Internal Symmetry of Space-Time Connections with Torsion

In this brief article an internal symmetry of a generic metric compatible space-time connection, metric and generalized volume element is introduced. The symmetry arises naturally by considering a space-time connection containing a generic torsion tensor, and would otherwise be missed in the absence of torsion. When the transformation is applied to the Hilbert-Einstein action it is shown that by a choice of gauge all possible field theories arising from the Hilbert-Einstein action are equivalent to the standard theory of gravity described by general relativity.

Geometric Phase, Curvature, and the Monodromy Group

The geometric phase requires the multivaluedness of solutions to Fuchsian second-order equations. The angle, or its complement, is given by half the area of a spherical triangle in the case of three singular points, or half the area of a lune in the case of two singular points. Both are fundamental regions where the automorphic function takes a value only once, and a linear-fractional transformation tessellates the plane in replicas of the fundamental region. The condition that the homologues of the poles, representing vertices, be angles places restrictions on quantum numbers which are no longer integers, for, otherwise, the phase factors would become unity. Restriction must be made to regular singular points for only then will solutions to the differential equation be rational functions so that the covering group will be cyclic and the covering space be a "spiral staircase". Many of the equations of mathematical physics, with essential singularities, become Fuchsian differential equations, with regular singularities, at zero kinetic energy. Examples of geometric phase include the phasor, the Pancharatnam phase of beams of polarized light in different states, the Aharanov-Bohm phase, and angular momentum with centripetal "attraction". In the latter example, the phase is one-half the area of the lune, which disappears when the pole at infinity becomes an essential singularity thereby recovering the Schrödinger equation. The behavior of an automorphic function at a limit point on the boundary is analogous to the confluence of two regular singularities in a linear second-order differential equation to produce an essential singularity at infinity.

Inflation and the Higgs Scalar

This note makes a self-contained exposition of the basic facts of big bang cosmology as they relate to inflation. The fundamental problems with that model are then explored. A quartic scalar potential model of inflation is evaluated which provides the solution of those problems and makes predictions which will soon be definitively tested. The possibility that the recently discovered fundamental Higgs scalar field drives inflation is explored.

On one-loop impacts of the Rashba coupling

In this paper, we describe the one-loop contributions in QED with Rashba coupling. We show that all purely nonminimal contributions are explicitly finite, so, the whole theory is one-loop renormalizable.

A superposition test for the emergence of nonlinearities in a laser irradiated spherical absorber

The principal of linear superposition is investigated in the computational system of a solid spherical absorber immersed in a transparent aqueous medium and illuminated by a laser pulse. The absorber is exposed to a single top-hat pulse and to a fraction of the pulse from which a superimposed response is calculated. The results clearly show the transition of the system from a low fluence linear state where superposition is valid to a high fluence nonlinear state where the superposition is violated. The procedure described in the text can be used to find the transition to nonlinearity in a given excited system. This work can lead to better understanding and quantifying the transition from linear to non-linear regimes in complex systems.

Deterministic nonlinear quantum evolution. Experimental verification

It is described a nonlocal interaction between entangled quantum objects, which is initiated by a process different from the reduction of the wave function. The scheme of an experiment realizing a deterministic nonlocal quantum evolution is proposed. In the case of the negative result of the experiment, the universal character of the integral wave equation with a kernel in the form of a path integral is questionable, otherwise faster-then-light communication is possible

Relativistic Point Particles and Classical Elastic Strings

We extend the previous work of Olivier Costa de Beauregard regarding the isomorphism between the equation describing the motion of relativistic point particles and the equation describing the static equilibrium of classical elastic strings, by comparing the Lagrangians of these two systems.

The zero-point energy of elementary quantum fields

Since 1925, exactly four arguments have been forwarded for the assumption of a diverging (respectively --- after regularization --- very huge) zero-point energy of elementary quantum fields. And exactly three arguments have been forwarded against this assumption. In this article, all seven arguments are reviewed and assessed. It turns out that the three CONTRA arguments against the assumption of that zero-point energy are overwhelmingly stronger than the four PRO arguments.

