Integrability of Supersymmetric Quantum Matrix Models in the Large-N Limit

Many physical systems like supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories are formulated as quantum matrix models. We discuss how to apply the Beth ansatz to exactly solve some supersymmetric quantum matrix models in the large-N limit. Toy models are constructed out of the one-dimensional Hubbard and t-J models as illustrations.

Pfaffian Solutions for the Manin-Radul-Mathieu SUSY KdV and SUSY sine-Gordon Equations

We reduce the vectorial binary Darboux transformation for the Manin-Radul supersymmetric KdV system in such a way that it preserves the Manin-Radul-Mathieu supersymmetric KdV equation reduction. Expressions in terms of bosonic Pfaffians are provided for transformed solutions and wave functions. We also consider the implications of these results for the supersymmetric sine-Gordon equation.

The Equivalence Principle of Quantum Mechanics: Uniqueness Theorem

Recently we showed that the postulated diffeomorphic equivalence of states implies quantum mechanics. This approach takes the canonical variables to be dependent by the relation p=\partial_q S_0 and exploits a basic GL(2,C)-symmetry which underlies the canonical formalism. In particular, we looked for the special transformations leading to the free system with vanishing energy. Furthermore, we saw that while on the one hand the equivalence principle cannot be consistently implemented in classical mechanics, on the other it naturally led to the quantum analogue of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation, thus implying the Schroedinger equation. In this letter we show that actually the principle uniquely leads to this solution. Furthermore, we find the map reducing any system to the free one with vanishing energy and derive the transformations on S_0 leaving the wave function invariant. We also express the canonical and Schroedinger equations by means of the brackets recently introduced in the framework of N=2 SYM. These brackets are the analogue of the Poisson brackets with the canonical variables taken as dependent.

Equivalence Principle, Planck Length and Quantum Hamilton-Jacobi Equation

The Quantum Stationary HJ Equation (QSHJE) that we derived from the equivalence principle, gives rise to initial conditions which cannot be seen in the Schroedinger equation. Existence of the classical limit leads to a dependence of the integration constant $\ell=\ell_1+i\ell_2$ on the Planck length. Solutions of the QSHJE provide a trajectory representation of quantum mechanics which, unlike Bohm's theory, has a non-trivial action even for bound states and no wave guide is present. The quantum potential turns out to be an intrinsic potential energy of the particle which, similarly to the relativistic rest energy, is never vanishing.

Toroidal solitons in 3+1 dimensional integrable theories

We analyze the integrability properties of models defined on the symmetric space SU(2)/U(1) in 3+1 dimensions, using a recently proposed approach for integrable theories in any dimension. We point out the key ingredients for a theory to possess an infinite number of local conservation laws, and discuss classes of models with such property. We propose a 3+1-dimensional, relativistic invariant field theory possessing a toroidal soliton solution carrying a unit of topological charge given by the Hopf map. Construction of the action is guided by the requirement that the energy of static configuration should be scale invariant. The solution is constructed exactly. The model possesses an infinite number of local conserved currents. The method is also applied to the Skyrme-Faddeev model, and integrable submodels are proposed.

Soliton S matrices for the critical A_{N-1}^(1) chain

We compute by Bethe Ansatz both bulk and boundary hole scattering matrices for the critical A_{N-1}^(1) quantum spin chain. The bulk S matrix coincides with the soliton S matrix for the A_{N-1}^(1) Toda field theory with imaginary coupling. We verify our result for the boundary S matrix using a generalization of the Ghoshal-Zamolodchikov boundary crossing relation.

Yang-Baxter Algebra for the n-Harmonic Oscillator Realisation of sp(2n,R)

Using a rational R-matrix associated with the 4 x 4 defining matrix representation of c_2=sp(4), the Lie algebra of Sp(4), a one-site operator solution of the associated Yang-Baxter algebra acting in the Fock space of two harmonic oscillators is derived. This is used to define N-site integrable systems, which are soluble by a version of the algebraic Bethe ansatz method without nesting. All essential aspects of the work generalise directly from c_2 to c_n.

