Getting path integrals physically and technically right

Feynman's Lagrangian path integral was an outgrowth of Dirac's vague surmise that Lagrangians have a role in quantum mechanics. Lagrangians implicitly incorporate Hamilton's first equation of motion, so their use contravenes the uncertainty principle, but they are relevant to semiclassical approximations and relatedly to the ubiquitous case that the Hamiltonian is quadratic in the canonical momenta, which accounts for the Lagrangian path integral's "success". Feynman also invented the Hamiltonian phase-space path integral, which is fully compatible with the uncertainty principle. We recast this as an ordinary functional integral by changing direct integration over subpaths constrained to all have the same two endpoints into an equivalent integration over those subpaths' unconstrained second derivatives. Function expansion with generalized Legendre polynomials of time then enables the functional integral to be unambiguously evaluated through first order in the elapsed time, yielding the Schroedinger equation with a unique quantization of the classical Hamiltonian. Widespread disbelief in that uniqueness stemmed from the mistaken notion that no subpath can have its two endpoints arbitrarily far separated when its nonzero elapsed time is made arbitrarily short. We also obtain the quantum amplitude for any specified configuration or momentum path, which turns out to be an ordinary functional integral over, respectively, all momentum or all configuration paths. The first of these results is directly compared with Feynman's mistaken Lagrangian-action hypothesis for such a configuration path amplitude, with special heed to the case that the Hamiltonian is quadratic in the canonical momenta.

General relativity extended to non-Riemannian space-time geometry

The gravitation equations of the general relativity, written for Riemannian space-time geometry, are extended to the case of arbitrary (non-Riemannian) space-time geometry. The obtained equations are written in terms of the world function in the coordinateless form. These equations determine directly the world function, (but not only the metric tensor). As a result the space-time geometry appears to be non-Rieamannian. Invariant form of the obtained equations admits one to exclude influence of the coordinate system on solutions of dynamic equations. Anybody, who trusts in the general relativity, is to accept the extended general relativity, because the extended theory does not use any new hypotheses. It corrects only inconsequences and restrictions of the conventional conception of general relativity. The extended general relativity predicts an induced antigravitation, which eliminates existence of black holes.

Physical Degrees of Freedom in Higgs Models

Despite the clear-cut prediction and subsequent experimental detection of the weak interaction bosons, the Higgs sector of the standard model of elementary particle physics has long remained one of its most obscure features. Here, it is demonstrated through a very basic argument that standard accounts of the Higgs mechanism suffer from a serious conceptual consistency problem, in that they incorrectly identify physical degrees of freedom. The point at issue, is that the reasoning which leads to a removal of the unphysical excitation modes is valid in both phases of the theory - i.e. both after and before the phase transition occurs. Consistently removing unphysical degrees of freedom implies a discrepancy in the number of physical degrees of freedom. In particular, the longitudinally polarized, massive gauge boson degrees of freedom do not have physical counterparts before the phase transition and are thus effectively "created ex nihilio" at the transition, within the context of ordinary Higgs models. Possible scenarios for removing the discrepancy are briefly considered. The results obtained here strongly indicate that although standard, perturbative formulations of the Higgs mechanism provide a convenient parametrization of electroweak physics over a certain range of scales, they cannot provide a sensible explanation of all relevant physical degrees of freedom involved.

Quantum features of consciousness, computers and brain

Many people believe that mysterious phenomenon of consciousness may be connected with quantum features of our world. The present author proposed so-called Extended Everett's Concept (EEC) that allowed to explain consciousness and super-consciousness (intuitive knowledge). Brain, according to EEC, is an interface between consciousness and super-consciousness on the one part and body on the other part. Relations between all these components of the human cognitive system are analyzed in the framework of EEC. It is concluded that technical devices improving usage of super-consciousness (intuition) may exist.

