Tau-Functions generating the Conservation Laws for Generalized Integrable Hierarchies of KdV and Affine-Toda type

For a class of generalized integrable hierarchies associated with affine (twisted or untwisted) Kac-Moody algebras, an explicit representation of their local conserved densities by means of a single scalar tau-function is deduced. This tau-function acts as a partition function for the conserved densities, which fits its potential interpretation as the effective action of some quantum system. The class consists of multi-component generalizations of the Drinfel'd-Sokolov and the two-dimensional affine Toda lattice hierarchies. The relationship between the former and the approach of Feigin, Frenkel and Enriquez to soliton equations of KdV and mKdV type is also discussed. These results considerably simplify the calculation of the conserved charges carried by the soliton solutions to the equations of the hierarchy, which is important to establish their interpretation as particles. By way of illustration, we calculate the charges carried by a set of constrained KP solitons recently constructed.

Generalized Calogero-Sutherland systems from many-matrix models

We construct generalizations of the Calogero-Sutherland-Moser system by appropriately reducing a model involving many unitary matrices. The resulting systems consist of particles on the circle with internal degrees of freedom, coupled through modifications of the inverse-square potential. The coupling involves SU(M) non-invariant (anti)ferromagnetic interactions of the internal degrees of freedom. The systems are shown to be integrable and the spectrum and wavefunctions of the quantum version are derived.

Eigenvalue Dynamics and the Matrix Chain

We introduce a general method for transforming the equations of motion following from a Das-Jevicki-Sakita Hamiltonian, with boundary conditions, into a boundary value problem in one-dimensional quantum mechanics. For the particular case of a one-dimensional chain of interacting NxN Hermitean matrices, the corresponding large N boundary value problem is mapped into a linear Fredholm equation with Hilbert-Schmidt type kernel. The equivalence of this kernel, in special cases, to a second order differential operator allows us recover all previously known explicit solutions for the matrix eigenvalues. In the general case, the distribution of eigenvalues is formally derived through a series of saddle-point approximations. The critical behaviour of the system, including a previously observed Kosterlitz-Thouless transition, is interpreted in terms of the stationary points. In particular we show that a previously conjectured infinite series of sub-leading critical points are due to expansion about unstable stationary points and consequently not realized.

Spontaneous magnetization of the XXZ Heisenberg spin-1/2 chain

Determinant representations of form factors are used to represent the spontaneous magnetization of the Heisenberg XXZ chain (Delta >1) on the finite lattice as the ratio of two determinants. In the thermodynamic limit (the lattice of infinite length), the Baxter formula is reproduced in the framework of Algebraic Bethe Ansatz. It is shown that the finite size corrections to the Baxter formula are exponentially small.

Form factors of the XXZ Heisenberg spin-1/2 finite chain

Form factors for local spin operators of the XXZ Heisenberg spin-1/2 finite chain are computed. Representation theory of Drinfel'd twists for the sl2 quantum affine algebra in finite dimensional modules is used to calculate scalar products of Bethe states (leading to Gaudin formula) and to solve the quantum inverse problem for local spin operators in the finite XXZ chain. Hence, we obtain the representation of the n-spin correlation functions in terms of expectation values(in ferromagnetic reference state) of the operator entries of the quantum monodromy matrix satisfying Yang-Baxter algebra. This leads to the direct calculation of the form factors of the XXZ Heisenberg spin-1/2 finite chain as determinants of usual functions of the parameters of the model. A two-point correlation function for adjacent sites is also derived using similar techniques.

Particle Reflection Amplitudes in a_n^(1) Toda Field Theories

We determine the exact quantum particle reflection amplitudes for all known vacua of a_n^(1) affine Toda theories on the half-line with integrable boundary conditions. (Real non-singular vacuum solutions are known for about half of all the classically integrable boundary conditions.) To be able to do this we use the fact that the particles can be identified with the analytically continued breather solutions, and that the real vacuum solutions are obtained by analytically continuing stationary soliton solutions. We thus obtain the particle reflection amplitudes from the corresponding breather reflection amplitudes. These in turn we calculate by bootstrapping from soliton reflection matrices which we obtained as solutions of the boundary Yang-Baxter equation (reflection equation). We study the pole structure of the particle reflection amplitudes and uncover an unexpectedly rich spectrum of excited boundary states, created by particles binding to the boundary. For a_2^(1) and a_4^(1) Toda theories we calculate the reflection amplitudes for particle reflection off all these excited boundary states. We are able to explain all physical strip poles in these reflection factors either in terms of boundary bound states or a generalisation of the Coleman-Thun mechanism.

