Subalgebras with Converging Star Products in Deformation Quantization: An Algebraic Construction for $\complex \mbox{\LARGE P}^n$

Based on a closed formula for a star product of Wick type on $\CP^n$, which has been discovered in an earlier article of the authors, we explicitly construct a subalgebra of the formal star-algebra (with coefficients contained in the uniformly dense subspace of representative functions with respect to the canonical action of the unitary group) that consists of {\em converging} power series in the formal parameter, thereby giving an elementary algebraic proof of a convergence result already obtained by Cahen, Gutt, and Rawnsley. In this subalgebra the formal parameter can be substituted by a real number $α$: the resulting associative algebras are infinite-dimensional except for the case $α=1/K$, $K$ a positive integer, where they turn out to be isomorphic to the finite-dimensional algebra of linear operators in the $K$th energy eigenspace of an isotropic harmonic oscillator with $n+1$ degrees of freedom. Other examples like the $2n$-torus and the Poincaré disk are discussed.

Representations of $U_h(su(N))$ derived from quantum flag manifolds

A relationship between quantum flag and Grassmann manifolds is revealed. This enables a formal diagonalization of quantum positive matrices. The requirement that this diagonalization defines a homomorphism leads to a left \Uh -- module structure on the algebra generated by quantum antiholomorphic coordinate functions living on the flag manifold. The module is defined by prescribing the action on the unit and then extending it to all polynomials using a quantum version of Leibniz rule. Leibniz rule is shown to be induced by the dressing transformation. For discrete values of parameters occuring in the diagonalization one can extract finite-dimensional irreducible representations of \Uh as cyclic submodules.

On Quantum Field Theory with Nonzero Minimal Uncertainties in Positions and Momenta

We continue studies on quantum field theories on noncommutative geometric spaces, focusing on classes of noncommutative geometries which imply ultraviolet and infrared modifications in the form of nonzero minimal uncertainties in positions and momenta. The case of the ultraviolet modified uncertainty relation which has appeared from string theory and quantum gravity is covered. The example of euclidean $ϕ^4$-theory is studied in detail and in this example we can now show ultraviolet and infrared regularisation of all graphs.

Symmetrizable Quantum Affine Superalgebras And Their Representations

Aspects of the algebraic structure and representation theory of the quantum affine superalgebras with symmetrizable Cartan matrices are studied. The irreducible integrable highest weight representations are classified, and shown to be deformations of their classical counterparts. It is also shown that Jimbo type quantum affine superalgebras can be obtained by deforming universal enveloping algebras of ordinary (i.e., non-graded) affine algebras supplemented by certain parity operators.

On the algebraic structure of differential calculus on quantum groups

Intrinsic Hopf algebra structure of the Woronowicz differential complex is shown to generate quite naturally a bicovariant algebra of four basic objects within a differential calculus on quantum groups -- coordinate functions, differential 1-forms, Lie derivatives, and inner derivations -- as the cross-product algebra of two mutually dual graded Hopf algebras. This construction, properly taking into account Hopf-algebraic properties of Woronowicz's bicovariant calculus, provides a direct proof of the Cartan identity and of many other useful relations. A detailed comparison with other approaches is also given.

A Natural Basis of States for the Noncommutative Sphere and its Moyal bracket

An infinite dimensional algebra which is a non-decomposable reducible representation of $su(2)$ is given. This algebra is defined with respect to two real parameters. If one of these parameters is zero the algebra is the commutative algebra of functions on the sphere, otherwise it is a noncommutative analogue. This is an extension of the algebra normally refered to as the (Berezin) quantum sphere or ``fuzzy'' sphere. A natural indefinite ``inner'' product and a basis of the algebra orthogonal with respect to it are given. The basis elements are homogenious polynomials, eigenvectors of a Laplacian, and related to the Hahn polynomials. It is shown that these elements tend to the spherical harmonics for the sphere. A Moyal bracket is constructed and shown to be the standard Moyal bracket for the sphere.

A note on the eight tetrahedron equations

In this paper we derive from arguments of string scattering a set of eight tetrahedron equations, with different index orderings. It is argued that this system of equations is the proper system that represents integrable structures in three dimensions generalising the Yang-Baxter equation. Under additional restrictions this system reduces to the usual tetrahedron equation in the vertex form. Most known solutions fall under this class, but it is by no means necessary. Comparison is made with the work on braided monoidal 2-categories also leading to eight tetrahedron equations.

Linear Connections on Graphs

In recent years, discrete spaces such as graphs attract much attention as models for physical spacetime or as models for testing the spirit of non-commutative geometry. In this work, we construct the differential algebras for graphs by extending the work of Dimakis et al and discuss linear connections and curvatures on graphs. Especially, we calculate connections and curvatures explicitly for the general nonzero torsion case. There is a metric, but no metric-compatible connection in general except the complete symmetric graph with two vertices.

SU(N) Meander Determinants

We propose a generalization of meanders, i.e., configurations of non-selfintersecting loops crossing a line through a given number of points, to SU(N). This uses the reformulation of meanders as pairs of reduced elements of the Temperley-Lieb algebra, a SU(2)-related quotient of the Hecke algebra, with a natural generalization to SU(N). We also derive explicit formulas for SU(N) meander determinants, defined as the Gram determinants of the corresponding bases of the Hecke algebra.

