Lattice QCD in rotating frames

We formulate lattice QCD in rotating frames to study the physics of QCD matter under rotation. We construct the lattice QCD action with the rotational metric and apply it to the Monte Carlo simulation. As the first application, we calculate the angular momenta of gluons and quarks in the rotating QCD vacuum. This new framework is useful to analyze various rotation-related phenomena in QCD.

Can all cosmological observations be accurately interpreted with a unique geometry?

The recent analysis of the Planck results reveals a tension between the best fits for (Ωm0, H0) derived from the cosmic microwave background or baryonic acoustic oscillations on the one hand, and the Hubble diagram on the other hand. These observations probe the universe on very different scales since they involve light beams of very different angular sizes; hence the tension between them may indicate that they should not be interpreted the same way. More precisely, this Letter questions the accuracy of using only the (perturbed) Friedmann-Lemaître geometry to interpret all the cosmological observations, regardless of their angular or spatial resolution. We show that using an inhomogeneous "Swiss-cheese" model to interpret the Hubble diagram allows to reconcile it with the Planck results. Such an approach does not require us to invoke new physics nor to violate the Copernican principle.

Fundamental Performance Determining Factors of the Ultrahigh-Precision Space-Borne Optical Metrology System for the LISA Pathfinder mission

The LISA Pathfinder mission to space employs an optical metrology system (OMS) at its core to measure the distance and attitude between two freely floating test-masses to picometer and nanorad accuracy, respectively, within the measurement band of [1 mHz, 30 mHz]. The OMS is based upon an ultra-stable optical bench with 4 heterodyne interferometers from which interference signals are read-out and processed by a digital phase-meter. Laser frequency noise, power fluctuations and optical path-length variations are suppressed to uncritical levels by dedicated control loops so that the measurement performance approaches the sensor limit imposed by the phase-meter. The system design is such that low frequency common mode noise which affects the read-out phase of all four interferometers is generally well suppressed by subtraction of a reference phase from the other interferometer signals. However, high frequency noise directly affects measurement performance and its common mode rejection depends strongly on the relative signal phases. We discuss how the data from recent test campaigns point towards high frequency phase noise as a likely performance limiting factor which explains some important performance features.

Cosmological models with interacting components and mass-varying neutrinos

A model for a homogeneous and isotropic spatially flat Universe, composed of baryons, radiation, neutrinos, dark matter and dark energy is analyzed. We infer that dark energy (considered to behave as a scalar field) interacts with dark matter (either by the Wetterich model, or by the Anderson and Carroll model) and with neutrinos by a model proposed by Brookfield et al.. The latter is understood to have a mass-varying behavior. We show that for a very-softly varying field, both interacting models for dark matter give the same results. The models reproduce the expected red-shift performances of the present behavior of the Universe.

Conformal and gauge invariant spin-2 field equations

Using an approach based on the Casimir operators of the de Sitter group, the conformal invariant equations for a fundamental spin-2 field are obtained, and their consistency discussed. It is shown that, only when the spin-2 field is interpreted as a 1-form assuming values in the Lie algebra of the translation group, rather than a symmetric second-rank tensor, the field equation is both conformal and gauge invariant.

Manifold invariants affect dynamics in ADS gravity

The first-order Holst action with negative cosmological constant is rendered finite by requiring functional differentiability on the configuration space of tetrads and connections. The surface terms that arise in the action for ADS gravity are equivalent to the Euler and Pontryagin densities with fixed weight factors; these terms modify the Noether charges that arise from diffeomorphism invariance of the action.

Primordial Magnetism in CMB B-modes

Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) polarization B-modes induced by Faraday Rotation (FR) can provide a distinctive signature of primordial magnetic fields because of their characteristic frequency dependence and because they are only weakly damped on small scales. FR also leads to mode-coupling correlations between the E and B type polarization, and between the temperature and the B-mode. These additional correlations can further help distinguish magnetic fields from other sources of B-modes. We review the FR induced CMB signatures and present the constraints on primordial magnetism that can be expected from upcoming CMB experiments. Our results suggest that FR of CMB will be a promising probe of primordial magnetic fields.

