The Plancherel decomposition for a reductive symmetric space II. Representation theory

We obtain the Plancherel decomposition for a reductive symmetric space in the sense of representation theory. Our starting point is the Plancherel formula for spherical Schwartz functions, obtained in part I (math.RT/0107063). The formula for Schwartz functions involves Eisenstein integrals obtained by a residual calculus. In the present paper we identify these integrals as matrix coefficients of the generalized principal series.

Combinatorics and invariant differential operators on multiplicity free spaces

We study the generalization of shifted Jack polynomials to arbitrary multiplicity free spaces. In a previous paper (math.RT/0006004) we showed that these polynomials are eigenfunctions for commuting difference operators. Our central result now is the "transposition formula", a generalization of Okounkov's binomial theorem (q-alg/9608021) for shifted Jack polynomials. From this formula, we derive an interpolation formula, an evaluation formula, a scalar product, a binomial theorem, and properties of the algebra generated by the multiplication and difference operators.

Elementary invariants for centralizers of nilpotent matrices

We construct an explicit set of algebraically independent generators for the center of the universal enveloping algebra of the centralizer of a nilpotent matrix in the Lie algebra gl_N(C). In particular, this gives a new proof of the freeness of the center, a result first proved by Panyushev, Premet and Yakimova (math.RT/0610049).

Geometric Weil representation: local field case

Let k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic >2, F=k((t)) and Mp(F) denote the metaplectic extension of Sp_{2d}(F). In this paper we propose a geometric analog of the Weil representation of Mp(F). This is a category of certain perverse sheaves on some stack, on which Mp(F) acts by functors. This construction will be used in math.RT/0701170 (and subsequent publications) for a proof of the geometric Langlands functoriality for some dual reductive pairs.

To the multidimensional tame symbol

We give a construction of the two-dimensional tame symbol as the commutator of a group-like monoidal groupoid which is obtained from some group of k-linear operators acting in a two-dimensional local field and corresponds to some third cohomology class of this group. We give also the hypothetical method for the proof of the two-dimensional Parshin reciprocity laws. This text was written in 2003 as preprint 03-13 of the Humboldt University of Berlin and was available at http://edoc.hu-berlin.de/docviews/abstract.php?id=26204 (only evident misprints are corrected now). Later E. Frenkel and X. Zhu obtained in arXiv:0810.1487 [math.RT] more general results concerning the third cohomology classes of groups acting on two-dimensional local fields, and the author and X. Zhu obtained in arXiv:1002.4848 [math.AG] the proof of the Parshin reciprocity laws on an algebraic surface similar to the Tate proof of the residue formula on an algebraic curve.

Explicit Forms of Cluster Variables on Double Bruhat Cells G^{u,e} of type C

Let $G=Sp_{2r}({\mathbb C})$ be a simply connected simple algebraic group over $\mathbb{C}$ of type $C_r$, $B$ and $B_-$ be its two opposite Borel subgroups, and $W$ be the associated Weyl group. For $u$, $v\in W$, it is known that the coordinate ring ${\mathbb C}[G^{u,v}]$ of the double Bruhat cell $G^{u,v}=BuB\cap B_-vB_-$ is isomorphic to an upper cluster algebra $\overline{\mathcal{A}}(\textbf{i})_{\mathbb C}$ and the generalized minors $Δ(k;\textbf{i})$ are the cluster variables of ${\mathbb C}[G^{u,v}]$[Berenstein A., Fomin S., Zelevinsky A., Duke Math. J. 126 (2005), 1-52, math.RT/0305434]. In the case $v=e$, we shall describe the generalized minor $Δ(k;\textbf{i})$ explicitly.

In the case $v=e$, we shall describe the generalized minor $Δ(k;\textbf{i})$ explicitly.