Identical Particles in Quantum Mechanics

If, in a system of identical particles, the one particle state is defined by the partial trace to one of the component spaces of the total Hilbert space, then all one particle states are identical. The particles are indistinguishable. This is often thought to be a typical quantum mechanical phenomenon. I will show however that an analogous procedure to define particle states exists in classical mechanics, which results in classical indistinguishable identical particles. From this analogy it follows that the indistinguishability of identical particles depends on how we define particle states. It is not an inevitable result of the symmetry postulate. Indeed, if particles are defined by partial traces, consistent use of the symmetry postulate leads to the conclusion that all identical particles in the universe are indistinguishable, so that particles can never be pointed at, not even in the classical limit. This does not correspond to the way the term particle is actually used in practice. I will argue that a particle should be defined in such a way that in the classical limit the quantum particle state becomes the state of a classical particle. This will lead us to a definition of particles which is in line with the way the term particle is actually used by physicists.

Differences at low l in Planck's first light sky map of the cosmic microwave background from WMAP's and COBE's

The recent release of the first light sky map of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) from the Planck satellite provides an initial opportunity for comparison with the WMAP and COBE sky maps and their reconstruction algorithms. The precision of the match between Planck's and WMAP's anisotropies below several degrees in size, which corresponds to spherical harmonics with high l, provides confidence that the differences between the anisotropies at low l are substantial. If the Planck first light sky map is taken as the gold standard, the results seem to suggest the low l components of the WMAP map and a considerable part of the COBE sky map have a similar reconstruction artefact. As the Planck first light sky map covers only about 10% of the sky, any conclusions drawn from this comparison are speculative but deserving of further investigation.

Irregularly Shaped Satellites-Phobos & Deimos- moons of Mars, and their evolutionary history

Phobos, a moon of Mars, is below the Clarke synchronous orbit and due to tidal interaction is losing altitude. With this altitude loss it is doomed to the fate of total destruction by direct collision with Mars. On the other hand Deimos, the second moon of Mars is in extra-synchronous orbit and almost stay put in the present orbit. The reported altitude loss of Phobos is two meter per century by wikipedia and sixty ft per century according to ozgate url . The reported time in which the destruction will take place is fiftyMy and fortyMy respectively. The authors had proposed a planetary-satellite dynamics based on detailed study of Earth-Moon. Based on this planetary satellite dynamics, two meter/century approach velocity leads to the age of Phobos to be twenty three Gyrs which is physically untenable since our Solar System age is four and a half Gyrs. Hence the present altitude loss is assumed to be twenty meter per century. This leads to the age of Phobos to be two decimal three Gyrs and age of Deimos to be two decimal two six Gyrs which is an acceptable result and from this analysis it is predicted that the travel time from the present orbital radius of nine thousand three hundred and eighty km to the Martian surface at three thousand, three hundred and ninety seven km is ten decimal and four Myrs. Hence doomsday of Phobos is at ten decimal and fourMyrs from now. Mars Express studies have confirmed that Phobos is indeed trapped in a death spiral.

Quantum Computing in Non Euclidean Geometry

The recent debate on hyper-computation has raised new questions both on the computational abilities of quantum systems and the Church-Turing Thesis role in Physics. We propose here the idea of geometry of effective physical process as the essentially physical notion of computation. In Quantum mechanics we cannot use the traditional Euclidean geometry but we introduce more sophisticate non Euclidean geometry which include a new kind of information diffuse in the entire universe and that we can represent as Fisher information or active information. We remark that from the Fisher information we can obtain the Bohm and Hiley quantum potential and the classical Schrodinger equation. We can see the quantum phenomena do not affect a limited region of the space but is reflected in a change of the geometry of all the universe. In conclusion any local physical change or physical process is reflected in all the universe by the change of its geometry, This is the deepest meaning of the entanglement in Quantum mechanics and quantum computing. We stress the connection between metric and information as measure of change. Because computation is not restricted to calculus but is the environment changing via physical processes, super-Turing potentialities derive from an incomputable information source embedded into the geometry of the universe in accordance with Bell's constraints. In the general relativity we define the geometry of the space time. In our approach quantum phenomena define the geometry of the parameters of the probability distribution that include also the space time parameters. To study this new approach to the computation we use the new theory of Morphogenic systems.

