Quantum Vacuum and Inertial Reaction Force in Nonrelativistic QED

The possible connection between the electromagnetic zero-point field (ZPF) and the inertia reaction force was first pointed out by Haisch, Rueda, and Puthoff (Phys. Rev. A, 49, 678, 1994), and then by Rueda and Haisch following a totally different and more satisfactory approach (Found. Phys., 28, 1057, 1998; Phys. Letters A, 240, 115, 1998; Annalen der Physik, 10 (5), 393, 2001). In the present paper, the approach taken by Rueda and Haisch will be followed, but the analysis will be done within a formulation that uses nonrelativistic quantum electrodynamics with the creation and annihilation operators rather than the approach of Rueda and Haisch using stochastic electrodynamics. We analyze the interaction between the zero-point field and an object under hyperbolic motion (constant proper acceleration), and find that there arises a reaction force which is proportional in magnitude, and opposite in direction, to the acceleration. This is suggestive of what we know as inertia. We also point out that the equivalence principle -- that inertial mass and gravitational mass have the same values -- follows naturally using this approach. Inertial mass and gravitational mass are not merely equal, they are the identical thing viewed from two complementary perspectives (Annalen der Physik, 14 (8), 479, 2005). In the first case an object accelerating through the electromagnetic zero-point field experiences resistance from the field. In the case of an object held fixed in a gravitational field, the electromagnetic zero-point field propagates on curved geodesics, in effect accelerating with respect to the fixed object, thereby generating weight. Hence, the equivalence principle does not need to be independently postulated.

Photo-Disintegration of the Iron Nucleus in Fractured Magnetite Rocks with Magnetostriction

There has been considerable interest in recent experiments on iron nuclear disintegrations observed when rocks containing such nuclei are crushed and fractured. The resulting nuclear transmutations are particularly strong for the case of magnetite rocks, i.e. loadstones. We argue that the fission of the iron nucleus is a consequence of photo-disintegration. The electro-strong coupling between electromagnetic fields and nuclear giant dipole resonances are central for producing observed nuclear reactions. The large electron energies produced during the fracture of piezomagnetic rocks are closely analogous to the previously discussed case of the fracture of piezoelectric rocks. In both cases electro-weak interactions can produce neutrons and neutrinos from energetic protons and electrons thus inducing nuclear transmutations. The electro-strong condensed matter coupling discussed herein represents new many body collective nuclear photo-disintegration effects.

Coulomb-oscillator origin of superconductivity in p-doped copper oxides

Emergence, development and cessation of superconductivity in three representative compounds of copper oxide families---cation doped Ca_2-xNa_xCuO2Cl2 and La_2-xAe_xCuO4 (Ae = Ba, Sr), as well as oxygen enriched YBa2Cu3O_6+x ---are explained with the Coulomb-oscillator model of superconductivity. By the model, non-resistive current is carried by axial Coulomb oscillations of s electrons through neighbor nuclei---here excited 3s electrons from O^2- ions through next-nearest neighbor oxygen nuclei---if their accompanying lateral oscillation is sufficiently confined to prevent lateral overswing. Cation doping gives rise to a superlattice in the layers that sandwich each CuO2 plane. In Ca_2-xNa_xCuO2Cl2, having one CuO2 plane per unit cell, superconductivity emerges when laterally confined Coulomb oscillators start connecting along 6 x 6 superlattice domains (in units of planar lattice constants) and it peaks at 4 x 4 domains when, at doping x = 1/8, the superlattice is completed. With further doping a new, off-set superlattice grows. Its frustrating effect gradually reduces superconductivity to cessation. The same mechanism holds for La_2-xAe_xCuO4 which has two, staggered CuO2 planes per unit cell. The staggering causes superconducting frustration or boost between adjacent layer sandwiches. This results in a double hump of the transition temperature Tc(x), instead of a dome, with a deep furrow or dip at x = 1/8 for Ae = Ba or Sr, respectively. Oxygen enrichment of YBa2Cu3O_6+x indirectly leads to effective doping in the CuO2 planes themselves (Cu^2+ --> Cu^3+). The ionization of copper ions at the corners of planar unit cells determines whether lateral oscillations between next-nearest neighbor O^2- ions overswing (Tc = 0) or are confined to wide or narrow electron tracks. Their percolating connectivity gives rise to respective plateaus of Tc = 57 K and Tc = 90 K, and intermediate ramps.