Finite-time singularities in f(R, T) gravity and the effect of conformal anomaly

We investigate $f(R,T)$ gravity models ($R$ is the curvature scalar and $T$ is the trace of the stress-energy tensor of ordinary matter) that are able to reproduce the four known types of future finite-time singularities. We choose a suitable expression for the Hubble parameter in order to realise the cosmic acceleration and we introduce two parameters, $α$ and $H_s$, which characterise each type of singularity. We address conformal anomaly and we observe that it cannot remove the sudden singularity or the type IV one, but, for some values of $α$, the big rip and the type III singularity may be avoided. We also find that, even without taking into account conformal anomaly, the big rip and the type III singularity may be removed thanks to the presence of the $T$ contribution of the $f(R,T)$ theory.

Lyapunov Exponent and Charged Myers Perry Spacetimes

We compute the proper time Lyapunov exponent for charged Myers Perry black hole spacetime and investigate the instability of the equatorial circular geodesics (both timelike and null) via this exponent. We also show that for more than four spacetime dimensions $(N \geq 3)$, there are \emph{no} Innermost Stable Circular Orbits (ISCOs) in charged Myers Perry black hole spacetime. We further show that among all possible circular orbits, timelike circular orbits have \emph{longer} orbital periods than null circular orbits (photon spheres) as measured by asymptotic observers. Thus, timelike circular orbits provide the \emph{slowest way} to orbit around the charged Myers Perry black hole.

Geodesic Structure of Lifshitz Black Holes in 2+1 Dimensions

We present a study of the geodesic equations of a black hole space-time which is a solution of the three-dimensional NMG theory and is asymptotically Lifshitz with $z=3$ and $d=1$ as found in [Ayon-Beato E., Garbarz A., Giribet G. and Hassaine M., Phys. Rev. {\bf D} 80, 104029 (2009)]. By means of the corresponding effective potentials for massive particles and photons we find the allowed motions by the energy levels. Exact solutions for radial and non-radial geodesics are given in terms of the Weierstrass elliptic $\wp$, $σ$, and $ζ$ functions.

Special Relativity induced by Granular Space

We show that the special relativistic dynamics when combined with quantum mechanics and the concept of superstatistics can be interpreted as arising from two interlocked non-relativistic stochastic processes that operate at different energy scales. This interpretation leads to Feynman amplitudes that are in the Euclidean regime identical to transition probability of a Brownian particle propagating through a granular space. Some kind of spacetime granularity could be held responsible for the emergence at larger scales of various symmetries. For illustration we consider also the dynamics and the propagator of a spinless relativistic particle. Implications for doubly special relativity, quantum field theory, quantum gravity and cosmology are discussed.

Nonbaryonic dark matter and scalar field coupled with a transversal interaction plus decoupled radiation

We analyze a universe filled with interacting dark matter, a scalar field accommodated as dark radiation along with dark energy plus a decoupled radiation term within the framework of spatially flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) spacetime. We work in a three-dimensional internal space spanned by the interaction vector and use a transversal interaction $\mathbf{Q_t}$ for solving the source equation in order to find all the interacting component energy densities. We asymptotically reconstruct the scalar field and potential from an early radiation era to the late dominate dark energy one, passing through an intermediate epoch dominated by dark matter. We apply the $χ^{2}$ method to the updated observational Hubble data for constraining the cosmic parameters, contrast with the Union 2 sample of supernovae, and analyze the amount of dark energy in the radiation era. It turns out that our model fulfills the severe bound of $Ω_{\rm ϕ}(z\simeq 1100)<0.018$ at $2σ$ level, is consistent with the recent analysis that includes cosmic microwave background anisotropy measurements from the Atacama Cosmology Telescope and the South Pole Telescope along with the future constraints achievable by Planck and CMBPol experiments, and satisfies the stringent bound $Ω_{\rm ϕ}(z\simeq 10^{10})<0.04$ at $2σ$ level in the big-bang nucleosynthesis epoch.

Relative locality in a quantum spacetime and the pregeometry of $κ$-Minkowski

We develop a new description of the much-studied $κ$-Minkowski noncommutative spacetime, centered on representing on a single Hilbert space not only the $κ$-Minkowski coordinates, but also the associated differential calculus and the $κ$-Poincaré symmetry generators. In this "pregeometric" representation the relevant operators act on the kinematical Hilbert space of the covariant formulation of quantum mechanics, which we argue is the natural framework for studying the implications of the step from commuting spacetime coordinates to the $κ$-Minkowski case, where the spatial coordinates do not commute with the time coordinate. The empowerment provided by this kinematical-Hilbert space representation allows us to give a crisp characterization of the "fuzziness" of $κ$-Minkowski spacetime, whose most striking aspect is a relativity of spacetime locality. We show that relative locality, which had been previously formulated exclusively in classical-spacetime setups, for a quantum spacetime takes the shape of a dependence of the fuzziness of a spacetime point on the distance at which an observer infers properties of the event that marks the point.