How to superize the notion of Kaehler manifold

The definition of Kaehler manifold is superized. In the super setting, it admits a continuous parameter, unlike their analogs on manifolds. This parameter runs the same singular supervariety of parameters that parameterize deformations of the Schouten bracket (a.k.a. Buttin bracket, a.k.a. anti-bracket) considered as deformations of the Lie superalgebra structure given by the bracket. The same idea yields definitions of several versions of hyper-Kaeahler supermanifolds depending on parameters that also run over a singular supervariety. Moreover, the same idea is potentially applicable to the Kaehler and hyper-Kaehler manifolds (or supermanifolds corresponding to the even tensors that define them); in these cases infinite-dimensional (super)manifolds should enter the picture. Strangely enough, "how to embody this idea for the case of only even tensors involved?" is an open problem. The actions of Lie algebras on the space of differential forms on symplectic, and hyper-Kaehler manifold (known already to A.Weil, and Verbitsky, respectively) are extended to actions of Lie superalgebras on the same spaces with values in a line bundle with a maximally non-integrable connections, see Leites D., Shchepochkina I., The Howe duality and Lie superalgebras. Tilted biorthogonal ensembles, Grothendieck random partitions, and determinantal tests

We study probability measures on partitions based on symmetric Grothendieck polynomials. These deformations of Schur polynomials introduced in the K-theory of Grassmannians share many common properties. Our Grothendieck measures are analogs of the Schur measures on partitions introduced by Okounkov (arXiv:math/9907127 [math.RT]). Despite the similarity of determinantal formulas for the probability weights of Schur and Grothendieck measures, we demonstrate that Grothendieck measures are \emph{not} determinantal point processes. This question is related to the principal minor assignment problem in algebraic geometry, and we employ a determinantal test first obtained by Nanson in 1897 for the $4\times4$ problem. We also propose a procedure for getting Nanson-like determinantal tests for matrices of any size $n\ge4$ which appear new for $n\ge 5$. By placing the Grothendieck measures into a new framework of tilted biorthogonal ensembles generalizing a rich class of determinantal processes introduced by Borodin (arXiv:math/9804027 [math.CA]), we identify Grothendieck random partitions as a cross-section of a Schur process, a determinantal process in two dimensions. This identification expresses the correlation functions of Grothendieck measures through sums of Fredholm determinants, which are not immediately suitable for asymptotic analysis. A more direct approach allows us to obtain a limit shape result for the Grothendieck random partitions. The limit shape curve is not particularly explicit as it arises as a cross-section of the limit shape surface for the Schur process. The gradient of this surface is expressed through the argument of a complex root of a cubic equation.

Correlation functions for symmetrized increasing subsequences

We show that the correlation functions associated to symmetrized increasing subsequence problems can be expressed as pfaffians of certain antisymmetric matrix kernels, thus generalizing the result of math.RT/9907127 for the unsymmetrized case.

Correlation function of Schur process with application to local geometry of a random 3-dimensional Young diagram

Schur process is a time-dependent analog of the Schur measure on partitions studied in math.RT/9907127. Our first result is that the correlation functions of the Schur process are determinants with a kernel that has a nice contour integral representation in terms of the parameters of the process. This general result is then applied to a particular specialization of the Schur process, namely to random 3-dimensional Young diagrams. The local geometry of a large random 3-dimensional diagram is described in terms of a determinantal point process on a 2-dimensional lattice with the incomplete beta function kernel (which generalizes the discrete sine kernel). A brief discussion of the universality of this answer concludes the paper.

On the irreducibility of a truncated binomial expansion

Let P_nk(x) denote the sum of the lowest k+1 terms in the expansion of (1+x)^n. We investigate the irreducibility of P_nk(x) and more general univariate polynomials related to it. Polynomials P_nk(x) naturally arise in Schubert calculus, see ArXiv e-print math.RT/0409329 by I.Scherbak.