Integrability of the pairing hamiltonian

We show that a many-body Hamiltonian that corresponds to a system of fermions interacting through a pairing force is an integrable problem, i.e. it has as many constants of the motion as degrees of freedom. At the classical level this implies that the Time-dependent Hartree-Fock- Bogoliubov dynamics is integrable and at the quantum level that there are conserved operators of two-body character which reduce to the number operators when the pairing strength vanishes. We display these operators explicitly and study in detail the three-level example.

Systems with Higher-Order Shape Invariance: Spectral and Algebraic Properties

We study a complex intertwining relation of second order for Schroedinger operators and construct third order symmetry operators for them. A modification of this approach leads to a higher order shape invariance. We analyze with particular attention irreducible second order Darboux transformations which together with the first order act as building blocks. For the third order shape-invariance irreducible Darboux transformations entail only one sequence of equidistant levels while for the reducible case the structure consists of up to three infinite sequences of equidistant levels and, in some cases, singlets or doublets of isolated levels.

On a Schwarzian PDE associated with the KdV Hierarchy

We present a novel integrable non-autonomous partial differential equation of the Schwarzian type, i.e. invariant under Möbius transformations, that is related to the Korteweg-de Vries hierarchy. In fact, this PDE can be considered as the generating equation for the entire hierarchy of Schwarzian KdV equations. We present its Lax pair, establish its connection with the SKdV hierarchy, its Miura relations to similar generating PDEs for the modified and regular KdV hierarchies and its Lagrangian structure. Finally we demonstrate that its similarity reductions lead to the {\it full} Painlevé VI equation, i.e. with four arbitary parameters.

A new method to test discrete Painlevé equations

Necessary discretization rules to preserve the Painlevé property are stated. A new method is added to the discrete Painlevé test, which perturbs the continuous limit and generates infinitely many no-log conditions.

Virasoro Symmetry of Constrained KP Hierarchies

Additional non-isospectral symmetries are formulated for the constrained Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (\cKP) integrable hierarchies. The problem of compatibility of additional symmetries with the underlying constraints is solved explicitly for the Virasoro part of the additional symmetry through appropriate modification of the standard additional-symmetry flows for the general (unconstrained) KP hierarchy. We also discuss the special case of \cKP --truncated KP hierarchies, obtained as Darboux-Bäcklund orbits of initial purely differential Lax operators. The latter give rise to Toda-lattice-like structures relevant for discrete (multi-)matrix models. Our construction establishes the condition for commutativity of the additional-symmetry flows with the discrete Darboux-Bäcklund transformations of \cKP hierarchies leading to a new derivation of the string-equation constraint in matrix models.

New Integrable Extensions of N=2 KdV and Boussinesq Hierarchies

We construct a new variety of $N=2$ supersymmetric integrable systems by junction of pseudo-differential superspace Lax operators for $a=4$, $N=2$ KdV and multi-component $N=2$ NLS hierarchies. As an important particular case, we obtain Lax operator for $N=4$ super KdV system. A similar extension of one of $N=2$ super Boussinesq hierarchies is given. We also present a minimal $N=4$ supersymmetric extension of the second flow of $N=4$ KdV hierarchy and comment on its possible integrability.

A (2+1) dimensional integrable spin model: Geometrical and gauge equivalent counterpart, solitons and localized coherent structures

A non-isospectral (2+1) dimensional integrable spin equation is investigated. It is shown that its geometrical and gauge equivalent counterparts is the (2+1) dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation introduced by Zakharov and studied recently by Strachan. Using a Hirota bilinearised form, line and curved soliton solutions are obtained. Using certain freedom (arbitrariness) in the solutions of the bilinearised equation, exponentially localized dromion-like solutions for the potential is found. Also, breaking soliton solutions (for the spin variables) of the shock wave type and algebraically localized nature are constructed.

On the dynamics of rational solutions for 1-D generalized Volterra system

The Hirota bilinear formalism and soliton solutions for a generalized Volterra system is presented. Also, starting from the soliton solutions, we obtain a class of nonsingular rational solutions using the "long wave" limit procedure of Ablowitz and Satsuma, and appropriate "gauge" transformations. Their properties are also discussed and it is shown that these solutions interact elastically with no phase shift.
