Crossingless matchings and the cohomology of (n,n) Springer varieties

The sequence of rings $H^n, n\ge 0,$ introduced in math.QA/0103190, controls categorification of the quantum sl(2) invariant of tangles. We prove that the center of $H^n$ is isomorphic to the cohomology ring of the (n,n) Springer variety and show that the braid group action in the derived category of $H^n$-modules descends to the Springer action of the symmetric group.

Remarks on definition of Khovanov homology

Mikhail Khovanov in math.QA/9908171 defined, for a diagram of an oriented classical link, a collection of groups numerated by pairs of integers. These groups were constructed as homology groups of certain chain complexes. The Euler characteristics of these complexes are coefficients of the Jones polynomial of the link. The goal of this note is to rewrite this construction in terms more friendly to topologists. A version of Khovanov homology for framed links is introduced. For framed links whose Kauffman brackets are involved in a skein relation, these homology groups are related by an exact sequence.

Twisting of quantum spaces and twisted coHom objects

Twisting process for quantum linear spaces is defined. It consists in a particular kind of globally defined deformations on finitely generated algebras. Given a quantum space (A_1,A), a multiplicative cosimplicial quasicomplex C[A_1] in the category Grp is associated to A_1, in such a way that for every n a subclass of linear automorphisms of A^{\otimes n} is obtained from the groups C^n[A_1]. Among the elements of this subclass, the counital 2-cocycles are those which define the twist transformations. In these terms, the twisted internal coHom objects, constructed in a previous paper (cf. math.QA/0112233), can be described as twisting of the proper coHom objects, enabling us in turn to generalize the mentioned construction. The quasicomplexes C[V], V a vector space, are studied in detail, showing for instance that, when V is a coalgebra, the quasicomplexes related to Drinfeld twisting, corresponding to bialgebras generated by V, are subobjects of C[V].

Axiomatic $G_{1}$-vertex algebras

Inspired by the Borcherds' work on ``$G$-vertex algebras,'' we formulate and study an axiomatic counterpart of Borcherds' notion of $G$-vertex algebra for the simplest nontrivial elementary vertex group, which we denote by $G_{1}$. Specifically, we formulate a notion of axiomatic $G_{1}$-vertex algebra, prove certain basic properties and give certain examples, where the notion of axiomatic $G_{1}$-vertex algebra is a nonlocal generalization of the notion of vertex algebra. We also show how to construct axiomatic $G_{1}$-vertex algebras from a set of compatible $G_{1}$-vertex operators. The results of this paper were reported in June 2001, at the International Conference on Lie Algebras in the Morningside center, Beijing, China, and were reported on November 30, 2001, in the Quantum Mathematics Seminar, at Rutgers-New Brunswick. We noticed that a paper of Bakalov and Kac appeared today (math.QA/0204282) on noncommutative generalizations of vertex algebras, which has certain overlaps with the current paper. On the other hand, most of their results are orthogonal to the results of this paper.

Analysis of Zeta Functions, Multiple Zeta Values, and Related Integrals

In this work, we begin to uncover the architecture of the general family of zeta functions and multiple zeta values as they appear in the theory of integrable systems and conformal field theory. One of the key steps in this process is to recognize the roles that zeta functions play in various arenas using transform methods. Other logical connections are provided by the the appearance of the Drinfeld associator, Hopf algebras, and techniques of conformal field theory and braid groups. These recurring themes are subtly linked in a vast scheme of a logically woven tapestry. An immediate application of this framework is to provide an answer to a question of Kontsevich regarding the appearance of Drinfeld type integrals and in particular, multiple zeta values in: a) Drinfeld's work on the KZ equation and the associator; b) Etingof-Kazhdan's quantization of Poisson-Lie algebras; c) Tamarkin's proof of formality theorems; d) Kontsevich's quantization of Poisson manifolds. Combinatorial arguments relating Feynman diagrams to Selberg integrals, multiple zeta values, and finally Poisson manifolds provide an additional step in this framework. Along the way, we provide additional insight into the various papers and theorems mentioned above. This paper represents an overall introduction to work currently in progress. More details to follow. See our paper Math.QA/[ ] for a proof of the Connes Kreimer Conjecture.

