors

Spinors are lightlike. How do they combine to make massive particles? We visit the zoo of Lagrangian singularities, or caustics, in spacetime projections from spin space- the phase space of lightlike, 8- spinor flows. We find that the species living there are the elementary particles. Codimension J=(1,2,3,4) phase singularities - vortex lines, sheets, tubes, and knots, are classified by the Coxeter groups generated by multiplicity s reflections: "mass scatterings" off the vacuum spinors, that keep chiral pairs of matter envelopes confined to a timelike world tube, endowing a bispinor particle with mass. Using the volume in spin space as the action, the particle masses emerge in terms of the multiplicities, s: the number of null zigzags needed to close a cycle of mass scatterings. These mass values (calculated to lowest order in the vacuum intensity) are within a few percent of the observed masses for the leptons (J=1) and hadrons (J=3) ; but are up to 25 percent off for the mesons (J=2).
