Each rule $f$ that assigns a vector $f(G)$ to an $(n+1)$-graph $G$ determines a class (or property) of $n$-manifold invariants. An invariant $v=v(M)$ is in this class if, for any triangulated manifold $|G|=M$, one has that $v(M)$ is a linear function of $f(G)$. This paper defines a flag vector $f(G)$ for $i$-graphs, whose associated invariants might be quantum, and which is of interest in its own right. The definition (via the concept of shelling, and a `disjoint pair of optional cells' rule for the link) seems to apply to any finite combinatorial object, and so to any compact topological object that can be triangulated. It also applies to finite groups.
The notion of Vassiliev algebra in case of hanlebodies is developed. The analogues of the results of John Baez for links in handlebodies are proved. That means that there exists a one-to-one correspondence between the special class of finite type invariants of links in hanlebodies and the homogeneous Markov traces on Vassiliev algebras. This approach uses the singular braid monoid and braid group in a handlebody and the generalizations of the theorem of J. Alexander and the theorem of A. A. Markov for singular links and braids and the relative version of Markov's theorem.
We show that the Hochschild cohomology of the algebra obtained by formal deformation quantization on a symplectic manifold is isomorphic to the formal series with coefficients in the de Rham cohomology of the manifold. The cohomology class obtained by differentiating the star-product with respect to the deformation parameter is seen to be closely related to the characteristic class of the quantization. A fundamental role in the analysis is played by ``quantum Liouville operators,'' which rescale the deformation parameter in the same way in which Liouville vector fields scale the Poisson structure (or the units of action). Several examples are given.
Borchers and Wiesbrock have demonstrated certain results concerning the one-parameter semigroups of endomorphisms of von Neumann algebras that appear as lightlike translations in the theory of algebras of local observables. These results are abstracted and analyzed as essentially operator-theoretic. Criteria are then demonstrated for a spatial derivation of a von Neumann algebra to generate a one-parameter semigroup of endomorphisms. All this is combined to establish a von Neumann-algebraic converse to the Borchers-Wiesbrock results. This analysis is then applied to questions of isotony and covariance for local algebras.
Multiple-integral representations of the (skew-)Macdonald symmetric functions are obtained. Some bosonization schemes for the integral representations are also constructed.
Functional relation for commuting quantum transfer matrices of quantum integrable models is identified with classical Hirota's bilinear difference equation. This equation is equivalent to the completely discretized classical 2D Toda lattice with open boundaries. The standard objects of quantum integrable models are identified with elements of classical nonlinear integrable difference equation. In particular, elliptic solutions of Hirota's equation give complete set of eigenvalues of the quantum transfer matrices. Eigenvalues of Baxter's $Q$-operator are solutions to the auxiliary linear problems for classical Hirota's equation. The elliptic solutions relevant to Bethe ansatz are studied. The nested Bethe ansatz equations for $A_{k-1}$-type models appear as discrete time equations of motions for zeros of classical $τ$-functions and Baker-Akhiezer functions. Determinant representations of the general solution to bilinear discrete Hirota's equation and a new determinant formula for eigenvalues of the quantum transfer matrices are obtained.
A general construction of an sh Lie algebra from a homological resolution of a Lie algebra is given. It is applied to the space of local functionals equipped with a Poisson bracket, induced by a bracket for local functions along the lines suggested by Gel'fand, Dickey and Dorfman. In this way, higher order maps are constructed which combine to form an sh Lie algebra on the graded differential algebra of horizontal forms. The same construction applies for graded brackets in field theory such as the Batalin-Fradkin-Vilkovisky bracket of the Hamiltonian BRST theory or the Batalin-Vilkovisky antibracket.
Let $P(N,V)$ denote the vector space of polynomials of maximal degree less than or equal to $N$ in $V$ independent variables. This space is preserved by the enveloping algebra generated by a set of linear, differential operators representing the Lie algebra $gl(V+1)$. We establish the counterpart of this property for the vector space $P(M,V) \oplus P(N,V)$ for any values of the integers $M,N,V$. We show that the operators preserving $P(M,V) \oplus P(N,V)$ generate an abstract superalgebra (non linear if $Δ=\mid M-N\mid\geq 2$). A family of algebras is also constructed, extending this particular algebra by $Δ-1$ arbitrary complex parameters.
We consider the universal solution of the Gervais-Neveu-Felder equation in the ${\cal U}_q(sl_2)$ case. We show that it has a quasi-Hopf algebra interpretation. We also recall its relation to quantum 3-j and 6-j symbols. Finally, we use this solution to build a q-deformation of the trigonometric Lamé equation.
In this paper we define an algebra structure on the vector space $L(Σ)$ generated by links in the manifold $Σ\times [0,1]$ where $Σ$ is an oriented surface. This algebra has a filtration and the associated graded algebra $L_{Gr}(Σ)$ is naturally a Poisson algebra. There is a Poisson algebra homomorphism from the algebra of chord diagrams $ch(Σ)$ on $Σ$ to $L_{Gr}(Σ)$. We show that multiplication in $L(Σ)$ provides a geometric way to define a deformation quantization of the algebra of chord diagrams, provided there is a universal Vassiliev invariant for links in $Σ\times [0,1]$. The quantization descends to a quantization of the moduli space of flat connections on $Σ$ and it is universal with respect to group homomorphisms. If $Σ$ is compact with free fundamental group we construct a universal Vassiliev invariant.