Traces of intertwiners for quantum groups and difference equations, II

In this paper we study twisted traces of products of intertwining operators for quantum affine algebras. They are interesting special functions, depending on two weights lambda, mu, three scalar parameters q, omega, k, and spectral parameters z_1,...,z_N, which may be regarded as q-analogs of conformal blocks of the Wess-Zumino-Witten model on an elliptic curve. It is expected that in the rank 1 case they essentially coincide with the elliptic hypergeometric functions defined in math.QA/0110081. Our main result is that after a suitable renormalization the traces satisfy four systems of difference equations -- the Macdonald-Ruijsenaars equation, the q-Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov-Bernard equation, and their dual versions. We also show that in the case when the twisting automorphism is trivial, the trace functions are symmetric under the permutation lambda <--> mu, k <--> omega. Thus, our results here generalize our previous results, dealing with the case q = 1 and the finite dimensional case.

Spaces of coinvariants and fusion product II. Affine sl_2 character formulas in terms of Kostka polynomials

In this paper, we continue our study of the Hilbert polynomials of coinvariants begun in our previous work math.QA/0205324 (paper I). We describe the sl_n-fusion products for symmetric tensor representations following the method of Feigin and Feigin, and show that their Hilbert polynomials are A_{n-1}-supernomials. We identify the fusion product of arbitrary irreducible sl_n-modules with the fusion product of their resctriction to sl_{n-1}. Then using the equivalence theorem from paper I and the results above for sl_3, we give a fermionic formula for the Hilbert polynomials of a class of affine sl_2-coinvariants in terms of the level-restricted Kostka polynomials. The coinvariants under consideration are a generalization of the coinvariants studied in [FKLMM]. Our formula differs from the fermionic formula established in [FKLMM] and implies the alternating sum formula conjectured in [FL] for this case.

Standard modules for tabular algebras

We introduce cell modules for the tabular algebras defined in a previous work (math.QA/0107230); these modules are analogous to the representations arising from left Kazhdan--Lusztig cells. The standard modules of the title are constructed in an elementary way by suitable tensoring of the cell modules. We show how a certain extended affine Hecke algebra of type $A$ equipped with its Kazhdan--Lusztig basis is an example of a tabular algebra, and verify that in this case our standard modules coincide with other standard modules defined in the literature.

Noncommutative two-tori with real multiplication as noncommutative projective varieties

We define analogues of homogeneous coordinate algebras for noncommutative two-tori with real multiplication. We prove that the categories of standard holomorphic vector bundles on such noncommutative tori can be described in terms of graded modules over appropriate homogeneous coordinate algebras. We give a criterion for such an algebra to be Koszul and prove that the Koszul dual algebra also comes from some noncommutative two-torus with real multiplication. These results are based on the techniques of math.QA/0211262 allowing to interpret all the data in terms of autoequivalences of the derived categories of coherent sheaves on elliptic curves.

Koszulity for nonquadratic algebras II

It has been shown recently, in a joint work with Michel Dubois-Violette and Marc Wambst (see math.QA/0203035), that Koszul property of $N$-homogeneous algebras (as defined in the original paper) becomes natural in a $N$-complex setting. A basic question is to define the differential of the bimodule Koszul complex of an $N$-homogeneous algebra, e.g., for computing its Hochschild homology. The differential defined here uses $N$-complexes. That puts right the wrong differential presented in the original paper in a 2-complex setting. Actually, as we shall see, it is impossible to avoid $N$-complexes in defining the differential, whereas the bimodule Koszul complex is a 2-complex.

The orthogonality and qKZB-heat equation for traces of U_q(g)-intertwiners

In our previous paper math.QA/9907181, to every finite dimensional representation V of the quantum group U_q(g), we attached the trace function F^V(λ,μ), with values in End V[0], obtained by taking the (weighted) trace in a Verma module of an intertwining operator. We showed that these trace functions satisfy the Macdonald-Ruijsenaars and the qKZB equations, their dual versions, and the symmetry identity. In this paper we show that the trace functions satisfy the orthogonality relation and the qKZB-heat equation. For g=sl_2, this statement is the trigonometric degeneration of a conjecture of Felder and the second author, proved by them for the 3-dimensional irreducible V. We also establish the orthogonality relation and qKZB-heat equation for trace functions obtained by taking traces in finite dimensional representations (rather than Verma modules). If g=sl_n and V=S^{kn}C^n, these functions are known to be Macdonald polynomials of type A. In this case, the orthogonality relation reduces to the Macdonald inner product identities, and the qKZB-heat equation coincides with the q-Macdonald-Mehta identity, proved by Cherednik.

