The Structure of the Bazhanov-Baxter Model and a New Solution of the Tetrahedron Equation

We clarify the structure of the Bazhanov-Baxter model of the 3-dim N-state integrable model. There are two essential points, i) the cubic symmetries, and ii) the spherical trigonometry parametrization, to understand the structure of this model. We propose two approaches to find a candidate as a solution of the tetrahedron equation, and we find a new solution.

Calogero-Moser Models IV: Limits to Toda theory

Calogero-Moser models and Toda models are well-known integrable multi-particle dynamical systems based on root systems associated with Lie algebras. The relation between these two types of integrable models is investigated at the levels of the Hamiltonians and the Lax pairs. The Lax pairs of Calogero-Moser models are specified by the representations of the reflection groups, which are not the same as those of the corresponding Lie algebras. The latter specify the Lax pairs of Toda models. The Hamiltonians of the elliptic Calogero-Moser models tend to those of Toda models as one of the periods of the elliptic function goes to infinity, provided the dynamical variables are properly shifted and the coupling constants are scaled. On the other hand most of Calogero-Moser Lax pairs, for example, the root type Lax pairs, do not a have consistent Toda model limit. The minimal type Lax pairs, which corresponds to the minimal representations of the Lie algebras, tend to the Lax pairs of the corresponding Toda models.

Calogero-Moser Models V: Supersymmetry and Quantum Lax Pair

It is shown that the Calogero-Moser models based on all root systems of the finite reflection groups (both the crystallographic and non-crystallographic cases) with the rational (with/without a harmonic confining potential), trigonometric and hyperbolic potentials can be simply supersymmetrised in terms of superpotentials. There is a universal formula for the supersymmetric ground state wavefunction. Since the bosonic part of each supersymmetric model is the usual quantum Calogero-Moser model, this gives a universal formula for its ground state wavefunction and energy, which is determined purely algebraically. Quantum Lax pair operators and conserved quantities for all the above Calogero-Moser models are established.

Covariance Properties of Reflection Equation Algebras

The reflection equations (RE) are a consistent extension of the Yang-Baxter equations (YBE) with an addition of one element, the so-called reflection matrix or $K$-matrix. For example, they describe the conditions for factorizable scattering on a half line just like the YBE give the conditions for factorizable scattering on an entire line. The YBE were generalized to define quadratic algebras, \lq Yang-Baxter algebras\rq\ (YBA), which were used intensively for the discussion of quantum groups. Similarly, the RE define quadratic algebras, \lq the reflection equation algebras\rq\ (REA), which enjoy various remarkable properties both new and inherited from the YBA. Here we focus on the various properties of the REA, in particular, the quantum group comodule properties, generation of a series of new solutions by composing known solutions, the extended REA and the central elements, etc.

On a class of rational and mixed soliton-rational solutions of Toda lattice

A class of rational solutions of Toda lattice satisfying certain Backlund transformations and a class of mixed rational-soliton solutions (quasisolitons) in wronskian formare obtained using the method of Ablowitz and Satsuma. Also an extended class of rational solutions are found using an appropriate recursion relation. They are also solutions of Boussinesq equation and it is conjectured that there is a larger class of common solutions of both equations.

The Ruijsenaars-Schneider Model

We seek to clarify some of the physical aspects of the Ruijsenaars-Schneider models. This important class of models was presented as a relativistic generalisation of the Calogero-Moser models but, as we shall argue, this description is misleading. It is far better to simply view the models as a one-parameter generalisation of Calogero-Moser models. By viewing the models as describing certain eigenvalue motions we can appreciate the generic nature of the models.

Separation of Variables. New Trends.

The review is based on the author's papers since 1985 in which a new approach to the separation of variables (\SoV) has being developed. It is argued that \SoV, understood generally enough, could be the most universal tool to solve integrable models of the classical and quantum mechanics. It is shown that the standard construction of the action-angle variables from the poles of the Baker-Akhiezer function can be interpreted as a variant of \SoV, and moreover, for many particular models it has a direct quantum counterpart. The list of the models discussed includes XXX and XYZ magnets, Gaudin model, Nonlinear Schrödinger equation, $SL(3)$-invariant magnetic chain. New results for the 3-particle quantum Calogero-Moser system are reported.