Cluster algebras II: Finite type classification

This paper continues the study of cluster algebras initiated in math.RT/0104151. Its main result is the complete classification of the cluster algebras of finite type, i.e., those with finitely many clusters. This classification turns out to be identical to the Cartan-Killing classification of semisimple Lie algebras and finite root systems, which is intriguing since in most cases, the symmetry exhibited by the Cartan-Killing type of a cluster algebra is not at all apparent from its geometric origin. The combinatorial structure behind a cluster algebra of finite type is captured by its cluster complex. We identify this complex as the normal fan of a generalized associahedron introduced and studied in hep-th/0111053 and math.CO/0202004. Another essential combinatorial ingredient of our arguments is a new characterization of the Dynkin diagrams.

Opers with irregular singularity and spectra of the shift of argument subalgebra

The universal enveloping algebra of any simple Lie algebra g contains a family of commutative subalgebras, called the quantum shift of argument subalgebras math.RT/0606380, math.QA/0612798. We prove that generically their action on finite-dimensional modules is diagonalizable and their joint spectra are in bijection with the set of monodromy-free opers for the Langlands dual group of G on the projective line with regular singularity at one point and irregular singularity of order two at another point. We also prove a multi-point generalization of this result, describing the spectra of commuting Hamiltonians in Gaudin models with irregular singulairity. In addition, we show that the quantum shift of argument subalgebra corresponding to a regular nilpotent element of g has a cyclic vector in any irreducible finite-dimensional g-module. As a byproduct, we obtain the structure of a Gorenstein ring on any such module. This fact may have geometric significance related to the intersection cohomology of Schubert varieties in the affine Grassmannian.

Cluster Variables on Certain Double Bruhat Cells of Type $(u,e)$ and Monomial Realizations of Crystal Bases of Type A

Let $G$ be a simply connected simple algebraic group over $\mathbb{C}$, $B$ and $B_-$ be two opposite Borel subgroups in $G$ and $W$ be the Weyl group. For $u$, $v\in W$, it is known that the coordinate ring ${\mathbb C}[G^{u,v}]$ of the double Bruhat cell $G^{u,v}=BuB\cap B_-vB_-$ is isomorphic to an upper cluster algebra $\bar{\mathcal A}({\bf i})_{\mathbb C}$ and the generalized minors $\{Δ(k;{\bf i})\}$ are the cluster variables belonging to a given initial seed in ${\mathbb C}[G^{u,v}]$ [Berenstein A., Fomin S., Zelevinsky A., Duke Math. J. 126 (2005), 1-52, math.RT/0305434]. In the case $G={\rm SL}_{r+1}({\mathbb C})$, $v=e$ and some special $u\in W$, we shall describe the generalized minors $\{Δ(k;{\bf i})\}$ as summations of monomial realizations of certain Demazure crystals.

Quantum Hyperdeterminants and Hyper-Pfaffians

The notion of generalized quantum monoids is introduced. It is proved that the quantum coordinate ring of the monoid can be lifted to a quantum hyper-algebra, in which the quantum determinant and quantum Pfaffian are sent to the quantum hyperdeterminant and quantum hyper-Pfaffian respectively. The quantum hyperdeterminant in even dimension is shown to be a $q$-analog of Cayley's first hyperdeterminant.

Hall algebras and quantum symmetric pairs II: reflection functors

Recently the authors initiated an $\imath$Hall algebra approach to (universal) $\imath$quantum groups arising from quantum symmetric pairs. In this paper we construct and study BGP type reflection functors which lead to isomorphisms of the $\imath$Hall algebras associated to acyclic $\imath$quivers. For Dynkin quivers, these symmetries on $\imath$Hall algebras induce automorphisms of universal $\imath$quantum groups, which are shown to satisfy the braid group relations associated to the restricted Weyl group of a symmetric pair; conjecturally these continue to hold for acyclic quivers/Kac-Moody setting. This leads to a conceptual construction of $q$-root vectors and PBW bases for (universal) quasi-split $\imath$quantum groups of ADE type.