The design of ultra-strong laser with one-dimensional function photonic crystal

With the optical kerr effect, the conventional photonic crystal can be turned into the function photonic crystal under the action of pump light. In the paper, we have designed the ultra-strong light source and laser with one-dimensional function photonic crystal. When the incident light is the ordinary light, the output is ultra-strong light source, and when the incident light is the low power laser, the output is ultra-strong laser, the maximum magnification can be reached $10^{80}$ and even more. Otherwise, we analyzed the effect of period number, medium refractive index and thickness, incident angle, the pump light irradiation way and pump light intensity on the magnification, these results shall help to optimal design ultra-strong light source and laser.

High Frequency Electrical Oscillations in Cavities

If the interior of a conducting cavity (such as a capacitor or a coaxial cable) is supplied with a very high-frequency electric signal, the information between the walls propagates with an appreciable delay, due to the finiteness of the speed of light. The configuration is typical of cavities having size larger than the wavelength of the injected signal. Such a non rare situation, in practice, may cause a break down of the performances of the device. We show that the classical Coulomb's law and Maxwell's equations do not correctly predict this behavior. Therefore, we provide an extension of the modeling equations that allows for a more reliable determination of the electromagnetic field during the evolution process. The main issue is that, even in vacuum (no dielectric inside the device), the fast variation of the signal produces sinks and sources in the electric field, giving rise to zones where the divergence is not zero. These regions are well balanced, so that their average in the domain is zero. However, this behavior escapes the usual treatment with classical electromagnetism.

Redshift for massive particles

On each FRW metric, there exist a redshift for massive particles, analogous to that of photons, but depending on the mass. This is a simple consequence of the fundamental laws of Classical Mechanics.

Combining neural networks and signed particles to simulate quantum systems more efficiently, Part III

This work belongs to a series of articles which have been dedicated to the combination of signed particles and neural networks to speed up the time-dependent simulation of quantum systems. More specifically, the suggested networks are utilized to compute the function known as the Wigner kernel. In the first paper, we suggested a network which is completely defined analytically and which does not necessitate any training process. Although very useful, this approach keeps the same complexity as the more standard finite difference methods. In the second work, we presented a different architecture which has generalization capabilities. Although more convenient in terms of computational time, it still uses a similar structure compared to the previous approach, with less neurons in the hidden layer but with the same expensive activation functions (sine functions). In this work, we focus on neural networks without any prior physics based knowledge. In more details, the network now consists of different hidden layers which are based on more common, and less computationally expensive, activation functions such as rectified linear units, and which focus on predicting only one column of the discretized Wigner kernel at a time. This new suggested architecture proves to accurately learn the transform from the space of potential functions to the space of Wigner kernels and performs very well during the simulation of quantum systems (20 times faster). Finally, we simulate a one-dimensional quantum system consisting of a wave packet impinging on a potential barrier for validation purposes. This represents one further step ahead to achieve fast and reliable simulations of time-dependent quantum systems.

Some remarks on the current issues in nucleon spin structure study

I give some personal remarks on some current issues in the nucleon spin structure study. At an elementary level I propose a new angular momentum separation for the massless Dirac field in a free theory which mimics the usual free photon angular momentum separation pattern in Coulomb gauge. In connection with this construction I introduce a somewhat idiosyncratic formalism in a free massless Dirac theory which I call "dressed axial $U(1)_A$ symmetry". I show that this new "fermion spin operator", which is more correctly called "helicity vector operator", can be incorporated into this new symmetry pattern in a natural way. This set of "dressed axial vector current" and its corresponding charges show an interesting internal structure and may be useful in a broader physical context. I then discuss the case of the QED model with a massless Dirac fermion. In the case of covariant quantization, I give a new and correct proof that the additional term in the total angular momentum operator stemming from the gauge-fixing term does not contribute at the level of physical matrix elements, which is discussed in the relevant literature. At the level of asymptotic fields I construct the helicity vector operator of the QED theory which actually coincides with the usual projection of the total angular momentum operator when acting on a beam of collinearly moving free particles. I then consider the QCD model with only two massless light quarks. In this context I discuss the approximate concept of "asymptotic quark and gluon fields" which is relevant to the usual parton model picture and propose to use the asymptotic "quark helicity vector" operator to describe the quark helicity contribution to an IMF proton. Finally, I give some remarks on the concept of IMF itself, which show that this very concept should be understood with some reservation from a rigorous mathematical consideration.

