Convex-transitive characterizations of Hilbert spaces

Abstract

In this paper we investigate real convex-transitive Banach spaces X, which admit a 1-dimensional bicontractive projection P on X. Various mild conditions regarding the weak topology and the geometry of the norm are provided, which guarantee that such an X is in fact isometrically a Hilbert space. The results obtained can be regarded as partial answers to the well-known Banach-Mazur rotation problem, as well as to a question posed by B. Randrianantoanina in 2002 about convex-transitive spaces.

Restriction of Fractional Derivatives of the Fourier Transform

We consider the differentiability of the Fourier transform of $f \in L^p(\mathbb{R}^n)$ at points on the graph of a function with non-vanishing Gaussian curvature. In particular, we show that if the values of $\widehat{f}$ along the graph possess $H^\ell$ Sobolev regularity, then this implies a certain degree of regularity of $\widehat{f}$ in the last coordinate direction as well. Two types of results are proved: One controls the $β$-order derivative in the last direction in terms of its $H^{-s}$ norm for suitable combinations of $(β, p, s, \ell)$. This extends the result in \cite{GoldStol}*{Theorem 1.12} to fractional derivatives and to some of its sharp endpoints. In particular, we recover the sharp range in the $s=0$ case where $\frac{\partial \widehat{f}}{\partial ξ_n}$ has a surface restriction in $L^2$. The second set of results is about $L^2(\mathbb{R}^n)$ bounds for difference quotients and fractional difference quotients of $\widehat{f}$, generalizing results in \cite{G2016}.

Extension of Sobolev functions on balls in infinite dimensions

We prove the existence of a bounded Sobolev extension operator $E:W^{p,1}\left( B,P \right) \rightarrow W^{p,1}\left( \ell^{2} ,P \right)$ using a completely new method, where $B\subset \ell^{2}$ is the unit ball and $P$ is any non-trivial centered Gaussian measure on $\ell^{2}$. This solves an open problem posed in the literatures.

On the Spectra of Multiplicative Hilbert Operator on Bergman Spaces of Dirichlet Series

For $α>1$, we study the weighted multiplicative Hilbert operator \[ (T_αf)(s) = \int_{1/2}^{\infty} f(t)\bigl(ζ(s+t)^α-1\bigr) \left(t-\frac12\right)^{α-1}\,dt \] on the Hilbertian Bergman space $A_{α,0}^2$ of Dirichlet series with zero constant term. In the natural orthonormal basis, $T_α$ is represented by the weighted multiplicative Hilbert matrix \[ \left( \frac{Γ(α)\sqrt{d_α(m)d_α(n)}} {\sqrt{mn}\,(\log(mn))^α} \right)_{m,n\ge2}, \] where $d_α$ is the generalized divisor function defined by $ζ(s)^α=\sum_{n\ge1}d_α(n)n^{-s}$ for $\Re s>1$. Set $Λ_α=Γ(α/2)^2/Γ(α)$. We prove that the essential spectrum of \(T_α\) is \([0,Λ_α]\) and that the spectrum in this interval is purely absolutely continuous with multiplicity one. Above \(Λ_α\), there are at most finitely many eigenvalues, all of which are simple. Moreover, there is a unique \(α_*\in(1,2)\) such that \(T_α\) has eigenvalues if and only if \(α>α_*\). Consequently, the associated sharp embedding inequality admits a non-zero extremizer precisely when $α>α_*$, and this extremizer is unique up to scalar multiplication. We also establish the asymptotic formula $\|T_α\|\simΓ(α+1)/(2(2\log 2)^α)$ as $α\to\infty$. A key step in the proof combines Mellin-transform asymptotics, strict total positivity, and eigenvalue counting to exclude embedded eigenvalues. The proof includes a general result on the essential and singular continuous spectra of weighted integral Hankel operators.