The t-Analogs of q-Characters at Roots of Unity for Quantum Affine Algebras and Beyound

The q-characters were introduced by Frenkel and mReshetikhin to study finite dimensional representations of the untwisted quantum affine algebra for q generic. The $ε$-characters at roots of unity were constructed by Frenkel and Mukhin to study finite dimensional representations of various specializations of the quantum affine algebra at $q^s=1$. In the finite simply laced case Nakajima defined deformations of q-characters called q,t-characters, for q generic and also at roots of unity. The definition is combinatorial but the proof of the existence uses the geometric theory of quiver varieties which holds only in the simply laced case. In math.QA/0212257 we proposed an algebraic general (non necessarily simply laced) new approach to q,t-characters for q generic. In this paper we treat the root of unity case. Moreover we construct q-characters and q,t-characters for a large class of generalized Cartan matrices (including finite and affine cases except $A_1^{(1)}$, $A_2^{(2)}$) by extending our algebraic approach. In particular we generalize the construction of Nakajima's Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials at roots of unity to those cases. We also study properties of various objects used in this article : deformed screening operators at roots of unity, t-deformed polynomial algebras, bicharacters arising from symmetrizable Cartan matrices, deformation of the Frenkel-Mukhin's algorithm.

Classification of holomorphic vector bundles on noncommutative two-tori

We prove that every holomorphic vector bundle on a noncommutative two-torus $T$ can be obtained by successive extensions from standard holomorphic bundles considered in math.QA/0211262. This implies that the category of holomorphic bundles on $T$ is equivalent to the heart of certain $t$-structure on the derived category of coherent sheaves on an elliptic curve.

Khovanov's conjecture over Z[c]

We disprove the conjecture of M. Khovanov (math.QA/9908171) on the functoriality of his link homology with polynomial coefficients. This is in contrast to the case of integer coefficients, where functoriality was proved in math.GT/0206303 .

Dynamical Yang-Baxter equations, quasi-Poisson homogeneous spaces, and quantization

This paper is a continuation of [KS]. We develop the results of [KS] principally in two directions. First, we generalize the main result of [KS], the connection between the solutions of the classical dynamical Yang-Baxter equation and Poisson homogeneous spaces of Poisson Lie groups. We hope that now we present this result in its natural generality. Secondly, we propose a partial quantization of the results of [KS]. [KS] E. Karolinsky and A. Finite dimensional quasi-Hopf algebras with radical of codimension 2

It is shown in math.QA/0301027 that a finite dimensional quasi-Hopf algebra with radical of codimension 1 is semisimple and 1-dimensional. On the other hand, there exist quasi-Hopf (in fact, Hopf) algebras, whose radical has codimension 2. Namely, it is known that these are exactly the Nichols Hopf algebras H_{2^n} of dimension 2^n, n\ge 1 (one for each value of n). The main result of this paper is that if H is a finite dimensional quasi-Hopf algebra over C with radical of codimension 2, then H is twist equivalent to a Nichols Hopf algebra H_{2^n}, n\ge 1, or to a lifting of one of the four special quasi-Hopf algebras H(2), H_+(8), H_-(8), H(32) of dimensions 2, 8, 8, and 32, defined in Section 3. As a corollary we obtain that any finite tensor category which has two invertible objects and no other simple object is equivalent to \Rep(H_{2^n}) for a unique n\ge 1, or to a deformation of the representation category of H(2), H_+(8), H_-(8), or H(32). As another corollary we prove that any nonsemisimple quasi-Hopf algebra of dimension 4 is twist equivalent to H_4.

Virasoro Algebra, Dedekind $η$-function and Specialized Macdonald's Identities

We motivate and prove a series of identities which form a generalization of the Euler's pentagonal number theorem, and are closely related to specialized Macdonald's identities for powers of the Dedekind $η$--function. More precisely, we show that what we call ``denominator formula'' for the Virasoro algebra has ``higher analogue'' for all $c_{s,t}$-minimal models. We obtain one identity per series which is in agreement with features of conformal field theory such as {\em fusion} and {\em modular invariance} that require all the irreducible modules of the series. In particular, in the case of $c_{2,2k+1}$--minimal models we give a new proof of a family of specialized Macdonald's identities associated with twisted affine Lie algebras of type $A^{(2)}_{2k}, k \geq 2$ (i.e., $BC_k$-affine root system) which involve $(2k^2-k)$-th powers of the Dedekind $η$-function. Our paper is in many ways a continuation of math.QA/0309201.