Let $Γ$ be an $N^2$-dimensional bicovariant first order differential calculus on a Hopf algebra $SL_q(N)$. There are three possibilities to construct a differential Z-graded Hopf algebra $Γ^\wedge$ which contains $Γ$ as its first order part. Let $q$ be a transcendental complex number. For $N>2$ these three Z-graded Hopf algebras coincide. For Woronowicz' external algebra we calculate the dimensions of the spaces of left-invariant and bi-invariant $k$-forms. In this case each bi-invariant form is closed. In case of $4D_\pm$ calculi on $SL_q(2)$ the universal calculus is strictly larger than the other two calculi. In particular, the bi-invariant 1-form is not closed.
This is a continuation of our "Lecture on Kac--Moody Lie algebras of the arithmetic type" \cite{25}. We consider hyperbolic (i.e. signature $(n,1)$) integral symmetric bilinear form $S:M\times M \to {\Bbb Z}$ (i.e. hyperbolic lattice), reflection group $W\subset W(S)$, fundamental polyhedron $\Cal M$ of $W$ and an acceptable (corresponding to twisting coefficients) set $P({\Cal M})\subset M$ of vectors orthogonal to faces of $\Cal M$ (simple roots). One can construct the corresponding Lorentzian Kac--Moody Lie algebra ${\goth g}={\goth g}^{\prime\prime}(A(S,W,P({\Cal M})))$ which is graded by $M$. We show that $\goth g$ has good behavior of imaginary roots, its denominator formula is defined in a natural domain and has good automorphic properties if and only if $\goth g$ has so called {\it restricted arithmetic type}. We show that every finitely generated (i.e. $P({\Cal M})$ is finite) algebra ${\goth g}^{\prime\prime}(A(S,W_1,P({\Cal M}_1)))$ may be embedded to ${\goth g}^{\prime\prime}(A(S,W,P({\Cal M})))$ of the restricted arithmetic type. Thus, Lorentzian Kac--Moody Lie algebras of the restricted arithmetic type is a natural class to study. Lorentzian Kac--Moody Lie algebras of the restricted arithmetic type have the best automorphic properties for the denominator function if they have {\it a lattice Weyl vector $ρ$}. Lorentzian Kac--Moody Lie algebras of the restricted arithmetic type with generalized lattice Weyl vector $ρ$ are called {\it elliptic}
We find automorphic corrections for the Lorentzian Kac--Moody algebras with the simplest generalized Cartan matrices of rank 3: A_{1,0} = 2 0 -1 0 2 -2 -1 -2 2 and A_{1,I} = 2 -2 -1 -2 2 -1 -1 -1 2 For A_{1,0} this correction is given by the Igusa Sp_4(Z)-modular form χ_{35} of weight 35, and for A_{1,I} by a Siege modular form of weight 30 with respect to a 2-congruence subgroup. We find infinite product or sum expansions for these forms. Our method of construction of χ_{35} leads to the direct construction of Siegel modular forms by infinite product expansions, whose divisors are the Humbert surfaces with fixed discriminants. Existence of these forms was proved by van der Geer in 1982 using some geometrical consideration. We announce a list of all hyperbolic symmetric generalized Cartan matrices A of rank 3 such that A has elliptic or parabolic type, A has a lattice Weyl vector, and A contains the affine submatrix \tilde{A}_1.
The correct Hamiltonian for an extended Hubbard model with quantum group symmetry as introduced by A. Montorsi and M. Rasetti is derived for a D-dimensional lattice. It is shown that the superconducting SUq(2) holds as a true quantum symmetry only for D = 1 and that terms of higher order in the fermionic operators in addition to phonons are required for a quantum symmetric hamiltonian. The condition for quantum symmetry is "half filling" and there is no local electron-phonon coupling. A discussion of Quantum symmetries in general is given in a formalism that should be readily accessible to non Hopf-algebraists.
We study models of quantum statistical mechanics which can be solved by the algebraic Bethe ansatz. The general method of calculation of correlation functions is based on the method of determinant representations. The auxiliary Fock space and auxiliary Bose fields are introduced in order to remove the two body scattering and represent correlation functions as a mean value of a determinant of a Fredholm integral operator; the representation has a simple form for large space and time separations. In this paper we explain how to calculate the mean value in the auxiliary Fock space of asymptotic expression of the Fredholm determinant. It is necessary for the evaluation of the asymptotic form of the physical correlation functions.
We explicitly evaluate the infinite series of integrals that appears in the "Anderson-Yuval" reformulation of the anisotropic Kondo problem in terms of a one-dimensional Coulomb gas. We do this by developing a general approach relating the anisotropic Kondo problem of arbitrary spin with the boundary sine-Gordon model, which describes impurity tunneling in a Luttinger liquid and in the fractional quantum Hall effect. The Kondo solution then follows from the exact perturbative solution of the latter model in terms of Jack polynomials.
We apply a recently proposed definition of a linear connection in non commutative geometry based on the natural bimodule structure of the algebra of differential forms to the case of the two-parameter quantum plane. We find that there exists a non trivial family of linear connections only when the two parameters obeys a specific relation.