An exact integration of a ϕ^4 quantum field theory

Most quantum field theories are not exactly solvable. In this paper show the statistical equivalence of the standard exponential path integral to products of Heaviside functions, i.e. a product of specially tuned uniform distributions. This allows exact integrations of certain quantum field theories. I apply the equivalence to calculate the exact, non-perturbative path integral for a 3+1-D scalar (real) phi-4 field theory.

New Indivisible Planetary Science Paradigm

I present here a new, indivisible planetary science paradigm, a wholly self-consistent vision of the nature of matter in the Solar System, and dynamics and energy sources of planets. Massive-core planets formed by condensing and raining-out from within giant gaseous protoplanets at high pressures and high temperatures. Earth's complete condensation included a 300 Earth-mass gigantic gas/ice shell that compressed the rocky kernel to about 66% of Earth's present diameter. T-Tauri eruptions stripped the gases away from the inner planets and stripped a portion of Mercury's incompletely condensed protoplanet, and transported it to the region between Mars and Jupiter where it fused with in-falling oxidized condensate from the outer regions of the Solar System and formed the parent matter of ordinary chondrite meteorites, the main-Belt asteroids, and veneer for the inner planets, especially Mars. In response to decompression-driven planetary volume increases, cracks form to increase surface area and mountain ranges characterized by folding form to accommodate changes in curvature. The differences between the inner planets are primarily the consequence of different degrees of protoplanetary compression. The internal composition of Mercury is calculated by analogy with the Earth. The rationale is provided for Mars potentially having a greater subsurface water reservoir capacity than before realized.

On the Locality Principle Keeping in Aharonov-Bohm Effect

The locality principle fulfillment in the Aharonov-Bohm (AB) effect is analyzed from the point of view of a self-sufficient potential formalism based on so-called gradient hypothesis in electrodynamics. The "magnetic" kind of AB effect is examined (as the quantum charged particle moves to an infinitely long solenoid with a permanent current), and no locality principle violation recognized if the gradient hypothesis is used. A conclusion is made that AB effect is no longer a physical and electrodynamic "paradox".

An exotic proposal on Cooper pairing in high-$T_c$ supercondutors

We propose that a Cooper pair in a high-$T_c$ superconductor might be in fact a bound system $\rm eex\bar x$ of two electrons, a particle $\rm x$ and its antiparticle. We assume $\rm eex\bar x$ is more massive than two free electrons. We observe that $\rm eex\bar x$ should be stable in a solid if it is in a low enough state in the solid. A solid which admits such a low state for $\rm eex\bar x$ has some properties which seem closely related to the behavior of HTS materials. The interaction of the $\rm x$-particle which binds the four particles into $\rm eex\bar x$ has been discussed. We also discuss the scale of the mass excess of $\rm eex\bar x$ relative to two free electrons. An experiment designed to detect a bound system of two electrons with a mass excess has been proposed.

On the Problem of Ambiguity of Electromagnetic Potential

In the self-sufficient potential formalism, treating all electromagnetic phenomena as natural or forced oscillations of some distributed electromagnetic oscillating system (Minkowski space-time), the electromagnetic potential must be considered as some relative measure describing deviation of the system from its "undisturbed" state (when both natural and forced oscillations are absent). Therefore, there is no ambiguity in the gauge of one: all components of the potential four-vector are asymptotically verging towards zero while the distance from all free charges and currents enlarges. Such interpretation turns the electromagnetic potential into a physically real value.

The Pioneer Anomaly: an inconvenient reality or NASA's 12 year misconception?

This paper discusses the likelihood of whether the Pioneer anomaly is due to 'mundane' systematic errors/effects or indicative of new or unappreciated physics. The main aim of this paper is to argue that recent publications suggesting that the anomaly is previously overlooked thermal recoil forces, which is in stark contrast to the earlier consensus (1998-2010), are open to questioning. Both direct and circumstantial evidence are examined, and the uncertainty or inaccuracy associated with observations of such a small magnitude effect is recognised. Whilst a non-systematic based anomaly appears to be very unlikely, by way of the awkwardness of the observational characteristics that would need to be modelled, the existence of other peripheral anomalous phenomena makes an outright dismissal of the anomaly unwise. Issues from the philosophy of science (and physics) are also tabled. In the interests of having a contingency plan, should future experiments provide support for a Pioneer-like anomaly, the type of unappreciated physics that could conceivably satisfy the awkward observational evidence is alluded to, albeit in a non-rigorous and cursory manner.