Spatial Solitons in Media with Delayed-Response Optical Nonlinearities

Near-soliton scanning light-beam propagation in media with both delayed-response Kerr-type and thermal nonlinearities is analyzed. The delayed-response part of the Kerr nonlinearity is shown to be competitive as compared to the thermal nonlinearity, and relevant contributions to a distortion of the soliton form and phase can be mutually compensated. This quasi-soliton beam propagation regime keeps properties of the incli- ned self-trapped channel.

Exact Solutions of a (2+1)-Dimensional Nonlinear Klein-Gordon Equation

The purpose of this paper is to present a class of particular solutions of a C(2,1) conformally invariant nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation by symmetry reduction. Using the subgroups of similitude group reduced ordinary differential equations of second order and their solutions by a singularity analysis are classified. In particular, it has been shown that whenever they have the Painlevé property, they can be transformed to standard forms by Moebius transformations of dependent variable and arbitrary smooth transformations of independent variable whose solutions, depending on the values of parameters, are expressible in terms of either elementary functions or Jacobi elliptic functions.

Symmetry approach in boundary value problems

The problem of construction of the boundary conditions for nonlinear equations is considered compatible with their higher symmetries. Boundary conditions for the sine-Gordon, Jiber-Shabat and KdV equations are discussed. New examples are found for the Jiber-Shabat equation.

Symmetry Reductions of the Lax Pair of the Four-Dimensional Euclidean Self-Dual Yang-Mills Equations

The reduction by symmetry of the linear system of the self-dual Yang-Mills equations in four-dimensions under representatives of the conjugacy classes of subgroups of the connected part to the identity of the corresponding Euclidean group under itself is carried out. Only subgroups leading to systems of differential equations nonequivalent to conditions of zero curvature without parameter, or to systems of uncoupled first order linear O.D.E.'s are considered. Lax pairs for a modified form of the Nahm's equations as well as for systems of partial differential equations in two and three dimensions are written out.

A Nonrelativistic Chiral Soliton in One Dimension

I analyze the one-dimensional, cubic Schrödinger equation, with nonlinearity constructed from the current density, rather than, as is usual, from the charge density. A soliton solution is found, where the soliton moves only in one direction. Relation to higher-dimensional Chern--Simons theory is indicated. The theory is quantized and results for the two-body quantum problem agree at weak coupling with those coming from a semiclassical quantization of the soliton.

Graded Symmetry Algebras of Time-Dependent Evolution Equations and Application to the Modified KP equations

By starting from known graded Lie algebras, including Virasoro algebras, new kinds of time-dependent evolution equations are found possessing graded symmetry algebras. The modified KP equations are taken as an illustrative example: new modified KP equations with $m$ arbitrary time-dependent coefficients are obtained possessing symmetries involving $m$ arbitrary functions of time. A particular graded symmetry algebra for the modified KP equations is derived in this connection homomorphic to the Virasoro algebras.

Is the classical Bukhvostov-Lipatov model integrable? A Painlevé analysis

In this work we apply the Weiss, Tabor and Carnevale integrability criterion (Painlevé analysis) to the classical version of the two dimensional Bukhvostov-Lipatov model. We are led to the conclusion that the model is not integrable classically, except at a trivial point where the theory can be described in terms of two uncoupled sine-Gordon models.

Coupled KdV equations of Hirota-Satsuma type

It is shown that the system of two coupled Korteweg-de Vries equations passes the Painlevé test for integrability in nine distinct cases of its coefficients. The integrability of eight cases is verified by direct construction of Lax pairs, whereas for one case it remains unknown.

A note on the third family of N=2 supersymmetric KdV hierarchies

We propose a hamiltonian formulation of the $N=2$ supersymmetric KP type hierarchy recently studied by Krivonos and Sorin. We obtain a quadratic hamiltonian structure which allows for several reductions of the KP type hierarchy. In particular, the third family of $N=2$ KdV hierarchies is recovered. We also give an easy construction of Wronskian solutions of the KP and KdV type equations.

r-matrices for relativistic deformations of integrable systems

We include the relativistic lattice KP hierarchy, introduced by Gibbons and Kupershmidt, into the $r$-matrix framework. An $r$-matrix account of the nonrelativistic lattice KP hierarchy is also provided for the reader's convenience. All relativistic constructions are regular one-parameter perturbations of the nonrelativistic ones. We derive in a simple way the linear Hamiltonian structure of the relativistic lattice KP, and find for the first time its quadratic Hamiltonian structure. Amasingly, the latter turns out to coincide with its nonrelativistic counterpart (a phenomenon, known previously only for the simplest case of the relativistic Toda lattice).
