Hydrodynamics of cold holographic matter

We show that at any temperature, the low-energy (with respect to the chemical potential) collective excitations of the transverse components of the energy-momentum tensor and the global U(1) current in the field theory dual to the planar RN-AdS4 black hole are simply those of hydrodynamics. That is, hydrodynamics is applicable even at energy scales much greater than the temperature. It is applicable even at zero temperature. Specifically, we find that there is always a diffusion mode with diffusion constant proportional to the ratio of entropy density to energy density. At low temperatures, the leading order momentum and temperature dependences of the dispersion relation of this mode are controlled by the dimension of an operator in the thermal CFT1 dual to the near-horizon Schwarzschild-AdS2 geometry.

All order $α'$ higher derivative corrections to non-BPS branes of type IIB Super string theory

By dealing with the evaluation of string theory correlators of $ $, the complete and closed form of the amplitude of two fermion fields, one tachyon and one closed string Ramond-Ramond field in type IIB superstring theory is found. Specifically by comparing infinite tachyon poles in field theory amplitude with infinite tachyon poles of the S-matrix of string amplitude (for $p+1=n$ case), all the infinite higher derivative corrections of two tachyons and two fermions (in type IIB) to all orders of $α'$ have been discovered. Using these new couplings, we are able to produce infinite $t'+s'+u$-channel tachyon poles of string theory in field theory. Due to internal degrees of freedom of fermions and tachyon (Chan-Paton factors) we comment that, neither there should be single $s,t-$channel fermion (tachyon pole) nor their infinite poles. Due to internal CP factor we also discover that there is no coupling between two closed string Ramond-Ramond (RR) field and one tachyon in type II super string theory. Taking into account the fact that the kinetic terms of fermions, gauge, scalar fields and tachyons do not obtain any higher derivative corrections, and due to their CP factors, string theory amplitude dictates us there should not be any double poles in the amplitude of one RR, two fermions and one tachyon.

Periodically Driven Holographic Superconductor

As a first step towards our holographic investigation of the far-from-equilibrium physics of periodically driven systems at strong coupling, we explore the real time dynamics of holographic superconductor driven by a monochromatically alternating electric field with various frequencies. As a result, our holographic superconductor is driven to the final oscillating state, where the condensate is suppressed and the oscillation frequency is controlled by twice of the driving frequency. In particular, in the large frequency limit, the three distinct channels towards the final steady state are found, namely under damped to superconducting phase, over damped to superconducting and normal phase, which can be captured essentially by the low lying spectrum of quasi-normal modes in the time averaged approximation, reminiscent of the effective field theory perspective.

Charge Renormalization due to Graviton Loops

The leading term in the gauge coupling beta function comes due to interaction of gauge field with gravitons. It is shown to be a universal quantity for all gauge theories. At one-loop it is found to be zero in four dimensions. This is independent of the gravity action with metric as the field variable, gauge fixing condition and regularization scheme. This term being universally same for all gauge groups is further studied in the case of abelian gauge theories, where due to self-duality this term is shown to be zero to all loops, on-shell. Consequences of this are discussed.

New Actions for Modified Gravity and Supergravity

We extend the f(R) gravity action by including a generic dependence upon the Weyl tensor, and further generalize it to supergravity by using the super-curvature (R) and super-Weyl (W) chiral superfields in N=1 chiral curved superspace. We argue that our (super)gravitational actions are the meaningful extensions of the phenomenological f(R) gravity and its locally supersymmetric generalization towards their UV completion and their embedding into superstring theories. The proposed actions can be used for study of cosmological perturbations and gravitational instabilities due to a nonvanishing Weyl tensor in gravity and supergravity.

Entanglement entropy in all dimensions

It has long been conjectured that the entropy of quantum fields across boundaries scales as the boundary area. This conjecture has not been easy to test in spacetime dimensions greater than four because of divergences in the von Neumann entropy. Here we show that the Renyi entropy provides a convergent alternative, yielding a quantitative measure of entanglement between quantum field theoretic degrees of freedom inside and outside hypersurfaces. For the first time, we show that the entanglement entropy in higher dimensions is proportional to the higher dimensional area. We also show that the Renyi entropy diverges at specific values of the Renyi parameter (q) in each dimension, but this divergence can be tamed by introducing a mass of the quantum field.

