Givental formula in terms of Virasoro operators

We present a conjecture that the universal enveloping algebra of differential operators $\frac{\p}{\p t_k}$ over $\mathbb{C}$ coincides in the origin with the universal enveloping algebra of the (Borel subalgebra of) Virasoro generators from the Kontsevich model. Thus, we can decompose any (pseudo)differential operator to a combination of the Virasoro operators. Using this decomposition we present the r.h.s. of the Givental formula math.AG/0008067 as a constant part of the differential operator we introduce. In the case of $\mathbb{CP}^1$ studied in hep-th/0103254, the l.h.s. of the Givental formula is a unit, which imposes certain constraints on this differential operator. We explicitly check that these constraints are correct up to $O(q^4)$. We also propose a conjecture of factorization modulo Hirota equation of the differential operator introduced and check this conjecture with the same accuracy.

Semistability of Principal Bundles on a Kähler Manifold with a Non-Connected Structure Group

We investigate principal $G$-bundles on a compact Kähler manifold, where $G$ is a complex algebraic group such that the connected component of it containing the identity element is reductive. Defining (semi)stability of such bundles, it is shown that a principal $G$-bundle $E_G$ admits an Einstein-Hermitian connection if and only if $E_G$ is polystable. We give an equivalent formulation of the (semi)stability condition. A question is to compare this definition with that of math.AG/0506511.

Admissible subcategories in derived categories of moduli of vector bundles on curves

We show that the Poincaré bundle gives a fully faithful embedding from the derived category of a curve of sufficiently high genus into the derived category of its moduli space of bundles of rank $r$ with fixed determinant of degree 1. Moreover we show that a twist of the embedding, together with 2 exceptional line bundles, gives the start of a semi-orthogonal decomposition. This generalises results of Narasimhan and Fonarev-Kuznetsov, who embedded the derived category of a single copy of the curve, for rank 2.

Surfaces containing two circles through each point and Pythagorean 6-tuples

We study analytic surfaces in 3-dimensional Euclidean space containing two circular arcs through each point. The problem of finding such surfaces traces back to the works of Darboux from XIXth century. We reduce finding all such surfaces to the algebraic problem of finding all Pythagorean 6-tuples of polynomials. The reduction is based on the Schicho parametrization of surfaces containing two conics through each point and a new approach using quaternionic rational parametrization.

Geometric Invariant Theory and Generalized Eigenvalue Problem

Let $H$ be a connected reductive subgroup of a complex connected reductive group $G$. Fix maximal tori and Borel subgroups of $H$ and $G$. Consider the pairs $(V,V')$ of irreducible representations of $H$ and $G$ such that $V$ is a submodule of $V'$. We are interested in the cone $LR(G,H)$ generated by the pairs of dominant weights of such a pair of representations. Our main result gives a minimal set of inequalities describing $LR(G,H)$ as a part of the dominant chamber. In way, we obtain results about the faces of the Dolgachev-Hu's $G$-ample cone and variations of this cone.

Ideals of bounded rank symmetric tensors are generated in bounded degree

Over a field of characteristic zero, we prove that for each r, there exists a constant C(r) so that the prime ideal of the rth secant variety of any Veronese embedding of any projective space is generated by polynomials of degree at most C(r). The main idea is to consider the coordinate ring of all of the ambient spaces of the Veronese embeddings at once by endowing it with the structure of a Hopf ring, and to show that its ideals are finitely generated. We also prove a similar statement for partial flag varieties and, in fact, arbitrary projective schemes, and we also get multi-graded versions of these results.

Mordell-Lang plus Bogomolov

We formulate a conjecture for semiabelian varieties A over number fields that includes both the Mordell-Lang conjecture (now proven) and the Bogomolov conjecture. We prove the "Mordellic" (finitely generated) part of the conjecture when A is isogenous to the product of an abelian variety and a torus. The proof makes use of the Mordell-Lang conjecture, the Bogomolov conjecture, and an equidistribution theorem.

Divisibility properties of motivic cohomology

We extend results of Colliot-Thélène and Raskind on the $\mathcal{K}_2$-cohomology of smooth projective varieties over a separably closed field $k$ to the étale motivic cohomology of smooth, not necessarily projective, varieties over $k$. Some consequences are drawn, such as the degeneration of the Bloch-Lichtenbaum spectral sequence for any field containing $k$.