N=2 local and N=4 nonlocal reductions of supersymmetric KP hierarchy in N=2 superspace

A N=4 supersymmetric matrix KP hierarchy is proposed and a wide class of its reductions which are characterized by a finite number of fields are described. This class includes the one-dimensional reduction of the two-dimensional N=(2|2) superconformal Toda lattice hierarchy possessing the N=4 supersymmetry -- the N=4 Toda chain hierarchy -- which may be relevant in the construction of supersymmetric matrix models. The Lax pair representations of the bosonic and fermionic flows, corresponding local and nonlocal Hamiltonians, finite and infinite discrete symmetries, the first two Hamiltonian structures and the recursion operator connecting all evolution equations and the Hamiltonian structures of the N=4 Toda chain hierarchy are constructed in explicit form. Its secondary reduction to the N=2 supersymmetric alpha=-2 KdV hierarchy is discussed.

Inverse scattering method and vector higher order nonlinear Schrodinger equation

A generalised inverse scattering method has been developed for arbitrary n dimensional Lax equations. Subsequently, the method has been used to obtain N soliton solutions of a vector higher order nonlinear Schrodinger equation, proposed by us. It has been shown that under suitable reduction, vector higher order nonlinear Schrodinger equation reduces to higher order nonlinear Schrodinger equation. The infinite number of conserved quantities have been obtained by solving a set of coupled Riccati equation. A gauge equivalence is shown between the vector higher order nonlinear Schrodinger equation and the generalized Landau Lifshitz equation and the Lax pair for the latter equation has also been constructed in terms of the spin field, establishing direct integrability of the spin system.

Twisted Quantum Affine Superalgebra $U_q[gl(m|n)^{(2)}]$ and New $U_q[osp(m|n)]$ Invariant R-matrices

The minimal irreducible representations of $U_q[gl(m|n)]$, i.e. those irreducible representations that are also irreducible under $U_q[osp(m|n)]$ are investigated and shown to be affinizable to give irreducible representations of the twisted quantum affine superalgebra $U_q[gl(m|n)^{(2)}]$. The $U_q[osp(m|n)]$ invariant R-matrices corresponding to the tensor product of any two minimal representations are constructed, thus extending our twisted tensor product graph method to the supersymmetric case. These give new solutions to the spectral-dependent graded Yang-Baxter equation arising from $U_q[gl(m|n)^{(2)}]$, which exhibit novel features not previously seen in the untwisted or non-super cases.

Finding and solving Calogero-Moser type systems using Yang-Mills gauge theories

Yang-Mills gauge theory models on a cylinder coupled to external matter charges provide powerful means to find and solve certain non-linear integrable systems. We show that, depending on the choice of gauge group and matter charges, such a Yang-Mills model is equivalent to trigonometric Calogero-Moser systems and certain known spin generalizations thereof. Choosing a more general ansatz for the matter charges allows us to obtain and solve novel integrable systems. The key property we use to prove integrability and to solve these systems is gauge invariance of the corresponding Yang-Mills model.

Integrable supersymmetric correlated electron chain with open boundaries

We construct an extended Hubbard model with open boundaries from a $R$-matrix based on the $U_q[Osp(2|2)]$ superalgebra. We study the reflection equation and find two classes of diagonal solutions. The corresponding one-dimensional open Hamiltonians are diagonalized by means of the Bethe ansatz approach.