Forced Fluid Dynamics from Blackfolds in General Supergravity Backgrounds

We present a general treatment of the leading order dynamics of the collective modes of charged dilatonic $p$-brane solutions of (super)gravity theories in arbitrary backgrounds. To this end we employ the general strategy of the blackfold approach which is based on a long-wavelength derivative expansion around an exact or approximate solution of the (super)gravity equations of motion. The resulting collective mode equations are formulated as forced hydrodynamic equations on dynamically embedded hypersurfaces. We derive them in full generality (including all possible asymptotic fluxes and dilaton profiles) in a far-zone analysis of the (super)gravity equations and in representative examples in a near-zone analysis. An independent treatment based on the study of external couplings in hydrostatic partition functions is also presented. Special emphasis is given to the forced collective mode equations that arise in type IIA/B and eleven-dimensional supergravities, where besides the standard Lorentz force couplings our analysis reveals additional couplings to the background, including terms that arise from Chern-Simons interactions. We also present a general overview of the blackfold approach and some of the key conceptual issues that arise when applied to arbitrary backgrounds.

Penrose type inequalities for asymptotically hyperbolic graphs

In this paper we study asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds given as graphs of asymptotically constant functions over hyperbolic space $\bH^n$. The graphs are considered as subsets of $\bH^{n+1}$ and carry the induced metric. For such manifolds the scalar curvature appears in the divergence of a 1-form involving the integrand for the asymptotically hyperbolic mass. Integrating this divergence we estimate the mass by an integral over an inner boundary. In case the inner boundary satisfies a convexity condition this can in turn be estimated in terms of the area of the inner boundary. The resulting estimates are similar to the conjectured Penrose inequality for asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds. The work presented here is inspired by Lam's article concerning the asymptotically Euclidean case.

The Universal Phase Space of AdS3 Gravity

We describe what can be called the "universal" phase space of AdS3 gravity, in which the moduli spaces of globally hyperbolic AdS spacetimes with compact spatial sections, as well as the moduli spaces of multi-black-hole spacetimes are realized as submanifolds. The universal phase space is parametrized by two copies of the Universal Teichmüller space T(1) and is obtained from the correspondence between maximal surfaces in AdS3 and quasisymmetric homeomorphisms of the unit circle. We also relate our parametrization to the Chern-Simons formulation of 2+1 gravity and, infinitesimally, to the holographic (Fefferman-Graham) description. In particular, we obtain a relation between the generators of quasiconformal deformations in each T(1) sector and the chiral Brown-Henneaux vector fields. We also relate the charges arising in the holographic description (such as the mass and angular momentum of an AdS3 spacetime) to the periods of the quadratic differentials arising via the Bers embedding of T(1)xT(1). Our construction also yields a symplectic map from T*T(1) to T(1)xT(1) generalizing the well-known Mess map in the compact spatial surface setting.

Global existence of smooth solution to relativistic membrane equation with large data

This paper is concerned with the Cauchy problem for the relativistic membrane equation (RME) embedded in $\mathbb R^{1+(1+n)}$ with $n=2,3$. We show that the RME with a class of large (in energy norm) initial data admits a global, smooth solution. The initial data are given by the short pulse type, which is introduced by Christodoulou in his work on the formation of black holes [10]. Due to the quasilinear feature of RME, we construct two multipliers adapted to the geometry of membrane and present an efficient way for proving the global existence of smooth solution to the geometric wave equation with double null structure. We also derive the asymptotic geometry of the future null infinity and find out a nonlinear (expanding) effect at infinity.