A Pedagogical Study of the Grand Unification Theorem with Realization of Some Standard Equations

The God Almighty Grand Unification Theory proposed by Oyibo to unify all known forces in nature and other possibly unknown force fields has remained controversial not just because of its ambitious claims but also because of its unconventional mathematical approach. He has adopted the mathematical approach from his experience at solving the Navier Stokes equations in fluid mechanics using invariance of an arbitrary function under a group of conformal transformations. However, this esoteric approach resulted in a sound mathematical formulation for the modelling philosophy of his theorem which is that since the fundamental characteristic of the universe is motion and motion can only be provided by force, then the universe could be viewed as a large force field. He then represented the conservation of this large force field at a given space time point in the universe by a set of generic equations from which he obtained his generic solutions whose specific applications depend on the initial/boundary conditions and other physical constraint conditions. An important achievement of the theorem methodology is that modelling with it is reduced to algebraic operations rather than differential equations for the most parts in previous methodologies. With this understanding from pedagogically studying the modelling philosophy and mathematics of the theorem, we have been able to recover from it simple standard equations such as in the Fermat principle for geometric optics. This is encouraging and therefore supports the possibility to recover more results and also to provide new ones, thereby supporting the theorem as a potential candidate for a grand unification theory.

Dynamical 3-Space: Black Holes in an Expanding Universe

Black holes are usually studied without including effects of the expanding universe. However in some recent studies black holes have been embedded in an expanding universe, in order to determine the interplay, if any, of these two dynamical processes. Dynamical 3-space theory contains time independent solutions for black holes, which are spatial in-flows, and separately the time dependent Hubble expansion. This theory has explained numerous puzzles in observational astrophysics and contains 3 constants; G, alpha - which from experimental data turns out to be the fine structure constant, and delta - which is a small but nonzero distance, possibly a Planck-type length. The Hubble expansion in the dynamical 3-space theory cannot be `switched off', forcing the study, first, of isolated black holes coexisting with the expanding universe. It is shown that a time dependent black hole and expanding universe solution exists. The nature and implications of these solutions are discussed as they evolve over time. A dynamical network of black holes and induced linking cosmic filaments forming bubble structures is discussed, as a consequence of dynamical 3-space undergoing a dynamical breakdown of homogeneity and isotropy, even in the absence of baryonic matter.

Einstein as armchair detective: The case of stimulated radiation

Einstein was in many ways like a detective on a mystery trail, though in his case he was on the trail of nature's mysteries and not some murder mystery! And like all good detectives he had a style. It consisted of taking facts that he knew were correct and forcing nature into a situation that would contradict this established truth. In this process she would be forced to reveal some new truths. Einstein's 1917 paper on the quantum theory of radiation is a classic example of this style and enabled him to predict the existence of stimulated radiation starting from an analysis of thermodynamic equilibrium between matter and radiation.

A New Basis of Geoscience: Whole-Earth Decompression Dynamics

Neither plate tectonics nor Earth expansion theory is sufficient to provide a basis for understanding geoscience. Each theory is incomplete and possesses problematic elements, but both have served as stepping stones to a more fundamental and inclusive geoscience theory that I call Whole-Earth Decompression Dynamics (WEDD). WEDD begins with and is the consequence of our planet's early formation as a Jupiter-like gas giant and permits deduction of:(1) Earth's internal composition, structure, and highly-reduced oxidation state; (2) Core formation without whole-planet melting; (3) Powerful new internal energy sources - proto-planetary energy of compression and georeactor nuclear fission energy; (4) Georeactor geomagnetic field generation; (5) Mechanism for heat emplacement at the base of the crust resulting in the crustal geothermal gradient; (6) Decompression driven geodynamics that accounts for the myriad of observations attributed to plate tectonics without requiring physically-impossible mantle convection, and; (7) A mechanism for fold-mountain formation that does not necessarily require plate collision. The latter obviates the necessity to assume supercontinent cycles. Here, I review the principles of Whole-Earth Decompression Dynamics and describe a new underlying basis for geoscience and geology.