Coloured quantum universal enveloping algebras

We define some new algebraic structures, termed coloured Hopf algebras, by combining the coalgebra structures and antipodes of a standard Hopf algebra set $\cal H$, corresponding to some parameter set $\cal Q$, with the transformations of an algebra isomorphism group $\cal G$, herein called colour group. Such transformations are labelled by some colour parameters, taking values in a colour set $\cal C$. We show that various classes of Hopf algebras, such as almost cocommutative, coboundary, quasitriangular, and triangular ones, can be extended into corresponding coloured algebraic structures, and that coloured quasitriangular Hopf algebras, in particular, are characterized by the existence of a coloured universal $\cal R$-matrix, satisfying the coloured Yang-Baxter equation. The present definitions extend those previously introduced by Ohtsuki, which correspond to some substructures in those cases where the colour group is abelian. We apply the new concepts to construct coloured quantum universal enveloping algebras of both semisimple and nonsemisimple Lie algebras, considering several examples with fixed or varying parameters. As a by-product, some of the matrix representations of coloured universal $\cal R$-matrices, derived in the present paper, provide new solutions of the coloured Yang-Baxter equation, which might be of interest in the context of integrable models.

A Natural Basis for Spinor and Vector Fields on the Noncommutative sphere

The product of two Heisenberg-Weil algebras contains the Jordan-Schwinger representation of su(2). This Algebra is quotiented by the square-root of the Casimir to produce a non-associative algebra denoted by $Ψ$. This algebra may be viewed as the right-module over one of its associative subalgebras which corresponds to the algebra of scalar fields on the noncommutative sphere. It is now possible to interpret other subspaces as the space of spinor or vector fields on the noncommutative sphere. A natural basis of $Ψ$ is given which may be interpreted as the deformed entries in the rotation matrices of SU(2).

On Pairs of Difference Operators Satisfying: [P,Q] = Id

Different finite difference replacements for the derivative are analyzed in the context of the Heisenberg commutation relation. The type of the finite difference operator is shown to be tied to whether one can naturally consider $P$ and $X$ to be self-adjoint and skew self-adjoint or whether they have to be viewed as creation and annihilation operators. The first class, generalizing the central difference scheme, is shown to give unitary equivalent representations. For the second case we construct a large class of examples, generalizing previously known difference operator realizations of $[P,X]=Id$.

Shadow of noncommutativity

We analyse the structure of the $κ=0$ limit of a family of algebras $A_κ$ describing noncommutative versions of space-time, with $κ$ a parameter of noncommutativity. Assuming the Poincaré covariance of the $κ=0$ limit, we show that, besides the algebra of functions on Minkowski space, $A_0$ must contain a nontrivial extra factor $A^I_0$ which is Lorentz covariant and which does not commute with the functions whenever it is not commutative. We give a general description of the possibilities and analyse some representative examples.

Duals of coloured quantum universal enveloping algebras and coloured universal $\cal T$-matrices

We extend the notion of dually conjugate Hopf (super)algebras to the coloured Hopf (super)algebras ${\cal H}^c$ that we recently introduced. We show that if the standard Hopf (super)algebras ${\cal H}_q$ that are the building blocks of ${\cal H}^c$ have Hopf duals ${\cal H}_q^*$, then the latter may be used to construct coloured Hopf duals ${\cal H}^{c*}$, endowed with coloured algebra and antipode maps, but with a standard coalgebraic structure. Next, we review the case where the ${\cal H}_q$'s are quantum universal enveloping algebras of Lie (super)algebras $U_q(g)$, so that the corresponding ${\cal H}_q^*$'s are quantum (super)groups $G_q$. We extend the Fronsdal and Galindo universal ${\cal T}$-matrix formalism to the coloured pairs $(U^c(g), G^c)$ by defining coloured universal ${\cal T}$-matrices. We then show that together with the coloured universal $\cal R$-matrices previously introduced, the latter provide an algebraic formulation of the coloured RTT-relations, proposed by Basu-Mallick. This establishes a link between the coloured extensions of Drinfeld-Jimbo and Faddeev-Reshetikhin-Takhtajan pictures of quantum groups and quantum algebras. Finally, we illustrate the construction of coloured pairs by giving some explicit results for the two-parameter deformations of $\bigl(U(gl(2)), Gl(2)\bigr)$, and $\bigl(U(gl(1/1)), Gl(1/1)\bigr)$.

BRST Symmetries for the Tangent Gauge Group

For any principal bundle $P$, one can consider the subspace of the space of connections on its tangent bundle $TP$ given by the tangent bundle $T{\cal A}$ of the space of connections ${\cal A}$ on $P$. The tangent gauge group acts freely on $T{\cal A}$. Appropriate BRST operators are introduced for quantum field theories that include as fields elements of $T{\cal A}$, as well as tangent vectors to the space of curvatures. As the simplest application, the BRST symmetry of the so-called $BF$-Yang-Mills theory is described and the relevant gauge fixing conditions are analyzed. A brief account on the topological $BF$ theories is also included and the relevant Batalin-Vilkovisky operator is described.