Quasi-Rip and Pseudo-Rip Universes Induced by the Fluid Inhomogeneous Equation of State

We investigate specific models for a dark energy universe leading to Quasi-Rip and Pseudo-Rip cosmologies. In the Quasi-Rip model the equation of state parameter w is less than -1 in the first stage, but becomes larger than -1 in the second stage. In the Pseudo-Rip model the Hubble parameter tends to a constant value in the remote future, although w is always less than -1. Conditions for the appearance of the Quasi-Rip and the Pseudo-Rip in terms of the parameters in the equation of state are determined. Analogies with the theory of viscous cosmology are discussed.

Extracting Geometry from Quantum Spacetime: Obstacles down the road

Any acceptable quantum gravity theory must allow us to recover the classical spacetime in the appropriate limit. Moreover, the spacetime geometrical notions should be intrinsically tied to the behavior of the matter that probes them. We consider some difficulties that would be confronted in attempting such an enterprise. The problems we uncover seem to go beyond the technical level to the point of questioning the overall feasibility of the project. The main issue is related to the fact that, in the quantum theory, it is impossible to assign a trajectory to a physical object, and, on the other hand, according to the basic tenets of the geometrization of gravity, it is precisely the trajectories of free localized objects that define the spacetime geometry. The insights gained in this analysis should be relevant to those interested in the quest for a quantum theory of gravity and might help refocus some of its goals.

Thermodynamics and Spectroscopy of charged Dilaton black holes

The Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization rule is useful to study the area spectrum of black holes by employing adiabatic invariants. This method is extended to charged dilaton black holes in 2+1 dimensions. We put the background space-time into the Kruskal-like coordinate to find the period with respect to Euclidian time. Also assuming that the adiabatic invariant obeys Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization rule, detailed study of area and entropy spectrum has been done. It is dependent on the charge and is equally spaced as well. We also investigate the thermodynamics of the charged dilaton black hole.

Area spectrum and thermodynamics of KS black holes in Hořava gravity

We investigate the area spectrum of Kehagias-Sfetsos black hole in Hořava-Lifshitz gravity via modified adiabatic invariant $I=\oint p_i d q_i$ and Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization rule. We find that the area spectrum is equally spaced with a spacing of $ ΔA=4 πl_p ^2$. We have also studied the thermodynamic behavior of KS black hole by deriving different thermodynamic quantities.

Born - Infeld-like modified gravity

A modified theory of gravity with the function $F(R) = (1-\sqrt{1-2λR})/λ$ is suggested and analyzed. At small value of the parameter $λ$ introduced the action is converted into Einstein$-$Hilbert action. The theory is consistent with local tests which gives a bound on the value of the parameter $λ\leq 2\times 10^{-6}$ cm$^2$. I have considered the Jordan frame as well as the Einstein frame in which the potential of the scalar field was obtained. The static Schwarzschild$-$de Sitter solutions of the model are obtained and analyzed. It was demonstrated that the de Sitter space is unstable but a solution with zero Ricci scalar is stable. It is shown that there is no matter instability in the proposed model.

On the basis of Hamilton a formalism the dynamic equations of movement scalar charged particles in a classical scalar field are formulated. Unlike earlier published works of the author the model with zero own weight of particles is considered. Linear integrals of movement are found and ambiguity of communication between kinematic speed and an impulse of particles is specified.

The closed system of the equations describing cosmological models to which the matter is presented by plasma with interpartial scalar interaction is received.

On what does not expand in an expanding universe: a very simple model

As the separation between galaxies increases owing to the expansion of the universe, galaxies themselves and smaller bound structures do not grow. An accurate description of the dynamics of cosmic structures requires the full apparatus of general relativity. In order to gain a fairly satisfactory understanding of what does not expand in an expanding universe, however, it suffices to take the harmonic oscillator as prototype of a bound system. More precisely, we show that a study of the quantum dynamics of a nonrelativistic harmonic oscillator in an expanding universe makes it clear that most bound systems do not take part in the overall cosmic expansion. The analysis is elementary and indicates that whether a bound structure partakes in the expansion partially or not at all is essentially determined by a characteristic time scale associated with it.