Towards the Chalonge 17th Paris Cosmology Colloquium 2013: highlights and conclusions of the Chalonge 16th Paris Cosmology Colloquium 2012

LWDM (Warm Dark Matter) is progressing impressively. The galactic scale crisis and decline of LCDM+baryons are staggering. The 16th Paris Chalonge Colloquium 2012 combined real cosmological/astrophysical data and hard theory predictive approach in the LWDM Standard Model. News and reviews from ACT,WMAP,SPT,QUIET,Planck,Herschel,JWST,UFFO,KATRIN and MARE experiments; astrophysics, particle and nuclear physics WDM searches, galactic observations, related theory and simulations, with the aim of synthesis and clarification. Here highlights by P Biermann, C Burigana, C Conselice, A Cooray, H de Vega, C Giunti & M Laveder, J Kormendi & K Freeman, E Ma, J Mather, L Page, G Smoot, N Sanchez. Summary and conclusions by de Vega, Falvella and Sanchez. Data confirm primordial CMB gaussianity. Effective (Ginsburg-Landau) Inflation theory predicts r about 0.04-0.05, negligeable running of ns, the inflation energy scale (GUT scale) and the set of CMB observables in agreement with the data. WMAP9 and Planck measurements are compatible with one or two Majorana sterile neutrinos in the eV mass scale. Cored (non cusped) DM halos and keV WDM are strongly favored by theory and observations, Wimps are strongly disfavoured. LambdaCDM with baryons do not work at small scales. Inside galaxy cores, quantum WDM effects are important. Quantum WDM calculations (Thomas-Fermi) provide galaxy masses, velocity dispersions and cored profiles and their sizes in agreement with observations. A WDM fermion of about 2 keV naturally reproduces galaxy, large scale and cosmological observations. WDM keV particles deserve dedicated astronomical and laboratory searches, theoretical work and numerical simulations. KATRIN can be adapted to look to keV scale sterile neutrinos. It will be a fantastic discovery to detect dark matter in beta decay. Photos of the Colloquium are included

On the Physical Origin of the Anomalous Magnetic Moment of Electron

A simple physical insight into the origin of the magnetic moment anomaly of electron is presented. This approach is based on the assumption that the electromagnetic mass of the electron due to the electric field generated by electron charge in the exterior of the sphere of radius half of the Compton wavelength of the electron, does not contribute to the magnetic moment of the electron. This explanation is compatible with the well-known quantum electrodynamics approach. A formula is derived, which is similar to that obtained by quantum electrodynamics calculus of one loop contribution to anomalous part of the magnetic moment.

On the magnetic field of bound charges current

Measurements of magnetic induction near an ice rod in the strong electric field were carried out. Theoretical estimation of the magnetic induction was made. It was found that in the average the experimental values of magnetic induction were an order less than theoretical value. A conclusion about the non- equivalence of magnetic fields of bound charges current and conduction current was made. Therefore, the magnetic field near an energized conductor is caused not directly by moving charges but by their influence on the propagation medium. The similar effect could occur at diffusion of other particles through the medium.

On the nucleon paradigm: the nucleons are closer to reality than the protons and neutrons

There is a widespread delusion that in theoretical nuclear physics protons and neutrons are the real thing, and nucleons are not more than a mathematically equivalent formality. It is shown that, on the contrary, nucleons are the real thing, because only a part of the theory is essentially identical to proton-and-neutron theory, whereas the remaining part is physically relevant. The approach is general. Thus, this is a paradigm of relation of a wider and a more narrow theory, so that the wider theory describes reality better. Also the relation of disjoint domains to the exclusion principle is clarified. A general fermion theory of how to distinguish identical particles is presented.

Comments on Letter (Phys. Rev. L, Vol.89, No. 10,2002) by D. Shapira and M. Saltmarsh

This article focuses on correcting several factual errors and critiques in the previously published Letter in Phys. Rev. L, Vol. 89, No. 10, 2022, by D. Shapira and M. Saltmarsh. The authors of the Letter did not perform their own "independent" experiments as claimed; they did not perform control experiments with normal acetone; and, neither did they monitor for tritium. It their Letter, the authors (D. Shapira and M. Saltmarsh) failed to disclose that the data they collected actually confirmed our claims of having observed statistically significant nuclear emissions in chilled, cavitated deuterated acetone.