Charge screening by thin-shells in a 2+1-dimensional regular black hole

We consider a particular Bardeen black hole in 2+1-dimensions. The black hole is sourced by a radial electric field in non-linear electrodynamics (NED). The solution is obtained anew by the alternative Hamiltonian formalism. For $r\rightarrow \infty $ it asymptotes to the charged BTZ black hole. It is shown that by inserting a charged, thin-shell (or ring) the charge of the regular black hole can be screened from the external world.

Fermionic current induced by magnetic flux in compactified cosmic string spacetime

In this paper, we investigate the fermionic current densities induced by a magnetic flux running along the idealized cosmic string in a four-dimensional spacetime, admitting that the coordinate along the string's axis is compactified. In order to develop this investigation we construct the complete set of fermionic mode functions obeying a general quasiperiodicity condition along the compactified dimension. The vacuum expectation value of the azimuthal current density is decomposed into two parts. The first one corresponds to the uncompactified cosmic string geometry and the second one is the correction induced by the compactification. For the first part we provide a closed expression which includes various special cases previously discussed in the literature. The second part is an odd periodic function of the magnetic flux along the string axis with the period equal to the flux quantum and it is an even function of the magnetic flux enclosed by the string axis. The compactification of the cosmic string axis in combination with the quasiperiodicity condition leads to the nonzero axial current density. The latter is an even periodic function of the magnetic flux along the string axis and an odd periodic function of the magnetic flux enclosed by the string axis. The axial current density vanishes for untwisted and twisted fields in the absence of the magnetic flux enclosed by the string axis. The asymptotic behavior of the vacuum fermionic current is investigated near the string and at large distances from it. In particular, the topological part of the azimuthal current and the axial current are finite on the string's axis.

Lense-Thirring Precession in Plebański-Demiański spacetimes

An exact expression of Lense-Thirring precession rate is derived for non-extremal and extremal Plebański-Demiański spacetimes. This formula is used to find the exact Lense-Thirring precession rate in various axisymmetric spacetimes, like: Kerr, Kerr-Newman, Kerr-de Sitter etc. We also show, if the Kerr parameter vanishes in Plebański-Demiański(PD) spacetime, the Lense-Thirring precession does not vanish due to the existence of NUT charge. To derive the LT precession rate in extremal Plebański-Demiański we first derive the general extremal condition for PD spacetimes. This general result could be applied to get the extremal limit in any stationary and axisymmetric spacetimes.

Gravitational waves in modified teleparallel theories of gravity

Teleparallel theory of gravity and its modifications have been studied extensively in literature. However, gravitational waves has not been studied enough in the framework of teleparallelism. In the present study, we discuss gravitational waves in general theories of teleparallel gravity containing the torsion scalar $T$, the boundary term $B$ and a scalar field $ϕ$. The goal is to classify possible new polarizations generalizing results presented in Ref.[15]. We show that, if the boundary term is minimally coupled to the torsion scalar and the scalar field, gravitational waves have the same polarization modes of General Relativity.

Q-balls Formation and the Production of Gravitational Waves With Non-minimal Gravitational Coupling

We propose to introduce non-minimal couplings of Affleck-Dine (AD) field to gravity by adding the coupling of AD field to the Ricci scalar curvature. As the Jordan frame supergravity always predict $|Φ|^2 {\cal R}/6$ type coupling for scalars with canonical kinetic terms, we propose a way to realize the required $c_0|Φ|^2 {\cal R}$-type couplings with generic $c_0$ for canonical complex scalar fields after SUSY breaking. The impacts of such non-minimal gravitational couplings for AD field is shown, especially on the Q-balls formation and the associated gravitational wave (GW) productions. New form of scalar potential for AD field in the Einstein frame is obtained. By numerical simulations, we find that, with non-minimal gravitational coupling to AD field, Q-balls can successfully form even with the choice of non-negative $K$ parameter for $ξ>0$. The associated GW productions as well as their dependences on the $ξ$ parameter are also discussed.