Chaplygin Gas models without Chaplygin Gas EoS

The equation of state of Chaplygin Gas is one of the simplest ways to illustrate dark energy effects during the late time. Indeed, while one uses the equation of state of Chaplygin Gas, the continuity equation gives specific energy density which satisfies both deceleration (matter dominated) and acceleration (dark energy epoch). In other words, for the earlier universe, the energy density of whole energy-matter component behaves as matter era (baryonic and dark matter) and treats such as dark energy in the standard model of cosmology Lambda-CDM when a goes to infinity. Here, by using the general form of F(R) gravity while the pressure of matter is non-zero, we show that even for Einstein gravity (GR), one obtains a viable cosmological model with the same energy density of Chaplygin Gas while Chaplygin Gas EoS is not used. Further, we investigate cosmic evolution through two other different forms of F(R) gravity and show general behavior of Hubble parameter, cosmological scale factor and equation of state throughout cosmic time.

Classical uncertainty in predicting the future

In this work we scrutinize the deterministic nature of globally hyperbolic space-times from the point of view of an observer. We show that a space-time point $q \in M$ that lies to the future of an observer at $p \in M$, receives signals that are invisible (to be made precise) to the observer at $p$. Part of the initial data on a Cauchy surface, required to predict what happens at $q$, is also invisible to the observer at $p$. Therefore it is not possible for any observer to predict a future event with certainty. The uncertainty increases as one attempts to predict further future. An observer at $p$ can access the entire data to determine what happens at $q$, if and only if $q \in J^-(p)$. Classical uncertainty in prediction is not an intrinsic feature of the events in space-time. It adds up with the usual quantum mechanical uncertainty to limit our ability to predict the future. We also suggest a thought experiment to elucidate the subject.

Size and shape of a celestial body, definition of a planet

Experience shows that celestial bodies have a nearly round shape only from a certain size. At IAU resolution B5, item b, that shape serves as an indicator for a distinct mechanism of its forming, caused by a minimum of mass. Rigid body forces should have been overcome by self gravity and a hydrostatic equilibrium shape should have been achieved. A new approach to correlate the size and shape of a solid in hydrostatic equilibrium by balancing self gravity and rigid body forces leads to a real, not to an arbitrary lower limit of size. No arbitrary criterion is required as it is often the case. Above this limit the shape of a solid body is restricted by a maximum of its surface area, and this maximum vanishes only at infinite size. Therefore the shape like that of a related fluid in hydrostatic equilibrium can only be reached in the solid state, if its surface area is larger than this maximum. This applies only to the four giant planets and Haumea. All the known nearly round celestial bodies in the solar System cant have achieved their present shape while being solids. The dwarf Haumea is a questionable exception. The present shapes have been formed before solidification and are frozen. The gas giants are not solids at all and the terrestrial planets have at least partially melted in their thermal history for millions of years. The smaller nearly round objects such as asteroids and satellites were at least partially melted combined with internal differentiation and resurfacing of a mechanically unstable crust in their very early thermal history. No rigid body forces had to be overcome. Item b of the current planet definition is somewhat undetermined. All planets and dwarfs in the solar system match this requirement only at very generous interpretation. It should be completely deleted. The number of dwarfs could be restricted by an arbitrary minimum of mass.

Particle Mass Oscillation through Tachyon Interaction

In this study, a novel theory to investigate the mass oscillation of particles is proposed. It has been proven that, at high-energy conditions, the fermion field described by Dirac Lagrangian interacts with the half-integer spin tachyon field with negative energy, causing the formation of composite particles whose mass depends on the total angular momentum. The proposed theory is based on a new interpretation of the Majorana equation for particles with arbitrary spin and shows that mass oscillation is a phenomenon in which the component of particle decay prevails over that of mixing mass states. Using the kinematic of Lemke for spacelike particle decay, we propose a mechanism able to explain the neutrino flavour change. The proposed mechanism is also investigated concerning the shape of its spectrum. Finally, the Lagrangian field of composite particles is formulated.