Supersymmetric Polychronakos Spin Chain: Motif, Distribution Function, and Character

Degeneracy patterns and hyper-multiplet structure in the spectrum of the su($m|n$) supersymmetric Polychronakos spin chain are studied by use of the "motif''. Using the recursion relation of the supersymmetric Rogers-Szeg{ö} polynomials which are closely related to the partition function of the $N$ spin chain, we give the representation for motif in terms of the supersymmetric skew Young diagrams. We also study the distribution function for quasi-particles. The character formulae for $N\to \infty$ are briefly discussed.

Correlation functions of the XXZ Heisenberg spin-1/2 chain in a magnetic field

Using the algebraic Bethe ansatz method, and the solution of the quantum inverse scattering problem for local spins, we obtain multiple integral representations of the $n$-point correlation functions of the XXZ Heisenberg spin-$1 \over 2$ chain in a constant magnetic field. For zero magnetic field, this result agrees, in both the massless and massive (anti-ferromagnetic) regimes, with the one obtained from the q-deformed KZ equations (massless regime) and the representation theory of the quantum affine algebra ${\cal U}_q (\hat{sl}_2)$ together with the corner transfer matrix approach (massive regime).

Supersymmetric KP hierarchy in N=1 superspace and its N=2 reductions

A wide class of N=2 reductions of the supersymmetric KP hierarchy in N=1 superspace is described. This class includes a new N=2 supersymmetric generalization of the Toda chain hierarchy. The Lax pair representations of the bosonic and fermionic flows, local and nonlocal Hamiltonians, finite and infinite discrete symmetries, first two Hamiltonian structures and the recursion operator of this hierarchy are constructed. Its secondary reduction to new N=2 supersymmetric modified KdV hierarchy is discussed.

Evolution equations for quark-gluon distributions in multi-color QCD and open spin chains

We study the scale dependence of the twist-3 quark-gluon parton distributions using the observation that in the multi-color limit the corresponding QCD evolution equations possess an additional integral of motion and turn out to be effectively equivalent to the Schrodinger equation for integrable open Heisenberg spin chain model. We identify the integral of motion of the spin chain as a new quantum number that separates different components of the twist-3 parton distributions. Each component evolves independently and its scale dependence is governed by anomalous dimension given by the energy of the spin magnet. To find the spectrum of the QCD induced open Heisenberg spin magnet we develop the Bethe Ansatz technique based on the Baxter equation. The solutions to the Baxter equation are constructed using different asymptotic methods and their properties are studied in detail. We demonstrate that the obtained solutions provide a good qualitative description of the spectrum of the anomalous dimensions and reveal a number of interesting properties. We show that the few lowest anomalous dimensions are separated from the rest of the spectrum by a finite mass gap and estimate its value.

Differential equations and integrable models: the SU(3) case

We exhibit a relationship between the massless $a_2^{(2)}$ integrable quantum field theory and a certain third-order ordinary differential equation, thereby extending a recent result connecting the massless sine-Gordon model to the Schrödinger equation. This forms part of a more general correspondence involving $A_2$-related Bethe ansatz systems and third-order differential equations. A non-linear integral equation for the generalised spectral problem is derived, and some numerical checks are performed. Duality properties are discussed, and a simple variant of the nonlinear equation is suggested as a candidate to describe the finite volume ground state energies of minimal conformal field theories perturbed by the operators $ϕ_{12}$, $ϕ_{21}$ and $ϕ_{15}$. This is checked against previous results obtained using the thermodynamic Bethe ansatz.

Graded Lie algebras, representation theory, integrable mappings and systems: nonabelian case

The exactly integrable systems connected with semisimple series $A$ for arbitrary grading are presented in explicit form. Their general solutions are expressed in terms of the matrix elements of various fundamental representations of $A_n$ groups. The simplest example of such systems is the generalized Toda chain with the matrices of arbitrary dimensions in each point of the lattice.

Discrete Dubrovin Equations and Separation of Variables for Discrete Systems

A universal system of difference equations associated with a hyperelliptic curve is derived constituting the discrete analogue of the Dubrovin equations arising in the theory of finite-gap integration. The parametrisation of the solutions in terms of Abelian functions of Kleinian type (i.e. the higher-genus analogues of the Weierstrass elliptic functions) is discussed as well as the connections with the method of separation of variables.