Dynamical 3-Space Predicts Hotter Early Universe: Resolves CMB-BBN Li7 and He4 Abundance Anomalies

The observed abundances of Li7 and He4 are significantly inconsistent with the predictions from Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) when using the LCDM cosmological model together with the value for Omega_Bh^2 = 0.0224 +/- 0.0009 from WMAP CMB fluctuations, with the value from BBN required to fit observed abundances being 0.009<Omega_Bh^2<0.013. The dynamical 3-space theory is shown to predict a 20% hotter universe in the radiation-dominated epoch, which then results in a remarkable parameter-free agreement between the BBN and the WMAP value for Omega_Bh^2. The dynamical 3-space also gives a parameter-free fit to the supernova redshift data, and predicts that the LCDM model would require Omega_L=0.73 and Omega_M=0.27 to fit the 3-space dynamics Hubble expansion, and independently of the supernova data. These results amount to the discovery of new physics for the early universe that is matched by numerous other successful observational and experimental tests.

Black Hole (Thermodynamics) -- a Simplified Theory for Quantum Gravity Non-Specialists

In this work we suggest a simplified "quasi-classical" formalism of the Schwarzschild black hole thermodynamics. We define such small quantum system at Schwarzschild black hole horizon surface whose reduced Compton wavelength equals one circumference of a great circle on the black hole horizon surface. (It is in some way similar to the Bohr orbital momentum quantization postulate for the ground state interpreted via de Broglie relation.) It admits very simple functional connections between all black hole basic thermodynamic characteristics (Unruh temperature, Hawking temperature, Bekenstein-Hawking entropy, Bekenstein entropy horizon surface quantization, evaporation time) and small quantum system mass. All this can be very interesting for the quantum gravity specialists as well as non-specialists.

The Modified Dirac Equation

We consider the behavior of the particles at ultra relativistic energies, for both the Klein-Gordon and Dirac equations. We observe that the usual description is valid for energies such that we are outside the particle's Compton wavelength. For higher energies however, both the Klein-Gordon and Dirac equations get modified and this leads to some new effects for the particles, including the appearance of anti particles with a slightly different energy.

Quantum gravity and mass of gauge field: a four-dimensional unified quantum theory

We present in detail a four-dimensional unified quantum theory. In this theory, we identify three class of parameters, coordinate-momentum, spin and gauge, as all and as the only fundamental parameters to describe quantum fields. The coordinate-momentum is formulated by the general relativity in four-dimensional space-time. This theory satisfies the general covariance condition and the general covariance derivative operator is given. In an unified and combined description, the matter fields, gravity field and gauge fields satisfy Dirac equation, Einstein equation and Yang-Mills equation in operator form. In the framework of our theory, we mainly realize the following aims: (1) The gravity field is described by a quantum theory, the graviton is massless, it is spin-2; (2) The mass problem of gauge theory is solved. Mass arises naturally from the gauge space and thus Higgs mechanism is not necessary; (3) Color confinement of quarks is explained; (4) Parity violation for weak interactions is obtained; (5) Gravity will cause CPT violation; (6) A dark energy solution of quantum theory is presented. It corresponds to Einstein's cosmological constant. We propose that the candidate for dark energy should be gluon which is one of the elementary particles.

Third potential evidence for the new area spectrum based on the Einstein-Kaufman pseudo tensor, a conjecture

This paper has been withdrawn by the authors. In our earlier paper "Corrections to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy and the Hawking radiation spectrum", arXiv:0910.2755, we provided two concrete numerical evidences for the new area spectrum based on the Einstein-Kaufman pseudo tensor as opposed to the Ashtekar variables: namely, the reproduction of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy without fixing Immirzi parameter and the reproduction of the Hawking radiation spectrum. In this article, we provide another potential, albeit not concrete, numerical evidence for this new area spectrum; there was a constant in our earlier article, which was inversely proportional to the density of state, and which we could not fix a priori. Nevertheless, in our earlier article, we obtained this constant to be around 172$\sim$173 by fitting it to the Planck radiation spectrum. In this article, we propose a mathematical formula that reproduces this value. According to this formula, this constant is around 172.8. Nevertheless, we failed to concretely derive this mathematical formula. Therefore, it is a conjecture.