Cone spherical metrics and stable vector bundles

Cone spherical metrics are conformal metrics with constant curvature one and finitely many conical singularities on compact Riemann surfaces. A cone spherical metric is called irreducible if each developing map of the metric does not have monodromy lying in ${\rm U(1)}$. We establish on compact Riemann surfaces of positive genera a correspondence between irreducible cone spherical metrics with cone angles being integral multiples of $2π$ and line subbundles of rank two stable vector bundles. Then we are motivated by it to prove a theorem of Lange-type that there always exists a stable extension of $L^*$ by $L$, for $L$ being a line bundle of negative degree on each compact Riemann surface of genus greater than one. At last, as an application of these two results, we obtain a new class of irreducible spherical metrics with cone angles being integral multiples of $2π$ on each compact Riemann surface of genus greater than one

On embedded products of Grassmannians

Let $Γ'$ and $Γ$ be two Grassmannians. The standard embedding $ϕ:Γ'\timesΓ\to \bar{P}$ is obtained by combining the Plücker and Segre embeddings. Given a further embedding $η: Γ'\timesΓ\to P'$, we find a sufficient condition for the existence of $α\in Aut(Γ)$ and of a collineation $ψ: \bar{P} \to P'$ such that $η=({\rm id}_{Γ'}\timesα)ϕψ$.

Double theta polynomials and equivariant Giambelli formulas

We use Young's raising operators to introduce and study double theta polynomials, which specialize to both the theta polynomials of Buch, Kresch, and Tamvakis, and to double (or factorial) Schur S-polynomials and Q-polynomials. These double theta polynomials give Giambelli formulas which represent the equivariant Schubert classes in the torus-equivariant cohomology ring of symplectic Grassmannians, and we employ them to obtain a new presentation of this ring in terms of intrinsic generators and relations.

Invariants of upper motives

Let H be a homology theory for algebraic varieties over a field k. To a complete k-variety X, one naturally attaches an ideal of the coefficient ring H(k). We show that, when X is regular, this ideal depends only on the upper Chow motive of X. This generalises the classical results asserting that this ideal is a birational invariant of smooth varieties for particular choices of H, such as the Chow group. When H is the Grothendieck group of coherent sheaves, we obtain a lower bound on the canonical dimension of varieties. When H is the algebraic cobordism, we give a new proof of a theorem of Levine and Morel. Finally we discuss some splitting properties of geometrically unirational field extensions of small transcendence degree.

On the existence of superspecial nonhyperelliptic curves of genus $4$

A curve over a perfect field $K$ of characteristic $p > 0$ is said to be superspecial if its Jacobian is isomorphic to a product of supersingular elliptic curves over the algebraic closure $\overline{K}$. In recent years, isomorphism classes of superspecial nonhyperelliptic curves of genus $4$ over finite fields in small characteristic have been enumerated. In particular, the non-existence of superspecial curves of genus $4$ in characteristic $p = 7$ was proved. In this note, we give an elementary proof of the existence of superspecial nonhyperelliptic curves of genus $4$ for infinitely many primes $p$. Specifically, we prove that the variety $C_p : x^3+y^3+w^3= 2 y w + z^2 = 0$ in the projective $3$-space with $p > 2$ is a superspecial curve of genus $4$ if and only if $p \equiv 2 \pmod{3}$. Our computational results show that $C_p$ with $p \equiv 2 \pmod 3$ are maximal curves over $\mathbb{F}_{p^2}$ for all $3 \leq p \leq 269$.

Lagrangian structures on mapping stacks and semi-classical TFTs

We extend a recent result of Pantev-Toen-Vaquie-Vezzosi, who constructed shifted symplectic structures on derived mapping stacks having a Calabi-Yau source and a shifted symplectic target. Their construction gives a clear conceptual framework for the so-called AKSZ formalism. We extend the PTVV construction to derived mapping stacks with boundary conditions, which is required in most applications to quantum field theories (see e.g. the work of Cattaneo-Felder on the Poisson sigma model, and the recent work of Cattaneo-Mnev-Reshetikhin). We provide many examples of Lagrangian and symplectic structures that can be recovered in this way. We finally give an application to topological field theories (TFTs). We expect that our approach will help to rigorously constuct a 2 dimensional TFT introduced by Moore and Tachikawa. A subsequent paper will be devoted to the construction of fully extended TFTs (in the sense of Baez-Dolan and Lurie) from mapping stacks.

Effective homology and periods of complex projective hypersurfaces

We introduce a new algorithm for computing the periods of a smooth complex projective hypersurface. The algorithm intertwine with a new method for computing an explicit basis of the singular homology of the hypersurface. It is based on Picard-Lefschetz theory and relies on the computation of the monodromy action induced by a one-parameter family of hyperplane sections on the homology of a given section. We provide a SageMath implementation. For example, on a laptop, it makes it possible to compute the periods of a smooth complex quartic surface with hundreds of digits of precision in typically an hour.
